The Pro's and Con's of each Weapon type for RP combat.
Knight Kat replied to Enzo's topic in Character Workshop
As my character's main weapon of choice is usually a pole-arm, I like to soak up what I can, and found some good videos from a guy who seems to know his stuff regarding them. Swords VS Spears. A debatable topic, and he obviously is biased, but he makes some interesting points. He talks about Winged spears. There is a type of winged spear in-game so I think this could be be good stuff to know. Finally, disadvantages to spears. How to beat them. -
"I'm... I'll be fine... thank you.." Kiht just nodded at his answer then surveyed the area more. She started to sniff the air, and her ears began moving about on her head. The overcast sky and typically thick canopy helped provide better lighting conditions for her eyes despite the fact that it was day-time. Once she noticed Andre stand, she nodded to him again. "Good, you can stand too. We need to go after your mate. There is never just -one- Ixal. They scout in groups, and I have been tracking a massive force of them. She will likely run right into them." Kiht stated in a calm tone. It was at that point that Kiht took an opportunity to examine Andre. She gazed upon him with her blue eyes. He was handsome. Blonde hair, blue eyes as well and a strong build. Kiht was impressed that he managed to put up a fight against an Ixal; considering Andre was only using a stick. However, she said nothing further. Her stern expression softened a bit as she waited for his reply.

Just wanted to add something. This a quote from this site: http://www.ffxivinfo.com/races/miqote.php "During the Age of Endless Frost, as the seas turned to ice and passage over them became possible, Eorzea saw an influx of foreign fauna to her shores. This in turn brought the hunting tribes which subsisted upon them, the modern descendants of whom are today known as the Miqo'te. Since then, the Miqo'te have diverged into two physically distinguishable groups — the diurnal Seekers of the Sun and the nocturnal Keepers of the Moon. Both groups share a superb olfactory sense and powerful leg musculature, results of a long evolution geared towards hunting and predation. Adaptation to a hunting lifestyle has fashioned them with a keen sense of smell, powerful legs, and a tail which provides them with exceptional balance. Miqo'te are known to be very territorial, and many individuals tend to lead solitary lifestyles, particularly males. The few Miqo'te who have made the transition to life in Eorzean society are predominantly female." This information can also be clearly read in character creation, in-game. I don't know about the other senses (except Keeper night-vision and Seeker day-vision), but their sense of smell being superior is mentioned -twice-. "Superb olfactory sense" is the exact wording. I do not think it would be worth mentioning if it was just a little bit better than that of the other races. On that note, I do not meta/power-game my Miqo's sense of smell. I often leave it up to the other players what my character can smell from them, or from the scene. If players do not stipulate what Kiht can smell, I just have her sense of smell strong enough to pick up and recognize an individual's unique scent. In other words, if someone Kiht is familiar with is in the area, she can smell them, but may not know their exact location unless she sees them too.

