  1. Hey! Welcome aboard! I hope you enjoy yourself enough to keep enjoying this game with all of us. It's fantastic! Send me a message if you've got any questions or need any help. I love to help whether its with lore or in game content just let me know. Take it easy and have fun!
  2. Good stuff, man. Looking forward to it. Count me in.
  3. No. I think you can pretty subjectively say that. Ul'dah on concept alone stands tall. A desert city with merchant princes and high levels of monetary disparity between the rich living in excess and the refugees merely scraping by. A city with a realm renown coliseum with rags to riches stories providing every yahoo with a dream a way out of poverty. A city of greed, and scheming. A city where around every corner is a scheming man trying to raise his station in life. I think that atmosphere provides a very nice city to roleplay in. Now, I see where you're coming from in that a lot of its main selling points are walled off, and that is a pity, but with a bit of imagination I find that the feel and flavor of the place is just as good as physical access to these locales. In my opinion, Limsa Lominsa could also provide similar avenues in its streets filled with cutthroats and ex-pirates, and its transitional culture, but... it can be a pain in the bum to maneuver so I think that's why ultimately Ul'dah won out in the RP hub department. With that being said, I support more piratey scallywag RP.
  4. You don't get it? Like you don't understand it? It's about the challenge. It's about being competitive and beating others to the finish line. Like Nascar, yeah the others will eventually finish the race, but you did it first. It's an undeniably nice feeling to win in a competition. Hardcore raiders compete against each other and challenge themselves to beat content at breakneck speeds and this is very enjoyable to them. Simply by nature, we're a very competitive animal. Nothing wrong with enjoying the game that way if that's your thing, or enjoying the game at your own pace either. On the oither hand, skipping cutscenes, or at the very least not rewatching them is pretty inexcusable for those who want to ground themselves in the lore of the game. No, we don't play the Warrior of Light, but we do play in this world and sometimes the MSQ has world-shaking implications that whatever character you roleplay will feel.
  5. I don't feel any overwhelming anxiety most of the time. When I do, it usually stems from not having prepared well-enough for the task I'm about to do, not having done the research so to say. Being new doesn't cause me any anxiety as stating outright and upfront right at the start of whatever I'm doing. "Hey, this is my first time, let me know what I could do better." Absolves me of all sins. It might help to read about whatever dungeon you're doing, and the specific responsibilities your role with entail. Try your best to relax and enjoy the experience. You can't help but run into some bad apples - it's the internet, but I find on the average most groups are people just like you trying to get their queue done just like you.
  6. Hello my friend! I'm going to tackle these questions in reverse order, and give you some advice on your concept. Elementals are present throughout the entire world of Hydaelyn. They are the -elements- of the world. Within the Twelveswood, because of very specific circumstances they are comfortable enough to show themselves at times and have established a relationship with the Gridanians. Basically there are elementals in every bit of the world, but they don't all possess the same strength and most are very shy. As presented in game, Conjury is a very specific form of magick taught in a place known as the Stillglade Fen, long since learned from Moogles. I disagree fully that you do not need specific training for the specific art of Conjury as without spoiling much the entire questline revolves around helping someone who's doing it wrong. It can be inferred that that is not the only way to bungle it up and therefore to perform Conjury as the Gridanians do you would need to know the spells and rituals of the Gridanians. So how do we make a nature magick-oriented Raen then? You're on the right track with your ideas. Being taught by a shaman or spiritual leader of some sort could easily have them learning nature magicks. The idea of her grandmother teaching her something akin to Conjury is perfect. It could perhaps have a bigger tinge of Animist beliefs and therefore incorporate the spirits of the world in a very Asian style. Another idea if your desire is to be as close to a Gridanian conjurer as possible is being a hearer. A hearer is a Gridanian term for a person who has been born with the amazing ability to hear the elementals. This seems to be an ability you're born with, though others can reach similar levels of communion with extensive training. Your Raen could be born a Hearer in a faraway land. Taught in the nature magicky ways of her Granny. I hope that's clear, ask me more if it's not, I like helping. Take it easy.
  7. So much this. But it isn't even the mundane meta that's the problem. It's this idea that if someone does something you don't like, it's automatically bad and has to be 'fixed'. Because an individual has an idea of how Rp should work, how their standards are set up, that you are automatically bad. For people with so much creativity, so many are quick to discount their credibility as roleplayers because an idea doesn't fit with how they think a lore works. Some things are fuzzy and have grey borders. If you think an idea is bad, that doesn't mean it 'needs to be improved'. It means you think it needs to be improved, which is not the same thing. At this point folks, it's turning into a lot of snark, condescension, and headbutting. And a lot of it's gotten seriously off topic from the original point entirely. So that being said, I think I'm going to remove myself from the discussion as it's gone out of discussion territory and into another fight about what kind of RP is bad and what isn't, which wasn't the point of OP's question. Cheers. No, not this at all. No this at all. That's not even remotely close to what's happening in this thread. OP asked for thoughts. I mean that's it really. It's that simple. No witchhunts, no metagame, no grand mundane crusade. You ask for thoughts. You get thoughts.
