Welcome to Balmung and MMO RP! People would be more than willing to accept a newbie character. I would advise you to be persistent as your character establishes contacts/relationships. Getting started can sometimes be a challenge, especially if you're used to easier 1-on-1 formats. You can work on a wiki if you already have a character idea on mind. Personally, I tend to start with a general concept and develop my character as I play them, but that's definitely a personal preference. I didn't have a wiki page until at least a year after starting to RP here. If you have any questions or need some starting contacts, feel free to add me or poke me in game, as Kinono Kino!

I know it's not the ideal thing but if you're looking for enemies, Kinono is unflinching in her hatred of voidkin and cultists. Obviously not something I'll push on people without warning though!

If you give people a section in your wiki to! That's what I'm encouraging anyway I had a section for years until just a couple days ago. I removed it bevause it never saw activity and the big blank section made me self conscious. I was starting to think it was some vestigial organ part of wiki formatting that no one actually used.

It was a dev comment a while back ago, if I remember correctly. I'm having trouble finding the exact post, but I do remember specifically when it first came up. It's been hinted at a few times in-game, but we haven't been shown anything absolutely blatant. The Wanderer's Palace (hard) quest alludes to it, thought it could be argued they were referring to homosexuality (which, at the very least, is common enough in Limsa that one NPC speaks of it openly). And of course, the case of Hilda, which again, is more classist than racist, I'd say.

I'm not sure about the sounds of that first one... Everyone knows Lalafell taste best marinated. Meddling, though, is something I can always get behind! Hey all! I've been around/RPing since launch but, as it turns out, I'm super bad at meeting new people, so I'm putting this out there just in case there's any one looking for a new friend/enemy/miscellaneous drama partner. I'm open to either in-game RP, or play-by-posts on here or on Skype if you want something more relaxed. My timezone is PST and I'm kind of a night-owl at that, so I am typically most active later at night. Kinono is a generally cheerful and motherly Dunesfolk who loves bad jokes and hates cultists. She considers herself a retired adventurer, and as such has a fairly wide (if utilitarian) amount of knowledge on topics magical and martial. For the record, a lot of people I know RP on PS4. All you need is a cheap USB keyboard, which, last I checked, can be had ~$10, maybe even less! You can even use a Bluetooth keyboard for a bit more, if you felt like sitting back on your couch to do it.

When you get upset over a song referencing real-life locations because now it can't be your character's theme song.

While it doesn't exactly match any of your looking-for's, part of Kino's backstory is that she stowed away on a pirate ship shortly after the Calamity to get from Thanalan to Linda Lominsa, but was discovered. If for any reason you felt like having our characters retroactively acquainted, that might be fun.

The majority of people (estimated... Not like I took a census or anything) tend to just roleplay as the class and not the job, while still playing as that job. That's not to say you can't, just know that, according to lore, most of these jobs are extremely difficult to actually be, if not genuinely impossible. To use a really strained example, imagine meeting someone in real life who claimed to be an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh. Sure, they may be telling the truth, but are you likely to believe them? Probably not. That's what the average person would think responding to any non-padjal claiming to be a White Mage.

Reviving a deadish thread for a related question! So, magic and foci. Most magic needs foci. If not all. Okay. So what exactly is happening when a dark knight just flat-out fires aether out of their hand? Because I'm pretty sure that's magic and I'm pretty sure they're not channeling it through their sword. Look at Power Slash and Salted Earth's animations; both skills involve the dark knight pretty much setting aside their weapon to shoot aether straight from their hand. So... Is the dark knight simply using the sword as a focus but not using it as a "launch point?" Or is the small distance shown for skills like Power Slash short enough that you don't "need" focus? Could a fully trained dark knight who has dropped their sword in the heat of battle still shoot aether out of their hands? Inquiring minds need to know.

Hello all! My character, Kinono Kino has heard of dark knights and rumours of dark knights and wants very badly to try and be one. Info on Kinono can be found here, though it's not terribly up to date or fun to read, mostly because formatting a wiki page isn't my idea of fun. Apologies! Ideally, I'd prefer the profession to be presented as it is presented in the story, with powers driven by emotion and not just "dark magic" or whatever. Kinono is pretty much open to injury, but I dunno why you'd want to! She's generally pretty pacifistic these days, so unless your character is just bein' mean (not really met a lot of those), or she just so happens to be an innocent bystander to another conflict, it probably won't really happen. Death... Maybe, but probably not right now. If she died, I'd want to start again as someone totally different but I'm not interested in playing any other race right now.

It would be nice but I don't recall an event set being dyable Lightning stuff is dyeable now, right? It just took a while. Wait, and hold out hope! The Valentione's set too, was made dyable nearly an entire year after it first came out. The Halloween set that was just added came already dyable. It's more than possible!

It might be a bit cheesy and immersion breaking for some, but I typically use the wind-up Sultana to represent Kinono's daughter during RP. It seems a nice compromise between "just pretend there's a baby here" and playing a whole other alt simultaneously. Before that, Kinono made use of a little servitor mammet pretty regularly, and I even made sure to TaLk★LiKe★ThIs whenever it had to speak.

No, I agree. Not much really offends me, but it seems strange to me that people were claiming that he was changed to protect the American homophobes and... considering he seemed to be written as a gay stereotype from a country that has a reputation for being way more homophobic than other first-world countries, I'm just wondering if I missed a step in logic somewhere. For the record, I'm typically against censorship, but when that censorship is covering up hurtful stereotypes, I tend to be a little bit more okay with it.

Wait, where is the "fear of homophobic backlash" stuff coming from? I got the sense that Haurchefant came off as some sort of stereotypical dandy and was editted to be more, you know, a normal person regardless of sexuality. Being offended by that original portrayal would be the opposite of homophobic, would it not?