((This is for Ruru. )) ((All I have to go on are RP threads, so I hope I got at least somewhat close. )) Rurutani woke up naked next to a woman in a Mizzenmast inn room. He was disoriented, and his eyes started to dart around. He abruptly sat up in the bed, and surveyed the room. "Oh boy...." He said quietly. He got too drunk the night before, had little memory of it and was now starting to realize the situation he was in. His gaze slowly drifted to the woman next to him who was still sleeping. It was an unknown Roegadyn woman! "Oh boy!" He repeated quietly, but with a hint of panic that time. The shocked Lalafell slowly crawled out of bed. After a quick series of glances, he found his clothes on a chair. He moved quickly and quietly to dress himself. He did not know who the woman was, and did not want to know what happened. He planned to get the Hells out of there before she woke up. He loved drinks, and he loved flirting with the ladies, but he figured he must have totally went overboard the night before. Freedom was near; all he had to do was exit and... "Where ya goin' pipsqueak?" The Woman called out to him just as he had started to make his way to the door. His muscles locked up, and he came to a halt. He did not make it. He slowly turned to the Roegadyn woman who was now sitting on the side of the bed; leering at him. He knew he would have to use a lot of charm to get out of this one, but he was also fighting a nasty hangover. "Ah, hello there..." He said as he forced a friendly smile. His voice was a bit shaky. "Tha' all yer gonna say ta me?" She asked him as her brows went into an intense furrow. "You're looking rather...." He said then paused. "Speak!" The woman commanded. It just had to be Ruru's luck that this seemed to be a stereotypical Roegadyn woman. "I'm sorry, just had trouble coming up with the words. You have a... Unruly beauty to you this morning." He said in a casual tone, but in his mind, he was screaming ("Who is this woman?!") "Unruly? Yer tellin me i'ma mess, Pipsqueak?" She asked as she leaned forward a bit as if she was preparing to stand. "It suits you!" He said in an enthusiastic tone. "Wildflowers shouldn't be tamed." He continued, and let out a chuckle. "...Ye member me name?..." She responded as her expression softened, and her eyes widened in shock. ("That's her name?!") He thought to himself. "Of course! Silly woman." He said in a casual tone, and did his best to hide his own surprise. The Roegadyn woman's cheeks darkened as she lowered her head a bit. She seemed to be blushing. Ruru saw his opportunity! "Anyroad, I'm going to get us some water to help clear our heads, eh? You wait here, and don't you dare tidy-up." He said teasingly then winked at her. He confidently turned on his heels and began striding to the door. "Wait!" She called out. Ruru once again stopped, but did not turn this time. "Whas yer name?" She asked in a meeker tone. "I... Fergot it." Ruru turned his head to gaze sideways at her without turning his body. "Call me Jojo." He had to make up a random name, and hope it did not come back to bite him. Wildflower just nodded in response. Ruru continued his confident stride to the door. "Be back in a bit." He said in a sly tone. ("I'm totally getting the Hells out of here!") He thought to himself as he casually opened the door and left the room.

New pic time! Lets all have a look! I love Kiht's "bad-ass" set. And her eyes. After 10 months of playing her I still think I found the perfect blue for her eyes. Miah.....SOON! Cemi......SOON! Cemi is ready for BATTEL! R'shesha.....SOON! ...........SOON! Hunting Morbols. Hunting Ziz. The sign says "Welcome". Why are you not entering?! Kiht and Rinh'li having a heart to heart.... Is he sniffing her hair? -
("No!") A silhouette of a figure leaping to just above the Ixal's head from a position behind the beast-man would have been the sight Andre beheld if he had not closed his eyes at the last moment. Kiht Jakkya felt as if time had slowed down as she sailed onto the Ixal's back. All the momentum of her roughly 110 ponz body suddenly slammed into the Ixal; knocking him away from his position above Andre. Clasping her thighs on his torso, and wrapping her left arm around his head; she pulled back with all her strength to expose his long neck. As if part of a singular motion, her right hand brought her hunting knife around and thrust it into his neck. She grit her teeth, and let out a furious growl as she buried the blade deep into the thrashing Ixal's flesh. She then pushed the hilt like a lever to slice his neck wide open. No hesitation, and no holding back. The Ixal did not stand for long after that. He fell down on his chest with the full force caused by his literally dead weight. Kiht ruthlessly yanked the knife from the Ixal's neck, and stared down at his corpse for a long moment. She turned her gaze to Andre. She was panting heavily after having ran quite a ways over rough terrain. She regarded him as she held her knife down at her side. The blade was coated in Ixal blood. "Are you dying?" She asked in an apathetic tone. It might have been a silly question, but she figured if he could answer it, they could get right to the point of what she would have to do next. She sheathed her knife on her belt then surveyed the area in the direction Clover ran. Because of the angle in which Kiht arrived on the scene, she had not surveyed the road where the caravan was, nor did she witness the army of Ixal. To her, this looked like a pair of Hyur lovers out on a frolic in the forest who got tracked by a couple of Ixal scouts. It did not leave a good first impression on her, but she showed no indication of her feelings in that regard.

