Yep! I noticed the armor almost immediately and was quite excited for it.

Something that somewhat unsettles me about healers that I've encountered on this game is that they take the time to DPS at all whenever a tank is taking any noticeable amount of damage. Perhaps I'm from a different school of thought, but I'm a firm believer in pre-casting spells to prepare for oncoming damage when I know a large attack is coming. It is also true that any one in a tank role should be using their active mitigation skills to help this, but I still cannot find myself wanting to defend a WHM insists on spamming Holy in the cleave zones (facing away or not, sometimes they get clipped) and refusing to cast anything other than the occasional Medica. For OP's particular situation, I think you'll be encountering a fair amount of people that generally assume that a dungeon doesn't mean 'hey, group activity! I may be responsible for things' and more of a 'I hope everyone here will carry me so I may collect my exp/loot/rewards and I'll be able to do as little as possible!'. Often, if you are not in the company of friends, expect to do twice the work you normally do and mental preparation is required for this. I consider myself a career tank in MMOs. I've done it in many, many forms and find it to be my most comfortable spot. Most of the time I make the extra effort for myself to have the right gear, know the fights before hand and keep as many tools available to myself as possible as a 'just in case' measure. I played healers in all of these titles to further understand what I was subjecting people to when I did tank and discovered quite quickly that very few people care about others in PUGs. In this game, it hasn't nearly been as bad as I've seen (Save for a few CT runs and a WoD here or there). So I consider myself quite fortunate. tl;dr If you aren't running with friends, expect the worst and do whatever you can to prepare yourself for it.

I actually found this pretty relevant. Thanks OP! This confirms a few things for myself. Although, I also suppose it would make for a lot of trouble in the wrong hands, if you think of it.
-
I laughed pretty hard at these in particular. I see it too often!
-
Yeah I just saw this myself. Quite a surprise! Suppose I'll be able to squeeze a few more runs in here and there now. Which is nice as an option, but I hardly find it to be a requirement for myself.

Sweet, Bomb mount is gonna fly! I was actually worried about that. After all the grinding too. I especially wanted since it's going to fit a theme.

As far as I'm concerned, Trickweapons already exist in this game to various degrees. A boatload of existing weapons have transforming segments to them. Of course, their uses are nearly as dramatic as they are in this video. I do however firmly believe it to be 'possible'. That being said:

Dunno about my future character, but Yhur will likely be revisiting. There will always be dead people, and it's part of his quirk to follow where death travels. He has business there anyway.

How to properly react to RP you don't like (or 'Punting the Puppy')

Curious George is making a dedicated effort to revitalize the ways of the Warrior, so yes. Doesn't have to come from him, but someone he taught can presumably teach someone else. Beyond that, there's stories and legends. No reason why someone couldn't go digging and uncover it themselves. Huh, sweet. You can teach people to get MAD AS FUCK and it's okay? I LIKE IT. Thanks! -

This is rather distant from the OP (Sorry about that!) but is it possible to RP as an actual WAR? Warren made a post detailing other Jobs pretty clearly, but I don't recall seeing anything about them that was specific. Was just curious, really. -

Damn son, I don't think I was actually prepared to take that in. I have no negative or positive things to say on it. It is very interesting though! Thank you. -

I'm a Garlean that uses magic. A pure-blooded Garlean. Fight me. I read this a few times. Then I read it again. Is this serious? Forgive me for not being in the know. I actually want to know! -
Surprising...I would have though that it doesn't matter if they are more demonic, people's ignorance and prejudices don't favour the truth of something. But I imagine SE don't want players to feel disheartened by playing characters who are shunned by the NPCs you are the hero of. I imagine there's going to be a lot of player characters who will distrust them for all sorts of different reasons. Ishgardians aren't known for their tolerance at the best of times - but it does seem like they're very slowly becoming more and more welcoming towards outsiders. As for everything else? The article doesn't reveal a whole lot that wasn't available already but I'm quite pleased that we haven't got a 'WoW' situation where every last little detail about a content patch/expansion is revealed to players in advance. I look forward to exploring everything when the expansion goes live. The 'genetic engineering/experimentation' thing piques my interest. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Garlean Empire (since it feels like the sort of thing they'd be into) but I may be mistaken. If it is, however, it may allow me to shed some darker light on Graeham's mixed heritage if it turns out to be something they've been doing for some time elsewhere. It pleases me to see that people outside of my circle of friends take an interest in stuff like this. Since I have little interaction with Garlean RPers atm, I feel as though I won't be encountering a lot of themes like this unless I actively seek it out. This theme, was one of my original attractions to Wildstar, but that didn't quite pan out for myself as I don't play that particular title anymore for a number of reasons. Still a fine game though- and that's unrelated. Sorry. On the subject of Au Ra, I am hopeful that mixed reactions will come up and not be met with overwhelmingly positive or negative stuff without some time spent interacting. At least for my character. I'd like to start on a grey area with everyone and let his actions determine his standing. It makes it much more fun for me. Death Knights in WoW tended to have a very onesided style of RP, which worked in that game because of predetermined lore reasons. I was okay with them there, (Even the questlines to make one were very clear about what you are and how people are supposed to feel about you) it just makes me hopeful that it's slightly more open ended here when it comes to Au Ra. Weird comparison I guess, but a passing thought.

