  1. ...is your necklace lighting up cause that is some gypsy magic. Also I will post a picture of myself again. Someday. -Someday-. Faye is gypsy magic
  2. The answer is yes. Or Gilgamesh. You won't find near the variety, volume, or quality of RP anywhere else. EDIT: CONGRATS ON GETTING IN! You made the right choice.
  3. I honestly think we need more banana hammock armor than trench coats.
  4. So, moving eyes. If you rolled an Arcanist: You could adequately RP Winnifred Sanderson.
  5. Currently there is ONE sentient weapon known to the world. The issue is that the weapon is Odin. Odin is a primal, and therefor not even a weapon but whatever primals are made of. It would not be feasible to own a weapon like that, because as wek now, Odin completely controls anyone who wields him. You character would lose her "self" to it, even if the primal isn't evil. Ramuh isn't an evil primal, but tempers his subjects all the same. With that said, Sharlayan magic is able to animate brooms, so it isn't impossible that you could give a weapon awareness. I would stay away from making it super smart and wise though. So far the brooms and frogs we've seen haven't been that smart or good at doing things, so I get the feeling giving them high IQs takes an unnecessary amount of aether.
  6. He isn't really an exception to keepers. Keepers are much less integrated than Seekers, who can live their own lives as adults as long as they return to the tribe to breed when it's time. Keeper males tend to be loners walking paths of solitude. They are not regarded highly as Seeker males are, and even breeding males tend to remain out of the spotlight. They are far more rare than Seeker males.
  7. Blade and soul is looking better so far. My issue is that it looks like a fetish game. One of those 18+ MMOS they advertise when you google too much porn.
  8. As a confirmed lord and high priest of customization sliders, I was absolutely enthralled by the level of detail available in character creation. It's on par with a next gen Perfect World. Problem is the rest of the game. Gender-locked classes. Currently, classes that should easily be open are locked. To make matters worse, MOST of the available classes are locked to Female. There are two male locked classes and a Giant, which is barely human. There are two non-locked classes. Also, while I like not having to roll Holy Trinity heal/dps/tank, I do not like the idea that this is a Potion game. PVP is "who can avoid the zerg". There aren't really any dungeons to speak of, nor do I see where this is going. Like the other releases of BD, this is a pile of shit wrapped in a pretty package.
  9. My worry is that I don't worry enough. I know for a fact I enjoy creating and conceptualizing characters more than actually RPing them.
  10. I prefer the Enix approach. Both men and women have options that show off their bodies without losing what makes them men and women. Then again I also like traditional gender roles (sue me) so masculine males will always do it for me more than a man in a dress.
  11. Yes, you would. If you were raised in a culture where your sexuality was not your decision (Orthodox Judaism for example) you would either gladly accept your duty to your family, or risk losing everything by challenging their decision. A Miqote's mating requirements are not far off from the arranged marriage structures present in many societies today. When I was little, I was taken to all kinds of play dates with a girl 2 years younger than me because our parents planned on having us establish a relationship through our lives and then one day marry. That's one of the ways Southern families arrange marriages. Unfortunately our parents had a falling out and the union was canceled (which is good because when puberty hit, it turned out I'm very gay) but I never questioned the idea that one day I was supposed to marry that girl. It was just a fact. My grandparents and great grandparents all had arranged marriages, and so would my mother have had she not been the rebel of the family and shut herself out of familial traditions for most of her life. Southerners are a little more like Miqote than flat arranged marriages in that we have things like Cotillions where all the young people are brought together in an oohlala fancy schmancy setting and sort of matched by our mothers. "Wouldn't little Timmy and Amanda make a lovely pair? They'll have a beautiful family if they can get along." Ultimately, these couples tend to fall in love or at least deep caring with time, and stay together for the rest of their lives.
  12. ...at least they don't restrict costumes/town gear like SE does? ┐(。_°)┌ That looks horrible. Men can be sexy without it being trashy and ridiculous.
