Much of 1.0 was officially retconned and dusted up under the rug. If it is not mention in 2.0, it's not of importance. If it does get mentioned, then sure, I'll change my mind, but until that point, it's an exercise in futility and expecting the community to know about it, much less actually give any thought or regard to matter, is frankly absurd. We can't play 1.0 anymore and SQX doesn't want us to remember it; there IS a reason 2.0 is so seamless in its presentation and this would be why. I don't think much of 1.0 was officially retconned anymore than the original Warcrafts were retconned when World of Warcraft came out. It's still the same world which makes everything in 1.0 canon until 2.0 states its not. Not the other way around. I believe Raya-O-Senna says something to this effect at the end of the level 30 WHM job quest -- something that's more or less, "if you abuse this power, the elementals will tear it away from you" -- but, IMO, we need to look at that through the lens of who's saying it and overall context of the quest. She could truly believe that, or she could mostly believe that but be trying to bully the Adventurer, who she doesn't like and doesn't trust. That's interesting. Hmmm, definitely could be a bit of fearmongering or ignorance. It could also be literal tearing... as in sending wood animals to tear out your heart.

The elementals are not capable of doing this. Again, the elementals may be the original source of Succor, but they do not control it. If they could take away Succor on a whim, why were the White Mages able to abuse it to such excess? Why did the elementals have to kill them all and wipe their civilization out of history in order to protect the secrets of the magic? Because they have no control over the magic, save for the control granted by their own inherent might. It's like Ishgard and chocobos, really. Now, the elementals may attack someone who came into illicit control of Succor. That would be fairly logical. But nothing in lore suggests that they can just flip the proverbial switch and off goes the magic. Does anyone have some lore evidence of the Elementals turning off Succor like a switch? As far as I know I only ever see them get pissed off and try and impose their might to end the use. Or even use the forest to very literally hide the art and prevent others from accessing it physically. It might be that Succor is granted or learned or siphoned or what have you, but once you know it... you know it for good or bad. That is to say,I think the elementals block access physically... Either by beating people up who try and learn it, or literally covering an entire city in roots. I don't think they have a magical on/off switch for Succor, but I'd love to be shown evidence to the contrary.

Unfortunately, the link I provided is pretty awful and does not provide actual quotes from in game I don't think. There might be screenshots of her words floating about, but I've no idea how to find them.

Cool thoughts, my friend. I agree with most of your headcanons as they make sense when working with what we've been given. I have to say though that I don't agree with monogamy being a common practice among Keepers of the Moon. In this, the moogle mail quest concerning the Keeper of the Moon female is really telling, and guides most of my own headcanons. In it, the main quest person describes her family unit and not once makes mention of her father. It's as if the father does not exist as part of the family unit. She describes her family as her mother, her, and her sister. That coupled with what we have been given about Keeper of the Moon males as nomads and wanderers leads me to believe that the process would be much more like... A clan of Keepers- Matriarch, Daughters, Sisters and sons too young to begin wandering live in the forest. Every so often, a male from a different clan will wander in carrying a nice fresh kill or something to impress. Some females will mate with this wandering male, some won't. Either way, he continues to wander on to other tribes until his death. I think that is much more likely as far as Keepers are concerned judging by the small amount of lore in their description and this Delivery Moogle quest.

Your character is rescued by a Black Mage, how does s/he respond?

Jullienaux would regard the man with respect and show his gratitude with a subtle nod. Then sheathe his sword and get the hell outta dodge. -
Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available

I had the same impression as I was reading it. Very gallant and chivalrous for a Dark Knight. I mean comparing it to FFXI's version where you had to quench the thirst of your blade with the blood of one hundred foes.... This seems very just and righteous for a Dark Knight, but we'll have to see. They made very little mention of what form the Darkness takes or what its purpose is to these knights... I hope that's where we'll find their more dark flavor. -
Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations

I suck at quoting stuff, but this in response to Milly's statement about the lack of racism in Eorzea to the best of their knowledge. In Gridania, outside of the Lancer's guild there's a trio of Elezen having a conversation that contradicts your reality of the in-game world. A wood wailer is chewing out another gentleman for some transgression. His partner states "Damnable Duskwights!" As the duskwight apologizes, and assures the two Wailers it won't occur again. That's just one example off the top of my head though, there's quite a few other examples out there about race-relations, and racism. Let's see, the interracial gay couple of the Wanderer's Palace unlock quest that are looked down on more for being interracial than being homosexual. (An interesting look at the realm's culture.) -
I don't see how this could cause a shitstorm. It shouldn't. Some sound statements in your post. Hopefully it helps anyone curious about the methods of romance in roleplay but uncomfortable speaking on the subject.

Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations

It takes more imagination to take mundane or commonplace elements and bring them together in a fashion that makes them interesting and engaging rather than taking everything you deem cool and forcing it down a bloated character's throat until it bursts. -
I was thinking about this recently and my friends just told me to focus on the current expansion... But... As I see it, the way its been done in every MMO I've ever played or heard of is to do new themes in each expansion in order to keep it fresh and exciting. Colors, music, landscapes... and even plotlines. The problem with Ala Mhigo is that assuming that the next expansion is to take back Ala Mhigo and we get Gyr Abania and Xelphatol the bulk of such an expansion's plot would still revolve around fighting a war against the Empire for the liberation of Ala Mhigo. (Unless they just say 'we won' in the expansion cinematic, and boom we're in Ala Mhigo. Seems dumb though.) To have the next expansion after that be pushing further up into Garlemald territory would or even dealing with Garlemald at all would be too soon. "We just fought the Garleans!" It would feel stale in my opinion. No, I think if the next expansion is Ala Mhigo they'll add Xelphatol and Gyr Abania, and then some sort of threat we've never heard of will arise from those mountains and take us southward to Meracydia or perhaps Westward to whatever that is. -Then- we might see some more Garlean aggression, and roll our way into Garlemald in an expansion focusing on Ilsabard.

