  1. I'd also like to sign Xavarian Mystrife up for this mess, if it could still be a thing. It's pretty perfect, considering he has like no trust for Moogles, and would completely expect them to maybe send him some random letter from someone meant for someone else. Or send out something strange to mess with people. ... At the same time, he's too curious to let a letter go unreplied to, so this could be a neat arrangement. I'll note that Xavarian (if possible) wouldn't reveal his identity at first, had he a choice, but I personally don't mind if he's anon or not. (I'm not quite sure if the anon part is only IC or OOC?) But if a second 'round of matching' happens, I'd be interested!
  2. Somewhere in the Black Shroud... The Crier turns with a grin to the approaching Elezen, and dips his head in return when bowed to. Listening politely to the man, the letter is taken between the Crier's fingers, and he only speaks when his brief company is through. "Ah, that they may~ I will certainly relay the sentiments by mouth and word, sir." The letter is given a gentle wave, as though that were somehow assuring. "Thank you, and peace be to your evening as well~" Another head bow is exchanged for the more courtly one of his company, before the Crier watches the mysterious man away into the woods. When he is out of sight, and relatively out of earshot, the Crier thoughtfully eyes the letter. The ever curious dilemma of, well, being ever curious. What could it say...? But no, the Mystrifes don't hire him for snooping. They'd find out if he were snooping. Instead, he tucks the letter safely away in just the pocket meant for keeping letters uncrinkled, (they are practical, you know) before seeing to its soon delivery to his employer. (( Certainly! Forum RP is perfectly fine. I'll send a PM your way soon, unless you wanted to start a thread somewhere yourself, to which I'll just jump on it. Thanks for the interest!))
  3. I'm basically just restating, but here's a bit more detail on what the other's have already said. :> For lower levels, if you can stay on top of it, using Transpose like that might help you either regain MP quicker, or do more fire damage. In higher levels, though, you'll get moves that give you a full stack of 3 Astral Fire or Umbral Ice regardless of what state you were in prior to the move, so it is like a built in (badass) Transpose. With those in mind, you won't necessarily need to use Transpose to swap over during a fight. It depends on the time it takes for you to deplete your MP, and the recast time on Transpose. Since you wouldn't want to be stuck without it when your MP is gone, as that would result in a lot more time lost DPS wise, just gauge if using it multiple times works out for you. I'd say try it out, and see how it goes. At lower levels, it's likely not as important, but also a good time for testing. Ultimately, I figure it depends on the situation, especially since the full stacks you'll get from a single spell (as opposed to just 1 of either given by transpose) result in faster cast time of the opposing element, so once you hit that level in BLM you'll switch up the rotation. At that point down the line you'll be using Blizard III when your MP is shot from all the fire spam to replenish, instead of transpose, most likely.
  4. Traveling along the streets of various cities, settlements, and lands is a.. notable 'gentleman'. An Elezen with an uncertain clan by appearance (his deep brown skin with short, messy dirty-blonde hair hiding beneath a wide brimmed hat, and blue eyes make it anyone's guess whether he is a Duskwight or a Wildwood), wanders about with written notice and verbal message alike. He gives the friendly disposition of what might a 'toned down bard' would, wearing clothing somewhat fancy, but practical, as he'd vehemently insist.. or maybe just to someone with an over-fondness of well-tailored, durable vests and numerous, copious pockets. Bright reds and earthy browns abound in his aesthetic choices, as do several well-smithed daggers hidden along his belts in leather sheathes. However, he seems friendly enough. Smiling and speaking loud and clear to those who come to listen to him, he treats everyone with a lively cadence; on close inspection, it appears that he's wearing something beneath his wide-brimmed hat which partially covers his ears.. but to any replies he gets, he seems to hear them just fine. "Greetings have you, fair folks of all sorts~ I am here to share the knowledge and resource of my employer, a highly skilled Scribe, willing to write up any tale, letter, tome, document, will, writ or more you may seek to have down upon page~ The extent of his services span about any sort of literary possibility that comes to mind, from mere letters and notices, to signage for merchantry. What's more, he creates tomes and books of all sorts, binding the pages by his own hand to your wishes, should a book of your deeds or findings be something you seek require~ Or even custom grimoires fit for novices to masters of Arcanima may be made or mended upon request. He is quite apt at taking anything down word for word, or transcribing what you say and 'writing for a different audience', should you desire~ And beyond all that, he can scribe in any number of penmanship styles or likenesses, down to its exactness~ Should you find want of such service, speak with me to set up a meetin' may you prefer word of mouth, or take a request to fill and send it away by post, so he will reply to you in letter. If ya like the more personal approach, you can find the man himself, at ward 3, plot 10 in the Mist, working at the Eagle and Quill bookstore~ Thank ya kindly for your ears!"