  8. Na, that's not all we can do. Particularly not in a thread where the OP asked us for thoughts. In a thread where the OP continually remarks that he doesn't understand why people don't want to rp out his concept or why he's being denied access to certain FC's because of it. In this case, we can do something else... we can inform the OP as to the reason for why some people are going to shy away from that concept. If the OP seeks genuine understanding then this method is very practical, and effective.
  9. I don't understand this thread. Are you telling us that you don't understand why people don't like and won't rp with your concept? Or are you asking us to explain why people don't like and won't rp with your concept? If the first one, yeah, it's tough. Good luck trying to find people out there who think that's cool and interesting like you do. They're out there, you're just going to have to do a deeper search and be patient. If you're asking, then Shuck's responses have been pretty spot on, and make quite a bit of sense to me. Read them over a couple times or ask him questions about it and maybe he or someone else can explain, but it's pretty simple. A good portion of roleplayers enjoy well-written characters. Cross-world travelers in a setting where cross-world traveling is not common screams poorly written character.
  10. Hello! I'm going to update and bump this thread since I'm still looking for a DRK Mentor. (I'm having a tough time matching Clementine's times, though I won't stop trying!) A DRK Linkshell would be very interesting, but honestly, judging by the amount of responses to this thread I feel that there's not a lot of RPC'ers actively roleplaying experienced DRK -as presented by the game- out there. Or maybe no one wants to teach my character, hehe. Either way, it sounds interesting. Aaron, my main man. Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it, but I'm really looking for something closer to what is presented in game. I want the struggle with the Darkness, holding back that bloodthirst. Sounds fun to me. Please, don't be shy if you're on the fence. I promise many funs will be had. I'm EST, but I go to bed very early, and wake up even earlier so I'm actually pretty EU friendly.
  11. It's pretty clear to me that it's birth order of males. First son: 'a Second second: 'to And so on. Even if you're born after two sisters you're still the first son. Even if five sisters are born afterwards, your brother will still be the second son and thereby be named Whatever'to Whatever. As to the second part of your post, Keepers of the Moon living in clans is not community headcanon. Here's a quote from the naming conventions. So while the use of the specific word Clan is not present here, a group of two or three close-knit families is the precise definition of a clan. Anyway, call them what you want. Clans or communities. They do still live in small groups of inter-related or close knit families, though never more than two or three families.
  12. Everyone's got some good points. I want to add something though... Because of the way the job lore has been presented you will definitely need a solid background explaining how you were able to be infused with that primal aether. But more importantly I think is recognizing that Summoner in this world is not a simple, carefree bit of magick that anyone can do. It's an ancient, forgotten powerful magick, and to the bumpkins of most of Eorzea, beset on all sides by primal forces it will seem nearly sacrilegious. Basically what I'm saying is it's a big deal. It's not to be taken lightly, its a big choice for your character and roleplaying it well will take a good amount of research into the lore of the class, and a good amount of time fleshing out your background to justify how your character came to acquire this ancient, powerful magick. My suggestion would be to begin as an Arcanist, taught in the guild or by a private tutore or self-taught with some book, whatever you want. But start there, and roleplay the path to becoming a SMN. (You'll still have to have her be doused by primal aether at some point, but it's a nice slow start as you learn the lore.) Also you get a super cute carbuncle to play with. Anyway, asking here is a great first step! I wish you the best luck in fleshing out your character and joining us for some fun roleplay.
  13. Hello Sapphire44 and welcome! Here's the dealio, my friend. Having more than two or three sons is rare, but it happens. You need very little explaining to do as to why a Male Keeper of the Moon wanders the land on his lonesome as they are nomads and wanderers by nature/culture. Kyran'sae Shuga is a fine name. Fourth born of Matriarch Kyran Shuga. The Miqo'te as a whole do not have a nomadic theme, certainly Seekers live in tribes presiding over specific territories. Keepers of the Moon similarly live in clans comprised of several families. Keepers of the Moon males specifically however are lone wanderers, presumably wandering from clan to clan after coming of age. Though that's not been outright stated, it can be heavily inferred in a Post Moogle quest at level 50 where a sedentary male presiding over many females is seen as grotesque. You don't need to orphan him or have him disown his family. It's entirely reasonable for him to wander right into Gridania and fall in love with it or whatever reason you have for him staying there. Though keep in mind there is some racism to deal with as a Keeper living in Gridania. As to your final question, what your character wishes to be known as is entirely up to him, I don't think there's any government institutions presiding over names. However, in my opinion, I think culturally because the first part of the name is the mother's first - all that defines a keeper male is that number. Taking off the number and just going by the momma's name would be like losing some of your identity. I play my Keeper as very proud of that number, oftentimes correcting folks when they leave it out of his name. "Zagi, is my mom's name. My name is Zagi'-zi." If he wants to reject the culture he comes from I think he would altogether drop both names and choose something entirely different, but once again that's his choice. And yours by association. Sorry this got so long winded. Later! Have fun.
