*Picks Chachan up and hugs* Yay!

Mel looked around the Drowning Wench and grunted as he nodded at Baderon. "Another ale, mate." His red hair had been cropped short earlier that day and he sported the sunglasses he enjoyed wearing despite the hour. His clothing was flashy and he enjoyed the attention. He'd often been on the prowl and the ladies walking through at that moment had caught his attention. "I'll be back, friend....keep the drink cool f'r me." Sliding off of the barstool, Mel walked with an air of confidence and as he got close enough he coughed softly, and with a grin, "Well, ladies, you picked the perfect night to pass through here alone....let me buy you a drink."

The journey across the bridge had been what Melodia had expected. Cold. Windy. And it felt longer than she'd expected. Aurrant had been chatty as usual thus far on the trip and she'd at one point scowled and told him to be quiet for a bit to let her think, though in reality she'd simply needed to think about the cold. As they entered the city proper she looked around and pulled down her face cover enough to mouth the word, "Wow." Melodia gazed for a moment at Aurrant and she said, "Hold on a second....let me have a moment. This is a new place for me. I'd like a moment to take it all in, you know?" Of all of the therapy sessions she'd done, her room seemed like a gutter to what she was seeing. She imagined the people who'd sent this young man and imagined wealth, especially considering the coin they'd offered. The hustle and bustle of the city took her a bit by surprise and she looked at her guide with curiosity. "Aren't they cold?" Aurrant looked at Melodia with a smirk and he shook his head. "They may be....but they're also used to it Madame. She held up a hand and shook her head. "No more 'Madame' please...just call me Mel." His glance around as if he'd be caught by someone for daring to so nearly made her laugh even as she shivered. "Y-Yes...Mel." He turned and pointed across the north side way. "We're headed there. Not long now." She kept imagining some noble household like she'd heard among his many tails on the journey. "How are they? I mean....in terms of lifestyle?" She asked curiously, her old pirate mind rearing it's head, but the words that came next made her wonder. "They are....eccentric. The less polite tend to frown on them for their....desire for privacy." Aurrant chuckled nervously as her beckoned them onward and she suddenly had the thought that maybe she'd made a big mistake.

Important Annoucement: Suicide Awareness
Melodia replied to Xydane Vale's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
*Hugs* I myself struggle heavily with depressive thoughts quite often and it breaks my heart to hear about your friend. My best friend from the Army committed suicide as well....without warning. As I said I have issues of my own. Often my temper tantrums here are an extension of that. There are many days when even the amount of positives in my world don't...can't sway those down emotions. And it's easier to lash out....to hide away in the game and isolate myself. When I am angry here....or in game...people may think I am stewing....broiling in anger. But the truth is, I am sad...and feel much like a turtle retreating into its shell, though usually there are tears associated with it. When I don't answer a tell, people may think I am being snobby or rude....but the fact is, I see the tell plainly and I am terrified to answer it because I am afraid I'll be told off or rejected....my biggest issue really, the latter. And yes....there have been times I have spoken the words, "I don't want to be around anymore....just make it all go away..." I'm sorry for the sudden soapbox....I play this therapist and most of the time I am a lonely depressed person. Yes....even with a family I am. I wear a good mask at home as I don't want my son to see how sad his father is. I don't know why I wrote all of that....but I sympathize...I get it. I really do. -
I want to say thank you to Stalwart Bear of the Harbingers of Dawn FC....last night was a very hard night for me and was feeling very down and I was just emoting to Momodi in the QS trying to have Mel drink her sorrows away and he was so kind, indulging my rp and we had a very nice ic chat which lifted my spirits. Kept Mel from getting drunk and she made a new friend, I think. Was something I needed. So kudos...if he's not on the site...someone from the FC please relay my thanks.