  5. Gosh you have so many people, I almost feel bad adding on. But so long as it's still fun when you get to this point, I'd definitely be down for some RP. :> Xavarian Mystrife Defining Thing: Seeking Knowledge in the Unknown (which is more conceptual than anything, so if that doesn't work, then: 'Unseen Persistence through Fragility') 1) A riddle on translucent parchment. 2) A young raven. 3) An intricate, black and gold tome. 4) A borzoi dog. 5) An over-aspected crystal.
  6. I was JUST about to post something like this. I, on the other hand, am typically always on the nub end of the spectrum. I've not broken too far into end-game yet, and am also not a big dungeon runner unless there's something in said dungeon I really want. ... Typically for glamour. *sweats* But that said, I always inform people of this immediately. Say hello, tell them I'm new, that I've never done this before, and that I have a spotty connection and might fall behind at times. (my literal 7 FPS average makes me wonder how the heck I even survive.) Most of the time I get 'its cool' or 'thanks for the heads up'. And most of the time it actually goes pretty well. But then there are the times during a fight which has specific mechanics to it, and no one explains them. When I ask, and then nothing. Usually it takes a wipe or two for them to start speaking up, if they do, though I've once had a tank that was so incredibly insistent on being silent, and not waiting for anyone, that he'd just run ahead and continue to die before anyone else could keep up with him. I mean, I feel bad that I can't always keep up right with the group, but I do try my damnedest to make it clear where I stand so everyone knows. I also listen to directions given. What gets me is when people ignore communicating to the point where no one can move forward. Or where everyone just gives up before the final boss due to not listening to the directions given. When I, the total nub with the unfortunate movespeed of a slug in comparison, have to pick up their slack (if I even can) it's a pretty sad day.
  7. Yes, good. By our powers combined, no text wall will be too great. I'm sorry. But yeah! I'd be totally willing to have our characters meet sometime when you're ready. I also know how that goes, because I wanted to get my main pretty up there in levels before I started RPing too, even though I knew RP would be my main focus in the game. My character wouldn't even ICly be on that skill par. I just really wanted a handle on the lore first, so I completely understand wanting to wait. And holy crap. Being at the same pace as someone would be, both amazing and a bit unfortunate for them. Slow internet is always such a pain. :< Finally, both facets of physics are neat. *u* I'm actually a major in Philosophy (among other things), which might at a glance seem odd to put next to physics, but I feel they're somewhat interested in the same things. Like how the world / universe works, and the 'truth' about stuff. I've always found physics to be amazingly interesting, (and psychology too!) but I could only take so many classes if I wanted to get degrees in anything, so alas. That said, I'm second-hand excited for you to get into it more, especially if you like the subjects.
  8. Yeee, a fellow rambler. Let us type into the abyss together. I'm glad you finally made it in, and with alts to boot! I've got a dorky duskwight mage who's all about magic, scribery, books, riddles, wandering around like a tart, ruins, artifacts, and trouble if you ever would care to throw a character his way. I'd be happy to RP with you. :> Or just play the game in general. I'm leveling arcanist and conjurer now that Thaumaturge is done (both classes are pretty ok at healing) and certainly wouldn't mind playing a support role for your tank, lancer, or the mysterious other characters for quests or dungeons, as long as my slow movement speed isn't a hassle. (One thing about this game is that movement speed is dependent on internet speed, and man, is that terrible sometimes.) If I'm in-game, my character's name is Xavarian Mystrife if you'd like to find me by search info (though that only works if someone's currently logged into the game), or you can just throw a PM at me here instead. Additionally, I must add that physics and psychology are great. Both are pretty awesome subjects, I have to admit. And honestly, I'm a bit curious as to where your interests might lie with them. Are you more of a theoretical physics sort of person? Or find more interest with what's more solid in the realm of forces? Not that you need to answer if you don't want to, I'm basically kinda nosy (and also find that stuff really fascinating). But all that said and aside, welcome to the server! Hope you have fun here.
  9. So I updated this a little. Basically it's just a bigger wall of text, and I don't think anyone's really that surprised. *lays down* TLDR Summaries are: I Added More Linkshells The Wiki is forming Tiny edit to Xavarian's summary about him being a scribe and piecing books together. I don't really do 'city bar RP' that much, so don't expect my character to play in those often, because reasons (that are explained in verbosity above). Walkups are welcome when Xavarian is in the Battlemage Coat and is a BLM. (Both of these together mean I'm not just derping around leveling another class, and that the nerd is actually ICly in the place doing IC things.) Timezone shift! On the 21st of Dec, 2014, I will be in the EST timezone. Whether this means I will stop being up at crazy hours or not, we just don't know. But my current schedule will be abolished thereon after until further notice. Let me know if you ever want to RP with me! Especially in-game. Or here. Or anywhere. I almost always want to RP, and barely ever have anyone to play with, so I will totally be happy to meet up with your characters somewhere should you be up for it.
