Age 12 Melodia braced herself for the blow and as it struck the wooden blade in her hands, she felt the shockwave rip through her hands and arms. Taurin leaned down over her while her foot dug into the dirt and grass the best it could. She was sweating, panting, as she tried to get some leverage over the older man. He gritted his teeth looking at her and shook his head. "You're completely off balance Melodia..." She growled back, her lips pulled into a sneer, "Yer jus' an old man...I...I c'n come back..." He chuffed and in a quick motion, his right leg swept and took hers out. She fell backward and let out a surprised cry before slamming her fist into the ground. "Not lying on your back, you won't. That position...it's for whores and invalids. Which are you?" He said with a calm tone and demeanor, extending his hand down for her. She took it and as he pulled her up she scowled. "Ain't neither o' them." Throwing the wooden blade to the ground she walked a few steps away and sighed tiredly. Her hair had been cut short and she had been growing taller by the moon. Walking to stand beside her, he took in the same view she had. "You're a skilled young lady, Melodia...but you let stupid ideas cloud it. Self doubt. Worry. You allow pain to fester and burn you rather than using it as a means to become better." She looked downward and then back to Taurin with a frown. "Ye keep sayin' I'm good an' all...fact is...I'm shite." Taurin scowled and shook his head. "Language Melodia. And that's the Captain speaking....not you. I do think you have potential...you just need to calm yourself....and that voice in your mind that cripples you every time." He smiled softly at the girl. "Or else you'll simply be a girl on your back. And I expect more out of you than that."

These events all take place during Melodia's youth Age 9 The little desk was cramped, and after hours of sitting in it, the wooden seat began to make her backside sore. She looked at the text and growled, her blue hair pulled up into a bun on her head so she could see. Taurin had said time was wasted when fighting with long hair that needed to be reminded to stay out of the way, but what did he know? She just knew he was old. And grouchy. Another sigh from Melodia and the chair across the room creaked as Taurin stood and approached, his footsteps light on the wooden floor of the ship hull. "I'm still waiting, child. Read the text for me." "This's stupid...readin'. An' I hate it." She pushed the paper front of her away, up the desk surface and folded her thin arms defiantly, scowling, but refusing to look up at the older Miqo'te. He maintained his stern look and stopped at the desk, his index finger stabbing the paper and sliding it back down to her. "Read the text for me." Tomas, the boy who was assigned to work with Taurin, gulped as he sat nearby and looked over at the girl with a look that screamed, 'Just do what he asks.' Taurin had caught the look and shook his head at the boy, a silent look acknowledging the intent to help. This would be Melodia's battle, not Tomas'. She looked up a scowled at the man as he stared down at her and he said in a voice that was more kind than she expected, "Do you know can't read, child?" Melodia shook her head. "No...don' care." Tauring knelt and looked her in the eye as he spoke. "The powerless. The ones lost into history. The cruel ones as well. Men like Ramsay.." She shuddered at the name...the Elezen had always terrified her. "He can't read." He slid the paper closer. "And I know you aren't powerless, child. And I know you aren't like him. You're better than that." His finger lifted off the paper and he smiled. "Now read the text...and prove it to yourself that you're better." Melodia let out a small whimper as she felt tears in her eyes. "But readin' 's hard..." Taurin nodded. "That it is...but anything truly rewarding will be hard. It's your outlook and response to those challenges that determine what kind of a person you can be." He stood and moved back to his chair in front of the room. "Now...read the text."

In need of some new connections and linkshells

*raises hand* -
Thank you for the ideas and for those asking to rp with me...I tend to be on in the evenings (east coast time) if anyone would like to poke me and we could get in touch that way. Again...thank you everyone *hugs*

What type? I honestly don't know the types...it's like someone who's hungry but doesn't know options for food...just take whatever I am able. As for what I mean...I mean I have tried and have had blips...tiny conversations where the other person walked away for others, some where I was downright not responded to, gotten the "I'm busy, sorry..." only to then see the person minutes later openly engage with others, others promising to meet and rp only to never get back to me...it's hard. I just want Mel to be more than just some invisible woman but that's how it feels. I find groups impossible to crack since they feel so closed off to outsiders anymore. I often feel like everyone's in a warm home enjoying a dinner together and I'm that homeless person on the sidewalk, peeking into the window, unsure how to get inside.
-
Well....I'm at a loss. I have tried walk-ups, events, even tried to work part time with a FC ICly so I can generate rp, but it's just not happening, despite me throwing myself out there. I'm....not sure what to do. Getting very close to just phasing out rp as a whole as it just seems to be a wall I can't seem to crack.

Five Reasons Your Character Would Approach a Stranger (And Other Prompts)
Melodia replied to Verad's topic in RP Discussion
1. Sees stranger.... 2. Clams up and runs. -
I'm sad there aren't the trees or housing items for sale

Eleni! *Glomps* I missed you!!!

