I do but it's a very small part of my character's backstory. Ninjas in Othard are kinda not the best people in town because of the whole Karasu/Gekkai thing...and are kinda the reason that Othard/Doma is in the sorry state it is.... But yeah... They are super mediation freaks and pay really close attention to detail. Your character can't be a air head and be a ninja. They are masters of disguise... My character was trained by some...but doesn't fall back on Ninjutsu as his main way of fighting. He will hint at it every so often and I will joke about it OOCly...but yeah. The best Ninjas are RP'd as not being obviously ninjas haha. I think the Rogue's guild is a better choice for RP...but that's just me. I have a ninja, I have a character who fights with knives and is neither a ninja nor rogue's guild, and I have an ex-pirate rogue's guild dude.... So yeah. haha /cries

"Witty" characters, can they be roleplayed by the dumb?
Ashe replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I'm not mathematically inclined or anything like that, but my character is one of those "genius" characters. But I RP him as book-smart with little to no common sense. Now what does that mean...I mean that in terms of personal interactions, his attitude, judgment skills, etc. he's not that smart. (He's the type of guy who will sell his soul to a voidsent just to see what would happen and then ask his friends to help him get out of it when he's bored of it). But when it comes to RPing what he IS knowledgable about, I, as the RPer, took it upon myself to learn as much lore about the stuff as possible so I wouldn't gloss over details. For example, I won't type: /emote gives a long winded explanation on aether and Allag. I would type out the specifics of that explanation, even if it OOCly bores the player I am RPing with xPP I am pretty dedicated to that lore OOCly so I can have my character ICly talk about it. It's more...realistic? A lot of my RP is super specific to that lore and in-game world mechanics that it'd be impossible to just gloss over stuff. -
Is politely correcting someone's grammar/spelling offensive? Why?
Ashe replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
Sometimes I would find it rude and I recognize that I type things strangely sometimes. Some people who RP on PS4s will get that they may type faster than the character-per-second limit on the PS4 making it very difficult to type out things sometimes. I can't copy and paste and change things easily...and I understand there are others who can't either. I should probably also say that I am an editor...like that's my job. To edit books (well, comics...) I am GREAT at nitpicking other people's stuff but when it comes to my own stuff I'm like wheeeee words I don't know lawlz let me write stuff down like a maniac who doesn't know english yaaaay >> I may joke to someone like "omg you wrote that wrong pfffft" but I will never seriously pick at someone in RP. Some people just suck at typing...like me >> -
I prefer context as well. I like setting a scene beforehand so people don't try to stumble over each other trying to figure out how their characters would interact when they literally would have no reason to interact otherwise. Then again, I am huge on planning big, open world events and like setting up crazy things for people to lose their minds over hehe. I've only had ONE interesting random walk up RP (which I didn't even intend for to happen because I was half afk reading other people's rp in the QS)...it ended up with my character days later deciding to sell his soul to voidsent because he was curious to see what would happen (for science!)....like literally, that was the only time I was able to RP with no context.

Hmmm My FC RP's open world all the time. You'll rarely find our members in cities ICly said for advertising. I'll usually take IC interviews in the Bismarck or locations in Ishgard now that that's open but honestly, I don't see the appeal of talking about your adventures in Ul'Dah vs. actually going out and DOING what you're talking about ICly. A lot of people use the QS to talk about all sorts of things--whether it's pick up ERP, plot evil plots, or talk about their adventures. It's a weird place because people will just openly plot the end of the world there sometimes and it's like...okay? How do I take this ICly... If you don't want to RP in Ul'Dah, don't. Make connections and have them meet you somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Make plots that have you go DO something. Right now my FC is ICly heading into the Hinterlands to go do an IC dungeon run because a few of us are scholars interested in lost technologies/magic. It's easier to complain about something like this and do nothing about it rather than trying to change current RP habits. Seriously though, just try it. Ask your usual contacts to meet you somewhere in the middle of nowhere and go on an adventure. It's really fun! Quick Edit: I also think that there are a lot of groups who RP in open-world spaces who do it in closed channels. My group did this for the climb to the hinterlands because we didn't want to spoil stuff for people still going through Heavensward, etc. So it's there but a lot of people don't do it in open channels. If it doesn't spoil stuff, I'll do it in /em because it doesn't really matter too much to me...