  10. This is all sorts of late to the party, with most questions answered, but I just wanted to say welcome! And I hope you can get in soon. I was lucky and managed to get in fairly easy at some odd time at night (I think it was just like 2 am?) PST. Granted, that would be 5 am EST. But that was during a weekday in the middle of the school year. *sweats* Still, keep at it! Also, to just mention a bit about lore in this game, a LOT of it can be found in the game itself. Playing through the game was how I came to know most of the lore, since it isn't all neatly compiled on any site the way it can be found by actually playing through quests, talking to NPCS, or reading item descriptions and whatnot. I'd also recommend if you cross a bit of lore during a quest or the story that you're like 'oh gosh, this is something I want to keep for my character / for inspiration later' screenshot it! There's a lot to the game, and if you don't grab it, you might be finding yourself wondering about the specifics of it later. Though, you could always ask here, of course. But yeah, good luck getting in, and hope to see you around. :>
  11. Tam Tara Deepcroft - Undead Met the Professor in Bentbranch - Sought to do science. - Interested in Tam-Tara - Apparently has some arrangements with the Wood Wailers Lenti arrived WE ARE STUDYING UNDEAD - This is incredibly exciting - going to attempt to discern how they work - observe, theorize, and test - perhaps eventually put gained knowledge into use~ - No rituals... yet~ Thalinias - Lenti's Chocobo - Lenti doesn't need scribing materials but may ask me if he runs low Undead make Lenti nervous - he continued to fear for my safety despite assurance. Lots of Aether in the area. - could be felt. - Different from the sylphlands - not as strong - More of a permeating smoke, something in the air, but one could tell it had great power. Old - Pre calamity - Once was a necropolis - now houses Lambs of Dalamud - Already know most of this. Atar- - Lenti's Father. Lenti - Quite powerful fire magic - Repeated large explosive flares of some sort - Couldn't completely watch (too bright) but destroyed a number of skeletons Attempted to tell me to cease my curiosity - It didn't work, of course~ - He was still worried for my safety Professor seemed pleased with Lenti's power Even after skeletons were destroyed, more rose to replace them. Undead Observed - pre-entrance. - All skeletons of varying condition - All tall; likely tall elezen or something larger - All seemed to fit together relatively well - If patchwork was done, it was likely from the same type of body Behavior - typically seemed to ignore us. - Theory (Prof): They are all spelled by an Aether similar to what we exude, and thus, by our presence alone, they are not alarmed. We feel 'familiar' to them. - Theory: They may be set to changes in behavior by trigger, and us wandering about simply is not any sort of trigger for a change. Likewise, fireflies went unhindered; it may have been problematic for those doing the spellwork to have them react to all things that live, as they would certainly be considered much more of a threat to be eliminated than if they kept to themselves. - Theory: Also possible it may have been residual Aether of a certain sort from other practices occurring in the area or nearby. Aether can cause interesting changes in something where there are high amounts, and it is certainly known to, at times, bring 'mobility' and objects inanimate to a state of 'entity'. Movements - mostly fluid - but clearly with some hitches - Would suddenly 'collapse' akin to one dropping hold of a marionette, before they would rise again. - Theory: This suggests that the magic keeping them upright is in flux and not entirely constant; something can get in the way of it, and thus render them temporarily 'severed' from the source of their power. That, or there is a 'fading' aspect to whatever the source of power may be. - Note: Uncertain as to if they are controlled by a being, or by temporal spellery, though likely the latter; I think that something either akin to a ritual or a magical threading has occurred, and they are being controlled by parameters instead of a conscious. - Note: I would also think it possible, however, that a conscious knowing the ritual may be able to 'take up the strings' so to speak, of some of them at a given time. However, that is purely theoretical trajectory. What Disturbs Them - If one is disturbed, a number of them grow hostile Experiment - A theory was mentioned of aether near them causing them to grow hostile. - I attempted to create an 'aetherical disturbance of ice' within the perimeter, but not aimed towards any of them. - Results: They did not grow hostile, nor take notice. - I then attempted a near flurry, more central to the perimeter, yet aimed at none of them. - Results: They did not grow hostile, nor take notice. - The Professor asked me to then aim the flurry towards one of them. - Results: One was frozen in place, while others were then alarmed and grew hostile to attack us. They were all dealt with accordingly, and soon replaced by others who were again, non-hostile. - Conclusion: They seem only to be bothered if outright attacked, or Aether is damaging them in some way. Even if one is unable to do much about this, it will still send off a ripple effect, where others will react hostiley even if unharmed themselves. When all those alerted are taken care of, any that remain or take their place will again, need to be triggered before they will take action. - Typical number of skeletons 'tied to each other': 5 The Professor - believes a Voidsent is behind this - seems near certain - Mentioned that we will return at a later time to investigate further. - Doesn't tend to listen to rules. Bronze Lake - Assistant Avis will contact us - Either by letter or linkpearl They returned to Gridania to eat and rest - I remained - Lenti hugged the professor - It was amusing - Lenti wasn't murdered.. yet~ New students - Both Miqo'te - Faeryn - Deli Deli the Prof's first student - taught her to use Aether - "She's a huge rookie but she holds a huge potential." Avis also a student - thus there are 5 of us Lenti said he'd bring leftovers. The Professor gave me coin to bribe the Wood Wailers with. - I almost refused, then recalled I shouldn't imply my wealth.
