Location: The Black Shroud Who may mention this: Any Wood Wailers, Archer's Guild, or Twin Adders (or anyone with contacts in any of these groups) could know of this. Rumor: "Reports are still coming in from Wood Wailer patrols of small groups of Shroud poachers found slain. There is a clear pattern with most all of these cases, indicating that they are likely being carried out by the same person or persons. Always at least two or more mauled by wolves, at least two slain with a single arrow each, and the poacher leader always slain by a slit throat. Investigations suggest there are usually minimal struggles before it's over. It should be mentioned that there is more than enough evidence to suggest there is only one person involved in these killings. As an aside, the Wailers are getting tired of cleaning up these messes."

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales

Also excessive sarcasm really helps bring a community together and makes everyone feel great. I really appreciate people who supply it, they really have a lot to add to a thread. They must feel great about themselves, too. So darn clever, such impressive wit. -

Also something that always has really annoyed me are people (by people, I mean healers and tanks) that treat DPS like they are all idiots and they don't even need them around. Tanking or healing must fill certain people with some kind of superiority complex. They aren't even noticed unless they aren't doing their job well. -
This type of RPing has always confused me. I never really understood why people typed like this. I guessed it might be a way for my character to interrupt their action that they "would" do, but most of the time they type 2 paragraphs of stuff like this all at once before it's my time to post anyway, full of other things they would also do. Am I supposed to include which things I would stop and which things I would allow to happen?

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Manari replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Can I vent about my mouse? It's beginning to wear out after almost 2 years of use. I'm not sure if that's good or poor as far as these multi-button MMO mice go, as this is my first one. It's a Logitech G600 and up until recently I loved it. In fact, I could never go back to trying to play FFXIV without it. Which is why I'm here to vent about it, because these things are expensive and I can't really afford a new one. The first problem that started to happen a while ago but I've been just dealing with is the main left click button is wearing out. I have to push it really hard to get it to register, then when I do that, it acts like I just turned on a turbo click feature, rapidly clicking like mad. Not a huge deal since I'm not a clicker when I play usually. But now the side buttons, of which there are 12 (4 rows of 3), the 3rd button is wearing out as well. It doesn't register me pushing it unless I grip the mouse and push it as hard as I can. That is throwing off my rotation when I forget in mid combat and start mashing it because it doesn't work. It really throws off my Mudra casting too, making it screw up over 50% of the time. It's just really frustrating is all. I know I could just not use that button, as there are a lot more on the mouse. But those are the most comfortable buttons to reach. -
When people metagame, even unintentionally, by calling me by the surname displayed in-game. My character's displayed name is an alias, or more accurately, a name she uses that non-Miqo'te can easily pronounce. Long ago when she lost her tribe, she discovered that non-Miqo'te could not properly say her birthname, and she got tired of the aggravating attempts, so she decided to just tell everyone her name was Manari, because everyone can say that. She never ever has told anyone her surname is Onai, because it isn't. It's her tribe's name, and the game needed me to enter a last name to make the character. So I always cringe every time someone calls her "Miss Onai" or something similar.

I can't stand trying to read the dialog for people speaking a Limsan accent. It's hard enough to mentally sound out what you are reading to replace all the missing letters that are trying to convey the accent, but then they top it off with odd and strange figures of speech that often times make no sense and are trying to give them impression that Limans have their own sub language. It's just a pain to mentally sort out the written dialog that I usually just skip through it all when I'm forced to deal with pirate speak.

Questions on crime in Ul'dah and other stuff

Truly, a man after my alt's own heart. Captain Longhaft is an inspiration to young men the realm over. -

And it should be noted that there are several noteworthy cases in the official lore, NPC dialog, and cutscenes that show just how rotten, selfish, and even corrupt the Brass Blades can really be. I RP an alt that is a male Highlander that used to be a member of the Brass Blades that left them after giving a superior minor injuries from trying to force him to do something he didn't want to do. Now he really hates them. -
You are going to have to be a lot more specific than that. Which one of the many many Monk specific armors are you talking about?

