  1. I know what you mean with the NA crowed.. time is not our friend. And for all the "EU friendly" aspects imo you will miss out on core FC/RP things. There are a bunch of EU folk about but not great choice on FCs. Check out the main ones, they tend to run events which is a great way to get a feel. Though often these are closed for recruiting at times. I have noticed a few active smaller EU FCs, those might suit you. And then there are LS, with the "what you get is what you get" warning. Try some out and see if any suit you.
  2. Welcome back... it's a whole new world and about to get bigger! Like Six said the linkshell list at the top. I'd probably say that there are lots, and they fall into three main categories... and most are quiet. IC - these tend to have an IC existence contain a few active people but you need an IC reason to join FC based - really for friends of the free company in question Themed - either RP, leveling or some other reason to get together and have rules or some sort imposed General chatter - with all the nonsense that comes from that I'd suggest picking one of the general RP focused LS to start with as a good way to start finding other RPers.
  3. Welcome to Balmung A lot of the things (90%) are NA focused but there is a plentiful and active EU bunch around. So you should be able to find some RP connections. Check out the European Directory, while not comprehensive it is probably the best starting point. And if you want to meet a passing odd-witch, I'd be happy to have Nebula run into A'riali.
  4. My main problem with things like this is when it becomes the main focus of someones RP. So with any affliction or disability, try to make it about the character first. And most people with affliction defined characters don't want it fixing, which kind of puts a knife in any RP progression. I also see such things as over used, and almost loose the will to carry on when I meet yet-another- character. That said, it could be useful for a one off plot. You could be creative about it, such as: Having a memory stealing wizards at large Someone is possessing people getting them to do things and then wiping their memory somehow You have someone else's memories of an event and they have yours, due to some shrunken monkey head curse Drinking a herbal tea that make you a bit absent minded Personally I have sort of used it as a slightly lesser alternative to retcon, when there was no other way around things, though I avoid such areas in RP so it seldom comes up. I have also done some RP where you find yourself in a slightly different world, which could be seen as your memories not quite matching reality but this was a closed RP and part of a long in depth plot rather than the main thing.
  5. Thanks for this and good to know. It seems is the world of fake news we now have fake-chat. I did think at first you were going to tell us how to create your own personal RP dialogues but then it got real and highlighted the lengths some will go to in "being dicks". I suspect the "screeny or it didn't happen" no longer applies. [edit] - In fact you might question the motives of those who push screen shots with their assertions... trust is the looser. It is a sad place to be where everything is fake, until proven otherwise.. and even then the proof should be seen as fake.
  6. Restarting this with a repeat of the "one time offer only never to be repeated!" See the OP With each RP get a free apple, a fortune card, one lucky gil and a coupon for half off your next RP!
  7. Still single.. this time I'll maybe have a bath and not eat raw fish before I come along!
  8. Nebula got the same CAMPAIGNER (ENFP-A) It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for – and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool – for love – for your dreams – for the adventure of being alive. Oriah Mountain Dreamer Though personally I'm INTP
  9. I'd be happy to connect, if this is EU times.. like before midnight and also day time at the weekends. Despite having a healthy EU number on Balmung and some LS and FCs there is still a deficit of RP activity until the later evenings and beyond.
  10. Great idea.. especially the really bad students looking for a worse teacher.. look no further! Oh! And come join the Bard Rock Cafe LS (& Discord).
  11. I would say you have more than enough detail there. Possibly too much and it may prevent you adapting when you start to RP. In terms of extra.. Have a think about Ryuji himself (great name btw;)), his feelings, what makes him happy/sad/angry, what his dreams are, how he engages with others stand-offish/fun/aloof.. and other personal traits. Often the flaws become the best features of a character. I'd also bring out more the Japanese honor side because I suspect there is a lot in there that would overlay the situation he finds himself in. Then when he gets to these barbarian lands how does he feel about what was good about his own culture. For myself I tend to have rough notes that lay things out (a bit like you have but not as detailed), then I flesh out things a bit before I play (enough to create a short bio) and then firm the rest up as it goes. I keep a note of things I lock in so that I'm consistent.
  12. Sure is and sure are.. the cake awaits!
  13. More housing would be good, if they can find a way to stop it being eaten up in 30sec. With the server moves and more capacity I'd have hoped they could just fix the whole problem. I was looking forwards to having an old run down place in Ishguard! So yay! more housing but I remain skeptical it won't be anything more than disappointment for the majority. They should have made housing established FCs only and left apartments for private buy.