  12. I'd be interested in this if it was organized well. *u* Especially if it were based on rolls. I would live for the flops that happen, or RPing out the craptastic rolls that ensue. Because man, how is that not fun or hilarious to have a character all ready to kick some Aetherical butt and then roll a 2? So much can go wrong with magic, and that is part of why I love casters, so I am totally down for this.
  13. The first thing that comes to mind is how Xavarian loves to travel, is so excited to go to new places, even moreso to find rumored ruins, or places of aetherical interest to him... Yet he is terrible with directions. Completely, unforgivably bad. If he gets to a place he was hoping to somewhere within the week's time, he considers it a success. This applies within cities too. He has gods know how many maps, and he still can't seem to figure them out. The best you'll get out of him is the ability to backtrack where he just was, though he tries intently to write down notes to a place he has to know how to get to. The Shroud is sometimes the exception, but he's already missed some assignments that his mentor has given because he couldn't find the location he was supposed to meet, and only ended up going in the right direction by the time everyone else was finished. Of course, this will never stop him from trying. I've also found in playing him, that he isn't the best at speaking anything purely assuring. (Speaking coherently in general aside.) Granted, the times it's happened, the other person somehow took to being cheered up anyway, but Xavarian can't simply say 'It'll be alright'. He adds more detail. Too much detail. 'I hope that your friend ends up alright- not that he won't survive, of course.. maybe, or that you or he necessarily have explicit reason to worry, really. I mean- well, I can't speak for how proficient or not he may be in duels to the death, perhaps he has had similar encounters; he looks like he may be able to take a spell or two as well, not that looks are any way to judge such a thing. Though of course maybe he does have reason to worry, especially given that he doesn't know much in the ways of Aether in an Aetheric duel- But he might not! And you might not. It could end up quite alright for him, considering how unstable Aether can be at times, perhaps it will explode upon his opponent and hopefully not the other way around~ There is always something to be said for the unexpected- not that him being fine is unexpected- *muttered curse, and a pause* ... If one of you is worried, however, might we be able to teach him something more in the remaining hour? ...No? Hells.' He means well, really.
  14. Alder Springs - marked drop - [there is a symbol drawn here that looks like some kind of crest.] - May be asked to caverns; unlikely. - Will be directed to next mark - Note: They won't want me to take anything down in their presence that isn't returned to them. Make notes on a spare, low-grade sheet. Give token. At the next mark, burn sheet. - If something must be noted, it will have to be out of their presence. ----- Ellemeare Hobbies - sewing - cooking (learning) Upset - her friend 'turned himself in' to his family - returned to Ishgard - meant to keep Ellemeare from being further threatened Ellemeare - Not going to Coerthas now - Hasn't been sleeping well - Accepts his decision however - not going after him Is curious about my Aetherical.. disturbances - Not bothered by them Black Magic - Ellemeare apparently knows some of this art - It is possible to learn! - This is so exciting Mentor - Alderic Fierlaine - ran into him by accident - apparently owed her a favor - she saved his life? - Thus he.. taught her - Note: I am rather curious about this, considering that [blot] well, I thought quite a bit would be placed on trust and initiation. Though I honestly know very little about Ellemeare and less about this man; certainly it must follow somehow. - Knew she was a thaumaturge without note of sceptor - Likely could sense Aether Ellemeare wanted additional skill "should Ciceroix's family start trouble" - Discussed her situation with him. - Was afraid at first. - Thought she 'might turn evil'. Black Magic - if used incorrectly can corrupt - also dangerous - 'frightening and exhilerating at the same time' Demonstration - Ziz = target - Used a single spell - large, bright, and loud explosion - ball of light that flashed in the sky - Killed the ziz by a single spell - It felt as though Aether from all around was pulling into the spell - Or at least, I could feel it as well; it seemed to be a power both hers, but beyond only her person. Ellemeare - seemed somewhat exhausted and taxed afterwards - noted that she would like to do more, but is inexperienced - Won't be able to teach me, unfortunately. Alderic - hasn't been heard from in days - "he secludes himself from time to time for studies... and when he does this he goes off any which way the wind takes him without word of when he'll be back." I asked if she would send word if he returns - she agreed to try