  13. I'd have played for the sexy men but I can't stand race and gender restrictions.
  14. I personally have never had any of the creep tells, but I have heard tales. Dadarupo probably just looks unapproachable in his Pince Nez glasses. The thing about Lalas though is that what may seem childish to us is not childish to them. Stamping their feet and flapping their arms when they are angry is more akin to the behavior of Rumpelstiltskin than a toddler having a tantrum. Look at the way they waddle when they walk. Look at Sultana Nanamo Ul Namo. In ARR, Namamo was portrayed as a toddler. Her voice was widdle-babby-foofoo and she sat around like an infant that had just finished nursing. When the expansion content came around, Nanamo retained her actions, but her voice acting adjusted to give her a more diplomatic way of speaking which more accurately portrays the level of responsibility she has. Nanamo was altered slightly to create a sense of respect but preserve the sweetness that can be found in her relationship with Raubanh. As a grown woman she is able to make and discuss decisions that impact the future of the alliance and Ul'Dah, but is also able to retreat into her more childlike tendencies when she is frightened. Even in Teledji and Lolorito, pretty squabbles and tantrums and flamboyance are part of who they are. Lalafell are educated, hardworking, and often serious individuals, but they also know who they are and who they appear to be. Some may even have complexes or fears of being treated like the babe of a Hyur and try extra hard to be mean and tough. Some may purposefully play the innocent child card for nefarious purposes.
  15. I totally see what you mean about the Highlander thing. I suppose in my head I acknowledge Highlanders as the jockbro barbarian archaetype. Most of them are rough and tough and either hedonistic or very traditional. I think of ancient Greece and gladiators. They are also the most commercially attractive race, with their curves, musculature, and facial structure. They meet current real world beauty standards to a large degree, and I am more able to shrug oddities off. The thing about Hyur though is that they are an expansive and diverse race that is present in almost every society through history. They are canonically able to have a vast array of views and habits that would be highly uncommon in other races. It's not the sex-crazed thing that bothers me about Miqote though, since reproduction IS a big part of their culture. It's the accepted mainstream twisting of a race to justify cringeworthy behavior that ends up like this:
  16. Dadarupo is happy to make acquaintances (but never friends) with other Dunesfolk. I originally mained a derplander, but since making my Lalafell, I've found I actually have a lot more freedom in what I do. There is more room for conflict, and more options for the kind of person he can be. The thing about Lalafell is that you will not be successful in the Quicksand. You have to reach out and find a LS or a FC, because that RP hub is oriented toward a certain demographic of roleplayers that are exclusive in their interests. Miqote and Au Ra fall under those interests, but Lalafell do not.
  17. Yeah... The whole reason so many heavy RPers avoid rolling Miqote is because there is an enormous issue of people playing them as housecats. It's sad, because Miqote's have the most detailed lore available yet so much of it is ignored by the people that play them. Many (but not all) of us who are dedicated to preserving what makes each race unique as written avoid playing an otherwise excellent race. I personally don't want to be associated with a style of Roleplay that could undermine my ability to be a skilled writer within the constraints of the given world. Some are brave enough to play the race anyway, and I envy them. I don't like the fact that the biggest derogatory remarks going around right now are "Quicksand" and "catboy", and I wish the behavior associated with those remarks would disappear.
  18. Arcanima should be about the same even in Doma, but perhaps with different teaching methods. The sigils are still the same. With that said, NOTHING is stopping her from attempting to come up with new spells. I had one on an old character used for scrying in round pools of water with a crystal. He came across an old spell for dousing lost belongings and began working on changing the geometries until it finally did what he wanted after months of trying.