Yhur is really good at building people shaped boxes, and people shaped boxed related accessories. He doesn't currently possess any particular powers. For a little while, I considered making him effectively useless in combat. I find it more likely that he's able to do some simple things, possibly, but he's never tried because he's never cared.

We've discussed WHAT powers, let's discuss WHY powers!

I'll be using a former character of mine, who will remain nameless because of reasons and it won't matter much anyway because he's not on this game anyhow. I was ICly hired by a guild to defend the family. The original idea I had was a 'bandit' type character that was chased out of his home by a force stronger than anyone he had overtaken and anyone else could answer to. Since he had to change lifestyle very suddenly, he grew open to the idea that something had to change. He was approached and offered a new home, a new job and an endless supply of things to partake in. His sense of justice was skewed and found little value in coin, since he had accumulated so much of it from his lifestyle that it wouldn't grant him the pleasure he sought. Continuously putting himself in situations he hadn't encountered before forced him to adapt. It was not uncommon for him to find a new mark that would challenge him, and over the years he had picked up new talents and at least heard of new concepts. Now, with a power family to support his actions and provide work for him, he was able to indulge. No longer did his weapons need to be second hand, he gained protective wards to add to his newer armor, he gained various trinkets of questionable morality and functionality and most importantly he learned from many experienced combatants how to improve himself. Being taught how to read, helped considerably as well. Without these things, I wouldn't have been able to effectively play him in the universe that I was in. There were too many powerful forces at work that a simple bandit without a home could deal with. It was mostly out of necessity and general RP that he came to be. He ended up far beyond a point where simple 'protective' duties ended up being too menial (Sounds stupid, I know) but I had to place him in far more dangerous positions and tasks because of it. Eventually, I shelved the character and let him 'stay where he is' and a reminder to myself that limitations are very important and can get a little boring if they aren't present. Edit: Goddammit, Warren. tl;dr I really wanted to RP with some new people, so I made a simple concept and ran with it. Little by little it built up to where it eventually ended. -
With the boatload of fortune tellers inbound, things like this should be quite an event for them. I mean this in a good way, mind you. Overall, I think this could be a really fun event. I imagine there's some real work involved in this and I'll keep an ear to the ground to see if I can be of any help. No promises, of course. I'm voting 2 days at most. It already takes a lot to do one day, three being a bit much and I think two sounds just about right. I highly recommend a color scheme for attendees and actual workers though. It'll help distinguish people much better. Even masks, things that stand out quite a bit is helpful.

