What future game releases are you most looking forward to?
Manari replied to Dravus's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Monster Hunter X (Cross) even though no word of a Western release has been stated yet. Bloodstained The Kickstarter super successfully funded Igarashi game, a spiritual successor to Castlevania. Mighty No. 9 Also a Kickstarter funded game built to be a spiritual successor to the Megaman games. And what ever happened to Final Fantasy Explorers? It's been out in Japan since like December or something. I was looking forward to that game too. -
It's my favorite Heavensward related speculation~ Even ancient advanced civilizations thought the idea of catgirls was "super hawt", apparently. This is interesting though... Can I ask what exactly leads people to this theory? Is it just all the stuff in the test tubes up there, or just the fact that the Alleg did mad science on people in general?

Manari has never considered anything she's done or said as humor. Before the Calamity she was usually just a very polite girl that did her best to try and fit in with Eorzean culture. Now she's actually quite cynical and has developed a sense of sarcasm. There are a few reasons this has happened, but this usually leaves others finding her anything but polite. This usually comes out in tandem with her rather racist views against Seekers, Wildwoods, and anything regarding Limsa Lominsa. Example: **A random male Seeker walks into the Shroudwolves FC house** Seeker: "Hello, I'm looking for someone." Manari: "I am sure there are dozens of Seeker woman in Ul'dah who would love to join your harem." Seeker: "Wh-what? Or something like: **A Wildwood Elezen Wood Wailer knocks on the door to the house.** Wildwood: "Excuse me, I needed some information on an incident we are investigating." Manari: "Oh? The situation must be dire if you are consulting with the likes of us savages."

Every single time I see a PvP update in the patch notes, I think the same thing. "Oh yeah, I forgot FFXIV has PvP. Heh."

Manari wouldn't have any interest in talking to me, so we probably wouldn't even really meet. There would be a LOT of awkward silence then she would leave, and we would never meet again.

This all happened back at the end of 1.0 and the beginning of 2.0 when they added male Miqo'te. Many people were already playing either a midlander model or a female Miqo'te model but RPing that they were male Miqo'te. But even more people just suddenly became male Miqo'te seemingly at random with the OOC explanation of "I always wanted to be male Miqo'te, it just wasn't added yet." This was even before any kind of fantasia or character changing item was added in game. This was all using a one-time character redesign that SE offered all 1.0 players the first time they logged into 2.0, so there wasn't even an "is this IC'ly possible" argument. It was just a lot of arguing about how its silly that so many people are suddenly a completely different gender or race. But yet again, it was all due to a shiny new race being added... or at least a shiny new gender to a race.

What physique does your character prefer? WAIT! In their significant other!
Manari replied to g0ne's topic in Fun Prompts
Manari prefers her men to be Miqo'te and Keeper of the Moon. She's tried to adapt and learn the way relationships work outside of her traditional Keeper upbringing, and it's never worked out well for her. She's done with it and just wants to go back to the way she was raised. And being a strong independent Keeper woman, she likes her Keeper boys to be just the right mix of pretty and strong. -
Being able to completely and totally change your appearance, race, and gender instantly is completely immersion breaking, even in a high fantasy setting such as this. I don't really care what people do with their characters, but sometimes one person's whim to be the fancy new race will completely ruin the RP they have previously built up with all those characters they interact with if they insist on trying to somehow play the same character after the change.

I was going to mention that place as well. Most of the female NPCs in that dungeon make all sorts of insinuations as to the reason and the terms of them being there. Some phrases they utter are more colorful than others but all of them imply they are indeed slaves been kept by the pirates. It's probably one of the more powerful examples, in fact.

