  1. Well I know some of the FCs here (and even guilds in other MMOs) that do tabletop over the net.
  2. I think you should roll with what RP brings, follow those lines. If you try to force it then it can become contrived and you end up in another dead end. I just started a bad guy, he is maybe in a similar position. The RP will determine if he sinks lower or rises out of this and I am interested to find out which way he goes.
  3. And click on the character name after the word "Create", there is no button. "Create the page "nnnnn nnnnnn" on this wiki!"
  4. I am looking for anyone who IC runs a printing service. I want to RP the production of wanted/missing posters to then place in various locations. I figured I would need: 1. An artiest to draw a likeness from a witnesses description of the person 2. A printing service that can print a good number of the wanted posters If there is someone who does this please get in touch and we can then arrange to RP it through. I know it might sound a bit mundane but I like to involve others if possible rather than NPC it.
  5. Well you made the first step in posting here. Your options are: Walkups - more miss than hit LS - claim to be a place to go but again, actual RP is thin Events - depending on the event a good way to get some, if you can talk to others Bars - There be RP here but tends to not go any further FC - If it is an RP active FC probably the best (try before you buy) I would also think about your character and work out how they can be interactive and engaging. That does not mean you have to change the concept, just to RP they are going to have to engage in interaction in a way that grows it rather than kills it. Feed interactions, don't suck the life from them.
  6. Indeed - Haters gotta hate and toxics don't detox
  7. If members like being in your FC, and people like coming to your events then that is all that counts. Maybe do some publicity yourselves and have a place guests can add thanks to. You can't control the "out there" crowed, don't let them control you.
  8. There is no one answer to this, there are a variety of approaches. You could even plot them out along dimensions: same/diverse members strict/open recruitment process exclude/attract people prevent/resilient-to drama etc.. Each FC leader will find a mix that reflect their own views, and as they are running the FC that is their right. After all, you don't have to join an FC, no one is forcing you. The same is true of peoples experiences, what is bad for one will likely be good for another.
  9. I have evidence that Flynn is in fact as stuffed effigy that is moved from place to place. Just posting a screen shot of him without him noticing gains you +10 linkshell points!
  10. I just have to say this.. You just walked in to find us here, with that welcome look upon our face .
  11. I'm not saying don't screen I am saying do it in a positive way that reflects your FC rather than a negative one just to deter people. Though I accept one person's negative can be another's positive. If your process reflects the way your FC is run then great! And maybe that's the point, that if an applicant does not like the process they should quit and avoid joining an FC that wont suit what they are looking for.
  12. I have had similar experiences in FFXIV. For me this is just a sign of what life in the FC will be like, if these are the officers. Intentional or not a recruitment process is what an applicant will judge your FC on. Remember most of these FCs are trying to recruit like minded people "another one of us". Personally I like diversity so I will never fit in with a strict group. I also love recruitment processes, it is one sign of a well run FC.
  13. To some people, an FC that screens its members as best as possible and weeds out the ones who won't mesh well is honey more than filling out an application is vinegar. Not to mention, most FC's aren't trying to get every fly in the game, only the best flies. Quality flies over quantity flies. I would still try and flip this view from, "How do we only let in the right people... be clear what we don't want and have a rigorous screening process to keep them out" to "How do we attract the right people.. by showing the type of FC we are so that those that will fit in apply, and those that wont don't." For those applying the recruitment process is what they see of your FC, and I think it is better to make that a more positive representation of who you are not a negative one. I'm not saying don't screen, I'm saying don't make recruitment only about screening people out.
  14. We need to know the answer.. I mean did the interviewer have any tasty body parts at all? I'd probably start with their ears, or maybe tongue as they would probably complain about the eating and no one like a complaining companion.
  15. Nebula's Potions, Lotions, Charms and Fortunes! Look no further for your medicinal, professional or recreational requirements. All products are entirely natural and made with loving care. Fogweed can be sourced and after a free consultation there may be alternative remedies you wish to treat yourself to?
  16. And I will fight for that as a valid approach, especially because you accept the "strangeness and fantasy elements of the setting".
  17. "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar" .. and isn't finding new members the reason a FC recruits?
  18. I think the whole thing is a little more complex than male/female polarized stereotypes. I hardly ever play human types, I am always the elf or twilek or troll or etc.. And gender is just another facet. For me this is a fantasy escape, with strangeness on most dimensions.. why try and overlay RL on it or even care what the RL persuasion of the other players is? Yes our play will be based on RL in part because that's what we draw on and fall back on, but it should be a place to unleash your creativity. Embrace the madness!
  19. I remember your sig pic and Pratchett quote!
  20. Sounds about right. I especially look for some focus on the FC culture and especially on RP from a FC application process. The process should bring in people you want, and not be focused on excluding those you don't. The recruitment process is a good indication of the FC and any process that is over 60% about what not to do is a sign that this is an oppressive FC in my experience. So buyer (applicant) beware.
  21. Dear Damele, It has been brought to our attention, via our web monitoring officer as part of our standard application background checks, that you have posted about Free Company membership process in a less than positive way. As you will be aware (because you ticked that you had read and understood our manual of rules, laws, by-laws and guidance) that you must represent the Free Company at all times, and that this includes your past, present and future web profile. We are therefore forced to class you as unsuited to our Free Company, bar you from all our events and place you on our list of banned individuals that all our members and associates must avoid, on pain of expulsion themselves. Your IP address has also been blocked from our sites. We thank you for your application and wish you well in finding a Free Company to match your needs. Perhaps you should try another server or better another MMO entirely? Yours, Grand High Free Company Ego Tripper (Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction, any and all similarities to persons and free companies living, dead or otherwise is purely a sad state of afairs)
  22. Welcome... I liked .. The avatar, those are my fave robes The irony in your list, and double irony for the Ugg boot fetish (is double irony like a double negative?) The middle aged dad character A FC called TEA And here is a wonderwall for wondering Vy1ueZf1WMQ
  23. I think you hit that nail square on the head. As others have also said, the blockers to even getting to Ishgard all but stop the RP. I remember there being some in the start but these days I don't even go looking. And as much as I hope RP will be in the new zones, I feel it will end up the same way if there are such blocks in place. Housing may be different, because a housing zone for level 60+ characters makes no sense. However, on the up side this is not just more content it really feels like an expansion of the game capabilities and lore. If you had asked me back at the start if there would be flying and swimming I would have said no way.
  24. I think I may have to change my character to a new one, because Samurai! I also noted that some of the new areas were Pirate themed!
  25. Dear Shy Flower, I read your letter and I must say you seem to paint yourself into a corner. If you have tried and failed at getting interactions to stick then perhaps it is time for a new approach. I would find yourself a more engaging friend that you can tag along with and pick up the cast offs. Generally such folks will not stick to one interactions and move along. That is your chance to pick these us as they fall away. You should dress quite plain, and let your new friend be the flamboyant one. Those they interact with will soon look past your friends glamor exterior and see you as the more calm and dependable sort. Their egos will want your friend but their mind will soon realize you have some attraction too. You can find these dynamic friends almost anywhere, you just need to have some initial interaction and then attach yourself like a limpet weather they want you or not. In fact they don't even have to know, you can just insert yourself in a bar or other gathering. Even if it backfires and they ridicule you, such a spotlight will only enhance your standing with some in the crowed. I hope this has given you some ideas, and I wish you well. Yours in insanity, Mad Nebbs the (Un)Wyse Witch of the Woods
