  1. I don't tend to go out and "break" the lore, I am not really a fan of the idea that if I think something is a cool idea, I can just go out and do that without regard for the continuity and consistency in the world. So you wouldn't see me invent a new type of magic. But I do go in and study the lore when I have an idea and see how bendable it is, or if there's a hoop or even a gap. Depending on what I find, I may scrap or go ahead with an idea. It's a standard I keep myself to, and sure it's something I like to see other people do too - and I expect that of my FC, but they all know/agree with that. Otherwise it's nothing I force on people, but I do have my own steps to get out of RP I feel is too far away from what I can get involved in, and still keep to my standard. That doesn't make everyone who doesn't stick to it a baddie, I just know when it's time to go before things get too painful for everyone involved - It's generally a mutual waste of time if RP styles don't mix, imo. I've always disliked it when someone calls others a lore-nazi or a tight elitist and similar, because I often find that it's simply people akin to myself who gets up being labelled exactly because we sometimes pull ourselves out of things. I'm sure there are bullies out there who will whisper you for 2 months about how you cant do this and that, it just sucks to be put into the same box with them when you're not like that yourself (even if you can see that you're not and all of that, it's the stigma in it really). In your case, I'd probably have quirked an eyebrow and started googling/asking my geeks about stuff cause I'd be curious. *puts two gil in a box*
  2. Hello! Due to unfortunate circumstances, Nailah's sister recently passed away. Therefore I am now on the lookout for a priest or something similar, who can perform a burial ritual. It's going to be somewhere within the shroud (so maybe it would be fitting with a priest from that edge), and it should preferably be within EU times, meaning daytime for US people. The day can be negotiated. The event itself will be small-scale, those invited will be picked out by Nailah herself. Toss me a message if you have a character that fits the bill! Cheers
  3. You should come anyways It'll be fun! ^^
  4. 10 minutes! The first guests have already started showing up We're looking forward to seeing you there.
  5. How about including a small disclaimer (possibly one people can make poof once they have read it) that explains it on the articles they would affect?
  6. In honor of Nophica, The Moogle Bar is having a ball on the 15th sun of the Sixth Astral Moon. It takes place in the 5th ward of Lavender Beds, at plot number 3. The dresscode is formal. There will be snacks, drinks and music. Guests are encouraged to share tales and legends related to Nophica. For more information, contact Mikh'a Elakha. ((Event start: 8PM GMT / 12 PST / 15 EST. The event is held as a joint venture with KinRP. If you have any questions, or simply feeling like saying you'll show up, feel free to do so in this thread.))
  7. I don't really think it's fair to go out and "warn" against EU'ers rolling on Balmung. Any RP'er in any timezone can end up starved for RP if they do not have a big enough network / aren't doing enough to establish a network or become a part of one etc. I'm currently leading a free company that has 40 active RP'ers measured on people who log in at least once a week, and of those about 15 are from the US, but are all people who tend to be active during the US daytime. We've opened our house up to RP and I have made several threads here to try and get us further out among people that aren't just ourselves. We've also hosted at least two server wide events in the EU prime-time this year (I'd love to do more, but I am out of ideas and low on time) - I'm not saying this for bragging rights or anything, just trying to explain that we've done quite a bit and I dare say it's working. We started out as about 5-6 players when FFXIV launched. There's also still the Europa Linkshell, which granted isn't as active as it was right back at launch, but it still serves as a good list of people that are RP'ing within the EU timezone. I know of some that have left it because it was too chatty at times, but that's really up to what people are into. I don't think that the conditions for EU rpers would be any better on a European server, especially since there are no RP tags and I haven't so far encountered any websites that have a direct focus on EU rp'ers. You'll just have a small community that can't really pull the numbers. Instead of seeing a lot of events in the wrong timezone, I don't reckon you'd see so many events at all. I mean, yes, there's -a lot- of the events that are posted here on the RPC that start at like 4am, but there are also some that try to be flexible, etc etc. If any of you have any ideas for EU events, hit me up, I should be able to get enough people if there's an interest from my FC. Heck, our FC even has a big focus on being able to do things for others, anything from merc contracts to nameday parties. We were even out looking for a missing person once. You don't have to be alone. Say hi! We don't bite! I PROMISE!
