I am dialling back my involvement in FFXIV and am likely to not be around after September. So I will be handing the LS over to one of the officers to continue. You are all a great bunch, I'll leave enough welcome baskets to keep you going.

Sorry, for me this just adds more to the side of this being a non-serious game. Though many will say it never was. Why? You will find me in the corner being a grumpy old git.

Seems about right for UK atm. Doing a bad thing badly is becoming an SE trait now. Just greed over customer care. This puts the product in the cash cow, milk it for what you can camp. Don't listen to me though as I am jaded by many things ffxiv atm.

Yes I agree, this is what I expect and I'll add this additional nail to my coffin of why I dislike SE and this game. (grumble grumble seethe) Still like always I have a core of optimism so I will be hoping otherwise.

I think I have mostly played characters that get good through RP and not through background. It gives you deapth and breadth and establishes them.

9000 power in everything and multipass Or I just play a failure that has some basic okayness and may prove themselves in a critical situation. But honestly the best RP is in being imperfect and flawed. Occasionally I get carried away if pushed but try to remind myself to fall on my face.

This. Though it can get complicated if you get other retconing the same past differently. Such can occur when someone leaves a group for example. I'd suggest exploring IC bending of things before retcon.

So just the September issue for the RP gear. I can do that.

Lore Bomb? On the positive side... a great excuse to reboot or even complementary change your character and shock everyone! Time to get my shower scene prepared..

I know snooze. My advice, enable others RP in scenes you create and let them try things etc.. Don't do things with a predefined answer just let them progress with things that seem reasonable. This takes flexibility and a looseness if story to alow. Conversely the players have to respect someone has put effort into the writing a story. So they should try to work within that or run the risk of the GM going home . Myself I like it when two story tellers mash together. It becomes like who's line is it anyway... improv and freeform rp.

Welcome and it looks like you are already on your way to RP. If you have not done so already put something in your character note about looking for RP.

Or better ask, "Salvage? I'm looking for a replacement cannon for my ship. Maybe you know where we can get one? I'm happy to come along on any retrieval" Or "Salvage? I've got am old cannon that I want to get shut off. Could you come and give me a price. When's a good time for you?"

I'll also raise a hand for not bar RP. My main complaint with this is the RP never leaves the bar, and is similar to a sketch show. Story RP for me means my character has some story arcs running, and you can come along too. Ideally, you will have something similar and we see where the RP takes us. But as said, story/plot RP takes a lot of effort. It is frustrating to try and do this with intermittent random RP folks. However, story RP is wonderful and creates memorable experiences to shape your character. Bar RP us fine as a filler but I can survive on it.

In general I try to use a mount or minion that is easy to explain and fits in without much stretching. Chocobo, cat, dog etc.. For Nebula, being a witch she has two main mounts her broom and Goobbue (which she treats as a walking hill). Occasionaly may use the others if the situation suits but those are based on an RP need. Flying Magitek - nope, Though she has been trying out the Warlion (cf Aslan?) for some possible RP. Her minion is her familiar which is a fairy but can take other forms. So her familiar is her summon creatures (fairy, carbuncle, ifrit, etc..) and is mostly a black cat in RP. I do use the frog minion though as nebula is carrying a frog (to find a princess ofc). In terms of others, what I would ask is be consistent. Don't chop and change your look, pets. mounts etc.. And have some story behind it that anchors it in the unreality. Try to paint a consistent picture of continuity over time.
