  1. As you can see there are many ex SWTOR folks. You should fit in quite well. The play style is a bit different but RP wise quite similar IMO. The main on is that FFXIV favors the single character, with them being able to have every class. SWTOR is more alt focused with shared storage, housing etc..
  2. Just because, and otherwise, just in case, also there can never be too much. And if there is any doubt..
  3. 4. That's all nice and dandy, but you're the the exception. Most people aren't IC all the time, or only at certain locations. If you wanna add something here, Nebbs, beyond "I RP everywhere" I think the OP would appreciate that. I'm sure even you know of places you wish you could find easier RP ^^ In general terms there is a spread from those who RP all the time and everywhere to those who RP a fraction of the time and in specific locations. I don't think anyone is an exception here, it is just the wonderful diversity of how people like to play. There is no one-size-fits all answer. I did add more than "I RP everywhere" and even gave a list of "places", well aspects of the game that enable you to RP, with some reason, in a lot of places that are likely to have others at. Yes I could pick specific places, but let me say that around every corner I find a place that inspires me to want to RP. My list would be massive, should I ever note it down. Maybe I can spin this another way, given your last comment that made me think. Places that there should be RP but it seems lacking, and I will just pick one and then go on about Southern Thanalan as "more Ala Mhigo" could be expanded on I think. Foundation - many places, yet very little RP seen The Forgotten Knight - I have had some there but it is very few and far between Congregation of Our Knights Most Heavenly - great place if you go up the stairs, never seen anyone RP there Athenaeum Astrologicum - wonderful, magical. I have used it but never seen anyone else. The Holy Stables - a Nice pleasant place for a meet up (again nil use) Fire Circles - there are a few and they make great meeting places, I use these a reasonable amount. They have cauldrens Skysteel Manufactory has a nice shady upstairs, not used The whole cathedral - nice place to whisper plans and such, I sometimes just go there for the atmosphere but never saw any RP Southern Thanalan a few Extras that I have used The Sepulchre - great to use as a bandit stronghold to attack and rescue folks from. Also get a Fate that can add to the excitement Outside the Sunken temple - Ruins.. a staple for any adventurer, with a nice excursion into the dungeon if youw ant The undead east of Burnt Lizard Creek - wonderful to recover some lost artefact/clue from The Red Labyrinth - used for dreams, spiritual journeys, and such The little camp waaay South East on the map - a nice out of the way place to RP, though you will get some miners And for the avoidance of doubt.. my direct answers to the OP's questions Q. What parts of the world would YOU like to Rp in...? A. All of it, especialy outside of the Cities Q. Why would your character be there, and what sort of Rp would you think might be neat to develop in certain locations? A. I find IC reasons to be wherever I am, they can be very simple reasons too. It can also take some imagination and fudging. The point being to be open for RP and not restrict it just to a City. Q. More so, feel free to use this thread to spike conversation and set up some meet ups outside of Ul'dah for Twelves sake! A. Spike - I would recommend being up for RP should you run into it, and if you look for things you generally spot them. I would also suggest that even if RP starts in Ul'dah, try and lead it to other places. Set-up - Come poke me if you see me, it may only be a brief exchange but it will be a start. Q. I for one have been more interested in areas near the different dungeons, some Rp in the BeastTribe encampments...or some of the frosty locales in Coerthas. A. I agree and many others do. Yet if we wait for someone to set a place, time and reason for RP, we may be waiting a long time. Hope that expands and helps.
  5. Any part that is not already alive with RP. And I do achieve this. We don't need RP locations though. I am IC 100% and this means I can (and do) try to RP with people wherever I meet them. The response is 40% AFK, 40% "I'm OOC",and 20% actually respond (feels like 1%) which often turns into some lovely RP. However, just a simple exchange will make my day I can accept that some want a part-time RP approach and therefore having go-to RP locations helps service that. However, this is not me and I probably avoid such places. Locations.. 1 - where people gather due to game Any of the Aetherite's, just RP your arrival and you may hook a response Any vendor .. people go to vendors Any crafting guild.. just interact with the NPC or anyone else there 2 - bumping into someone While flying along While gathering.. ever chatted to folks as they fish? Outside houses in the residential zones Helping out someone in trouble (fate, or any combat) Meeting the stranger on the road 4 - Dungeons! Even if you start in a well populated RP location consider that we can run dungeons un-synced and they make for an excellent RP setting
  6. As this is my 1st FF experience... I'd go with.. "I don't know who you are or where you came from, but from now on you'll do as I tell you, okay?" (pre may the 4th hoot)
