  1. S'imba ended up involved with the rogues guild after they r helped him escape the pirates that had shanghaid him...so I'm always available if you wanted to hit me up.
  2. Hit me up sometime...I love meeting new people.
  3. I'll try and hit you up for some when I'm on next then and see if we can't find some interesting way to meet.
  4. It really depends on the situation...I don't like retconning in general cause the potential it has to mess up events in someone stories. I've been part of several big rp arcs like that. One in particular we finally made it up to the climax people got offended ooc, and the dm just decided to quit. This really inconvenienced everyone involved. So what we were forced to do is come up with a super vague conclusion and say our characters blocked it out or refused to talk about specifics. Though I'd say really that's the besthing way to handle something that's been cut short is communicate some short of resolution if possible. If everyone is on the same page then the chances of characters having two different versions of events become far less likely.
  5. Well S'imba has gone back to fighting as a gladiator, so they could run into each other. Just shoot me a tell sometime.
  6. Pacing issues for me come from all sorts of issues. Sometimes people just decide that the story is interfering with what they want to do so they'll try to force a resolution so they can do their own thing. I've seen a few instances where someone outside the rp but still in the rp group forces their way in and magically comes up with everything needed to solve everything. Then there are those who want to be the star of the rp and will do everything they can to be the first to get things fixed. On a DM side of a plot it seems there are those that see where they want their character to be and just want to get there. Which is unfortunate because if a character gets where they are going the moment someone wants something for them they get burned out and stop playing the character, even if its a solid interesting character. All these things require a different approach but really ooc communication is one of the best things you can do. Being able to know a character's skill before hand will help gauge what challenges to put in place tailored for the character's skill level. Even better if you can get them to tell you a character's weaknesses you can place challenges that will test those and end up a win win for both parties since it gives a chance for character development.
  7. I'm a scrublord when it comes to my posts, but I honestly prefer information to be conveyed in clear to understand words. Especially if I'm trying to interpret an action to respond to. Making a comparison to a baseball bat tells me a lot more information than trying to make a description of every movement. I can immediately imagine what swinging a baseball bat looks like. Easy to picture every movement that's occurring instantly, I can imagine foot placement, movement of the hips posture, and pretty much any other part of that action. In order to convey that same message without an analogy there has to be a lot more words used and then my brain has to process a lot more especially if the information turns out to be extremely vague. To be honest long posts that have have information that could be said in a much more clear and direct manner ruin the mood for me. I lose the feeling of a sense of time passing. Especially if a post feels like it has a lot of unnecessary filler because the standard seems a person's skill as an rper is judged on the length of the post. Really just use the amount of writing it takes to tell the story.
  8. From what I got from the drk quests is that like a lot of history is fabricated. We know the first Dark Knight started off by killing a priest in defense of the innocent. So in my mind the holy see would demonize any of the followers of this order. Labeling them followers of the powers of darkness. Kind of what happened with the inquisition and templars. Over time the dark knights began to accept these for whatever reason. Even the tiny beings kind of say that the darkness you wield is born of the light when your trying to learn the true secrets of the powers of the abyss. A lot of this is personal opinion I've formed from the story so take it with a grain of salt.
  9. I'm always up for rp meeting new people...if I see you guys I'll stop by or just hit me up with a tell.
  10. I think judging may be the wrong word...there's nothing wrong with avoiding RP that you're not into. It's when things get taken out of character and condescending when it becomes a problem. Calling people out as bad or going into a linkshell and saying how so and so is a bad rper is what in my opinion needs to be avoided. All that will cause is more people to avoid the roleplayer, which only makes the situation worse. Yeah there's a lot of stereotypes out there. You see a scantily clad cat girl, yeah chances are high that they could be just looking for erp. You want to avoid a character like that and not risk having to rp with someone like that it's fine. It's when a person starts vocalizing those assumptions that's the problem. Even if that character isn't an erper and their character is scantily clad for an actual IC reason suddenly they start getting a negative reputation. There's a lot of people that are new to rping and normally need a little extra patience. If that person gets hit with a lot of negativity they'll almost certainly be pushed away and have several stereotypes about RPers confirmed causing them to just become another troll. People all have standards and there's nothing wrong with that. But if you're out in a public place or event then you're going to have to deal with what those standards say is subpar rp. You'll have to deal with RP that may be considered disruptive or obnoxious. Though I think in those situations is where people need to exercise extra tolerance even if you don't like the character or rper. A person may not like it when people post short little responses. Though then there's people who won't appreciate waiting for a paragraph of text, describing every little facial movement for a yes or no question. Basically just be nice to each other and avoid the backbiting.
  11. The big one I've seen is taking absolutely everything a character says as truth and simply writing the rper off as a lore breaker. Which may be a complete lie on an ic level. There have been lots of characters S'imba knows that have tended to use terms to describe him that aren't remotely true about him. Some of it he'd deny other stuff he'd be too ignorant to know it's not true. A character claiming to be a black or white mage, S'imba is probably going to believe them. For one he doesn't have the knowledge of the lore on an ic level other than he knows of their existence. So with a few flashy spells it's not exactly hard for a conjurer to pass themselves off as a white mage to him. Makes for a lot more interesting character interaction to not just assume that the character is lore breaking. Just my thoughts on it.
  12. S'imba tends to bunch races into stereotypes in his mind...though with Lalafell he believes them to be fundamentally evil. The only thing theyou care about in his mind is making more gil. Even the cutesy ones are evil little manipulators. He once got his ass beaten by a female lalafell blade after he tried to talk his way out of it...and she was truly incorruptible. Wouldn't even take a bribe from the bitter old man who showed up to help S'imba. Combat wise I tend to see Lalafell as more than capable...kinda like an ant packing things bigger than themselves. I tend to imagine Lalafell to have the density of a brick. Like pudgy but that layer of fat is covering some serious muscle...no way it's true just an amusing head canon I have.
  13. Well to me it makes sense from a lore stand point for a mage to just number his spells. Easier to write and organize since mages tend to have that sort of mindset. Though the other names sound impressive I would imagine that a smart mage would do everything in his power not to announce the spell he was trying to cast in order to give his opponent less time to counter attack. Though in reality I'd imagine it would depend on the mage and how they were taught. A mage from Ul'dah might number them but a mage from other lands might use the blizzaga type names.