How to properly react to RP you don't like (or 'Punting the Puppy')
Harmonixer replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
OP always comes up with interesting threads. A long time ago, I used to have a set of hard and fast rules when it came to what RP was to me and what I would allow. This was after I had my stint with crazy concepts that bent rules and trying hard to do what I want exclusively. It was ripe with hardship, as you might have guessed. For a number of reasons, but as time went on... I relaxed a lot. The only ones I try to 'enforce' for myself now is no playing of already present NPCs in the game. I did have the pleasure of meeting 'Thrall' and 'Sylvanas' more than once in Warcraft, and I would love to keep those are more distant memories. So, with things like that in mind, it brings me to how I handle stuff today. Mostly, I play it by a case by case scenario. I have no trouble admitting my own mood plays into this largely and varies from time to time. Some days, I'm very okay with allowing someone to bend the rules when it comes to lore. Sometimes it's major, sometimes it's tiny. I can't help but think back to the story of someone who played LotRs and had a magic spell that simply changed the colors of their dress. Apparently a large number of people were absolutely furious with the very idea of it! Myself? I would have let it slide. It seemed harmless, it's intent wasn't to gain anything other than the ability to change colors, right? I like to think that I'm a fairly laid back person. I don't like making people feel stupid, I certainly don't enjoy making people unhappy. I get my kicks in seeing people entertained and enjoying themselves. Sometimes even trying to do this, puts me at odds with them. So when it comes to RP... I tend to let an awful lot slide. I keep my involvement limited if the time comes, usually by lack of contact or friendly tells about wanting to disengage for one reason or another. Most of the time, people who RP heavy lore breaking stuff don't actually care for partners, so much as an audience. I guess I've more or less discovered I care much more for like minded individuals. I enjoy RP because it's somewhat of a performance. It's engaging and fun, and can vary a great deal. I keep contact with people I like if I can help it, and do my best not to be rude to ones I don't. I just remain distant. If asked? Sometimes I tell them clearly, depending on the person. As I've said, it's really rare that someone who 'gets under my skin' is actually aware that they are doing it because it's such a self absorbed practice in the first place. A firm believer in that you should get 'exactly what you desire as an RPer,' I just don't have to be the one that provides it. Perhaps it's years of playing a 'bad guy' and watching even the most lore mongering people simply bore the shit out of everyone involved has conditioned me to this state. Being tragically boring is a sentence that is self inflicted. This is super subjective though. I kind of envy people who go out of their way to make themselves special 'snowflake' compared to community norms. They are generally much happier. I can't bring myself to attempt to police it for them, just seems wrong. -
Taking cues from games like Monster Hunter, gripping something by the horns doesn't suddenly mean you have control. It certainly could provide an advantage, but the conditions for it go eitherway. I agree that kissing isn't the norm. It's more likely that uh 'creative' things come into play here. It's also likely that after they interacted with Doma and now the rest of the adventurers in our neck of the woods they'll discover new ones. Not all of their horns prevent this, and considering their masses of the males in comparison to the females, it's 'possible.' I like to think that Xaelan tend to find uses for their facial ornaments offensively, along with tails. Seriously, go look at those things in the CC. It's insane. One of them looks like Deviljhos tail. The other is vaguely bladed. Sleeping on their backs, or in just generally strange positions. Anyone who's ever gotten a ear piercing is familiar with not being able to sleep on one side. Who knows though? It could be comfortable for them to slam it straight down into a block of wood or something and somewhat suspend themselves. A good point on clothes, I hadn't considered that. That's something to note for RP in general. I think I like that myself. It's actually going to be quite comical, and I think many RPers should really take it into consideration! It's definitely a hindrance for our style of living, but I can't imagine they would have gotten as far as they have being identical in that way.

I just came here to say good first post, and welcome. I like the colors and style. Enjoy your stay here.

Imagine a room in which a somewhat sleek machine continuously presses out the same product over and over again. The room is bare, the process is almost soothing. But is incredibly unsettling at the same time. It does not seem to have an on or off switch, it can be placed nearly anywhere else and yet it continues to provide its product without pausing. When it runs out of materials. It simply waits. Poised to resume it's craft. Is is undoubtedly functional, but no one wants to use it, even if they must eventually. That is Yhur.

I haven't bothered looking at this thread since my initial question was answered. Now that it's up to 14 pages at the time of this post I actually took the time to read all the posts. I think this more or less cements my positive outlook on things to come. Having been in a lot of different communities lately, it's nice to see actual opinions being made and genuine efforts to promote growth are in force. My 'main' forum is for lack of a better description, a hateful self deprivation exercise that leads to extremely hurtful personal attacks and a few e-celebs that spend all of their time trying to 'shit where they sleep', so to speak. It's really tiresome and the people who try to help make things better, aren't being helped by the mods properly. Slaps on the wrists and turning the other cheek and all that. It's a complete warzone every day and while there was really hard workers there are just as many that try to invalidate anything being done positively. I won't lie tho, this is an incredibly entertaining read and I think as long as people continue to be honest and don't spend time ass-patting instead of addressing problems then we should continue to be just fine. Obviously it's not an overnight process and by no means is this suddenly going to be the best place ever, but I can say that I'm comfortable for once. That hasn't happened in a long time. It's not perfect, but it will do. I think the potential here is strong, at the very least. As a long time lurker (A very long time) I think it's finally gotten to a point where people as a collective are figuring out how this is going to work. Best of luck to the mods, I'll try to keep out of your hair and mind myself. I can't stand doing your job these days and I applaud you all for bothering in the first place. -
I don't have a gif for flipping a table and demanding that things be brought to me, but that should sum up my feelings nicely. I'm excited for stuff like this. It's sometimes a dangerous road to walk, with the uncanny valley thing. But I think SE can handle themselves well in this regard. Long gone are the days of their failed movie project. But no one can fault them for even attempting it in the first place.