  15. I would like to learn ways of placing better wards. I know some for strength and fortitude among other things, but the studies of Arcanima seem to lend themselves nicely to this endeavor, with their placement of geometries, and I feel it would be quite useful to learn. [a few spots] That really isn't the subject of my thoughts, but of course I worry about others finding this. [blot] Lenti seems similar to myself in an odd way. His Aether may manifest in strange fits, according to what he feels, and not always in his own control. It is intriguing, and apparently unusual. ...Though it is much like what had begun happening to me. I continue to wonder if.. if somehow we are alike, if what happened to me also had happened to him. But then, there are so many other factors which might hinder this notion. What if Aether treats those elsewhere differently? It is hard to make a comparison to, not only one of the surface, but one from far off. Furthermore, he is of mixed heritage, and I know not enough of the other races to have clear indication if this would make any difference in such anomaly. Since this is based entirely on Aether of the self [blot] and that some are not as proficient as others, nevermind what affected me may be something that would affect him different [blot] The question becomes how to ask without asking~ In asking, I'd give away something I'd much rather kept unknown. But it is a specific of the past. . . [blot] Clearly riddles are the answer~ Though, really. Perhaps with enough observation, it may become more clear. I merely [a few spots] Either he is much more powerful than I, or has had more practice with his Aether. He seems both to know much, and know little, though I may seem quite similar. I would certainly like to learn more of him sometime. I wonder if he is fine with my company, or if I.. continually make him uneasy. Likewise, the Professor continues his noted tendencies towards power. I was glad to help the Sylphs from the Touched Ones when we did, but I realized his aims seemed more in tune with finding the center of Aether amidst the Touched Ones' home. Which, I cannot deny, was quite fascinating. Considering what I know of his goals, I can only wonder if he intends to utilize it somehow. [a few blots] I'd be curious to see where that would lead too, but should it bring any harm or disagreement to or from Little Solace, we may have some problems. Since I must remain in the Shroud a bit longer for.. some endeavors that Solivuire brought to me, perhaps I will make a small visit to Little Solace again. I wonder if they might care to hear more riddles~
  16. Nerd alert. (I love these 'character creator' things.) I only regret that I couldn't give him a bridgier nose. u_u
  17. Oh my gosh, THIS THREAD. Character colors are super important to me, and I am a giant nerd and have considered this quite a bit. As an artist, I also find it really interesting when characters continually have color themes, especially if there's meaning behind them. I've definitely considered this for Xavarian, so here's my little ramble about what his colors are: Black and Gold. (capitalized for importance) Red is a close third that goes with the other two, but wouldn't ever be without the other two. Also dark blues, silver, and white are more along 'family color' lines, but black and gold are very specific to the character. In explanation to what they actually mean, though, I'll stick with the primary three for Xavarian here. * Black, to him, is representative of a sort of mystery. The Unknown. An indiscernable void that one will always find themselves closer to when trying to combine all the other colors together, but can never actually attain in its truest sense. However, it absorbs light and heat, and holds energy; it's a place for power and retains all. I'm unsure if it has the same social themes in Eorzea, but it is often associated with 'somthing bad', death, and an ending. It makes people uneasy, or suspicious, because it's something they've not yet encountered; a color for hiding something. However, Xavarian finds comfort in the color given his home in darkness, and sees it not merely as an ending, but as the start of all things. The truest part of the cycle, one that a person will either embrace or avoid, yet will always come back to where everything that one can't discern, or hasn't yet learned, resides. Xavarian covers most of himself in Black, or in a close dark equivalent if possible, and finds this fitting for any number of reasons. It also makes him rather proud of his dark skin and hair. * Gold, on the other hand, is like Knowledge. Bright, desirable, valuable, something that draws the eye in its brilliance and contrast, and something Xavarian tries to intricately weave through the darkness of Black in ways that might slowly grow more elaborate. Gold itself is coveted, and as society has made it so, it gives way to new things if traded. As a color, it's an illumination, a sparkle in the darkness, something that can be discerned, and something that would draw someone near. Xavarian feels the direction of all life is to gain Knowledge; in experience, in interacting with things they haven't had before, everyone wants to know what it's like to have something they don't yet have. They seek something new, and in all cases, what is new will give them more Knowledge. The Knowledge Xavarian holds and seeks is always wound and put together in the most winding and intricate of ways. Xavarian will usually either wear, design, or be drawn to things with elaborate gold accents, especially if they abound on something dark. And finally * Red, to Xavarian, is like desire. A powerful driving, and almost stabilizing force, that might run through