  15. I see soulstones as a kind of how to manual. Though just because you have a soulstone doesn't automatically give you all the knowledge. You have to work for it and slowly have it reveal what's recorded in it by mastering skills slowly. Kind of a really fancy text book. The soulstone just shows you how to do something properly. It's not very likely there were soulstones around to teach the very first black mage black magic. At least in my head they were extremely talented individuals in their field to develop these jobs which they then recorded their knowledge in stones to keep their discoveries alive.
  16. S'imba

    H-Hello?

Well I've recently been playing a few characters on Mateus so if I see you there I'll be sure to say hello.
  17. Ah I must have just missed you...I'll keep an eye out.
  18. S'imba has been a regular fighter in the bloodsands in recent years, fairly successful and all. So you can always poke me if your character would have seen him fight.
  19. I think the biggest thing is that the soul stone has to choose the wielder. Or at least that seems to be the case in most of the cases of the quests I've done.
  20. The first thing to remember is you can't force someone's character to perceive your character how you want them to. I've seen it a lot...such as someone getting upset because people don't bow down to their character because they are of noble blood. So you can't really force people to accept your character as experienced. That being said there are things you can do to give your character credibility. A lot of it parallels real life. You've got to show you're experienced, otherwise people are just going to treat it as talk. While S'imba is by no means experienced or some awesome bad ass, he tries to help people. Some of these people he has assisted in the past however tend to speak very highly of him...a couple tending to over exaggerate events. One such individual that thought so highly of him that she would tell every man she met how they fell short of how awesome S'imba was. Though with this standard set whenever they actually met him they tended to quickly see the truth that he was just an idiot of a kid who lived in a fantasy of being a hero. I feel that is the best way to get a sense of reputation is find people who can help spread it. Though admittedly that is far easier said than done. When you meet new people you're left with the option of your character being boastful of themselves or having an event occur that can actually show your character's experience.
  21. Well he sounds like just the type of person that S'imba would be interested in talking to considering a lot of R'adehn has interests in a lot of things that S'imba is seeking further answers on...I'd love to RP with you.
  22. Well depending on how certain events go, since S'imba has been experimented on already why not put him through some more of it...so yeah I'd be interested in possibly setting something up.
  23. My router does something similar where it resets every 12 hours. Usually around noon or midnight. Though it does tender to decide to throw that schedule off and change to 9:00 or something similar. But other than that it's pretty consistent with when it occurs.
  24. I mean IClly it would be far easier to refer to a bloodsucker as a vampire. Even if they don't follow traditional vampire myth. Unless your character wants to sound like a pretentious douche and is like. "Technically." *Pushes rim of glasses up against nose* "He's not a vampire, but a bloodsucker who just happens to have a lot of traits that are consistent with vampirism."
  25. Theoretically they'd have to have a vampire legend, otherwise they would just call it a 'bloodsucking' lampern. Or something similar. That's what I meant ;;>.> Basically even though we don't see a real vampire in game the term does mean there's legend behind it. Which means most likely if someone is sucking blood from a living being, that they are most likely going to be seen as a vampire by the average person. Though they may not be a vampire based on Eorzea folk lore, there are lots of dark powers that come with some kind of catch which could be the traditional strengths and weaknesses of a vampire. We have the tools to make a literal vampire, but due to the fact we don't see a real one in game calling yourself a vampire is a major rp sin? Despite the fact there are possibilities to making one by all definition of the term. Eva's words to S'imba may have inspired me to play devil's advocate. /does Eva fist pump of social justice.