Sorry for the double-post, but I just thought of this right after posting the reference for Gharen. For Askier Mergrey. Ratchet!
-
Again, only RPed with him directly on one occasion, but I see this in his character. For Gharen Wolfsong. William Wallace from Braveheart. BTW: I watched Princess Mononoke for the first time today. GREAT MOVIE! Kiht is indeed very similar to her!
-
For Yvelont Navarre! ((TheLastCandle)) Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings series. Yep, I went there.
-
I have only RPed with Faye once, but this is the vibe I get. Princess Zelda. (Minus the getting captured by Evil-doers all the time. Unless, that does happen with her?)
-
............... Well Erik, you asked for it! Just like the character math thread, I do not think any one character that has been done before can exactly match our characters that we create. So, in my honest opinion, this is what I see in the character that is Erik Mynhier. The patriotic loyalty, faith and zeal of Captain America. The hands-on leadership that does not always play by the rules of Captain Johnathan Archer from Star Trek: Enterprise. (Yes, another captain...) And like Solid Snake, Erik uses guile and infiltration/spy skills to take on foes (like the Faces of Mercy) that he could not otherwise defeat directly.

This was a great idea, and I only regret that Rinette and Xydane were not online to be there. However, as you saw, I brought the Morbolvine Clan! This was a neat event because it showed that there -are- RPers in places other than Ul'dah. You got to meet RPers who do not even use the RPC, and/or who barely RP in Ul'dah. It was great to see some RP happening at Buscarron's which does not happen as much anymore. Something like this should be done again soon. Maybe a trip to Limsa? There are Limsa RPers who I am sure are just waiting to show their stuff.

As long as it's non-canon, I'm in. It would be my luck to totally end up with a character I know NOTHING about... But it sounds like fun.

