A bardic college is a terrific idea

Lilithium, Cy'xanne, and Aya at the Quick Sand! Aya's friends should order more drinks *sage nod* it was a slow nearly tip-less night!

1) Turn around and run away as quickly as possible! Kobolds have little legs! 2) Turn around and run away as quickly as possible! Hopefully she will not stray far from her chick! 3) Turn around and run away as quickly as possible! Treants are notoriously slow to rouse, maybe you can get away before it calls for friends!

Astroscope She was walking with a quick step along the sun-burned stone streets. Boot heels struck stone with the repeated hollow tone that seemed to announce her wherever she went, but today the hurry was nothing more than an attempt to keep her job. The offer had been worth being late for, hadn't it? Raka, the Lalafel fellow ahead of her had been similarly struck: how often is one given the opportunity to see an Astroscope, let alone to peer through the lenses at the heavens above? An Astroscope! She had not anticipated just how the sight of such a device, wondrous and devilish in the same instant, would effect her. How long had the predictions made with the aid of the instrument, combined with the lusty tones of Halone's clerics, determined the fate of her, and everyone she had grown up knowing? They had sealed the gates, and turned men and women into paupers all in the divine goal of securing the city as a fortress against the Dravinian Horde. Of course, those most effected by the decisions wrought by the Astroscopes would never share the luxury of peering through the eyepiece and tracking the movement of the heavenly bodies that determined their fate. Such liberties were the sole province of those who lived in the towers above. There was little doubt that this Ul'dahn Astroscope was of Ishgardian origin, the lenses at least must have been cut by House craftsman. What price had it fetched in export? What luxuries had it been exchanged for? Just how much food would it have purchased for people who have by now forgotten the taste of fresh meat? She had convinced herself that it had all been left behind her; that she had moved beyond it; that she would never end up like her parents clinging to the past, rather than seizing the future. She clenched her fists, gesturing in the air with an impossible frustration. She let out a breath, eyes glancing skyward once more just before she passed into one of the many tunnels that cut across the Jewel of the Desert. The stars winked, and twinkled to her from their lofty places high above the sodden earth below. "So beautiful..." It was beautiful. So beautiful. She loved star-filled nights beneath an otherwise dark sky, and to trace their movement and imagine the meaning of their unknowable light. Each mile placed between her and the shuttered city was a liberation, a promise of the freedom to simply enjoy the beauty that had once seemed so sinister. Only in the Jewel of the Desert could an Ishgardian gutter-snipe peer through an Astroscope. Only in this land of gold, spice, and sand could a barmaid be given the opportunity to peruse the stars above, as if she were a princeling. She smiled. It was delightful.

I haven't been checking this thread lately, and I just have to say its full of so many nice screen shots!

Mmmmhmm! I really try to be non-confrontational about it, but I will generally just ignore RP that involves Fantasia potions in any way. As I mentioned in my first post in this thread I just find it utterly immersion breaking, and that it detracts from both my interest in and enjoyment of RP. While that's not intended as an indictment of people who use it in their RP (everyone is entitled to their own idea of enjoyable RP!) that is just how it is for me. I also make exceptions for people who want a permanent change to their character, though I prefer a better explanation of that than "I drank a potion." In terms of whether Fantasia Potions really exist in-character, I simply do not accept them as canon. They're a necessary device for the provision of a clearly OOC service, and I do not feel obligated to recognize their existence IC solely because they have flavor text. I understand that some people object to that, but unfortunately we'll just have to agree to disagree :-]

Aya tilted her head a bit, pushing her lips a little to the side, looking thoughtful as she glanced away. "Hmmmmmmm... no shopping... so.. what would you like to see? The sights maybe? There's a big desert out there, if you haven't seen one of those before!" There was no judgement in her voice, though perhaps a moment of confusion.

I didn't mention Aya's obvious Ishgardian accent around Ryoko, I really didn't make the connection to your forum posts, sorry It was great to be introduced, thank you Tenha'a! (the other three names, by the way, at least while I was there: Kiht, Kaiya, and Li!)

Tiergan's Thread of Shameless Self-Promotion [No Commissions. Apologies.]
Aya replied to Tiergan's topic in Artisan House
I've almost run out of positive adjectives.. so... thing.. is.. thing! -
Rumors happen! Either when I come up with one I really like for someone, or someone adds one to my page Its one of those events that I just feel like builds RP connections and spreads the wealth about character knowledge. I also love reading the rumors of characters I've just met, but that's not a "love it when" kind of thing

Good thing Tiergan doesn't need it :-]

Aya's blue eyes glanced momentarily toward the armored Roegadyn. What an exciting trip it had become! She turned her look back to the Miqo'te, eyes bright as she smiled. "You should stay at the Quick Sand! I'll have to finish our little walk there, anyway, since I have to work tonight! Besides, you won't find anywhere else as pleasant and affordable to stay in the entire city!" She nodded, grinning still. "We'll be getting in a little late for the bazaar, but are there any sorts of shops you would like to see? Is this your first time in Ul'dah?"
-
Aya grins at the reference to her obvious! capability, "Do you know where you're staying while in town?" she asks excitedly.

Celebration of The Traders [Open to Pilgrims! OOC comments Welcome!]
Aya replied to Jancis's topic in Town Square (IC)
The amount of forethought and effort that this took, Jancis, is so impressive! Its kind of weird seeing things I said in-game being recorded on the forum -

Welcome back Steel :-]

I always thought that the lock was dynamic, and I remember during the time after release when they changed it so that /afk people were being kicked from the server (a feature that seems to have been turned off since then), but maybe that was just to open up queues? I certainly remember the server opening up for character creation at times that did not seem set in the past.

Tiergan.. :-X

That sounds like a good place to start! Now you have to be not-quiet enough to actually get out and RP some

Aya shielded her eyes with her hand, smiling mischievously as she started down the street, trying to move away from the tea shop and the men the pair had just escaped. "I would say Tarot's shop, but they might follow us!" she grinned, glancing furtively back toward the tea shop. "We could go look at jewelry!"

You could, but its generally a bad idea to associate your character with any story character. If you were playing a Star War's game, you wouldn't get very far claiming to be Luke and Leia's unknown TRIPLET sibling! And the same sort of thing applies in any MMO RP. There are quite a few Garlean RPers about, but that presents its own challenges and problems. As a beginning RPer I would stick to a much simpler concept. Pick a city-state to be from, and go from there~~ As for my RP, I spend a lot of time in the Quick Sand, but not as much as I used to. For one, I don't play the game all the time, second I do want to play the game itself a little bit when I do, and lastly I do get out of Ul'dah to do other things! You can assume that every character does things when their players are not playing them. They live every-day lives, just like real people do! There was a time when I spent 3-4 nights a week RPing in the Quick Sand, now its only 1-2, but I still treat it as Aya's day job