1. I prefer open-world RP so when people let me drag them on crazy adventures that almost get them or my character killed and even play with the idea of permadeath...omg. The feels. 2. I like when RP doesn't go as I expected in the sense that something I thought was one thing ends up being something super different. Like I thought this would be one scene and it turns into some super character development stuff. 3. When I am a para-poster, I am always unsure what to do about people who don't do it. I don't feel like changing my style and then I get nervous about the RP. 4. Managing RP on multiple characters gets nerve wracking. My main is the IC leader of my FC (somehow?) and lately I've been super uninterested in RP on him...but there is a responsibility to do so and it gets a little nerve wracking to make him be likable when he really isn't supposed to be. 5. My main wasn't ever intended to be an anti-Ishgard evil butt...but he turned out that way and I'm soooo happy it was fixed in the coolest way possible. 6. I don't like how many male roleplayers portray their female characters who are interested in other women. It's really offensive how most of them make their characters go after every other woman with legs. Just....no. 7. I am hella bored by tavern RP. You'll only ever find me in the QS on any of my characters afk or idly standing there reading other people's RP for fun and maybe...just MAYBE...silently judging. I'd rather go on the adventure than talk about it with others.

"The Dirty Dozen" type Dragoon Unit/team

Hehehehe It's okay... If you guys ever want to plot though, let me know! We need someone to destroy our house so we can ICly move after all. -
"The Dirty Dozen" type Dragoon Unit/team
Ashe replied to Sylastair's topic in Chronicled Connections
I clicked on this 'cause I saw "inglorious basterds" and "dragoons" in the title. As someone who had to study that film...and how those guys operated (completely out of the law and for no regard for anything) I am not sure that the Holy See would be super happy about it xPP There are less reasons to be Xenophobic now...so it'd make more sense if your group were dragoons acting outside of the Holy See on their own (which could be fun in its own way). That and it would depend on what timeline you are RPing on. If you are post-HW this may not make soooo much sense. My suggestion would be careful and plan carefully...and good luck! Incidentally, my main is not a Dragoon (he's a non-Ysayle heretic/disturber of peace). (and if this works and you want to hunt an entire FC full of exiles/heretics let me know~ I got an FC just for that hehehe) -
They do. Very briefly. But only his eyes. It was

I am looking to level an alt who would be part of the rogues' guild. He isn't readily available for RP because...gotta do the leveling part first...but yeah. I am working on him...since I am super in love with the rogues' guild I wanted an alt to be one of them xPP If you're willing to wait/plot a bit with me first, I can work something out!

Hi, friend! (Are you doing favors for me and Adeya? Will we get to save you from certain death...????) That's easy.... You'll get pushed off a cliff...though IN Ishgard you may have to go through trial by combat if you so choose to do so. Post MSQ....others have pointed that out >> Uuuuh, if you want to involve your FC in some stuff, we can help you work through stuff too. Ishgard (specifically getting arrested and almost killed) is what we're good at!! If this friend is Adeya--we are RPing post MSQ

Ah, didn't say this in my PM reply--I am also Pacific US time (California) and tend to stay up late--like right now. So that's not too problematic for me.

Ashe is a vengeful, cold-hearted black mage who would be able to~ My lore speciality is in aether and Allag, so I could help with some stuff! (By speciality I mean what I know most about because I made a crazy black mage obsessed with reverse engineering Allagan technology >>) I stay up late on weekends and weeknights 'cause I am weird. I am US pacific time.... -8? or something like that? I donno. Ashe's wiki is in my signature though, if you're interested. Read up and send me a pm if you want! ...I'm in the same LS as you btw if it's Ishgard RP >>

Ooooooh. Strangely enough, I was thinking about putting my main (Ashe) through some sort of arranged marriage plot--one that he is extremely unhappy about mind you. (thank you for stressing no erp btw, hence why I am suggesting it). My character's house is not known for their dragoons, but for their weapon's technology and research. They produce one or two dragoons, but since the head of the house is more of a intellectual now that Ashe's father is not the head, they are focused and known for that. While they are slightly war related, Ashe is currently (forced) to study aether currents and Allagan-based technology fragments for them. He was adopted back in...(long story, it's on wiki and that page that was linked in one reply). I don't have an LS specifically for his house because I never really thought to expand it before...I have an LS for my personal contacts for RP though...as well as one for long-distance communication that my FC uses but we have people not in our FC in it. Our FC harbors exiles and heretics...Ashe isn't exactly pro-Ishgard or pro-war efforts in the slightest... Anyways...if you're interested, contact me.