Bad Dream Kiht Jakkya walked along the red carpet in Hunstings. Her pace was fast as she clenched and unclenched her fists. Her stride was unrelenting; she was on a mission. It was time to see Roen. She arrived at the Sultansworn prison. There was a female Paladin guarding the door. The Paladin had read hair, and was a Hyur, but her face was not familiar. She regarded Kiht with a cold gaze. "Who goes there?" She asked. It was odd to Kiht, her voice sounded like Natalie's voice. However, this woman was certainly not the Miqo'te Seeker named Natalie. "I am Kiht. I have come to see Roen." Kiht said in a nervous tone. The female Paladin leaned in, and stared Kiht right in the eyes. "You're too late princess. Roen is being prepared for execution." Kiht's eyes went wide in shock. She did not stop to consider if she should ask questions, she just turned and bolted down the Hustings corridor. The corridor seemed to go on for far longer than she remembered. Kiht ran and ran, but the corridor did not seem like it was going to end. Suddenly, she came to an exit, turned the corner without slowing and bolted out down a flight of stairs. Kiht was not sure how, but she remembered where prisoners were executed in Ul'dah. Somewhere along her travels, she must have heard about it. Kiht rushed straight to the site just outside the city. In a sandy clearing, there was a platform and three nooses set up; ready for use. A ring of Sultansworn surrounded the platform as a crowd of spectators stood just beyond the reach of the Paladins. Kiht came to a sliding stop as she got close enough to recognize three individuals up on the platform with hands tied behind their backs. The three people were very familiar to her. A Hyur man named Osric, a Seeker male named Kage and a Hyur woman named Roen. "No...." Kiht muttered in denial. She quickly paced to the ring of Sultansworn guards. Up on the platform a man in a black robe began speaking to the crowd. "Osric Melkire, charged with treason against the Sultana and facial hair, is hereby sentenced to hang by the neck until dead. Effective immediately. " The man announced. "Hells! I grew it bloody back!" Osric protested. "Kage Kiryuu, charged with treason against the Brass Blades and Lalafell kind, is hereby sentenced to hang by the neck until dead. Effective immediately." The man announced. Kage swallows hard then continues to bear a nervous expression on his face while he sweats. "Roen Deneith, charged with being extremely unlucky, and always in the wrong place at the wrong time, is hereby sentenced to hang by the neck until dead. Effective immediately." The man announced. Roen just nodded. "Any last words?" The robed man asked the three "convicts" on the platform. "Wait!" Kiht cried out in protest. "Roen is not guilty of anything! I would be surprised if she has ever willingly hurt a Marmmot! What kind of charges are those?!" Almost in reflex, Kiht tried to step past the Sultansworn guards. One of the guards stepped up and blocked her path. "Miss, I am going to have to ask you to step back." He said to Kiht as he held his shield up in front of himself. Kiht kept her gaze fixed on the three people, but took two paces back in line with the silent crowd. "Hey Kiht." A familiar male voice said to her. Kiht turned to regard the man. It was Xydane. He wore his Warrior armor and held his large axe with one arm; leaning it on his shoulder. "Xydane?!" Kiht asked in surprise. "Yeah, I'm going to rescue these three. " He replied in a casual manner. "....I do not think you should say that in front of the Sultansworn guards." Kiht warned him; her eyes still wide in surprise to see him there. "Nah, I can take em." He said in a casual tone. "However, I'm first going to get some popcorn." He said as he began to walk off. "But, but, but.... They are going to execute them now!" Kiht replied. "Don't worry, I am going to eat some popcorn then rescue them right in the nick of time. Just watch." He said in a confident tone. Kiht huffed then turned back to the platform. The robed man repeated his question "Last words?" "Can someone scratch my nose? It itches like Hells." Osric stated. "I do this so that I can look at my face in the mirror without shame." Kage stated. "I still trust the Sultansworn." Roen stated. Another man stepped up onto the platform, and began to put the nooses on each person's neck. "Please!" Kiht shouted. "What is wrong with the Ul'dahn justice system?!" "Miss, I am going to have to ask you again to step back." The guard commanded to Kiht. Kiht surveyed her surroundings and took note that she had not moved any closer. "I am no closer than the rest of the crowd!" She replied as anger started to build in her tone. Her tail started lashing as the fur on it stood on end. "No, I mean step back to the Shroud, Miss. You don't belong here." The guard stated. "You heard him, Kiht." A male voice purred. "Time to go home." Kiht looked to regard the new voice. It was C'kayah. He stood with a glass of wine in his hand, and a smirk on his face. "C'kayah! There must be something you can do." "Why would I do anything, Kiht?" C'kayah purred. "Executions are fun." He said in an enthusiastic tone. Kiht began to look around in panic. "Wait!" She said as tears began to well in her eyes. "At least let me say goodbye." Her voice cracked. "Step back to the Shroud, Miss." The guard repeated. The robed man on the platform began to recite a prayer to the Twelve. He recited short lines about each of the twelve Gods in reverse order. When he got to the verse about Menphina, time nearly froze. Suddenly the crowd was gone. Day became night, and only one Sultansworn remained between Kiht and the platform. "After this sun, Menphina, grant us the courage to love again. After this sun, Halone, grant us the wisdom to know what to fight for." The Robed man said in a slow-motion voice. Kiht's sadness was replaced by determination. She solidified her stance; ready for battle. She reached for her lance on her back, but it was not there. Odd. She did not even have a bow and arrows. She reached down to her belt. Her hunting knife, it was still with her. She pulled it from its sheath, and took her family-taught knife-fighting stance. Her ears pined back as an expression of feral anger grew on her face. She could not take down a Paladin with her knife, but she was not even going to think about that. A strong breeze blew as time went back into normal speed. The Paladin in front of her was suddenly a female Hyur with red hair, and an unfamiliar face. She waited with her shield up and her sword out in a battle-ready stance, but her expression was neutral as she watched Kiht. "They are not all the same, Kiht." Roen said right as the robed man made his way to the lever that would open the trapdoors under the three 'convicts'. Kiht charged and leaped into the air; ready to bring everything she had down on the Paladin. However, time froze again. The Paladin had not moved at all, and Kiht was trapped in mid-air while holding her knife over her head. "Kiht?" A calm male voice asked. Kiht was not able to move her body no matter how hard she tried, but her eyes were still mobile. She moved them to regard a figure that was suddenly standing next to the Paladin. It was a Duskwight Elezen. Not just any Duskwight; it was Enju. He calmly regarded Kiht while she was frozen in mid-air. He slowly shook his head. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kiht gasped as she sat up in her bed. It was a bad dream. She surveyed her surroundings. After a few moments, she realized that the only part of the dream that was real was Enju's voice. Her linkpearl was still in her ear, and she felt the light buzz from the active aether within it. Enju's voice over the linkpearl had awoken her from her dream. Moments later, after a short conversation with the Enju, she made her way outside to the yard of the Morbolvine Clan estate to get much-needed fresh air. It was afternoon; a bit early for her to be awake, but there was no way she could go back to sleep. Kiht let her gaze drift to the Moogle mailbox. The latch was up, the Clan had new mail. She made her way to the mailbox with a groggy stride. A letter from a contact. She opened it, and inside was a folded-up flier. Kiht slowly read it. It was from Ul'dah. All people who had been forced to aid Jin'li; or otherwise, forced to wear the collar were now pardoned from criminal charges. Kiht's eyes grew wide, and she had to read the flier a second time to confirm. She folded the flier back up, and slipped it in her shirt. A few suns earlier, she was told by Cy'xanne that a Sultansworn named Crofte was looking for her. It was time for Kiht to find this Crofte. She had seen the woman from a distance before, but never met her. However, Kiht would try this Roen's way. She would go unarmed. It was time to take that risk for her friend. ((Note: the only character I own in this post is Kiht Jakkya. All other characters are simply dream representations of characters Kiht knows. Their personalities and character viewpoints in this post may not be accurate as they are skewed by interpretation in Kiht's dreaming mind.))