Just because poor ol' Fraceig the fisherman can't read doesn't mean he can't love the written word when read to him by his wife! In my head, I think it makes it more adorable that this poetry-loving Barracuda taught her partner how to read using love poems. And now I'm making headcanons for other people's character's parents. Help me.

Very detailed. Great character There's a lot to work with there to make her very interesting in roleplay. The only thing that comes to my mind in terms of lore sensitivity is that as juicy and ironic as her mother making ends meet through literary works about her daughter is... I urge you to keep in mind that because of Eorzea's low literacy rates I don't think she'd be making anything considerable from writing, maybe from a particularly enthusiastic patron, but otherwise her clientele would be very limited. Or otherwise she'd need to be -very- popular with the right people to be making considerable gil. I guess in general I'm just pointing out that you should keep in mind that reading and writing in Eorzea is a bigger deal than in our world, and though you've gone to great lengths to explain certain minor things, you've glossed over a bit how as far as I can tell a common fisherman and a 'Cuda sailor became proficient in the written word. Anyway, good luck and have fun.

The original poster seems quite chill. His rant seemed articulate enough, and even comical at times. He is displaying his opinion in a public forum in a respectful enough manner. I agree with his main point about the inherent absurdism in slaying primals willy-nilly. However, it does not bother me any how other people wish to roleplay or what they wish to roleplay as long as they're having fun. I'll make a private joke about crazy over the top, primal slaying, Shiva-bedding character with my friends. We'll laugh and then continue roleplaying while adhering to the lore standard we deem appropriate for our storytelling. Everyone has fun! -
A warm hello to those who might be reading! The Hand has decided to open up recruitment once more and with that I have decided to update this post. We do not have numbers at the moment, but we do have quality! So if this concept appeals to you then don't hesitate to shoot Jullienaux Sintierre, U'narhi Zhiku, or Narcisseoix Valliere a message in game. Our storyline as an FC has advanced and gone through quite a few ups and downs both IC'ly and OOC'ly but we're still rockin' on to our own beat. We're more of a casual FC but with summer just around the bend we're on almost all the time. We also enjoy endgame content when not RP'ing and are recruiting for an all RP'ers Static for the Second Coil of Bahamut. We are friendly and we definitely enjoy helping others so if the concept appeals to you and your character then bring him along!

I created a general Elezen linkshell a long time ago when the Elezen directory thread was relevant. It is called Unity and Fraternity to mark and encourage the union of the two clans. That is, however, the only hint at any IC inclinations. The shell as it stands serves as an ooc connection between a very large number of Elezen. The shell is doing very well and as I said includes a large number of Elezen roleplayers. Everyone can invite and the only requirements is a pair of knife ears and elongated shape.

*steps out of the shadows.* The Hand of Fate continues its crusade against evil from the shadows. 8-)

I think this is an amazing idea, and I'm willing to lend my support on Balmung.

The Hands of Fate support this initiative. Jullien Sinmal and U'narhi Zhiku will need invites. Thanks!

There are a lot of good RP Free Companies with solid groups of people where you can have loads of fun. I think that to find the one that fits you, your theme, your style, and your likes/dislikes we need a bit more information about you and what you're looking for. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in your search.

I've always thought of Elitists in RP, Raiding, and Pvp as those who define themselves as better than others because of their perceived skill, and derive pleasure from the attempt to make others recognize their perceived skill. Being good at the game is a separate thing, and Elitists are not always good, but they always possess the attitude and believe that they are and you are inferior. Basically, it's one thing to be skilled and play well, it's another to think that it makes you have more value as a human being and gives you the right to be a douchenozzle to others. Usually they do this, under the mistaken belief that you will be seen as -more- skilled because you are arrogant or unhelpful and it's beneath you to utter a friendly phrase.

I liked it.

My favorite alignment to play is lawful evil. Therefore, I can't bring myself to agree with this at all. Even evil characters and villains (because not all antagonists need be evil) still have their own moral codes. Most are doing whatever they do for some grander scheme, not a simple "I do what I want so screw everyone else." Some still have their own set of rules, be it strict or no. It's more difficult, I think, to have a character selfish enough to be called "evil," yet still have to make her adhere to a certain code of conduct than it is to have a "good" character who sticks to her guns. Honestly, I find "true evil" the most difficult to play for the opposite reason--I have very strong morals in real life and consider myself a pretty decent person, so to play a character with no morals and no regard for others is far out of my comfort zone. I agree with Faye in that I don't think evil or good characters are simple or boring. In my opinion, alignment is one piece of a bigger issue. I think the main thing is that one dimensional characters are boring. All good, will do good no matter what just because good is good. Boring. Similarly, evil just because evil is cool and halloween is cool and witches, and I have no reason to be mean but I will be anyway. Boring. Why is your character so good? Why are they so evil? If you can flesh that out and make that interesting, then it doesn't matter what alignment you choose. Your character will be interesting, and fun to roleplay with. Also, I'm of the believe that there is good in all evil and a little evil in all good. Every villain something they truly care and love, every hero something they're selfish about.