unseen (like blood) or runs quite clear in the open, drawing notice from the bright, vibrant color it is. Crimson is particularly Xavarian's 'choice red', but he views it as something of instinct, something elemental, denoting what drives someone to keep moving forward. If Gold is what's coveted, Red is the action of coveting. Xavarian himself has marks covering his eyes in red, because through everything else, he will see and pursue what he is after. To him it is less something sexual, and not so much anger, but is the 'spark', the perpetuating force in all of those strong feelings. Xavarian himself will occasionally wear things with splashes of red, and a number of his tattoos (the most notable being around his eyes) are bright red. I'll stop there, because this is getting lengthy, but I am such a nerd about these things. All of these are interesting to read. *u*
  18. Oh gosh. Oh gosh, conflict. I'm excited, this is exciting. *u* And definitely sounds fun. Potential rival-friends (or even just rivals) and battles of wit sound amazing. I'll definitely look forward to them meeting then. I'm still on the PST timezone, and tend to get on a bit later in the day usually, but feel free to add me whenever you see me on! That might make tracking me down a bit easier, instead of repeatedly hounding the search tab. Oh man, certainly! Fellow nocturnal ruins enthusiasts would always be welcome. :> Same applies; if you find me on and want to add me to easier know when I'm around or not, feel free.
  19. I also have a character very interested in magic, theory, and learning just about everything. He's additionally got a thing for ruin delving, artifact retrieval, being a dorky, nocturnal weirdo, and has skills in scribery and book-binding. In short, he's all sorts of 'giant nerd'. He is, however, somewhat young, a bit cryptic, and occasionally odd to speak with, but I'd definitely be up for RPing with another acedemic sort, and he would no doubt be interested too. Judging on Ashloux's name, though, (and maybe your icon) I'm gonna guess he's an elezen? So here's the warning that my character is a duskwight, if it matters either way; honestly I'd be down for nice meetings or angry brawls of wit or brawn, but some might not have the same feelings, so I just figured I'd throw it out there in case it changed anything. My character's name is Xavarian Mystrife, if you're interested in playing with him; feel free to throw me a message on the forums here, or send a tell in game when I'm on. :> Good luck finding more people!
  20. Another mage, excellent. My character, Xavarian Mystrife, is also studying Thaumaturgey, though he is less often at the guild now than he may have been in the past. If your character wants another fellow student in the ways of Aether, who is basically a giant cryptic, yet excitable nerd, I'd be so down to play with Kerrich sometime. :> You can poke me on these forums to get together for RP, and/or search / add me in game if you'd like~
  21. Sanctum of the Twelve Lenti Present, praying? "..and pray safe if the queen, my mother. That is all I ask." I spoke to him. He reacted in surprise - An explosion of flame - yelled at me to get back - though didn't seem to realize it was me? Demanded to know why I was there - I answered that I was wandering. - He assumed it was for.. business? Wished to be undisturbed in prayer at night However was fine with my presence - Was actually in better spirits than I make it sound in words - claimed to nearly mistake me for a treant Was surprised when I noted how loud the rain was - I imagine that he does not hear as well as I Mentioned he doesn't think he can afford to get a "cold here in Eorzea" - Sounds as though Eorzea is a place of transience. Asked about Duskwight hearing - I explained that we are far more sensitive to it than many on the surface - I mentioned I often speak in a whisper to others like myself. - He took that 'Duskwights are sensitive to sound' - Lenti is to be noted as not ignorant; should he use sound over me for some reason, it is unlikely to be a mistake. Then asked of Wildwood elezen - didn't seem to know the term exactly (being Wildwood) - I mentioned I believe their sight is of a high level, though their hearing is less apt than ours. Lenti - said he felt cheated - has no favorable eyesight I mentioned I do not fare well in the light hours with sight either. Lenti - Ancestors were Elezen and Lalafell - Not the Elezen of Eorzea - Note: It may follow that Lenti is from outside of Eorzea. - Hasn't ever seen a Duskwight before myself - Only mentionings of us from books. - Doesn't necessarily think descended from Wildwoods either. - He is, in fact, from outside Eorzea - Cannot see well in the dark I asked of his Aether and earlier reaction to my presence - His Aether seems emotionally connected. - "I just think of something, or if I feel happy, or confident.. or.." - Similar to myself, it seems~ Asked if this sort of Aether manipulation was also common in Eorzea - I am uncertain; I've not been up among surfacers too terribly long. - I mentioned more control with a wand or staff; a focus - mentioned I've been told I need 'more control'. "It's as they say...Aetheric manipulation isn't quite as easy as some may think... Some spend a lifetime just managing to channel what you can muster now, Xavarian." - Perhaps this is why I have been called 'lucky' before. I