I think a more appropriate question would be "How will the 3.x series effect your RP? Predictions?" 3.0 will only set the standard of gameplay, raid, amd combat. Of course it fires off the start of the story, especially since we're introducing new jobs and a whole new race and a city. But the other cities will be around, and the story will grow as 3.x continues. Like Nanamo stepping down, Gridania founding a new West Shroud, etc. It's too early, imo. But I can say that MCH will take Oscare in a more practical turn.
