Quote Vampire Lampern seafood itemJust as the name implies Vampire Lampern is indeed a sucker of blood, using its multiple rows of teeth to latch onto its prey, whether it be on land or sea, and bore a hole from which to drink. Obviously the term vampire is in fact a term that refers to the drinking of blood. If you made a deal with a voidsent for further power it is not entirely implausible for them to add a catch to drink blood as a way to destroy a person's humamity.

I might have to consider doing the quests on Naoh'ra's bestest little buday and upload the video for this.

My personal interpretation, so take it with a grain of salt. The first Dark Knight was an everyday knight that channeled his emotions to form these dark knight abilities. Though after this knight killed a priest defending some innocent soul from him, the Ishgardians did what they always do and completely demonized the art. Playing off the fact that hatred and anger are the easiest emotions to fight with only served to make portraying them as practitioners of evil arts eaiser. Over time dark knights just kinda embraced this view for one reason or another, the source of emotion becoming known as the abyss. The rest of their abilities becoming named after dark powers. Several motivations being it part of the whole ideal of serving no real country and as a method to use fear as an ally to help face an enemy that straight up out numbered them. Like I said mostly just personal interpretation of what I got out of it...but I feel a lot of the lore in this game is purposely left ambiguous to let the player interpret things so they can be part of making the story.

I'll give a disclaimer by saying I really suck at playing bad guys but here a few of my thoughts. If a person is going to play a villain they need to realize that they are going to either be defeated at some point or their character needs to evolve in some way. People are going to want to stand up against you because no one likes to have their character subject to torment. It goes both ways though since 'heroic' characters should give a villain character a few wins themselves. The other thing is making people see your character as a villain. Simply saying "my character is a powerful villain so your character must be afraid of me and can't stand up to me because of how bad and evil my character is" means squat. They need something to back themselves up. It also takes a lot of communication, because it tends to walk a fine line between antagonist and god modding. Yes a villain does need to be an obstacle to get have to get over but it also means there needs to be a way to overcome them. It becomes doubly important to show the weaknesses because in all honesty spending months trying to figure out that one thing the good guys need to do to figure out how to beat a villain is exhausting and gets dull really fast. As well as trying to control the exact circumstances of how to beat a villain. It locks other peoples ideas and characters out of rp because there's nothing their character can actually contribute because it doesn't fit in with how the player thinks their character needs to overcome, even if it's an extremely well thought out idea. Finally I don't think declaring a character is good or evil openly ooc is a good idea. The only thing is ever does is try to force others how to perceive a character. Just like real life a character should be judged by their actions. You can't say a character is a good guy and then have them go act like a jack ass to people, then still expect them to be seen as such just because their player has them tagged as a good guy. If you have to tell people that your character is one or the other to get someone to perceive them as such then chances are they aren't how the player sees them and it will only end in ooc drama trying to force people to react to their character how they think they should.

Thoughts about intersex (NSFW-ish discussion)
S'imba replied to CrimsonMars's topic in RP Discussion
I think it's a good idea so long as it isn't treated as a novelty. Don't say this is Jane she's a hermaphrodite. Well at least make it come off that way when people interact with them. Put some substance into it and try to avoid making it the front and center thing that makes the character interesting. -
In my opinion the more skills you give a character the less interesting they become...not just to others but to the player themselves. They end up with nowhere to grow, nothing to challenge themselves with or overcome. To be this swiss army knife of a character that has the right tool for the right job at every situation can only be interesting for so long. I'll admit I have an extremely skilled character I wrote as an attempt to get more people involved in RP to act as a method to drive other peoples characters to grow and get involved. Despite him serving his purpose he is still really bland to me for the exact reasons above. I never really get him involved other than giving other characters the motivation or extra tools they need to beat a challenge. In the end it comes to the point that all villains have to come to an end as well as the heroes. The faster you push yourself to that point the sooner that will occur. Otherwise the rp just gets repetitive and old. Basically I feel a character is too skilled when they no longer have any area to grow in. Though sometimes it is hard for a player to accept that a character has reached this point.