asked if he may have problems with his Aether or abilities - I could not help but wonder if he had been in a similar situation as I, where.. it was not always this way exactly. - Did not appear quite so, at least by what he said. - Seems to have what is common for myself - "If I'm too upset, or, or--flustered...I-- my train of thought is thrown off in the balance, my--what do they call it here in Eorzea..? Ah.. Adofaer-- no, no." - Otherwise, 'channeling' is common for him Example - Apparently a 'white mage' of sorts thought Lenti to have corrupted Aether - attempted to 'cleanse' him - Lenti was unable to use his aetherical abilities for days - Did manage to recover. - Note: That is mildly terrifying. I am unsure what would happen if I would ever be cut off from my Aether... it is unclear whether it would hurt or help. Mentioned 'white mage' was an Elezen - was not Eamond Lenti seemed to get worked up at the thought of White Mages 'corrupting others' Aether' - Though I never claimed this was something occuring - Unsure if I even am aware of any White Mages of eld. I mentioned Conjurers, in the case that Lenti was unfamiliar with them, for their healing I spoke of not meeting another prior with Aetheric.. divergences similar to myself. - Lenti seemed optimistic that we would learn more of our situation. Linkpearl Went off Professor was speaking, asking for our location - we told him - He arrived Passed us upon entry~ - then his chocobo reared and knocked him off upon return. - he was fine. Lenti was.. apparently acting strange? Professor asked why we were here. - answered vaguely Professor in the Shroud to study Sylphs I gave the notes previously requested to him then Lenti - not familiar with writing Eorzean Professor - decided we needed field training~ Said that some touched Sylphs were causing problems for Little Solace - thus we will be helping take care of that. ------ Through the Shroud Met others on the way Julius Bennet, Shieldbearer of the Phoenix Wings Another who's name I missed - an Aether user, perhaps a Scholar of Aether? An Arcanist? Used tomes. - Primarily healed and protected There was talk of the primals. - Apparently a group who aids in their defeat. - They did not know much of Ramuh - I spoke only of what I'd heard other Sylphs say. - The Professor did most of the speaking with them. We proceeded closer to Sylph lands, though prior to that, we had stopped some Touched Ones from taking some of Little Solace by force Eventually, we entered the [blot, streak] [ a few more notes are here in an extreme 'short-hand' made up more of symbols than actual words] ----- Bronze Lake Apparently for a reward of our endeavor, we will be making a trip to Bronze Lake~ - to be brief - nothing mentioned on when. Lenti is incredibly excited - cannot seem to keep curiosity curbed when piqued - "I'll be restless and I'll, I'll be staying up late...and then I'll binge eat like a madman?!" - Said as some sort of clarification to needing to know a 'surprise'. - Note: Remember this~
  22. I haven't actually played Rogue or Ninja in this game, but back in NWN I did play a character who, almost always, would run around invisible to avoid unwanted attention, as Invisibility was a particular spell in that game. That said, there were a number of ways to counter it, some being spells that last a certain amount of time that directly allow one to see something hidden under Invisibility (aka 'True Seeing', 'See Invisibility', 'Glitterdust' which is kind of like the 'throwing up sand' thing that was mentioned, etc.), or if the person themselves made an 'aggressive' action while under Invisibility, the spell would break, and they'd be out in clear view again. Certain proximities also gave it away; there would be a faint in-game sound if someone who was invisible walked by you, and they'd become faintly able to be seen around your character while they were there. In addition, the spell would only last certain amounts of time, etc. It had lots of counters, and even if none were being taken and my character was around someone being a creeper, I would often emote something nearby someone, and so forth in that vein. Here in FFXIV, I don't know what countermeasures Hide has; if there are means of detection for it or not. But I would play it out most like what other people are saying. Either ICly or OOCly make it known that you are present, yet hidden. Potentially emote sounds, traces you've left behind, shifts in the air if someone is really close, and allow the other person to react if they'd notice or not. Maybe they accidentally run into something, and cause it to move. Or maybe they can't keep the ability up that long / that well, and people might see strange 'ripples' in the air where the person is, or something (if it's being treated more like Aetherical distortion than flat out hiding and sneaking). Perhaps it even reacts to certain areas or situations, such as creating a strange 'smear' in the air if the person moves too quickly, or distorts the air around a person if they're in a place of high/low Aetherical potency. I'd think that the 'restrictions' one can come up with would actually be quite a bit of fun. But that's just how I'd handle it, and some of that is to say I don't know the exact lore of the action (yet) so I'm not sure if it's all plausible. Still, I wouldn't go about it as 'impervious invisibility' either.
