I went to the Starlight Ball and all I got was this lalafell-sized knife in my back >(( Good to see the tradition was maintained! I'm glad it went over well. I wasn't able to go (well, C *wouldn't*, all things considering), but it looks like it was fun.

I honestly don't have a problem with the sexual dimorphism shown by the Au Ra. I mean, look at the Roegadyn. There's a similar difference in height between Roe men and women as there are in the Au Ra, but the build difference is almost enough to make them look like different races. The Au Ra, at least, have build similarities between the men and the women. Granted, it would have amused me if the sexual dimorphism went the other way, but hey, it's a Final Fantasy game. It's like buying an AC/DC album. You don't buy an AC/DC album thinking "I wonder what this is going to sound like". You know what you're getting.

Since this seems like a lot of people are interested; I'll most likely make this a monthly or bi-montly thing and just start picking different ones to change location each time so a list of choices will be handy. c: Lovely! C doesn't get in a lot of fights, but he's a low-power character and I'm not unwilling to let him lose, so he's taken some serious damage: His right palm is terribly scarred after a thaumaturge heated a dagger he was holding - it had a wire-wrapped hilt that stuck His right flank has rough scars from an armored Roegadyn that shattered his ribs The scalp on the right side of his head under his hair is scarred from a kick that fractured his skull in the same attack The left side of his back bears a small scar from a dagger thrust in the same attack

I've been mostly out of the RP scene lately, but I've always tried to stick to a semi-realistic low-power lore-oriented feel. C'kayah lives in Eorzea, but he's not a Warrior of Light. He doesn't possess world shaking power. He's an ordinary man living in an extraordinary place. The power he does possess is mainly social - he's good at making and keeping connections with people. I suppose a good way to describe how I approach RP with him is he's a character actor who thinks he's playing the lead role. As far as action scenes go, I'm heavily inspired by Fritz Leiber, and my own writing during action and fights reflects that. Though, like I said, C'kayah's powers are mainly social, so if he's gotten into a fight, he's already done something wrong. He's a decent, but not powerful, fighter with a fairly defensive style, but at the end of the day he's not superhuman and I'm entirely willing to let him lose (something which has caused conflicts with other RPers in the past - a lot of us like to think in terms of light-vs-heavy RP, but I think the high-vs-low power level is a more important axis).

And lo, with the dawn of a new day, C'kayah awoke with the crystal certainty that soon would come his day, his purpose, his victory.

+1 to what Coat says. I'll add to that by saying that if you approach RP from the point of view that you're a supporting role in someone else's plot, you'll have a much easier time finding RP. I've gotten a lot of RP by saying "I have a crime syndicate. If you want villains for your RP arc, we can help!"

To save the hassle of leveling one up, possibly. Yep, this right here! At rank 6 you get access to land, so if anyone was ever interested in making a free company and purchasing a house, half of the work is cut out for them. More than half, honestly. I remember when TN decided to go for a house, the gil came quickly but it took quite a while to hit rank 6.

Exactly. As the saying goes, if the tank dies, it's the healer's fault. If the healer dies, it's the tank's fault. If the dps die, it's their own damn fault.

So, way back in the mid eighties, one of my first video games was Elite. It was this crazy sandbox of a space trader game all done in 3d wireframe with a ridiculous learning curve (see that slot in the station there? You have to fly into it to dock, matching rotation with the spinning station). Well, a few years ago one of the guys who did it did a kickstarter for a new version of it, which has just released with substationally better graphics. Anyone else going to by flying around that big ol' galaxy with me? If so, look me up. I'm Commander Satsuma.