The lore and battle teams have an unfortunate history of coming into conflict in XIV -- the moving of elemental offensive magic to Thaumaturgy from Conjury is one such example that they've admitted to. I think it's safe to say that the battle team will sometimes say, "These are WHM Job skills because they'd be OP if they could be cross-classed or available to CNJ," and then the lore team says, "Welp, time to sweep that under the rug." I'm a big supporter of "if the game says you can, you should be able to do so," which is why I advocate different approaches to using Succor or, indeed, using spells that the game classifies as Succor in a way that makes them not Succor. If your character's a skilled conjuror, surely they've created some spells of their own, perhaps some to keep people in the fight with less effort (Regen)? That big explosion of light you do (Holy)? Why, that's just a lightning-aspected spell (since we know that conjurers, per lore, have access to elemental magic). On the black mage side, that's not the "Flare" of the War of the Magi, it's just a customized, augmented fire spell. To paraphrase a common (and silly, when you think about it) saying, when the lore team closes a door, they open a window. XIV really doesn't ban much of anything, and even when it bans one approach, others still exist, ready to be employed by the enterprising RPer. This is the perfect point. I personally believe that SE keeps the lore really loosely defined to keep one of the big visions behind at least the original final fantasy alive. The whole the player being in control of the story, though this could only be done to an extent since there still needs to be some sort of story for the player to follow. They want the player to have an extent of control over what goes on in the game. Though it is much harder to accomplish in a mmo setting I still think they try their best to stick with it. Give the player enough information to be able to create a character off of. Though more on topic there is a good chance of some people who would try to harass you about breaking the lore, since some people tend to take anything a character says about themselves as what their character is saying is 100% true. They get so caught up in telling people off about how they are a lore breaker they don't really take the time to think that there are other factors contributing to why they are claiming that point. If it's something your character would do, go for it. Hopefully you find a lot of gullible people to believe her. I mean S'imba is at least gullible enough to fall for most anything someone claims to be.

Yeah I always feel the same way...especially when I get ooc requests for people to want to RP with them, cause it makes me afraid I'm not going to live up to their expectations. Kinda makes me glad I'm not one of the famous people, since I can only imagine them being bombarded with constant requests.

I don't think it's the best method but in my head leve rewards kind of give some sort of base of how much gil is worth. Low level ones wouldn't do much to get you any money, since there's going to be a lot of competition for them for people trying to get into the career of adventurer. So definitely nothing that is going to get rich off of. It wouldn't be until you get to the mid level leves that you could probably even be making a living off such a career since the rewards would be higher and less adventurers that stuck with it. Then the highest level ones being those that are making a fortune as an adventurer that people hear the stories about getting rich off adventuring. Then kind of mix it with the value of items from vendors such as food and stuff, how much gil you'd need to be making in a day to make a living. Gives me some sort of sense of how much it's worth. I guess another possible thing to look at too is the gold saucer exchange could be another indicator since realistically the exchange for points would need to be set low enough that the target cliental could afford the exchange. But really just my personal head canon that works for me but doesn't necessarily work for others. So when I rp it I usually say a vague statement, like throwing a small sack of gil for less expensive items and a large amount for bigger items. That way it at least allows the other player to apply their own logic to what's a lot of gil and what's only a little bit.

[Spoilers] Dark Knights, Am I the Only One?
S'imba replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
That's kind of my thinking, it seems to go against the mission statement of a WoL to be using real darkness in really any form. My head canon on it is that the association with darkness itself was more labeled by those trying to demonize the Dark Knights. So eventually that would become so engrained in society that a lot of what a Dark Knight really is was lost. With very few people knowing the truth about it. Even among Dark Knights themselves. To me the magic of the dark knights is just like all the other classes. Simple aether, channeled through a different method of casting it. Like monks give it form through chakra, thaumaturges use bone staffs to channel it, arcanists use the enchanted ink, and ninjas use their mudras. Dark knights are the same way, shape the aether by using by using their emotions and releasing it in a so called attack of darkness. Though I guess technically darkness given form would be aether too. -
I have a keeper that refers to seeker's as hell cats. Though this comes more from the fact he spent his whole life how they live there and how they eat keeper children. A few others though. Lalafell: crotch inspectors Roe: beef stew Elezen: tree humper

Another thought that comes to mind when considering the high amount of fearless characters is the fact of the big occupation known as adventurer in eorzea. The concept of fearless individuals embarking on great quests and with Eorzea a place that makes that a legitimate occupation would naturally draw the more reckless types to these places. Countless people out to prove themselves. Not everyone would have the opportunity to do big heroic things. So in their mind they would find other ways to prove themselves as big bad asses. While a lot of people don't play adventurer characters it says that the amount of reckless people who are trying to come off as fearless is going to be much higher than in what you would expect a realistic setting to be. A lot of competition would exist between people trying to get better jobs than going out and killing a few marmots. Being publicly known as being fearless is going to increase the likelihood of getting better jobs, cause no one wants to hire an adventurer that's going to turn tail and run at the first sign of danger. It would easily get into people's heads that standing up to big scary guards would help you increase your credibility as an adventurer. Even if it is straight up stupid. Basically Eorzea has a high job demand and a lot of perks to being fearless, it's going to draw those types to it.

