Does your character have any unfair Bias or Discrimination?
C'kayah Polaali replied to Kage's topic in Character Workshop
C'kayah is very fond of Coatleque. She's taken him from merely well off all the way to obscenely wealthy in one fell swoop! -
Storyline introducing SCANDAL to an event involving winnings

Does your character have any unfair Bias or Discrimination?
C'kayah Polaali replied to Kage's topic in Character Workshop
C'kayah doesn't like Roegadyn, males or female. The irony of his employment by a Sea Wolf gang is not lost on him. He's fairly biased against Moonkeepers at this point, too, with very few exceptions (Hi Suri! Hi Liana!). When he was younger he listened to the stories his maternal grandmother (a Moonkeeper) would tell him and thought favorably of them. Now, after long association, he thinks that most are crazier than a bag of cats and understands fully why grandma left her clan to join grandpa's tribe. He could take or leave Lalafell, too. He does like a few Duskwights, though he hasn't met many Wildwood Elezen he likes. He can count the Hyur he cares for on the fingers of one hand. Even after an unfortunate accident. Traditional Seekers aren't the greatest in his mind, either. I guess you'd say he likes the people he likes, and doesn't really care for the rest of them. -
He took a moment to steady himself on his feet. The pain in his leg had faded to a dull ache, and some degree of his strength had returned - the Moonkeeper had some skill in healing, that was clear. He was aware, though, of softly burning lines radiating from the wound. The poison was still there, lending urgency to the moment. He took a step, following the girl as she made her way through the underbrush. She was traveling slowly for him, and he smiled in appreciation. He moved slowly in the dim parts of the forest on the best of days. "I travel the Shroud fairly often", he answered, taking careful steps, testing the ground and feeling for obstructions as he went. "It's a big place, though, and I haven't ever been this way. I used to live here, off to the north and east." She is right when it comes to many things, whether we like it or not. He chuckled at her words, smiling at the violet shine of her eyes as she looked back at him. "You're friend sounds... very knowledgeable", he said charitably. "I'm looking forward to meeting her."

Would you take an anime-esque character seriously?
C'kayah Polaali replied to Lyriell's topic in RP Discussion
I took a long time to answer this thread because the issue for me is a bit complicated. Personally, I tend to fall into the "Good RP masks a variety of sins - if it's entertaining, I'll overlook quite a bit" camp. At the same time, I definitely come from the tabletop RP population, and tend to make my characters from scratch even from game to game (I've never really gotten the "X is my character, I play them in every game that I play" thing). Speaking personally, while I'm typically happy to RP with anyone and everyone, I'd be a little hesitant to do any sort of deep RP with a character like this. Not because they're a magical girl or anime-inspired or anything like that. Instead, it's simply because they're a FF version of an existing character out of someone else's canon. Canon character RP is fantastic (one of my daughters does it, and she really finds it rewarding), but it is different from deep character RP because there are very hard limits to how a character can change that you reach very quickly. For me, the whole point of deep character RP is that your character changes because of their interactions with others. A canon character can't really do that because they'd no longer be a canon character. That said, there are quite a few people in this thread that have given you warnings that you won't get as much RP if you do X or Y. I'd say screw 'em. Play the character the way you want. If you're a good RPer, you'll find people to RP with, regardless. And if you decide it's not working out for you, then you can do a name-change and play a different character concept. -
Same here. I tend to ignore fantasia ICly, but I've seen it done well and with a good story a few times (Kage and Lili).

Gridania/Twelveswood RP Revitalization
C'kayah Polaali replied to Knight Kat's topic in RP Discussion
C'kayah has a lot of connections in the Shroud. ICly, he lived mainly there from about age 19 (his maternal grandmother is a Polaali, which gave him an "in" to live there during the dangerous pre-Calamity years) until about a year ago. He maintains connections with various Duskwight and Moonkeeper clans there for his business, and often returns. -
I don't think that's what anyone's saying, Warren. What's frustrating isn't that those of us without FC (or personal) homes don't have them because we didn't work hard enough. What's frustrating is that we don't have them despite having done all the prerequisites. It is exactly as if we'd just completed a very long quest and at the end it says "Sorry, no quest rewards are left."
-
While that sounds very reasonable, the reality isn't that those of us who couldn't get FC or personal houses in this patch merely have to wait a little bit. Some of us have been waiting with gil in hand for quite a while for a FC house, and are now faced with waiting quite a while longer. Grinding out the stuff needed to get it isn't the issue. The fact that once we grind this out we still can't participate is.