Want to bump this up again... looking for RP contacts in general really...so yeah >.<

Welcome!!! Balmung is fun! Book lover characters are a super plus! Hit me up if you ever want to RP, want help with something, etc.

I tried this and it did not work well...I love Allagan lore and one of my characters is like...obsessively obsessed with their technology and collects the fragments from Dalamud like a mad man. I had the "brilliant idea" of trying to do something similar to the Crystal Tower miqo'te guy with a character (that's why my Au Ra is a summoner...'cause I wanted the Allagan summoner robes on my once-Hyur). It was really difficult. I only rp'd with my FC mates but I immediately realized that somehow conveying the Allagan memories from the genetic manipulation in ancestors was just...no. Long story short...it's not IMPOSSIBLE to happen (there's plenty of lore bits that could be used to make up as to why your character) but very unlikely. You could try it. I tried it and failed. ....I later fantasia and name changed my Allagan to my Au Ra xPP

I think the character "lock" issue comes from SE not taking into account how much server space they would need. I remember reading that when 2.0 launched, the servers for NA broke almost instantly because they didn't account for the size they would actually need. The game has 4 million players, the majority of the US players are on the Aether data center across two servers and then on the other servers still... I've paid transfer for alts to Balmung...it's not the end of the world. I don't NEED an alt and I recognize that I am kind of just taking up a spot of a first-time player making alts at maint (which is not possible now btw...I tried to make another alt recently and it did not work). So yeah...$18 isn't that bad. SE probably didn't take into account the server space actually needed but they're slowly fixing it I think? HW just dropped a month ago...give it time. 2.0 drop was like this. 1.0 was even worse...(1.0 on release wasn't even a game...it was like...stand there and do nothing in pretty graphics simulator). .... That's all I'll add >>

Yup! And we're setting off on some IC dungeon diving for HW content and a lot of open world RP in Dravania!!! We're all a little crazy but we don't bite >.< ...maybe just stab your hand a bit >>

Player-made Ishgardian Noble Houses Directory
Ashe replied to Blue's topic in Chronicled Connections
Server: Balmung Noble House Name: Haton Pledging/Related/Serving to High House: Fortemps Description: A minor noble house in Ishgard under/pledged to house Fortemps. In addition to producing one dragoon to serve the Holy See every generation (said Dragoon is next in line to inherit the house), they are a family of weapons experts and military strategy. They research, develop, and (while working with the Manufactory) produce leading technologies and weapons in the fight against the dragons. They are known for their upstanding loyalty and military knowledge. Included Races: Wildwood Elezen (only) Members: Asheloux Thalantos Haton (PC) Theosoix Haton (NPC/PC--next leader) Oscarlet Haton (NPC--leader of the house. Not a dragoon. Took over from Arthurioux) Arthurioux Thalantos Haton (deceased, was supposed to inherit instead of Oscarlet) Footnotes: My character was recently adopted back into his family. I have an alt for Theosoix made but never logged in on him. Open to have more people join if they want...just ask me first. Currently conducting a lot of Aether research and allowing Asheloux to continue to develop his weapons for Ishgard. -
You'd be surprised. Wait is this actually a thing? /cries

balmung Scholar and Explosives Expert Seeking Contacts
Ashe replied to Kiipa Nulstat's topic in Chronicled Connections
I sent you a pm. -
I play the game in Japanese... There are SOME differences in the lore (specifically the terms used to refer to jobs, groups of people--scions are 暁...which means dawn--and some other minor things). but it is all generally the same. For Domans speaking another language...it never really occurred to me. Their Japanese is a tad bit more...archaic if anything? But not a completely different language. Only time I've seen a different language was with the dragons...
