  1. I'll buy the Dark Knight thing, but given that Soken is a big ol' troll, I'd say there's a solid chance he did that on purpose to screw with people.
  2. I would never dismiss anything anyone working on the game does as "just trying to look cool". We know what extraordinary lengths Fernelhawes and Yoshida go to as far as keeping everything consistent and maintaining the quality. I'm certain the video artists were given extremely precise instructions on what to create.
  3. Huh. I guess "How?" would be my big thing. I mean, surely there must be more training involved than the main story's "Go touch it!" quest, right? Like, okay, so you're super spiritually strong and your name-tag says you're an adventurer. So you pay the toll, walk up to the aetheryte, and then what? Wish really hard until it takes you where you want to go? I dunno, I guess I'd always assumed it was like Warcraft mage teleporting, where even if you're good at it, there's a chance you'll come out the other end as a charred corpse...
  4. Just spent the last hour or so listening to Kamelot while working on my wiki/making my new signature e3bEqbKzRM8
  5. Bear with me here, I have a lot of thanking to catch up on! Firstly, a big thanks to Sasha Rochester for getting me to come over to Balmung in the first place! Another thank you to Geal Raralo and Dach Thundercry, the first friends I made during those initial couple of lonely days. To Kokomo Komo for keeping me company these last two nights up in Camp Dragonhead, and finally, to RPC's own Inessa for all the help she's given me, plus her part in our enormous pre-maintenance dance party!
  6. Hrmmm... well I just recently became a witch hunter, so I guess that's gonna be a busy couple weeks for me
  7. Gotta go with Warren here. Personally, I don't even use teleportation IC. It was my impression that only powerful wizards and those with strong aetheric connection could even use the aetheryte crystals. I feel like we need to set heavy limits on who can use teleportation and how. Otherwise, even on the surface, traditional methods of travel become significantly less meaningful. If we kept digging deeper into the societal impact such magic being widespread would have, we'd get into a world so far removed from our own that we couldn't even properly RP in it. Now I'm not saying it should require Louisoix levels of magic to use, but I think some natural talent and a few years of training are in order. We could even go as far as to say that more powerful mages can bring people with them.
  8. Guys, I'm doing some sketchy non-canon stuff and I need help! I'm building this entire character around an Ishgardian organization of spies and assassins, which of course exists to track and kill/capture heretics. So as is often my problem, I can't quite come up with a fitting name for it. Pls halp?
  9. While a full-on dress isn't very realistic, armored pants are even more unrealistic and, in reality, would be typically reserved for horse-mounted knights. Infantry almost always wore either skirts, or a long shirt with a belt around the waist.
  10. I'm absolutely certain that the new emperor is Lord Waifu Gaius van Baelsar. He might be in disguise and using a new name, but nothing short of Gaius himself re-appearing will convince me otherwise, regardless of how damning the evidence may be.
  11. Ha! No way that's going to be a caster set. Like all of the best sets, that'll be Bard restricted. However, on the off chance SE decides to be cool for once and let WHM wear it, you're gonna see me become very poor very fast as I purchase a full set of it the moment it hits the MB.
  12. Well it looks almost identical to a russian dwarf hamster, which costs about $5 at a pet store.
  13. Thank Inessa and Jariana! That's a lot of great suggestions to think about.
  14. Knowing SE, marriage will probably require a 10,000,000 gil dowry, which will go to the floor. Also the rings will be made out of Purified Dark Steel, a new material created by combining 10 Darksteel Nuggets, 3 Mastercraft Demimateria, and 1 Atma of the Scorpion. If, by some miracle, it has reasonable requirements, then yes. I do have an IC partner planned.
  15. I'm going to be using that Direwolf healing robe (the one that looks exactly like Cashmere) pretty soon, but I'm trying and failing to make an Ishgardian combat medic. Hopefully SE will stop being nerds in the near future, but right now WHM only have access to one set of armored chest/legs, which is the Light Steel set (which I've been using the chest from, but it looks so cold...). It's really not fair, either. Like 90% of the DoM armor has no class restriction, but almost every last piece of DoW armor is class-specific. My theory is that either SE hates mages, or someone on the team is such a hardcore mage-purist that he refuses to ever let us wear anything other than a robe and wizard hat.
  16. Weather is actually one of my biggest RP challenges, at the moment. As a WHM, trying to make a good looking set that's also suited for the bitter cold of Coerthas is practically impossible. It's the main reason I'm grinding frontlines so hard right now. I'm often tempted to say 'screw it' and claim that my faith in the almightly Halone keeps my midriff warm. Ryoko has always loved playing in the rain, though. Many a conversation has come to an abrupt halt when a storm rolled in and Ryoko suddenly ran outside and started jumping around.
  17. Personally, I use the in-game appearance for all of my characters, and Ryoko looks almost entirely human as it is. Basically the least cat-like a Miqo'te can be. As for the outfit, I'm in the process of seeing what I can make as a White Mage. Armor choices are pretty slim, but I have this thing where I need to be able to glamour my RP gear over my raiding gear. So PLD and DRG are kind of off the table.