I apologize if this is slightly off topic, I don't really think that it is though. How do you feel about characters that are something that doesn't fit into the class/job classifications? There are always people out there that want to RP their favorite job that isn't in the game like Blue Mage, Red Mage, and Samurai. I personally don't feel this can work because we have no lore on these jobs, and as far as the lore is concerned, they don't exist in Eorzea yet. For Manari, back in 1.0 I RPed her as an archer, a huntress to be specific. Even after they forced me to be a bard, I still just RPed that she was a huntress. She had skills that bards don't have, like tracking, stalking, setting traps, things like that. My Bard was level 50 of course, but I never RPed Manari as being that good at playing music. Then towards the end of 1.0, right before server shut down, I began to have Manari slowly shift towards a darker path due to events that have happened to her. She still used her bow occasionally, but now she began to train in the use of daggers. Single and dual blades, and I used Paladin with the daggers they used to have to show this in-game. She wasn't a ninja, she was becoming an assassin. That isn't a class or a job you can be, Ninja wasn't even hinted at yet either (though I did assume it would happen eventually) but I've been RPing this ever since. Even now I don't RP Manari as a "ninja" and she's never had anything to do with the Rogue's from Limsa either. I don't RP her knowing things like the mudras or able to use the ninja spells. She is very good a moving silently, becoming like a phantom when in her natural element of the Black Shroud. I personally don't feel like using a dagger would be something that only rogues and ninjas could ever learn to do. However, I do use Ninja as my RP job to represent all this now, and it is level 50 (I don't have Heavensward yet). So how does the community feel about something like that? Also, it isn't something that I advertise when RPing, like sending a OOC message that says ((Manari isn't a ninja, she's an assassin!)) or anything like that.

"So like. . you're saying raisins are just grapes with a tan? Whoa." "Yeah, well... that's like, just your opinion, man."

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Manari replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
This is something that's annoyed me since 2.0 was about 2 or 3 months old. I used to heal fairly often, but I quit because apparently I wasn't DPSing hard enough. I don't really give a damn about shaving 2 minutes off our dungeon clear time by spamming holy or Stone II or whatever they expect WHMs to be doing. Some of these PUG tanks are too squishy to be worrying about DPSing anyway. And you know what? That's fine, I actually welcome a healing challenge. That's what I'm doing on that job. Healing. Keeping those HP bars full and debuffs cleared. Since I don't have Heavensward, I've been leveling an alt, and I'm leveling WHM with it. I was in Tam-Tara, one of the lowest level dungeons in the game, and after the first fight, one of the DPS was like "WHM dps plz" Which normally I do throw out aeros and a few stones because if your tank has any amount of level 15 gear you will do a lot of standing around waiting for his HP to go down anyway. But being ordered to DPS by the DPS just really made me sit there and boil for a while. I thought about leaving the dungeon, but I didn't. And it made me more angry that even at this early level I see this trend. I'm sure it'll only get worse. That's why I switched to DPS in the first place. No one ever orders me to heal. -
What Primal would you Character serve or work for?
Manari replied to Asmodean's topic in Fun Prompts
You mean Byregot? 'cause like, he's totally Byregot, and his wife Julyan is almost certainly Menphina. Yesh. Mein headcanon. On a serious note... Ramuh. "We just want to be left alone, GTFO." I never even considered that, but it makes perfect sense. There's no way that wasn't intentional either, there are too many similarities. Damn, that's actually kind of awesome. Especially since Manari follows Menphina fairly devoutly as well. -
The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward
Manari replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
But other places outside of Eorzea like Garlemald and Doma don't follow the Twelve or the Eorzean zodiac. It has been shown very clearly that the Garleans don't follow the Twelve, they even mock them. Would stand to reason that the Au Ra wouldn't follow them either. -

I sort of understand. I loved Bard until I finally decided to get serious in early 2.0 and downloaded a parser. I had equal or close gear ilvl and knew exactly how to DPS but I couldn't match or surpass anyone. Apparently that is "working as intended" for Bard because they can give mages some MP back slowly. (Which lowers their DPS even MORE) When I learned that, switched to Monk instead until NIN came out (which I wanted since 1.0 anyway). I never felt that being able to give mages some slightly faster MP regeneration would ever make up for the lower DPS bard has, especially when MP is almost meaningless to BLM and even SCH and SMN for the most part. But that was a long time ago, I'm probably never going back to Bard either way. I'll wait for Ranger!

I don't have Heavensward yet, but I was concerned about what they did to NIN? I heard they were going to add a bunch of positional requirements on their moves. Is this true? If so, if we really have to juggle positional stuff along with mudras and our combos on top of it, why not just be a monk? I'm just wondering how bad it is.