  7. Welcome, and good luck on the LS/FC side, take your time, go RP with the FC first. Plenty to choose from.
  8. Welcome, hope to see you around. Gheck out the linkshell list for a good way to connect.
  9. First.. Get a makeover, new hair and outfit! Go to some new places, meet new folks! Do things they would not have done before! Make this a "mid life" crisis for the character if you want What do I do if that does not work? Send the character on a sojourn, out of the way. Play with some alts Try other games Then you either come back to them because their story wont let you leave them alone, or you have found something else you would rather play This may be more about you the game and those you play (or not) with than the character. Retcon in my view should be used sparingly and is generally where there is no option, say due to other players messing things up. Even then, I would use it to preserve the character and not create a different one. All our characters have interacted, try to limit how much a retcon effect will ripple through folks.
  10. Nebula's approach.. and she is normally taken out early on First be stoic and stand your ground projecting an air of nul-concern A thump on the noggin with a sick can often shock people into respect When this proves to not work - Run, probably with screams to attract aid and disorient your attacker Deploy magic to slow, hinder and confuse (ice/oil floor, firework light effects, banshee howl) If others are helping, support and help them (toughen their skin, healing, extra lucky, flaming swords, whatever seems appropriate) and annoy the enemy (distractions, insect swarms, lethargy, trips, fumbles, bad luck) Escalation *rare* (unleash all the magic, burn down the house, one becomes three, dark fairy queen) Whatever the case there is generally a cover of slapstick over the top of using simple magic in an effective way with the OOC intent to enjoy the RP rather than win. Though if it is a high pressure IC situation, she will likely get to her serious pissed state.
  11. Hmm, I would say I treat the lore as a backdrop/framework that I reskin. So it all holds up but I take a different view on my characters perspective and understanding. The other thing i probably do is reduce things from there OMG EPIX level to something relate-able. On the surface I may be non-lore but behind all that it does fit. However, I'm not going to IC justify it or even get into an OOC discussion on specifics as that spoils the illusion.
  12. Stuff happens, like the big moon that fell down and hatched an angry dragon! But they are are out there with other stuff that happens. For my character all that stuff is places to be explored and adventures to be had, not the following of another's steps or even an idle bystander. So when I am doing the MSQ it never happens to her, and often I add in my own stranger story. Also tbh the hero in the MSQ feels like they do nothing but stand by like some powerless numpty.
  13. Well done you cool bear! I get the whole organisation side. Go be free make RPs and maybe don't struggle when you are kidnapped for impromptu performances. http://www.primaryteaching.co.uk/prodimg/B31_1_Zoom.jpg[/img]
  14. Let go of the worries, the name is fine. What we like is colour, character, a story and interaction. Names come waaaaay down the list. In fact, it in itself is a topic for conversation.
  15. Sounds great, don't worry about names lalafell cuteness will blind everyone Be a little loose with your story and you can adapt to fit in as the RP flows. The concept sounds good, and I like light hearted characters more than the dark moody types.
  16. Welcome, and did you know all your characters on that server can be included in the transfer? It may be worth making some blank alts as creating them on balmung directly is a pain. Anyhow, I look forward to you joining us.
  17. There wasn't an option for Performer/Entertainer, either. The closest one was mercenary. Considering the number of performer-based guilds that have greatly emerged in 2016, I see it as an omission. I had to go other too for magic services.
  18. Nebbs

    Howdy!

Tip: Do Roleplay Events, LS, FC, etc.. And welcome to Balmung
  19. I'm in UK, I used to use WTFast and that was fine, I now use nothing and it seems fine.
  20. Well latency does not affect RP that much They also fixed many of the mechanics that were lag problems You can always try something like WTFast if you are really into end-end game RP wise there is a big EU contingent. While most events are after midnight EU time there are some EU time friendly ones. What's probably better is finding and EU based Free Company (FC) that is active at RP organising. As you are already on Balmung, why not come and see for yourself and compare with the EU servers?
  21. Nebula was bought as an IC joke.. which kind of works I suppose once she got over the feelings... still... consequences.
  22. Hugs and if you need an ear I have two.
  23. So what you are saying is you have more time to be grabbed for RP? yes that's it.. yay!
  24. With 2016 seeing many of our heroes leaving us I'd like to just say we should all go and hug the heroes that are much closer to us in our every day lives.
  25. Bump, Tonight beginners Witchery class will cover Witch's Brews for: Cold Cure Breath freshener Revitalising Healing Smartypants Poison antidote Night vision
