If it was decided we would only be allowed to play NPC-tier characters, I would first laugh at them for having the kind of hubris it takes to think that they get to decide how we're going to play and continue to play my characters who are well above the average commoner without any change. Then, as a joke, I would say "Yes, my characters are NPC-tier. Oh hey, those absurdly-powerful characters that a DM uses to murder the party are NPCs too."

Well, the concept intrigued me because one of the biggest problems I'm having with tech'ing out Chao the way she's supposed to be is that in other settings, she relied heavily on having magitek hammerspace which there's like, precisely zero precedent for in the lore. So your ring interests me greatly, and she might have to find reason to pay a visit. (Read: I need to create a reason for her to go back to Ul'dah now >< )

Yeah, but no. I love me the shit out of some stories where everyone bands together to destroy the greater menace, but Eorzea is about as banded together as a pack of kindergarteners, and just slightly less threatening. And as someone who loves those kinds of tales and plays a character who has, in another setting, explicitly made the Genghis/Thanatos gambit to unite two separate worlds for the preservation of the future, the fact that Eorzea hasn't united into a single front of solidarity makes me want to line up every single person in a position of power who has not done everything within that power to make a united Eorzea happen and just run down the several-miles-long line, slapping the everloving goose shit out of all of them. Further, because of the aforementioned love of the Gondor Calls for Aid trope, the betrayal of the Crystal Braves cut me to the core and has landed every one of those blue-coated shitbags (except Ol' Eyepatch) on my death list. If some part of 3.x doesn't involve hunting down and executing every last one of those oathbreakers, or at least doesn't see them dying horribly as a side effect of the various quests, I'll be sorely disappointed. /dismountssoapbox

I once had a roe whose friend/guildie didn't agree with the way Chao handled technology come and sit on me while I was having a discussion with another person about scribing a short magitek manuscript. Both she and I ignored the overgrown shitbag until he pissed off, so that's typically become the way that I handle it now. People screw with me, I disregard their existence and toss their names straight to the blacklist.

I'm sure it's not what you have in mind, but I already break the combat system with Chao in that she can fistfight and cast magic at the same time after extensive and lengthy training to cast spells faster and on the move.

As a DRG main, we really are not as amazing-looking as that trailer showed. I watched those precision-guided missile'goons lambasting into dragons at close to the speed of sound and I looked at R'tahz and I was like "you're a fucking child playing with a stick next to these guys. Queue incoming Level in Badass."

I think Doma is a smoldering ruin these days. Unless SE has been using some alternative version of 'raze' to describe what Garlemald did to them for their revolution attempt.