  23. I have one for Xavarian, but currently it's in progress, and a lot of it is more 'inspiration' or 'things that remind me of Xavarian because reasons' than anything. Occasionally, though, there will be screenshots, other FFXIV things, writing relating to the character, and art (if I ever get the time to make proper art of this guy). It is here: Prelude to the Unknown It's also likely to be NSFW eventually, but potentially more for 'creepy' than 'sexyfine all the time'. I'd totally have him answer IC asks (as though they were letters) or even OOC asks ICly if sent though. It has the potential for a lot, I just currently use it mostly for inspiration.
  24. Gosh, all of these responses are great. Xavarian doesn't actually have any very close friends. But assuming he did for this question, unlike many here, he would react in a completely situational matter. * If he knew why they were fighting, he may potentially take sides if he felt strongly for one of their reasons over the other. If he actually got involved or not, depends on how the fight started, and if the result would effect him. * If it was more of a personal dispute between them (and didn't effect him directly, or his goals), he would keep out of the way; what right has he, afterall, to intervene in something they both deem fit to take part in? If it did effect his goals or desires to more than a minor degree, he'd get involved. * Insofar as his involvement, or if they seemed like they wanted a solution, however, instead of just an 'honor duel', brawl, or what have you, Xavarian would attempt to speak up and be diplomatic about it; see all sides, look for a logical solution that leaves all of them with something they want. Possibly separating the lot of them via ice barrier if it seemed necessary. * If they tried to drag him into the actual physical fight (should he not be willing), it would be chaos. There would be things on fire, shards of ice everywhere, some people would probably end up asleep on the ground, Xavarian would be beat up. ... Good times. On the one hand, Xavarian is pretty relativist in view, and isn't about the get in the way of something that he might think is of cultural or personal significance to those involved. If they all want to do it, let them do it (so long as it doesn't conflict with his desires). On the other hand, once it conflicts, he'd want it dealt with, and would take what seems to be the 'most logical route' to doing that at the time. In reality, though, Xavarian would likely be fairly nervous about this; all sorts of Aether would be happening around him. He is likely to pick some friends over others, (if he had them) to side with more frequently, and may defend them abruptly if it looks like a killing blow might be struck, but it's pretty hard to say currently, as he's lacking those friends, and thus, can't speak for if they'd even want to be 'helped' or not. Importance level to him here would be: Xavarian's ultimate desires > All friends' involved ultimate desires (with a few likely superseding others) > if a solution is wanted > the wish for conflict itself > being harmed somehow (> 'what's morally right'; this is the least important and in parentheses because to be quite honest, it doesn't even factor in, really, other than an afterthought for appearances, if need be.) TLDR: Xavarian's an analytical, relativist butt who wants things, and will react accordingly.
  25. That was an interesting meeting. Lenti is rather curious. I cannot help but wonder if there are others with my particular... issue. In some ways, I doubt it. Not the 'lack of control', but [blot] the cause. Well, beyond inexperience. Though, I suppose, it is also not hard to imagine that there are others with such issue either, especially considering some of the places here. Really, I do not know enough to make any reasonable assertion~ I wonder if more experience with my own Aether itself will prove to quell the abundance, or if there may be more to it than that. [a few spots] Maybe it really is that simple. . . [another ink blot] I really must not rest or tap the pen on the page while I think~ Or, well, not 'must', clearly I can, will, and have, but these pages would be quite a bit neater if I would break that habit. At the very least, it doesn't occur when it really matters. Which reminds me, I've heard nothing from Lafiaht yet. I wonder if personal delivery of parcels would be.. a wiser option. It is possible, though, that she may have simply not wished to have any part in what I was doing, which is also a fair possibility. [tiny spot] Not all necessarily would take well to being.. suddenly a part of an experiment~ Of course, I would find it rather exciting. Even a harmless one. Though- well, is it? No, I su-[streak, spot] Maybe it will never reach her. I realize, that I had just used the Moogles to deliver something yesternight, and then later that night I.. got something myself. I cannot help but wonder if they may only know of your location should you go to them. And once you have, then they have you. [spot] It's quite possible that Lafiaht may have never used them as means to deliver letters for this reason. Thus, possible that she may never receive what I sent... Though there can be any other number of reasons too, at this point, I am simply speculating. I feel it is rather important that I find out sometime, however. I will need this Knowledge eventually. [another tiny spot] And from here, my mind wanders. I would like to find out where to deliver these notes. I still am uncertain if Moogles can be trusted. Perhaps I am merely doing something incorrectly... I may ask on the linkpearl later. For now, though, other matters of exploration and experimentation will hold my interests~ Though I have heard Soli may soon have a task for me. ... I wonder if she'll be able to find me~