  18. Feel free to find me as Anelia Sadowyn (not this Wed/Thurs) if you are interested in RPing together and discuss your character focus. I know how it feels like being brushed off on people not RPing with you due to character backgrounds or name etc. Cool! I'll see if I can find you!
  19. Wow, it seems like there's a 1.x cutscene to address almost anything. It's unfortunate the wikis don't document that information better. As for the heretic outfits, don't they typically wear whatever they have on hand? Or even civilian clothes? I wasn't under the impression they had a uniform.
  20. So um, none of that "RP what you want" stuff here. I mean that's wonderful that everyone's so tolerant of different RP styles, but I'm really looking for some honest opinions here. Because I'm in the process of a complete character re-write, and RPing anything you want is no fun if nobody wants to RP with you. If you could take a moment to give your personal view on a few topics, that'd be great Feel free to go into as much or as little depth as you want with your answers! Every bit helps! 1) I'm trying to more or less keep Ryoko's parents the same. Originally, her father was a Hyur, and a Lominsan Sailor. Her mother was a Gridanian Miqo'te he met during his travels, who then died from complications during childbirth. I feel like this was already a borderline subject when her father was Lominsan, but what if he was Ishgardian? Still plausible, or completely insane? Would Ishgard, specifically House Fortemps, ever tolerate one of it's own 'mingling' with an outsider, and one of another race? 2) What do you think of the idea of Ishgard pursuing heretics beyond it's own borders? As in, sending agents to chase them through the Shroud and beyond, with or without the approval of local authorities? Seems to me like they would certainly have the means to do it. They're a very bold people, so they'd likely have the audacity to do it. And being religious zealots, I doubt they'd ever adopt a policy of 'out of sight, out of mind'. 3) As a devout worshiper of Halone, could I use ice magic? Or would that still be heresy? I mean, obviously not though thaumaturgy, but might there be other means of controlling ice? Perhaps through conjury, or arcanima? For that matter, would Ishgardians even associate with either of those fields of magic? 4) (Assuming you actually support the idea to begin with) Suppose you were an Ishgardian witch hunter, tracking heretics at large, what would your go-to combat outfit look like? Black for night ops? White for arctic ops? Blue&Gold/Blue&Silver to display your Ishgardian pride? Or something else entirely? 5) What's a more mundane job I could start as, that could lead into witch hunter? Pre-retcon, I was working as a Maelstrom inspector with the Port Authority, trying to work my way up to Field Officer. I want to do something similar. Right now the plan is to start off as Assistant to the Witch Hunter, then work my way up to Assistant Witch Hunter! These questions will honestly lead to more questions, I'm sure, so Thanks!
  21. That takes me back... back to roughly November of 2008, if I recall correctly. I really miss the feeling of magic and wonder I used to get from that game... Anyway, the nickelharpa is such a superb instrument, I really wish more games would make use of it. This is the song I've actually listened to a couple of times while writing Ryoko's new (retcon'd) wiki: Yxt9iv1fyRI And this was the inspiration for her, pre-retcon Ndl10rOpOu4 edit: Wow, I already posted in this thread. On the previous page, even. Did not remember doing that...
  22. They could very well be "needle guns" (IE: first/Zero generation Bolt-Action rifles) which pretty much keep in line with the technology cap of papercartidges. This does mean that advanced Rifling in general may not be the stage they're at, at least if paper cartridges are the standard. That said, Rifling has existed since the 15th century as an extreme luxury as very few really understood its true function and effects and how to alter existing techniques. It wasn't commonplace as a standard knowledge or development technique until the 19th century. An excellent observation! Certainly something to consider. Now, I'm wondering about the spread of that technology. Specifically, in regards to Ishgard. The Ishgardians have shown that they make very liberal use of bombards (the cannon, not the creature) and harpoon guns. I'm wondering if they also have personal firearms, but maybe don't display them as prominently as the Lominsans?
  23. Because the Grand Companies are currently lead by feeble-minded fools who can't distinguish proper governance from their own asses. a.k.a. exactly what Gaius tried to warn us about.
  24. If anyone sees harassing someone to the point of being blacklisted or blocked on some website/game as "winning", they are at a level of pathetic that I can't comprehend. That's harsh, broseph. I mean, I'd try to explain the circumstances surrounding my involvement in that sort of thing, but it's my experience that first impressions are usually permanent so... eh, it's not the first time somebody's held the opinion that I was pathetic. So I guess we'll just roll with that. No no, I am not saying that you are pathetic. I am saying people who intentionally harass others, and are then blacklisted and think highly of themselves for it, are pathetic. So unless you're running around purposefully getting blacklisted for harassment, or enjoying getting blacklisted for harassment, it doesn't apply to you. ... I see. I'm sorry, frontlines has me all riled up. I'm trying to grind to rank 40 and... it's been a long day. I hate Gridania so much right now...
  25. The Coral Tower has a rack of bolt-action rifles in it. The modelers may have been trying to make muskets, but those are absolutely bolt-action rifles and so long as those are in the game, I'll maintain that rifling technology exists in Limsa, if not all of Eorzea.