He gripped her hand, tugging on her as he heaved himself waveringly to his feet. She was slight, but with the deceptive strength that some Moonkeepers had. "Thank you", he said, steadying himself. She watched him, grinning oddly. On a better day he'd have been suspicious, but he could tell that he wouldn't have made it any further without her help. He'd come this far, he may as well go the rest of the way. He tested his leg, putting a little weight on it. It didn't buckle, he'd be able to go on. "Let's go talk to your friend", he said, smiling at her. "Lead the way."

Would you be interested in borrowing a small house?
C'kayah Polaali replied to Titor's topic in RP Discussion
Tylwyth Narah would definitely be interested. We'd be fine with ICly saying we're "renting a hall" or something, too. We'd want this for regular group meetings, as well as occasional meetings with secretive and shady underworld types. -
2.3 was FC-only, so you didn't have to compete with a flood of individuals buying a house.

I love your calculations, my brother and/or sister in math! Have you seen how housing is done for EverQuest II? It's pretty amazing. You buy (and pay taxes on*) a plot that gives you a basic floorplan, but you're otherwise able to decorate however you want with a flexibility that puts FF's housing to shame. Take a look at EQ2 Decorators, a website with housing decorator tips and showcases of nice setups. It's pretty amazing. The fact that this is a ten year old game only makes FF's housing problems that much more painful. *IIRC from my EQ2 days, you bought the plot (for a reasonable sum) and payed regular (reasonable) taxes on it to use it. Getting too much into arrears would lead to you losing the plot, with all your decorations going into escrow. This freed up housing owned by people who'd left the game without being a hassle for people who were simply taking a break.

It's not so much an issue with coming up with money as it is an issue with the way plots are sold. When you look at a ward, you can see the free plots. You can't buy them. You have to run to them and hope they're free by the time you get there. On the morning the servers came up for 2.38, a friend of mine hit the wards to buy a plot for her FC. She had done her homework and had a priority-sorted list of plots, and started right when the servers came up. She tried 4 plots, but each was sold by the time she'd gotten to it. By the time she missed the 4th, the smalls were gone. The larger issue, though, is simply the competition between a smaller number of FCs that want a plot and a large number of individuals that do. It was already a problem in 2.38 (which was surprising because no one knew they'd be so expensive until the night of the patch). For 2.4, *everyone* will have a month to save up for their house. I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations, and I'm predicting that a FC aiming for a small house is going to have something like a 10-20% chance of getting one in 2.4. This assumes they're there when the servers come up and know exactly what they're doing. I'm in favor of personal housing, but the way they've managed things pretty much screws any small FC out of housing now.
-
There are a number of things they could do to address this. - They could fix their crappy housing code so that it's not so much a problem -- this sounds like the path they're taking to be able to add so many new wards in 2.4 - They could use a "ward pool" that assigns new wards to servers on-demand as old wards fill up. This would let heavily populated servers have more wards, since the less populated servers frequently don't have many filled wards. They'd want to do something to make sure servers have a minimum number of wards, but this would help mitigate the problem. - They could flag some small plots as FC-only, to allow FCs the opportunity to buy houses on new wards before they're snapped up by individuals. - They could allow people to invite others into their inn rooms! A lot of people simply want to have a private space for RP, so this would allow for that.

After an unsuccessful attempt to secure a FC house, we are segueing back to our primary mission of providing the most stylish and effective villains Eorzea has ever seen at amazing discount prices!

I'm happy that SE has implemented the "Encourage me to play Kerbal Space Program" feature. In the time I would have been playing FF, I've managed to put space stations in both Kerbal and Munar orbit, as well as landing Kerbals on the Mun and Minimus.

I think the reason people responded badly to your post, Ruru, is because you're basically discounting all the work people did to be able to get a house. As others have said in this thread, the issue isn't price. It's availability. My small FC concentrated for a month on making the gil and ranking up to be able to buy a house. We have everything we need. Yet we don't have a house because all the small plots are gone. By saying that housing in this game is a little matter, you're saying that the work we did wasn't a big deal. We're a RP FC. We're not an endgame or grinding FC. Yet we played as if we were for a month. We concentrated on gameplay that we don't enjoy because we needed to get the gil and rank. And now after all that time, it's for naught. I've been using the metaphor of the atma weapon grind, and I still think it's a good one. Everyone in our FC did the equivalent of a full atma+book grind. Every single person. And now, at the end of all that, we're faced with the idea that maybe - maybe - we'll get our quest rewards in a month.