  14. Alright! Here's a sneak peek at the Ayanga Warband's lore I'm working on. If anyone wants to use this Warband as a background, that'd be freaking awesome. Just send me a PM, and we'll work your character in there. I'm still working on fleshing out the background so it's a great time to join up. Also if any other player-run clans want to incorporate some Ayanga Warband into their past, most likely some sort of conflict in the past I'd love to iron that out. We make great antagonists!
  15. I went in the morning of release and my experience was relatively pleasant. We one shot the first floor, two shot the second floor, three shot the third floor, and I lost counts on the last floor, but we managed the kill probably five or six attempts in. All in all not too bad, I feel the quality of the last group was lacking a bit too, and most of the wipes were sort of just recognizing what something looks like. Little things that you get by doing rather than reading. It was also a four BRD group, which not to pile in the BRD Hate, but coulda contributed. It helped that I had a reddit TLDR guide up on my other monitor and was able to copy paste it for people who were new. All in all, I think the difficulty is in a good spot, not too soft, not too hard, but then again its all dependent on the difficulty of savage.
  16. You're being silly. Enjoy your cutscenes and take your time.
  17. There is a little less than 2.0, no doubt. About one less primal, one less story dungeon, and the relic chain. But the experience is mostly the same. Hit max level, hit max gear level, do max level content. It's just the MMO formula. I see where you're coming from on the lack of accomplishment, gear wise. Still, I found accomplishment in actually hitting sixty and taking my time and enjoying every quest, and finishing the MSQ. I imagine the game will feel a bit more complete with the second set of gear coming out with the new tomes.
  18. If it's not too much trouble go ahead and switch my placing from Dotharl to a player made clan. I ended up going with a player-made clan since I'm seeking more freedom to creatively delineate all their traditions and customs. In any case, Ogudei Ayanga has been made! I have to write up my Ayanga Warband headcanons, but if anyone's interested in having a highly sadistic, and brutal warband as part of their Xaela's background send me a PST! (Totally open to working with you and fleshing out the Warband together.) I'll post what I've written up soon.
  19. What have the moogles done to deserve this much hate other than, y'know, over 9000 quests in Churning Mists? The level 58 DRK quest. I would have liked, y'know, something related to the rest of the DRK questline, instead of some moogles trying to be evil. I think you misunderstood that quest. It was very related to the rest of the chain despite it featuring moogles heavily, and explains that love is a very important factor when channeling the Darkside. After seeing that comment I braced myself for a bad sidequest but was pleasantly surprised. Probably one of my favorite quests. Funny moogles, Info on source of Darkside power, and character development from the main characters.
  20. That's unfortunate, Viola. And definitely hitting you up on Clementine. That being said, if there's any other IC DRK's it would really help my character's transition to see them in action. Send me a PM or reply here if you're an IC DRK looking for RP
  21. Character Name Ba'akari Nunh Gladiator Name The Blood-crazed Boar Current Age 23 Age While A Gladiator - 23 Main Weapon: Fists, Horas or Khatars depending on the ruleset. Fighting Style Ba'akari's fighting style and strengths revolve around his superior endurance and agility. He controls the distance by staying beyond his opponent's reach before dashing in with vicious debilitating counters to the body. Where They Fought/Fight both past and present Mostly underground pits, and illegal skirmishes along with twice in the Grindstone. Any Other Notable Characteristics In battles, it is most notable that he seems to outright enjoy every second, oftentimes prolonging skirmishes(Usually by maintaining himself just beyond reach) to study and appreciate his adversaries. He is dedicated, oftentimes found after dark in the training squares of the guild or early morning running along the crowded streets dodging merchants like it was practice. I'm looking for a Lanista for this character in order to help him grow into a proper Gladiator. Also, an IC Monk to mentor him and take him along that path. But throw me up there too!
  22. That moment when you realize your perfect, flawless post that on its own might make a convincing argument that you are the modern reincarnation of Shakespeare himself hasn't been responded to in a while... You're anxious. It's so good, and perfectly showcases your character. It is an embodiment of his spirit in text form. You want to be nice though, you don't want to hurry your partner if they're just taking a little longer than usual, so you wait, and you wait. You RP partner whispers you after a while. "Did you post?" You scream your lungs out cursing the FFXIV chat system. Once more it has arbitrarily decided to devour your post, perhaps believing it too gentle, too pure for this world. You reluctantly set out to break your masterpiece up into smaller bits.
  23. I don't roleplay with the people caught in Fantasia Mania. Not my style. If my characters are forced into an interaction with someone claiming to have used one they would react appropriately. Read: Label person insane, and avoid. Both, IC and OOC, as at that point it becomes apparent that the person has a different roleplaying style as me. Kudos to them, not my thing though.