I enjoy the Diadem but I agree, it's not utilized the way it needs to be. If they had a gathering queue versus a battle queue it'd be a better fit maybe? Just a tweak or so and it'd be much better. And I laughed in the hard mode as when me and my three FC mates went, it was a lonnnnnnnely place. I think Void Ark is okay, and the story was great but short. Luckily I am so far behind on crafting and other jobs as I pace myself slowly so I will have plenty to do in the coming time between patches EDIT: Hell I still have yet to clear Ramuh EX, so....yeah.

Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Melodia replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Kellach is a really nice person and I've had nothing but good from the times we've chatted briefly in game -
"Aye....no need to muddle this with any more red tape...or yellow." She gave a chuckle, her face still stern though as she watched the back. With the blade in hand, knowing the front was locked she backed up a step. "Can step out...I know there's blood and ye've told me why it's there. Besides...I need to have a face I'm talking to...not a phantom voice." She pulled the linkpearl out of her ear and set it on the counter. "See? No pearl....no Jacks....no need to be so nervous. This is a routine check..." The bead of sweat rolled down the side of her forehead as she spoke. That voice. The smell of the blood. Her grip on the blade tightened.
-
Her ears twitched again, the sound of that voice lilting into them and she clacked her teeth, the old habit dying hard as she spoke. "I think we got off on the wrong foot. You don't need to get the owner if you just talk to me. I'm here on official business...if you're an employee, then maybe you can answer what I need and I can be on my way. It's a matter of just a few moments of your time."
-
She pressed closer to the door quietly, her blade now drawn as she spoke, her voice loud enough to hear by the person in the backroom. "Aye...this is Melodia. Possible disturbance over here at the tailor shop...aye tha' one I told ye I was headed to. Owner not on site, someone in the back...send in a few f'r backup. I'd appreciate it." She stared at the door and said in a faux pleasant voice. "Aye, they're on their way now, so we can get this cleared up."
-
Her expression hardened as she set the clipboard down. "I'll call them for you...save ye the trouble." Her mind was burning as she tried to pin that voice. It sounded so familiar.
-
She listened to the words as they sailed through the air and her eyes narrowed. "Sounds like a bad day f'r the shop boy. But I still need to do my inspection. Have a full day tomorrow...so why don't we just get this take care of now. Come on out and I'll be out of your hair." Another step, the sound of the leather boot against the floor nearly deafening in the silence that hung through the shop, despite her efforts to be quiet in her movement.
-
Melodia was tense, sweat beading on her brow as she heard the door creak. The scrubbing had ceased and the quiet enveloped the shop as the sun set, draping everything in orange and black as the shadows settled. She took a cautious step toward the door and left her fingertips dancing on the hilt of her blade while she spoke in reply. Her head tilted slightly toward the door, ears twitching now. "I'm no' here for a sale...finishing up my inspection rounds." The blood scent was tearing through her sense now and she was widening her stance defensively without realizing she was doing it. That voice... "You can come out. Just need to check some figures and I'll be out o' your hair." Every word was laced with nerves and her eyes were locked to that backroom door.
-
Clad in her black tunic and spectacles, Melodia stepped into the shop, her boots clomping against the wooden floor. The tailor shop had been on the inspection list for some time and the prior inspector had done little to enforce compliance. Since she'd taken the position suns before, her connections with the Yellowjackets still paying off, she had made a promise to get caught up. To ensure this list wasn't quite so long, so embarrassingly long and overdue. She had entered the shop and saw no one around. "Hello?" She called out as her eyes wandered over the wares for sale. The smell hit her nose and she found her mouth slightly turn into a frown. It was blood. A smell she'd grown up around and had her own fair share of cleaning over the years. She'd spilled her own in her life and as the iron touched her nostrils her ears twitched. The next words came with a hint of caution as she locked the door behind her, one hand moving to the blade strapped her waist. "Hello? Someone in here?" She made a cautious move toward the back and the sound came to her...scrubbing. She kept her hand on the hilt of her blade and she called louder. "You in the back....come out...now." She hoped for a misunderstanding and remained cautious as she blocked the exit. While she hoped, she was not optimistic as the amount of blood she could smell was far more than a mere pinprick.

So, I have been struggling to get Melodia in a direction and I have always kept her rooted to Limsa in some capacity whether it was a resident, or a Yellowjacket. What I was wondering was, what would be the plausibility of maybe playing her as some sort of city inspector, be it a docks and cargo inspector, or a business inspector? I work in government irl so it's not a far fetched thing for me to rp the job, but I wondered lore-wise, how realistic that kind of job would be to play. Any thoughts would be welcome.