  19. Sounds good, but that kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda sounds more like supposition than anything particularly conclusive: You say it's 'VERY VERY' precise. How precise is that? What are the exact angles that we're talking about? What are the lines and their associated length? What is a geometry? What differentiates a 'Ruin' spell from a 'Bio' spell? How are Arcanists able to cast cross-class skills? Can they cast cross-class skills lore-wise? It'd be really nice if there was some sort of quick guide to it all that was used as inspiration for the class, such as what Brandon Sanderson provided as a supplement for 'The Rithmatist'. (An excerpt of which can be found here) As it stands, I don't think we can go into detail about the likelihoods, let alone the amount of research it would take for any specific variety of spell. We can make broad estimations based on common sense. The derived method of spellcasting would not be near so effective as those taught with formal education. It also makes sense that a teenager without education would therefore not have an advanced system in place for spellslinging. Rather than liken it to coming up with modern algebra, I'd liken it more to Gauss coming up with the equation for summation at age eight. But most importantly, as Solenne says, it's not so much becoming a competent arcanist, as much as finding some vague magical responses and perhaps even simple cantrips from a series of experiments. And I think that's more than reasonable. I'm not really sure of the point of these bullets since they ask questions mostly answered, but I'll address them one by one: [*]You say it's 'VERY VERY' precise. How precise is that? [*]Very very. As precise as math can be, which is as precise as it can be with a margin of error. If the geometry isn't right, you fuck up. [*]What are the exact angles that we're talking about? [*]What are the lines and their associated length? [*]We are not given the dimensions of each spell. We are only told the concept. This is a question for Enix. [*]What is a geometry? [*]As explained, a geometry is the specific way in which a spell is transcribed. Aka sigils and seals and signs made by lines and shapes with specific dimension which we are not given. [*]What differentiates a 'Ruin' spell from a 'Bio' spell? [*]The geometry. That's like the difference between a star and a circle. The geometry of Bio is recognized. [*]How are Arcanists able to cast cross-class skills? [*]The same way anyone casts cross class skills. Those skills are assumed to be possible with multiple types of foci. The ink in an Arcanist's tome allows them to channel aether, which can be used to cast some general spells. It is likely however that the potency is a little reduced, much like how some classes can use a combo skill, but without the opening ability, the combo cant trigger and the skill comes out weaker. [*]Can they cast cross-class skills lore-wise? [*]Part of becoming good at Arcanima is studying similar magics. An Arcanist interested in summoning, or offensive magics will study some basic thaumaturgy. An Arcanist interested in medicine and healing might attempt to study some conjury. They of course cannot cast the entire repertoire of those classes because they possess neither the proper foci nor the training to handle all of those skills. With that said, it isn't impossible to study multiple magics, in which case you could just carry a scepter and a tome.
  20. I can't find it anymore but Sounssy has a comprehensive post on Arcanima. *summons Primal Sounssy* Basically, Arcanima is VERY VERY precise. The likelihood of stumbling upon a viable spell by chance is slim to none. The process of invention is likely many years of trial an error. Adjust this angle, shorten this line, close this circle but leave this one open. Fine tuning until it's perfect. Most spells used today were developed centuries ago or are based on Allagan and Nymean magical sciences. I would say the thinking power required for creating new and well-functioning arcanima is the equivalent of the thinking power of the mathematicians who came up with modern algebra and sit around all day figuring out the world's unsolved equations.
  21. The game says it has happened. Now, you can wave hands at 1.0 lore and dismiss it, or you can ignore that we haven't met any of these folks in the wild, but there's a method right there: Do awesome things the Elementals like, receive special powers. That doesn't disprove anything I said. It says "White Mages" implying they were already White Mages. Those vestments are also imbued with the light of Succor but it does not specify that wearing the garments enables the use of it. It also says "true servants of the forest". As far as we know, the Padjal ARE the true servants of the forest as decided by the Elementals directly. The WoL is the hero of the world and is an exception to all rules. It also specifies that this Garb of Succor is not widely in use. It is ancient artifacts that enhance White Magic when worn by a White Mage. If you do not have the ability to utilize Succor, it is not quite as useful. It does not make you a White Mage by wearing them. even if you are a White Mage, it doesn't mean you have the garments. They only gave them to the WoL because hero. Even that's available for interpretation, though. Who actually crowns someone a white mage? They had to come from somewhere, and it was most likely the elementals. There's no White Mage Academy you have to graduate from. I interpret (maybe incorrectly!) that the last sentence implies white mages were created by Elementals granting them that "ultimate favor" in the form of imbued clothing. By being permitted that favor, it could have made someone a White Mage. Or, it could have been an existing White Mage making more magic undies. Or it could have been some other thing. There's room to play in besides "nefarious means" so it's not unreasonable to use that as a background. Hell, even the WHM lore states that only the WoL has been granted that power, but the source could be biased. Not all padjals have to know about everything the Elementals are up to, you know? If someone made some great sacrifice for the Twelveswood before the WoL ever turned up, and this person was found Worthy and just... never turned up to hang out in Gridania? Sure, let's go with it. I suppose I just mean I'm open to the idea as long as it's something beyond "WoL plus me too." Except the Padjal would know. It's Kan E Senna's job to know. You may also want to take into account that the WoL does not even receive the special garments until he/she has proven to be a paragon of White Mages and has shown to live by the tenets of White Mage law. The Warrior of Light proved his worth, and was allowed to don the garb for the impending fight. Theyre may be more than the one outfit in the world, but so far only a proven loyal White Mage has been granted use of it.