Kinda with Ember on this. I don't like knowing the outcome beforehand. For me, that saps the fun right out of it. There is hardly any surprises in a predetermined outcome. I can see that being best for some situations, but not all. Freeform has its own problems. I do not mind loosing like 60% of the time because I like playing "underdog" characters. But she is not a total push-over. This means I can't totally trust myself to be unbiased. If I am doing RP combat with someone I know, I might just loose because I do not want any hard feelings. However, IMHO, this is not how it should be. That leads me to dice systems. This is what I prefer in most cases. Yes, RNG can be a rip-off sometimes, but if I loose I can often come up with an IC reason that makes sense. If my character is frankly up against an opponent that should not be able to beat her, for example, a chef with no combat experience, she would not put in a real effort to hurt them as she would see them as a minimal threat. In other words, I would RP out a conflict with them, but Kiht would spend most of her time just avoiding their attacks. If they persist, I would just end it in a tie by having Kiht withdrawal (they can consider that a win for all I care). If someone is playing a character not trained in combat, I do not think they should expect to win many fights. If someone is playing a combat character, dice is my go-to. The resolution from the dice would -not- upset me in any way. Even if it is not in my favor.

What she said! I can be there too.

.............. ................................................ Uh oh. From left to Right: Captain Odd'kiteus, Knight Kat, Mr. Fabulous. Aw yeah! "Come with us if you want to live." -
THIS^^^^ I know it is in the lore, so I go with it when people use it, but i hate ICly using it. I have only done so in situations where the story pretty much required it. Other than that, Kiht is not a magic-user. She can control Aether flow in her body for enhanced physical combat, but if teleport has to be a spell, it is the only one she knows, and does not know how to do it very well. Most of the time she uses airship, boat or caravan for travel. I know airship presents its own lore problems, but its one of those things I somewhat ignore. I need a means of long-distance travel, and would rather find an IC way around airship passes than find an IC way around being able to spam teleports all day. IMO airships do not cheapen the experience like teleport does.

Adders 4 lyfe! I am indeed. I was invited to a LS yesterday called "Mad Adders". The LS is dedicated to Twin Adders for Frontlines on Balmung it seems. If you want to join, Clover, I can ask them to invite you, and anyone else interested. Unless, you and K'nahli already joined an EU one? If we ever end up in a Frontline Party together, I would watch your back..... And likely die with you.
-
Quoted for truth. Also, I hate it when a whole party focuses on me (WHM) and no one from my party does anything to help me ;_; I wonder if there's simply nothing others can do, I actually don't know. I -try- to defend healers, but Dragoons are not the best equipped for that. I find I am more effective creating pressure on enemy casters/healers. But if I see a melee going after one of our healers, I stun and slow them. I do defend outposts, but if a sizable group does not stay with me, it is often just me and one healer standing there; waiting to see a party of foes come gank us.