I think the word "tribe" causes some stereotyped images in people's minds. Just because Miqo'te live in tribes doesn't mean they all wear loincloths and dance around a campfire with bones in our hair. We see the U tribe in Forgotten Springs, they have houses and a nice community and are essentially just a village of people. Our FC has a house in the Shroud's housing district because that's the only place the game lets us put houses. The FC itself is a clan made up of Keepers of the Moon who have lost their tribes. We all were found, or found the clan, and came together to form a new tribe. So we all have our tragic backstory. It's really the only way to have a FC like this unless you have everyone make new characters specifically for this kind of group. A true Keeper tribe would have to be made up of a few close families living in a small community. Manari's IC hangup with this trend of Miqo'te forsaking their tribes is that she is so passionately traditional and loves her history and traditions so much, that seeing Miqo'te to scoff at and even hate their own ways just hurts her.
-
I've also noticed this since way way back in 1.0 (however, we has almost no lore then), and it not only bothers me, but it also bothers Manari IC'ly. I understand that it's mostly due to people wanting the storyline they made up for their character not meshing with the in game lore to make sense, or because they wanted a different name, or some similar reason. But even so, when almost every single Miqo'te RP'er has a story about why their tribe was awful and they left, or they were raised by Hyur, or something similar, it just starts to feel lore breaking.... but I suppose the sheer massive amount of male Miqo'te around in RP is lore breaking enough on it's own, yes? I've found a FC that has a few tribal Keepers in it, and I love it there, but this trend has effected Manari IC, and it has started to really negatively alter her perception of Seekers of the Sun even more than before. She is thinking to herself "Seeker life must truly be terrible if every single one I've ever met left their tribe."

Final Fantasy XIII is complete garbage and they need to stop slapping the number XIII on their games if they ever want me to give them any money ever again. From it's terrible characters to it's completely uninteresting story, I had a hard time staying awake while forcing myself to finish this game. Then there is the 20 hour long hallway, which no one can possibly defend without saying "but it gets better after 20 hours!" And finally the lame battle system that has you just mashing X as your characters do everything for you. This game was an insult to the Final Fantasy series, and the only thing I liked about it was the comic relief character with a giant afro and a bird living in his hair. He was the only interesting character in the game. And it only gets more insulting to the series as they pumped out more crap from this universe. The plots just get worse and worse. I'll tell you what good came out of it though. I used to hate FFVIII. Now I have a whole new appreciation for that game. It was my least favorite for years, but at least it looked like Final Fantasy, it sounded like Final Fantasy, and played like Final Fantasy. It had its share of difficulties that made it one of my least favorite in the series, but at least it still has the heart of a Final Fantasy game. FFXIII does none of these things. There is so little to like about FFXIII unless all you care about is pretty graphics. Sorry, I know we are getting off topic. But the truth is that I worry about what kind of battle system SE will implement into the FFVII remake. I'm pretty sure most FFVII fans don't want it changed too much, but you know it's going to be completely different. It's also going to use a much more modern style of FF storytelling, which might be a good thing, or it might make the game feel foreign. You know we aren't going to see those familiar blue text boxes anymore. (or whatever color you changed them to) I guess I'm just worried that SE it going to take the game much farther past the kind of remake that the fans wanted.

I can speak from my experience playing a lot of Splatoon online that once you get used to the weird gyroscopic controls, they are much better than using an analog stick. I'm actually pretty excited for this control method now that I've been Splatting with the best of them for a while, and remembering how hard of a time I had getting used to playing Starfox 64 3D on the 3DS using the slide pad. I was sitting there with my 3DS going "How the hell was I so good at this back on the 64?" I forgot everything. I'm just wondering if we are going to get the classic Starfox and Starwolf teams, or if it's going to be the teams with Krystal and Panthro, or whatever that guy's name was.

I can't wait to do aileron rolls and U-turns and listen to awesomely quotable cheesy dialog again! "Annoying bird! I am the great Leon!" "Daddy screamed reeeeeeeeal good when he DIED!" "Can't let you brew that, Starbucks."

Haha, wow. Au Ra lore is awesome. Now we will have hundreds of Seekers AND Xaela that have all abandoned their tribal ways IC.

Manari in high school would be almost exactly like (a shorter and more flat chested) Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh. Super quiet, almost doesn't speak to anyone, loves loves loves animals, and is actually really athletic and badass but doesn't want any attention drawn to her because of it. She would be shy and wish people would want to talk to her even as she stands at the back of the room wish her arms crossed over her chest looking nearly unapproachable with her frown, as she silently wished people would approach her.
