1. I use the wind-up Leviathan as Shoshopu's Leviathan-egi, since SE still hasn't coughed up one of those yet. I also tend to use the accompaniment nodes to represent the shield generators used for the Spellguard tournament.
2. Hello, everyone! Spellguard is scheduled for tomorrow night! However, tomorrow's event will be run by Zigovali Rigovali, Shoshopu's husband. I'll be visiting my family out of town tomorrow for a late Thanksgiving and I'd feel kind of lame dragging my desktop over there for two visits in a row (the October 27 event) instead of spending time with them Have fun tomorrow night!
3. I feel like a lack of evidence shouldn't be taken as evidence to a lack thereof. Hygiene is one of those things that's just overlooked in a lot of stories, like characters needing to use the bathroom or something. As for my characters, I feel like Shoshopu probably doesn't bathe more often than once every couple days. Bathing daily was probably far from convenient for her family growing up (given that they live on tents on top of tortoises and wander around the desert) but it's probably easier to hunt when you're not super stank. Not that she was one of the hunters, but her mother was from a merchant family too and they probably have higher standards that were imparted to her as well. My elezen Eaubront probably at least runs some water through his hair as close to daily as possible. He's kind of vain that way and likes to keep it nice. Only tangentially related but I'd love to him to have a nice beard but the elezen don't have many good options there if you're not using the Old face... at the same time there's no shaving razors laying around, but you can still take all the smooth-faced NPCs running around as evidence that shaving is a common thing.
4. Hey, all. Sorry this is only a couple hours' notice, but I've been pretty busy since I got home tonight. Between school and... well, school (student teaching + the college stuff that goes with it) I've had kind of a rough week, so I'm calling Spellguard off for tonight to take a little mental health break. Just being honest about it because I really value and appreciate you guys who come out every fortnight for this event. I'm so sorry to disappoint you guys, but right now Spellguard is basically just managed by only myself and I just need the rest tonight. you all, see you November 24!
5. Rinadin's winning streak was finally ended tonight in a three-way magic melee! All three teams fought long and hard, but tonight's champions are... Mayana Yana & Y'uraq Tia! Congratulations! Our next tournament is set for November 10! See you there!
6. All Saint's Wake is upon us this Spellguard night! As per tradition, tonight's prize will be supplemented by something specially spooky! Feel free to come in costume!
7. For the third fortnight in a row, Rinadin Dinwell and her teammate have seized victory in Spellguard! Congratulations to Rinadin Dinwell & Aster Ozerov! Next Spellguard is October 27th! I'm pretty sure that it'll be during All Saint's Wake, so come prepared!!
8. Reminder that Spellguard is tonight in a couple hours, with the special rolling rules as described above!
9. The next Spellguard tournament is set for tomorrow... Friday the 13th! Normally, Friday the 13th (especially during the month of All Saint's Wake) is considered a day of ill omens and bad luck, but... perhaps at Spellguard your luck may turn around? *For this event only, Spellguard will be using the Reverse rule! Low rolls will beat high rolls! If you're one of those folks who never seems to be able to roll high, tomorrow night may just be your night.
10. Congratulations to tonight's Champion Spellguardians, Rinadin Dinwell and Tharsis Tor! Our next tournament is scheduled for September 29th! See you then!
11. Congratulations to tonight's Champion Spellguardians, Rinadin Dinwell and Tehfee Thetre! Our next tournament is scheduled for September 15th! See you then!
12. Just a little bump for Spellguard, in two and a half hours!
13. Three teams entered tonight, so we had one of our triad formation tournaments! Tonight's champions are Edda Vincents & Leonnaux Altoix! Congratulations! Our next tournament is scheduled for September 1st!
14. Spellguard's on in 30 minutes! We could use some more participants!
15. Spellguard is on tonight in about five hours! In celebration of the Moonfire Faire, this week's champions will receive an additional special prize!
16. Sorry for the radio silence tonight and this delayed announcement. I had to take the night shift at work tonight for a coworker and had a friend camp out the event site for me and keep me updated on Discord, to sort of usher people till I got home. I was lead to believe nobody had showed up anyway, at least not enough to host a tournament tonight, so I resigned myself to call it off for the week and then proceeded to completely forget to post here reflecting as such once I got home. I apologize! That's completely on me. I won't be working weekdays at all for basically the rest of the year so this won't happen again. Spellguard will continue as scheduled on August 18!!
17. Spellguard tonight was a blast! As three teams entered, we employed our 1v1v1 formation! Tonight's champions are newcomers Fiona Delaine and Mareth Ravenlocke! Congrats! Our next tournament is the first Friday of August, the 4th! Same time, same place! See you there!
18. Spellguard is tonight! In about 3 hours! Bring a friend and let's sling some spells!
19. The Qestir do seem to have their own written language as shown in one of the Reunion sidequest lines. Traders are given a "piece of vellum with Qestiri markings" to show that they're allowed to trade in Reunion. Whether this shows that the Qestir allow for written words, or if it's simply an exception to accommodate foreign traders is up for interpretation. Oddly enough, I read into that as being more as having, like... a wax seal of approval. There isn't actually Qestir language in long-form there, just them putting their stamp of approval on someone being there. More like a signature more than anything else, if that makes sense. This is how Fyrilsunn and I interpreted it as well. He has a Qestir alt, and I'm sure if he wasn't out of town he'd have posted in this thread already. I'll let him know about it so he can put in his two cents for his own character. To me, since it says "Qestir markings" and not "Qestir writing" or "in Qestir", it's probably just a symbol, sigil or stamp or something. Literally just a symbol to accommodate the situation and nothing more.
20. Oof. I guess people are still busy with all that new content! Spellguard will continue as scheduled on the 21st, but for now, if you hurry you might catch Shoshopu sparring with a friend! See you in a couple weeks!
21. Spellguard is on for tonight in about an hour and a half! First tournament since Stormblood launch, hope to see you there!
22. Just got off work, and Fyrilsunn has informed me that I disconnected just before he left the house to pick me up. The queue's at about 3k right now and the ETA is at least a couple hours, so unfortunately I'm going to have to call off Spellguard this week. The tournament will pick up at the next scheduled date, July 7! See you then!! edit: oh, and now that I'm home it seems that I've encountered a lobby server error. So... yeah, probably not going to be logged back in until tomorrow. orz
23. Spellguard is on for tonight, when I get home from work! ... provided that I'm logged in when I get home. By 10 PM the login queue itself is longer than most Spellguard tournaments, so please watch this thread for updates tonight as to Spellguard's status (or check my online status ingame). Thank you!
24. From what somebody in one of my Discord servers told me, if you've gotten the 6 GB download, then you're done-- apparently they've been gradually patching in the remaining assets since 3.3 or so. I'd keep an eye out anyway just in case, but if there's still not another download and only five and a half hours left to go, I doubt there's going to be another one.
25. Whew! Tonight was a long one, with six teams and three rounds! A lot of new faces out here tonight, one of which rose to the top! Congratulations to Narval Moks & Josiah Covey! Our next tournament is on June 23! Same time, same place!