  8. I just created a character right now. If you're around you should try.
  9. So this is something I thought of a few days ago. As it is right now, not a whole lot of the friends I have IRL know that I roleplay, because.. Well, they wouldn't understand, it's a bit too "nerdy" - But a chunk of them also only understand mmorpg's when I say "It's kinda like WoW". It should be noted that I'm mainly speaking from the point of view of RP in MMORPG's here and not so much other types. So imagine a world where roleplaying is mainstream. What'd it look like? Would it be better or worse? Could it change how we roleplay? What kind of impact would it have of the games we roleplay in? Do you reckon it might happen one day? I'm a little torn on if it would be better or not - I think my biggest concerns with it would be if the way we roleplay, or say if some of the big unspoken rules would be forgotten, that would be hard to adjust to or stomach. But I must admit it would be nice to not be considered odd/weird/nerdy for staying in on a friday night because of an RP event, and actually be able to say that such is why you're staying in and you're not just some lonely hermit - and just be able to openly speak about these awesome things we do. And well, the more people who got into it, I reckon we might see more game tweaks that would be good for RP, because it'd be something a lot of people cared about. Come with your thoughts! I'm curious.
  10. My character Nailah/Sastra (The latter name was given to her) is also a refugee from Ala Mhigo and was also orphaned, though she went to an orphanage in Ul'dah (I always presumed there must have been some, or some close by) through a rescue attempt carried out by un-named people that saved her and several other children during the fall. Upon getting kicked out of the orphanage (on the count of being too old) she went travelling, and in here I have it that she eventually came upon little ala mhigo and whilst she never lived there, she'd have been prone to come there and tell stories from the road and bring what she could to support them, if not the refuge as a whole then individuals she grew fond of. And now that she is more thanalan-bound and better off financially speaking, she'd be supporting it in an increased degree. So in that regard you may be able to know of her and her storytelling, or we can work something else out - goes for anyone really. I've always wanted to get in touch with more Highlanders.. Maybe a directory akin to that for elezen would be in order?
  11. I wouldn't be opposed to an opportunity to get more connections, though it'd all depend on how and when it happens. I tend to be sleeping when most people are RP'ing due to timezone differences, but I do have nights where sleep can go !#¤% itself ^^
  12. Chucked invites to as many people as I could find online
  13. Woohoo! I successfully changed Sastras name to her actual ic name. I've been wanting to do that since I selected Sastra as my RP character a year ago, and I've had a placeholder for the name all this time. Best news to wake up to
  14. Maril

    Hi!

Welcome Sounds like you have a pretty cool character ^^
  15. Alternatively, right after a maintenance is also a good time. For me the maintenances usually end at 11am, so that's around 10am for UK people.
  16. For those of you with certain Nvidia graphics cards, you can enable Nvidia Shadowplay - it automatically records the last 20 minutes of any game you play, so you can see things that way. It's very good for those of you who are in static teams.
  17. The UK afternoon is the best time to try. On the mogstation you can see the various re-evaluation points for the character restrictions It basically depends on how many players are logged in at the time of the re-evaluation point. Every 5 or so hours.
  18. I would recommend joining Balmung, there's a strong EU presence there. The lag is hardly noticeable.
  19. What about something like props? I was thinking of the theatrical world and.. I guess, for example a player created organization or town or whatever could sort of be regarded as a prop that one uses for ones RP. Otherwise, I like the look of everything so far
  20. The OP has been updated with additional information, hopefully that will help yous all to better understand what we do and what kind of characters might fit in
  21. Many questions! I'll have a stab at them: Balmungs character creation window is /usually/ open during the very early mornings US time. On the mogstation you can always see a topic called "Regarding character creation restrictions" or so where they list the re-evaluation points (every 5 hrs) - It all depends on the servers load in the given window, Balmung is one of the most popular US servers so the creation is never open in primetime. Additionally, whenever there is maintenance, the creation is usually open when the servers come up again. When you create a character, save their appearance data so that you can quickly go through the process when the windows open, and have a name in mind. You can find the naming conventions here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/491-Lore On Balmung, I dare say there's always some sort of RP going no matter what time of day it is. There is a strong EU presence, and we RP during the US daytime and well, then there of course is the US primetime too. The adventurers guild in Ul'dah is one of the hotspots for random RP. Depending on what you want, you can find FC's that have a mix of PvE and RP and you may see those FC's having statics for the raids, so yes absolutely can you both do PVE and RP. As for what type of RP that is accepted.. Honestly a bit of everything, I've seen representations of the full spectrum from light to heavy RP. I would recommend looking through the Linkshell hall here and find a couple of linkshells and an FC that you can sympathize with. Whilst a lot of RP is out in the open, it's always best to have a group. I'll leave the lancer lore to someone else, cause I haven't the faintest about that one ^^ I also can not comment on how things are on Gilgamesh as I have never been there.