Well while everything is true ithat really comes down to why the character is being fearless. A lot of people get into a huff but they don't understand the entire back ground. It's like people who'say characters brag about doing big heroic feats or claiming to be -the- azure dragoon. I know people who's characters have claimed stuff like that but ooc they know what their character is claiming is false. However it doesn't stop them from getting toxic tells about how they are lore breaking. The same thing kind of applies here. There are plenty of reasons why.a character wouldn't cower under a big scary Roe. For example S'imba was recently involved in trying to stop anow innocent bandit from being hung. S'imba got caught trying to free him but managed to get into a civil discussion with the guards that he was surrounded by. Despite the fact he was about to cut a deal in getting the bandit off the bandit's partner that originally asked for S'imba's aid shows up and attacks the guards. Though he told S'imba he'd take the little guy while S'imba handles the rest before proceeding to run away with his tail between his legs after said little guy proved to be too much for the bandit. Basically despite the character attacking the guards iclly he was fearless cause he believes S'imba to be this amazing fighter, that would be able to protect him after trying to take them on. There can be a lot of good reasons why a character would have a sense of fearlessness. Basically what I'm trying to say is I feel that this could be a mentality that could turn into. "A real person would never do that unless they were an idiot, your character is bad and you're a shitty role player." You can't expect everyone to react to your character how you see your character. It only leads to ooc drama if people get upset about people not bowing down because my character is a noble and I expect your character to treat me as such. Same thing just because someone is a large intimidating figure you can't expect people to react how you want them to. Just my self righteous two cents.

I will have K'ovu secretly join just to bug Naoh'ra!

S'imba has aether abilities after being extensively experimented on. Particularly the elemental abilities that the ninja gets. (Actually kind of ironic since the whole thing started before ninja showed up.) Basically works the same where he's manipulating the outside elements. Though I like to get a little more creative and put some effort into my posts instead of just saying S'imba casts Raiton. Basically if you can find a explanation as to why your character can do something I say go for it. Aether is a force that permeates every bit of life in this world. So learning to manipulate it would be a fairly accessible subject and more than likely any combat type wanting to further themselves would try and figure out how to add aether to their abilities.

How do you handle RP when it takes a bad direction?
S'imba replied to Renata Turner's topic in RP Discussion
I'm generally pretty chill and go with the whole, "Do what your character would do." I don't want people to change their character for my sake. S'imba can be talked into some pretty bad situations due to his "I want to help everyone" nature. It's really changed S'imba from where he was a year ago. While a lot of stuff that's happened to him the last several months I never intended for his character have occurred and quite a bit of it I had some worry about when it started I rolled with it. It's ended up with him in situations that are way over his head but I'm ok with it due to the fact that's what happens in life. Then he deals with it the best he can. It's made him a lot stronger as a character and for me it keeps him from becoming stale to me. That being said if something does go bad enough to bother me I'll talk to them OOC though offer a solution that will still let both of us still have a good experience. If that doesn't work then it's just walk away. It does still have a lot of cons but it's just what makes RP an enjoyable experience for me. That's what's important RP in a way that's fun for you. -
Before the Fall Vs. You [Major spoilers]
S'imba replied to ChewableMorphine's topic in RP Discussion
S'imba was sitting at home when his scion friend came in and told everyone that he was wanted and that S'imba was a registered Scion, basically that he was in trouble. So now he's on the run for something he never actually signed onto...then he was told that he had to stay in Ul'dah in the shadows and fight back. Once again he feels he's been thrown into something way bigger than someone as insignificant as himself. He feels alone since only two other people know what's happened one hundred percent and out of those two, only one of them is really giving him any support while the other one wears him down by pointing out everything he's doing wrong. He doesn't dare tell anyone the full truth of what he knows and the stress of being on the run while still trying to fulfill his friend's wishes is really going to start taking it's toll on him. Also he'd really appreciate it if someone found out his situation and gave him a hand. -
It would take S'imba a long time to actually accept it. But he'd still do as they wanted anyways He'd probably do all the stupid fetch quests to since he's literally that suggestible. Like oh S'imba the Garleans are about to attack but I need my dry cleaning picked up. S'imba: Ok. The ending pretty much ended on the typical note for him...just missing the asshat mage that sits and tells him all the ways he screwed up and should have been able to prevent that.
-
S'imba do I look like a cat to you? Lol Please don't act like that creepy scientist character you have here too. Im not ready T_T K'ora wouldn't set Aaron up on a date...he'd give him aphrodisiacs and set him loose in the quicksand.

Hmm I was gonna suggest getting her hooked up with aaron...

"I guess gladiator would be a close enough term." S'imba said rubbing his neck. "Not greatest job in the world. But at least it's a job I guess."
-
"Ah nothing as glamorous as that. I'm just a pit fighter though one day I hope to be a great adventurer myself." S'imba said with an eager nod. "It's a much more respectable career."
-
S'imba can't help but chuckle. "I won't judge you for that. Mostly cause I got a friend who ended up killing a few sultansworn. I may have been mixed up in some similar situations as well. But it was kind of an accident I guess I run with kind of a rough crowd." S'imba rambles. "Anyways what is it you do when your not locked up in here?"
-
"S'imba." He replies with a sigh. "Not exactly sure what I did either. To be honest it could be a lot of things now that I think about it." His mind would briefly flick back to the accusations that some of the people that was associated with being involved with shadey magics. He walked over to lean against the bars looking at the other Miqo'te. "You don't look like the dangerous criminal type. What did you do to get locked up here?"
