Meta-gaming, using OOC knowledge IC, how do you deal with it?
LadyRochester replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I'll consider it. I'm just terrified they'll take it poorly, but if this continues I'm just going to let it boil under the surface and the situation might get more uncomfortable than necessary.- 19 replies

Hello everyone, I have a small problem. Recently, I started to RP with a lot of people, and one of these people is trying to push really hard for romance between our characters. Even though she is married, all parties know about this OOC and are fine with it, even if the "pursuer" may not get beyond friendship after all. I told him there was no promise that they'd end up together, as my character is very much in love. All fine and dandy, right? Here's the problem: The pursuer (Let's call him "P") keeps using OOC info that there is little to no way he'd know ICly to further his 'relationship' with my character. Somehow, he knows all her favorite foods, all her favorite desserts, etc. There is info I fed him IC, but that wasn't part of it. And of course his character keeps getting points if he mysteriously knows EVERYTHING my character likes, but to me, it feels extremely unnatural and forced, not how relationships should flow in any form or fashion. I try to avoid RP with this person because I don't want to call them out OOC, they are someone I consider a friend, after all. It just really bothers me. They are a fantastic writer, too. All I can do is just stop feeding him info. But what do I do if it happens again?

So! Sasha is in deep shit and her head of security has ended up resigning for the sake of his ethical concerns and sanity. We will be open for interviews the next two weeks. —– IC —— Name: Age: Personality (the basics, or whatever you feel like writing, actaually, the more you write, the better) Arms carried: Previous experience: Morality alignment References (if any): Any information you deem relevant: —- OOC —- Morality alignment you’re most comfortable RPing with: Timezone/Times available for rp: Concerns: Etc, etc

Guys, please. My character is a dumbass with money. She inherited an enormous company about 2 years ago and ever since her previous husband "dissappeared" it has been on the decline since no-one will manage it. She outright refuses to take responsability and is paying other people to "manage" it without really doing any administration herself, a huge mistake that so far has costed her millions. She also spends A LOT of money on dumb things she doesn't need. Save her from her financial incompetence. Help. Here's a link to her full RP profile (with hooks and such) Or refer to my (slightly outdated) RPC wiki.

Haven't taken a picture in almost 2 years now, so here goes:

I bought the best lip gloss I have ever purchased in my entire life. 10/10. The pigmentation is excellent, the range of colours is flattering (mostly), and the formula clings to the lips without feeling too sticky. Also, it lasted me for a whopping 4 hours!!!! It's the Chanel Rouge Allure gloss,I bought shade #19. THIS IS JUST ONE COAT. ONE. COAT. Here's a view of the range of colours (not my picture, not crazy enough to buy all) I tried #21 but the colour felt a little uneven. The lighter shades are perfect, though the lighter you go, the less pigmented some become.

Aya is so cheerful that it's extremely easy to smile for her. Also, her character is really attractive, but he knows that already. -
I live in Uruguay, so brands here are either super high end or super shitty. There's no in-between. Needless to say, if you like make-up, it gets really pricey, especially because our import taxes are ridiculously high. I am a sucker for golden/champagne/rose/copper tones. I'm super pale and I think they are very flattering colours. My most recent purchases were two: Chanel Quad Eyeshadow - Tisse Vendome (204) The colours of these eyeshadows are super delicate and pigmented. They are a little powdery, but they tend to stay on the lid even with minimal/no primer. Lancome Hypnose Dazzling Cream Eyeshadow - Brun Cabas (205) It is super red and coppery, but it's so flattering on every eye color/skintone. The texture is very smooth (mousse-y), and it packs on the lid quite beautifully. This is one of my favorites. It's super practical and it's just gorgeous. I would kill to have the Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay, but they don't sell UD stuff in Uruguay, which makes me really sad as it is by far the most gorgeous palette I've ever seen. All the shades in this palette are just stunning, especially Dust, Trick, Liar, and Mugshot. It kills me that I can't buy this where I live.

I have no idea what they might have sent you exactly, but if this player is willing to kill your character, it would only be normal for them to expect consequences from other player characters in attacking them if the word gets out that they're out to kill you. The same logic applies to the opposite party, otherwise where's the fun behind a conflict? Problem with that is people always take these things personally and seek to complain when things do not go their way because as you may know it the world revolves around them and them alone. My concern lies in the fact I had too many characters torture/harrass/betray my character and then dissappear off the RP sphere when she sought them out for revenge or to make them pay for what they did to her. I don't know this roleplayer too well, and from the sounds of it, they wanted to have an assured kill of my character without a roll battle or anything of the sort. As I said, if I'm killing this character, I want it done as organically as possible, which should be approached via a roll battle so there's an equal chance for life or death. What if you were outnumbered or if your potential killer successfully manages to spike your drink? That's fair enough, I suppose. I'd have to do a perception roll, and if it succeeds, chances are she'll call for help to at least be carried out of any danger zone. As far as outnumbering goes, well... She'd be fucked. She'd try to save her ass with diplomacy, but she'd be fucked. Can't argue with that. I suppose I could always boost the party that's outnumbered to make it a more fair match, but there would have to be a canon reason for that 'boost'.

Disaster! SE just ruined your headcanon!
LadyRochester replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
Don't think I have enough headcanons that SE could potentially ruin that are important to my character. That said, I would probably discreetly retcon a few details and change them up. Or, you know, cry like a little bitch. -
I don't want people to think I'm killing off my character without putting any resistance 'for the lulz' which seems to be the impression a lot are getting. I got a PM from a player after I posted this thread where they claimed they would want to 'legally kill' my character because of all of her crimes. Which to me translates to: "I want to kill your character and not suffer any consequences" Hence the clarification.

