  1. I do not, have not, and will never, care about creating a divide between myself and someone who cannot accept a logical and sensibly laid out argument in favor of a position they disagree with without getting angry, because that rift already exists. I don't really think telling Stephen Hawking to sit down and shut up is an appropriate parallel. Your hilariously bad example aside, thank you very much for an otherwise stellar point.
  2. Who are you striking here again? This could have stayed in the other discussion thread if you wanted to rally support for the poll, honestly. SE doesn't visit our forums (and if they do they probably aren't going searching for stuff like this). People are arguing that we should wait to see what happens. I'm arguing that we be proactive in this. I made the same post on the SE forums, and the discussion is currently proceeding there as well.
  3. http://www.change.org/petitions/squa...a-realm-reborn A petition on Change.org for this very thing. "Strike not while the iron is hot, but make the iron hot by striking." William Yeats.
  4. I'm aware of the Japanese stance on this, but seeing as this game will be available in all countries, I think the more conservative leaning United States is a good example.
  5. You're right! Thanks! And a month is recent, relatively. The game has been in production for quite a while.
  6. ((Because the SE forums only allow me 1 1,000 character post every 10min, I'm posting this here. I know there's already a thread discussing this topic, but I feel like this is deserves its own post.)) Recently it was announced that marriage would be a feature within Final Fantasy 14 ARR. The system as of now, is planned to be for opposite gendered couples only, with the possibility of same gendered marriages being implemented based on player feedback. I argue that waiting for this feedback is, statistically speaking, a complete waste of time. The numbers already exist to indicate that the players of the afore mentioned game approve of same sex marriage by a wide margin. Let's consider the following, using the United States,a traditionally conservative country, as a model. - Among millennials (people born after 1980), support forsame sex marriage is over 70% - Among people born after 1965, support for same sexmarriage is over 50% - According to the Entertainment Software Association's 2013 data, the average age of video game players is 30, with 64% of all players falling in the millennial category. These numbers alone show that a good majority of video game players (if not a substantial majority), support same sex marriage. Assuming that Final Fantasy 14 players fall within the "video game players" demographic, it's quite easy to see in advance that support among the player base would be high. Square Enix is running a business though, and I understand that. After the debacle that was the initial release of Final Fantasy 14, and all the hard work they've put in to revitalizing the game, I can understand that they don't want any niggling distractions to keep any potential players away. Fortunately, there are real world examples to show that SE shouldn't be afraid to implement same sex marriage. First, let's look at the Old Republic. Bioware has a history of offering same sex relationships in their games, and well before this one launched, they stated that the intent to continue that tradition within the Old Republic. The usual suspects came out in protest, the American Family Association, One Million Moms, ect. (people who don't play video games in any real numbers by the way), but Bioware was warmly recieved by the video game community. When the game launched, they had over 1 million subscribers within the first 3 days. The game ultimately took a tumble in the numbers, but that can in no way be attributed to the same sex marriage "controversy". Next let's look at Trion's game RIFT. In one of the game's post launch patches, they implemented a marriage system without gender restrictions. There was no controversy, there was no fallout, but they did set the record for most marriages in a video game in a single day when the patch went live. Historically, video game developers who have taken the boldstep of supporting equality have been rewarded for their bravery by the good will of their player bases. There will always be detractors, but support for the issue among gamers has been rock solid, and support grows with every new poll. As someone who first realized he was gay thanks to your video games (Kuja you naughty thing), I humbly ask that you consider my arguments in deciding on the fate of marriage equality in Eorzea.
  7. Appreciate the interest, but that's not really how it works. If you'd like to join up, come to our site and apply. We don't chase people down. We're not the Teamsters Union. Although...
  8. A single really good graphics card is less of a headache for sure, and shouldn't leave you wanting. Granted, I built my computer two years ago, so times may have changed. That said, having built it two years ago with just one graphics card, my score was 12,014. Feel free to hate me
  9. I'm sorry to announce Esperkitty, and any others this might effect, that recruitment is temporarily closed. We've had a ton of applications over the past few weeks, and to make sure that everyone feels at home, we've decided to put a cap on the roster temporarily. I'd like to thank everyone for the tremendous support our group has gotten from the RP community, and invite all you do gooders out there to come RP with us anyway. Once we've got our current members in their divisions and what not, we'll open back up again better than ever!
  10. There's always at least one of these threads for every game. Hopefully trolls will see this one and think the topic is covered, then move on.
  11. Click on the link in my signature and be whisked away by internet magic to our website. Once there, fill out an application and you'll be in like flint!
  12. A miqo'te in Ul'Dah? That's soooo one hour ago...
  13. Typically you can select party members by pressing F1-F whatever. This was the case in FFXI, so I can't see why they'd have changed it for their shiny new game.
  14. Looks A-OK to me. No lore conflicts that I can see. As long as you like the character and have fun with it, that's the most important part. Edit: Don't count out us pallies Uther. We're built like tractor tires =P
  15. You make me feel ooooooooooooooooooold! I started with Final Fantasy (note the lack of number)on the NES. >.> Anyways, welcome in! You said you perused the site for a couple hours, but just in case you missed it, this thread should be pretty relevant to your situation. ^^ I started with IX... when I got a PS2
  16. A lot of interesting concepts in this thread. The idea that the Garleans as a people are generally inept with magic suggests that it is more intuitive than formulaic and that one can't simply learn it as they would some other skill.
  17. Absolutely We aren't a closed doors kind of group.
  18. I think it's worth pointing out that only 72 people voted, and the RPC has over 1,000 members. Even if only a third of that number checks the forums from time to time, you're still going to see roughly 4-5x more Rp'ers on Balmung that Gilgamesh. I don't mean this as a disparagement against the duly elected alternate server, just an observation.
  19. Amadeus

    Nobles?

So here's a thought a little outside of the box, what about a Garlean noble? Their culture seems based on a Roman hierarchy, and the romans had nobility. There are already several instances of Garlean defections. Perhaps your character was kicked out of the family? Just a thought.
  20. These guys forum RP circles around me. I keep a late schedule because of work and generally sleep until noon-ish, and will wake up to find pages long forum RP's that weren't there the night before :frustrated:... I mean
  21. I'm unfamiliar with the term "icrpers". In character roleplayers? Do you mean heavy Rper's by that?
  22. No matter how tedious grinding is, just remember, nothing will ever be as hard as Final Fantasy XI :frustrated:
  23. Click on the link in my signature to find our website. Recruitment is still open, and we'll take anyone who's willing to strive for the ideals in our code.
  24. I heard somewhere that there are plans to include characters from other FF games. I hope Kuja makes the cut. I wouldn't mind raiding his dungeon. Edit: Ok, that came out wrong...