The winds were bitter and the snow did nothing to improve the mood. Melodia stood just past the Gates of Judgment and eyed that bridge that stretched across to Ishgard and wondered how she'd even gotten to this point. Her thick coat was long and pulled tightly around her while the hood she'd pulled up guarded her ears. She'd used a thick cloth facemask to cover her nose and mouth and she looked back at her guide, a young Elezen man by the name of Aurrant. "Are you certain they can't come to me?" She asked in a muffled shout over the winds. Aurrant shook his head. "I'm afraid not milady. You'll find they are a bit...eccentric. They aren't keen on wandering south." Melodia scowled behind her coverings and she looked back across the bridge... ***************************************************************** Two Days Before.... A sharp knock on the door and Melodia stirred from a light slumber. She had no idea what hour it was, only noting the small fire in the fireplace and the half empty bottle of wine on the table. She was still dressed and again the rapping came. -KNOCK KNOCK- "Hmm....h-hold on a second." She stood and got her bearings, making sure she knew where her axe was in her room before she stumbled to the door. The tumblers opened and she saw a handsome young Elezen man standing on her doorstep. "Yes?" The man coughed a bit and smiled, obviously embarrassed by the expression on his face when he finally spoke. His voice was pleasant and he bowed. "Good evening....my name is Aurrant Mieteois...and you are Melodia D'janz? At least I hope so." She eyed him and her fogginess was clearing rapidly. She couldn't help but be on edge. "Who are you? And I don't mean your name..." She asked plainly, with just a hint of tension behind her words. A soft smile to the man's lips and he nodded. "I understand the trepidation...especially at this hour. However, I mean no harm. I am an emissary for a couple that reside in the north, in Ishgard. And they have sent me a very long way for you." Melodia looked puzzled and her eyes narrowed despite the slight hangover she felt. "You...are a therapist? They got wind of you from a flyer that managed to find its way north." He looked perplexed...concern lining his face in the silence that followed. "Aye....I am. I'm sorry for the caution but -" She began and he looked relieved, cutting her off. "Think nothing of it...I do understand." He looked down and then back at the red-headed Miqo'te with a sense of urgency in his eyes. "Well, look....have them come by in the morning...it's far too late for me to even consider meeting with them." She said politely but he shook his head. "I'm afraid....we will need to go to them. To Ishgard." Melodia looked taken aback. "I d-don't think that counts a simple house call..." She wasn't sure what to say when he held out a small but notably heavy bag of coins. ""Half up front. Half when you meet with them. Please....it's rather urgent." He looked desperate and she eyed the bag of coin. Business had been dreadfully slow and she needed the money. She let out a sigh and nodded. "You'll accompany me there I assume? And the second half when I meet with them?" She asked. He nodded. "Expect no miracles...often I need to meet with folks many times to resolves their issues. And I don't plan to relocate to Ishgard, so I won't have a lot of time." Another soft sigh and she nodded. "Tomorrow....first thing...meet me outside...and we'll depart." She'd said, getting ready to close the door and pausing. "Will I need something warm? I've only heard rumors...." Aurrant smiled and nodded as she stepped back. "Tomorrow morning then, Madame. And yes....warmer clothing is preferred." ***************************************************************** Present She took a deep breath which bit at her lungs and she gestured for Aurrant to lead the way. "After you." The man nodded acknowledgement and passed by her, after which she followed, pulling her coat tighter. Her mind thought as they moved, "This is not what I expected when I got my memories back...."

So... we can cherrypick the lore now based on whether or not we feel the mass culling of unfortunately named flying cephalopods is humorous or not? There's a metric tonze of lore that comes from item descriptions, fishing lore, and mount/minion text. I don't see anything about the Vampiric Tapestry's text that was "clearly meant to be a joke." What it shows is that Ishgardian people are as superstitious as the rest of Eorzeans and will drive a stake through a creature's heart just because of its name. Similar to how Ishgardians culled Au Ra because of their draconic appearance. If we are to discount these texts, we're also discounting the lore which gave us the name of Nanamo's father, the fact that Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn discovered the New World in 1556, and that during the War of the Magi, the Mhachi rode into battle on the backs of enchanted Manta Rays, which they called Magic Carpets. Do we discount those as well? "If it's humorous, it's not canon" also eliminates the lore bomb that Ul'dah zombified Sil'dih to end the War of the Sisters 400 years ago. And if Events aren't canon we lost a lot of lore about Paladins and the Thorne Dynasty. I mean... do I really need to go on? Sounsyy's point is valid and I agree. We can't just choose to ignore something because dislike the possible implications. I for one am not going to beg someone for lore and accept it with gratitude when it suits my purposes and then reject it next time because it doesn't. Thank you Sounsyy. Edit- Though I still think a vampire is pretty much unplayable. *nods*

Agreed. It's one snappy comeback after another despite thoughtful responses. This one's just fishing I think...

She hesitated. "Gods what am I doing....this won't work." She muttered, looking around as she held the paper in her hand. She looked at the writing on it and grimaced. It's awful...hideous....who would look at this and respond? Her mind was a rush of thoughts and she sighed, looking at her ring finger, noting that the ring line had almost completely disappeared as her tan had hidden it. "It's been moons...and you're not getting any younger." Her mentor's words coming from her own lips. Post the damn thing and move along. Her own inner voice scolded. She threw caution to wind and inhaled sharply before her hands posted the paper notice on the board at the Quicksand. She was blushing as she affixed it and moved quickly to another spot in the city to hide. The notice read, including a photo of the red-headed Miqo'te, including her glasses: Recently single female, seeking a single female for dating, friendship. Maybe more? If interested, please contact me at the information below.

*Coughs* Hi. As probably the ultimate wallflower, I can say that it's really incredibly difficult to push off that wall. Here's how I see a scene before me in the Quicksand: I walk in and see some folks at the railing. Some at the tables, and a huge group at the bar. Lots of text flying by on my chat window, which on the PS4 is just a gaggle of information. Shouts, and lots of emotes and say posts. It's already hard to keep up. Oh look! A couple of folks I recognize from the RPC site. They wouldn't want to talk to me. Probably not. I wonder why that person is alone at the table. Probably waiting for someone. Must be it. Wouldn't want to be a bother. There sure are a lot of folks at the bar...wonder what they are talking about. I'll watch for a few minutes. A couple of tells from folks and friends saying hello. Hmmm...I would love to say hi to that group...want to join..but there's so many....they won't like me. How could they? Melodia's no one to them....and what right does she have to just jump in and talk? She's no one special. I should go...yeah...I have to tend to the FC garden anyway...check on my retainers. House is safest. No one can reject me there. that's what happens in my head every single time.

Smirked as she looked at the ad. "Very nice indeed. I'm sure adventure isn't too far off." She took the ad with her, carefully rolling it up with a satisfied moan on her lips as she proceeded to go back to her room, whispering, "My kind of adventure anyway."

She would find Graeham to be a rather charming and interesting person to talk to. She might find a lot of commonalities with him and get along quite well, especially with a flirtatious nature common to both.