A complicated question worthy of a complicated answer. First off, I'd like to start by saying that I really do enjoy this character. I have not grown bored of her, and I still see a lot of potential growth. However, this is also a very controversial character. She has manipulated, lied, deceived, gotten other players killed and/or put into extremely difficult, miserable situations (With the RP'er's consent beforehand, of course). This is a character that has made a lot of enemies (and friends), so getting killed by someone is not completely unexpected. Truth is, this is due to how other characters and players have expressed their desire to have her killed. I am not against this, as long as they are willing to understand the following rules: 1. If my character is up for perma-death, so should yours. 2. Expect her former friends/contacts to pursue her killer and attempt to kill them in turn. 3. The RP should be organic, the possibility of death is there, but it should remain as what it is: A possibility. It is not, and never will be, a certainty until the kill is done and over with. Currently, one of her enemies (an active alt of my main RP partner for almost 3 years now) follows all these rules, and does have a valid reason to want her killed. I don't mind re-rolling my character, and it would make for a good story. MOST of my friends have expressed a lot of interest in this storyline, most. Keep in mind, even with all the rules being followed, this isn't a character that can easily be killed based off the fact she is almost never, ever alone. She always has someone watching her back, as she is pretty paranoid about others. TL;DR: At this point, it would be unrealistic for someone not to want to kill her, and since a few have asked for the chance, I'm offering it to them. It's for the sake of an interesting story for a character that probably deserves what's coming for her.
-
As I stated before, the possibility of her dying will depends on RNG, other player's actions, etc. As far as I'm concerned, the situation where she may die may not even happen in the first place, should a character do something to shift the story elsewhere, which is perfectly possible. A lot of people did not seem to appreciate the mere possibility of her dying though, which is where my concern stems from. I'm still going to go with the plan, if the story progresses like I think it will, but I don't like stepping on the toes of those I RP with.
-
I might be a little too attached to this character OOC to give her a flat "LOL DED" ending, hence why I'd be doing it in an event. And yes, I can see where you come from, it can be especially painful if the character they suddenly kill off has established close relationships and such. Have you experienced this before? How did you take it?
-
These are fantastic points. I wouldn't make it something sudden, and again, I will give people plenty of chances for the death to be avoided. It remains a possibility, but it won't come off as a terrible surprise when it does. The character that will be affected the most will likely be X'elo Maimhov, who has been her confidant/lover/best friends for around 3 years now. We discussed it, and he seems fine with it, but I can't imagine it will be a terribly fun thing to RP when/if it happens for others who took a liking to my character, especially if they know they could've done something about it but because of RNG/circumstances, they couldn't pull it off. It's one of my major concerns, which is why I'm looking into this before making my character just die suddenly.
-
See, but why would it matter why someone kills off their character? Wouldn't it be the same result regardless of their reasoning? If I kill off my character, I'm remaking/fantasia-ing her into a whole new character, considering making alts in Balmung is too much of a hassle. A person might still want to RP, even if their character winds up dead. Isn't it okay for them to try roleplaying something new? Or perhaps I'm not understanding.
-
So I've been tempted to start this RP where my character dying is a very real possibility (Considering my RNG has a tendency to take a shit on me). I will make it so that there's about a 50% chance of her dying, and others will have the chance (not certainty) to save her, should they really want to. I am extremely excited about the idea, and so are a few of my friends and RP partners, others, however... Not so much. Their reasoning doesn't seem to go beyond: "BECAUSE I DON'T WANT MY CHARACTER TO BE SADD!!1!" So, I have a few questions for the RPC regarding character death. 1. Have you killed your character before? 2. How did your friends take it? 3. Would you not want to RP with someone who may unceremoniously kill off their character? Why?

We are aware that the Gelmorran civilization flourished for thousands of years after The War of Magi, when mankind was driven underground by angry Elementals. Now, considering the differences between wildwood and duskwight, we know that the ruins have been abandoned for long enough by the former so that genetic mutations were allowed to happen over the span of generations. That said, how large is Gelmorra, exactly? How far does it extend underneath the shroud? Is it this labyrinth of undeground tunnels that extend throughout the Shroud and Gridania, or is the space more limited? I am extremely curious. For more info, check out the official wiki page for Gelmorra.

Both sides have good reasons to choose what they wish, to be frank, I do not envy the decision they had to face. However, I will point out that I strongly dislike the fear-mongering seen on both ends, especially on the side of those who voted remain. Leaving the EU won't be the end of England or the world. It will lead to a recession, but it should be short term, certainly not as bad as the recession in 2008. The more fearful people are of the future of post-Brexit England, the more it will lead to uncertainty, and the worse the economic recession will be. After all, uncertainty is the economy's worst enemy, as it stalls the market. I'm not going to say either side is wrong or right, but for those already panicking and claiming it will ruin their lives, please understand that England will most likely pull through. Any nation with a backbone knows that refusing to trade with post-brexit Britain would be absolutely moronic, as it is still considered a rather powerful nation when it comes to economy. Germany, USA and Canada ALL say they want special trade deals with post-Brexit Britain Statement from the Governor of the Bank of England following the EU referendum result I'm also a little irked about the whole "OLD PEOPLE SHOULDN'T VOTE" narrative. Yes, most people who opted for Brexit were older than 45 (Though not by a large margin), but the whole "They're going to die soon so they don't care!" is, to put it bluntly, bullshit. Most of these people will live to see the results and will be affected by them, just as you do. To dismiss someone's opinion based on their age is petty and stupid. TL;DR: Stop panicking. Everything will be fine. Britain was fucked either way.

I've seen Chip around and I must admit that the character concept of O'kihp/Asrael is really, really interesting. I've always meant to RP with him but I never really dared to. O'kihp is genuinely a character that is both terrifying and fascinating, I really, really adore the concept. I can't stress that enough.
