  1. I must be the only person that doesn't want to romance her...
  2. All the characters are so well written... I created a lady elf first, and was THIIIIIIS close to re-rolling as a Dwarf, since I'd only played humans and elves in Origins before, and DA2 obviously is human-only for the Main character... But then I heard Solas speak, and had to suppress squeals. I don't even LIKE bald men, but DAMN. That little adorable HINT of an accent, the smoothness of his speech, the wonderful, idealistic young guy tempered by an adult's trials... I actually had to fan myself for a moment the last time we talked. <3 EDIT: Dorian is amazing, I'll eventually get around to making a dude person to romance him, but first I need to counter this goody-two-shoes I AM AN HERO elf girl with my gives-no-fucks Qunari mage, who will get in ALL the pants. All of them. Every last one. Even Dorian's, if only to rifle through his pockets.
  3. AIEE! Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark! Man, those are frightening, especially with those Stephen Gammell ink drawings. That's almost safe and homey compared to some of that stuff I read last night...just saying, check your walls.
  4. And now read some more stuff from that site. Lemme tell you. If you're at all faint of heart, just don't click any of the other links there, mmkay? Because they are even more horrifying.
  5. Read everything in the original link. Dunno if I'll ever sleep again, and I LIKE scary stuff! O_o
  6. Excellent. I'm sure I'll hate someone's name after awhile.
  7. rlSOPxZ3G9s Not just Jack, but a great theme for love that hurts even as it heals. Lyrics: http://otomelody.blogspot.com/2013/11/yozakura-quartet-hana-no-uta-ending.html 8TgQEC7WJCw A much more hopeful tune, from a great anime. Jack's had people hurt him in the past, but he always tries to rise above it and find a new light to chase. Lyrics
  8. Trying for a week Alas! Endless restriction Frustration boundless A voice cries softly: Emergency Maintenance! "F***ing finally." I love having creative outlets for my feelings!
  9. Do theatre in real life AND in game? SURE, why not! I can totally use more lines to memorize. Or will...once I'm finally on Balmung. >.> And not spending every waking moment leveling.
  10. How long is Too Long, I wonder? Does it need to be perfect, or is a good gut feeling about it good enough to let it grow on you? I started overthinking this while I was overthinking my name ideas, so that's probably a sign, but what the hey, insomnia forum posting is fun.
  11. Anyone else do it? I find it's a trap I often sink into in computer RPGs, where I can't just erase the name and write in a new one like in tabletop games. Typically I end up right back where I started anyway!
  12. No such luck. I'm thinking I really will end up transferring over, I'm not about to destroy my circadian rhythm just to create a character on one server, heh. Though I might give it another day or two just to be sure. One would hope things are dropping off a little a week post-patch, but time will tell.
  13. I'm not actually IN the game yet (again), but I'm on Skype quite often as of right now. ce.young87, should show up with the same name I have here.
  14. Man, I was trying at that ungodly hour too and it was never open for me. Hmm. Oh well. @Inessa: While it's a nice thought, that's a chunk of cash I'd really rather not spend if I don't absolutely have to. Waiting until yet another patch shows up makes re-subbing kinda pointless as well, given how long it takes for those to show up. I'm a victim of my own bad timing, not knowing that the patch dropped the very DAY I re-subbed, but still.
  15. Argh. I feel the problems getting into Balmung. I lost track of how many times I've attempted to find an unlocked minute to do it over the past 24 hours. IDK, maybe there'll be a window tonight when people start leaving for Maintenance.
  16. bnM4ZD87wEY This, over and over. Beautiful. Christopher Tin does crazy good music.
  17. Fair enough. I'd say Ul'dah seems like the most...equal, in that regard. It's Ul'dah, after all. Limsa to me seems like the least likely to have a large number of male courtesans, if only because such things might not be necessary given the historical proclivities of some pirate crews... Gridania...I don't even know.
  18. I'm of the opinion that in a society like Eorzea's, where almost everything is egalitarian to a degree that's unheard of in our own world, that there would be far less social stigma in seeking out a male courtesan, all things being mostly equal.
  19. Most anyone here probably doesn't even remember me, I didn't make much of an impact at all, but life has finally allowed me to come back to FF14. Anyone that actually recalls my strangely named characters gets an internet cookie. Assuming I can skirt that Balmung character restriction at Ungodly o' Clock, Sable Jack will be skirting import/export restrictions and generally being up to no good as he pursues coin, women, and adventure in the seedy places of Eorzea.
  20. Yeah it's been kinda wonky. I'll have to develop some more fortitude quickly and stay awake until it opens again, waking quickly is a lost skill for me.
  21. A question I ponder, given Eorzea's apparent acceptance for the whole spectrum of sexualities and general equality of the sexes, is whether these groups of courtesans would be applicable to men as well as women. Presumably not quite the same way and to a differing degree in some (many? most? all?) cases, given there are some differences in how people go about this between the sexes culturally and just...in general, I guess. Ul'Dah in particular seems like they'd be happy with whomever doing the job, as long as it turned a profit.
  22. Maybe if Eorzea's city-states function as post-scarcity societies somehow. People have to be fairly well assured of their survival somehow for higher-order thinking to be something they give any real thought to. Most medieval societies had very few folk that could belong to such a category, and it can be seen in the kinds of works produced in these eras. If Eorzea really is supposed to be some sort of pseudo-medieval thing (which I doubt), then it would be culturally appropriate for an amount of reliance on 'natural' roles to be present and enforced. That this doesn't seem to be the case in most of the game's societies tells me that this is less a real medieval society and more one that uses the trappings of medieval and fantasy stories but is really a fairly modern society overall. My guess why? Magic probably makes up a fair amount of the technology gap in crucial places.
  23. nOr0na6mKJQ OMNOMNOM all the Morricone.
  24. Sadface, real life problems made me miss the tavern night, but I'll be sure to get the next one!
