Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Zhavi replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Your name is the shit. Seriously. I would totes steal that name from you, if I could figure out a good use for it. It's like in books sometimes, how you see a character name and you're like 'how did that author come up with that? It's perfect!' That's how I feel about your name. Good job. -
Hell, do something different. Have a series of conversations between different denizens about your character. Use written notes, or actions done in public. Weave together a profile from bits and bobs, perhaps with a disclaimer that it's in a limited narrative. Buck the system. Do something that works for you.

After I told a friend about my discovery of Postmodern Jukebox (just now?! is the general consensus), he started laying all the electroswing I haven't heard on me. And now I'm obsessing again. Ahaha, like I ever stopped. <3 Caravan Palace.

I love reading what you have to say. I don't always agree with you, but I think you always bring something new and well thought out to the table, and I very much appreciate seeing it! Plus you're fun to talk to in chat, so cheers for being cool beans! -
Brindle saw. Brindle heard Styrm admit to knowing Lalataru, to not knowing where he was, to being just as lost and out of sorts as Brindle was himself. Didn't matter. Didn't matter with the man standing there, hand shoved in his coat, what with Brindle still bruised and sore from the last round of questions he'd endured. They was in a tangle, right sure, and he didn't know which way he was hanging off it, trapped fly to web as he was. What choice did he have then? What choice but the grace given to him as a street rat with the most practice in one thing? Running. With a curse and a snarl, he took to his heels, dashing away from both men, legs pumping and lungs heaving. He might not have Zhi's climbing skills, but he knew how to make himself scarce. He just prayed he could run fast enough to lose the roe and the stranger.

Sounds like great potential for Mystery Science Theater 3000 style watching with friends and maybe a drinking game. edit - to clarify, I'm watching it. Just not in the theater.

Warren, I am your fangirl. Forever. You can't get rid of me. I heart your writing, SO THERE. -
Of course you're beyond disappointed. You've gone from being someone who meant something and who mattered to just another joe schmoe. However, I want to point to one little line in your post: Even your first great success took you awhile. But more than that, I think it's important you don't lose sight of something that is fundamental to being someone others seek out for rp: PUT THE RP FIRST. Focus on making an interesting character. Focus on making that character have agency. Focus on other interesting characters. Shift the spotlight away from you and onto others who you want to write with. RP is a team sport, and by being a team player you have a much higher chance of people taking notice of you. Why? If you make other people feel special, they will appreciate you. When someone appreciates you, they're more likely to pay attention to you and recognize all the special things that make you you, and that only you can bring to the table. So, ditch the attitude (because it is one, and I say that because I recognize it because I've had it before) and focus on the rp first, and other people first. By actively doing that, I bet you'll find your groove in no time.

I am addicted to EVE news. I love it from a distance. A very big distance.

About a month ago I locked my keys in the car. The car was still running. .... that was not a great night.

Eyyy, grats on your shiny new tags, and here's to as much stressless moderation as possible! Yay new mods! THAT GOES TO YOU TOO, KYLIN. I didn't mean to break the combo am I even supposed to be posting in here?! I'm sorry!

Brindle spooked, looked past Styrm, and took a few steps back even as his attention returned to the big roe in fits. At once, Brindle's eyes widened, and his full attention focused upon Styrm. "Yer 'im, yer th' -- Lalataru's strongarm, ye are, oh, oh feck!" And he was backing up, backing away, looking as if he was quite expecting the weapons to come out.

lol! Sorry to disappoint but he is Miqo'te. forever

The name Afk Vodka made me think of a roe who holds his liquor well and doesn't take life too seriously, so, that's how I'm going to think of your character forever.

Oh man, I only got it just recently so I'm in the check-it-all-the-time!!! stage. Still buying up new toys to see all the different poses and animations. SO CUTE. It's such a wonderful little five minute destresser.

Something about that blue hair makes her skin look sunburned. I'd say either brown, or a shade or two darker on the blue hair (or, alternatively, a less pink skintone).

Rumors don't need to be gossipy to contribute -- least, that's not how I look at it. I usually include things that detail my character's way of looking at someone that could be misinterpreted, misunderstood, or repeated incorrectly by someone else. For the latter, given enough repeats it's pretty much guaranteed. Don't overthink the word "rumor" too -- I've seen people use it as a place to have their characters share observations or feelings about other characters.

I can't stop playing. Why is this game so addicting. Why. WHY ARE THEY SO FREAKING CUTE. WHY DO THEY HAVE VISIBLE BUTTHOLES. WHY WON'T THEY GIVE ME MORE GOLD FISH. Do you play? Please say yes. I don't want to go to reddit but OMG THE KITTIES. Discuss.

godspeed all you poor sods who get picked. JUST REMEMBER I STILL LOVE YOU. (for reals though, kudos to y'all, modding is tough and this board can be on the unforgiving side) -

Setoh is one of those people I always pay attention to, and whose writing I invariably wind up stalking: he does shady shit with style, combining entertainment value and realism in a way that comes out balanced without being too heavy on the details (there are times in rp where realism can override the fun value, but I've never seen that from him). I've never gotten to rp with him as much as I wanted, but that has never stopped me from massive amounts of admiration! -
Very much yes, thanks so much Sounsyy!

Heyo! I have a friend I recently convinced to buy the game. He started a Gladiator, and was entranced by the gladiator gear with clear Roman influence; he enjoys Roman history. He asked me if there was any way he could roleplay a true-to-style Roman gladiator from somewhere in Hydaelyn who was raised as a slave trained to fight in gladatorial matches that wouldn't be lorebreaking and...I have no idea. Please help with advice and knowledge!

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Zhavi replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
I constantly worry that I'm boring, that my characters aren't compelling enough and my plots are uninteresting. Then on top of that, I constantly worry that my longterm rp partners will give up on me because of my constant in and out activity. I always want to rp more, but that drive isn't always there depending on rl -- so it comes down to people being willing to put up with that because they like my writing or characters (or me, as a rp partner). But what if it's not good enough? What if I get boring or cliche? What if my self-imposed standards of quality slip? What if my characters fail to grow or fall into a rut of bad dialogue and overgrown prose? What if I'm not good enough? Eugh. At least I'm not alone! It's so easy to look at the things others have said in this thread (whose writing I know) and think 'oh, what do you have to worry about? You're an amazing writer, and your rp rocks!' ...sometimes impossible to say that to myself. We're all the same in that, aren't we? (out of the people posting here, anyways)