  14. Those 3-4min performance take a lot of preparation, if you also compose your own songs & stories... much much longer. I have so much admiration for anyone who performs.
  15. It may be dated now but i did a topic on macros for performance. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11301
  16. Hmm, the real problem as I see it is other PCs you interact with. While you can rationalize your own story however you like, other people's characters will retain that experience & memory. So, I would try and find an IC reason for the different approach. Something that puts your FC on pause, and provides the impetus for your char to get out there, as well as allowing you to reintegrate in the future should that arrive.. This could be some effect or just a plain change in focus, maybe they all went off on a new venture and you were left behind to "mind the shop".. or whatever suits. It sounds achievable and without too much "deus ex machina".
  17. I think it is a great idea, I would consider putting my alt (a Raen) into the FC. If it were a LS I would definitely be in. Style wise, I'd lean more towards a home from home, resistance activists, with possibly a kind of a "rebels" feel. This would allow more room for various types of races & types. It would be interesting how the different parts of the Far Eastern refugees would overcome their differences behind a common purpose. Such IC drama would be good to have, rather than trying to lock things in with a defined hard structure I feel. My own character is a fallen samurai/yakusa sort, who is going through a personal journey of discovering self. I also have a tribal Xaela alt that would offer some tension against the stupid samurai ways, so may or may not fit. I would like to know more on the OOC and IC structure as for me this is what makes an open or closed environment. I'm a fan of open RP.
  18. Welcome.. I would say Limsa RP! There are a few active there and some (quiet) link shells around "pirate life". I can vouch for Rhenasi's mention of Mischief's Coven, an active bunch of skulduggery. There are a few more and I'd recommend going to their events to scope the scene. For myself, I have a Pirate Witch who is running around Limsa. Though she is more crazy than malicious.
  19. If you ever want some "fickle fate" RP then let me know. Maybe something around converging or conflicting divinations?
  20. Same(ish) experience, net effect is no items. It would not be so bad if they just added them to the store some time later. Though I am a strange one that wants to only have the stuff you can get in game.. but temptation dammit!
  21. More capacity for more housing would be nice. As for EU ping, I generally had < 120ms from the UK, so it should be fine.
  22. First understand the product you are selling: How much does it cost to make How much could it sell for (high & low) How active is the market for it Knowing this you should understand when you are: Making an excessive profit - often on rare hard to craft & high cost goods Making a reasonable profit - where most of the things you sell will be, but this can still be cost x10 Selling to recover what costs you can - probably because the market collapsed Then understand how you will sell and price: For fast selling goods the boards tend to be quite active. You can try and drop your price but likely you will be undercut, or pitch your price such that after some time those below you will be bought out and it will be your turn. I also find that the price on these goods varies wildly over the week, and takes a huge drop at the weekend. For slow selling goods you have to just stick it out, and consider if you want to match someone undercutting you for the sale. Provided I am still making a healthy profit I will generally drop the price to just below the other's. Price for competition is a bit more than undercutting. provided the goods are selling at a reasonable rate you don't have to undercut everyone. Look at the spread of prices, quite often there are some very high ones, some mid range ones and then some low ones where the price cutting churn is going on. Consider pricing to undercut the mid range ones but be above the low low ones fighting it out. I often find that the low price items sell out and the price resets to the mid range over night (or at least in a couple of days) and you sell at the price you are happy with. Stacks, or mass production offers you more choices. Selling as a single that is more expensive than the stacks works when buying just one of those items makes sense, and this is especially good for high cost items. Selling a stack of a useful number to match a hand-in, or usage, it makes it affordable and convenient. Selling a large stack and undercutting the smaller stacks makes it easy to those who don't care so much about gil. Consider who is buying and why. Just be aware of things in the game and what drives demand. Events that hand out new gear can lead to a rush on glamor as well as clothing that matches well with those given out or that match the season. The Expansion will see prices of certain good rise quite a bit, have a think what they might be. Even RP events such as balls lead to increased activity on certain clothing items. After all that it's really watching the board for what sells and adjusting to suit, along with a lot of patience. Remember it is a buyers market and being undercut is just the nature of things.