Displaying the flag of the Maelstrom outside of Limsa
Manari replied to D'aito Kuji's topic in RP Discussion
I took that as meaning someone had a problem with it IC. And if that is the case then I actually think that's great! I love characters who have prejudice against others by way of nation or race. It's just fun and exciting to have a bit of tension or conflict over such things, as they do happen in real life and I see far too many characters being overly open and accepting when we clearly see in the lore that is extremely uncommon to have such a mindset. But if that person was being OOC and serious... then that is just stupid. -
Does your Character aspire to be a Hero?
Manari replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
What is a hero? A miserable little pile of secrets! Manari has a pretty selfish and narrow outlook as of late. She isn't an adventurer and she doesn't want to be recognized as any kind of hero. She dislikes most areas of the realm outside of her precious Twelveswood and wouldn't really care all that much if they burned or rotted as long as it didn't impact her home. But within her home, I suppose her actions could be called heroic by some. She has taken to protecting her forest home by donning a mask and green clothing to seem one with the woods as she strikes from the shadows, the treetops, and the underbrush. Until the elementals are strong enough to protect the Twelveswood, Manari has decided to protect them and become the Greenwrath in their place... as much as one Miqo'te and her pack of wolves can anyway. Of course she deals with most of her problems in a similar way that the Punisher would. So perhaps not all that heroic after all. -
I know exactly what the OP is talking about. I used to tank all the time in FFXI and I never felt much anxiety, in fact I really enjoyed it. But it wasn't difficult compared to what we have to do as tanks in FFXIV. I actually started maining Warrior at the very beginning of 2.0 and I did it for a long time. But eventually the pressure started to wear on me and I hated being in the spotlight for every mistake I made. What I started doing back then (I had all jobs at 50 already from 1.0) was doing all the dungeons as healer first to learn them, then tanking them later after having a better understanding. But I understand that it's not that easy in 3.0 with the level cap raised. Honestly I've been thinking about getting back into tanking eventually once the flood of tanks lowers it's tide again.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXIII Q&A Update Thread
Manari replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That is exactly how I interpreted the answer as well... However, I'm not sure I agree with that sentiment. Cartoons, particularly anime, began using a design for their characters that used very overly large eyes as a way to make the characters more expressive. I just don't see how that adorable little Miqo'te girl would make it harder on the devs to give her expressive emotes. Just look at the Lalafell. They have (in many people's opinions) the best emotes of all races. They are very expressive and full of emotion in their actions and animations. So is that really what the answer was trying to say? -
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXIII Q&A Update Thread
Manari replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I am almost certain this is all they are doing. However, Gegenji probably has the right of it with the actual meaning of that answer. I'm certain all it meant was to please look forward to more information about that random little Miqo'te girl standing alone for seemingly no reason. I'm sure there will be a quest or somesuch involving her. -
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXIII Q&A Update Thread
Manari replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I know the event you are talking about and it was just a very limiting glamor type buff that let you run around just that section of the city as a child. You couldn't leave the city with it still active at all. I'm sure something like that is possible, but I don't know if they have animations for running and walking and emoting created for children in FFXIV yet. -
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXIII Q&A Update Thread
Manari replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
The answer to that question was really confusing. I sincerely doubt they will ever allow children to be playable. That just isn't going to happen. So what does it mean then? There's a very good chance that we are just looking too much into the vague response. I'm certain both of those NPCs are just NPC children like you see all over the cities for other races. And that's not quite what I meant about the ears. Yes I have been told that cat's ears grow faster than their heads. But those ears on the children aren't even the same shape, and they look bigger than the adult Miqo'te ears. -
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXIII Q&A Update Thread
Manari replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I want to disagree, because I am almost certain that is just another Miqo'te child, but I can't deny that her stubby tail draws serious attention. I noticed it the first time I saw the screen shot, and I've never found the girl in Mor Dhona yet, but if her tail isn't stubby, then I think there's a story behind that pink haired catgirl. Whether or not she's a hybrid remains to be seen. Her ears look BIGGER than a normal Miqo'te's but they are also shaped differently. Then again, the ears look similar to the child in Mor Dhona. Also, Mithra children in FFXI had different shaped ears than the adults too, also cute stripes on their.... fur? Did they have fur? I'm getting off topic. Either way this has become an interesting mystery for sure. -

I'm pretty sure that's just a Miqo'te child. Though Miqo'fell would be awesome and I'd play one for sure. -
This reminds me of a question I've had ever since 2.0 launched. In 1.0 the woodsin and greenwrath were very prominent in the Gridanian storyline. But even since 2.0, I haven't noticed anyone mention it, and you certainly never see it happen as you did in 1.0. I remember a reason for this, though if I'm being honest I can't remember if I read this in game or made it up in my head as a possible reason for not seeing any greenwrath, but is Dalamud cutting deep wounds into the Twelveswood the reason we never hear or see anything about the greenwrath in 2.0? As in the elementals have been weakened or are healing or somesuch and therefore can not enact the greenwrath as they once could? Or did I skip a cutscene on accident and I just missed it?

Hahaha, yeah this is an ancient thread with an ancient source of RP drama. I haven't actually seen this one come up recently. But way way before we were arguing over whether or not you can ICly be a White Mage, we were arguing over whether or not you could RP your FFXI character traveling to Eorzea.

Absolutely no part of Alexander sounds like any fun, just misery and frustration exactly like coil. I've always hated how hunts work and refuse to stress myself out with running around and shouting and not getting invited to parties. I suppose I'm going to be in the same boat as the OP after I finish the main story and reach level 60. Since I almost always have to play the game alone, once single player content runs out and I get sick of random DF runs, I tend to stop playing and just RP. Maybe I start leveling all my 50 jobs to 60, but then when I remember I don't have the friends or playtimes required to endgame, I ask myself why I'm even bothering with it.

Manari has been an assassin type character since before ninja was added. Before I used Gladiator and the daggers they used to have to represent this. Now I obviously have an easier time using Ninja and all it's gear to assemble a good RP outfit for her assassin role.

Wow, mega necro bump. This thread is blast from the past. I remember when this discussion was new. Back at the very beginning of FFXIV, I remember a lot of people RPing their characters from FFXI. It was almost as common as being an exile from Ishgard is now. Some people RPed something as simple as they got on a boat and it ended up in Eorzea, and many others used the cavernous maws as their gate to Eorzea. Then around the time I really started getting hard core into FFXIV RP, this kind of thing was sort of considered taboo, but this was long before 2.0 or the Shantotto event. SE has been screwing around with the lore ever since 2.0 making all kinds of silly things happen in the lore.

I haven't finished the quest line fore Machinist, but it's my understanding that the soul crystal they use is artificially manufactured. At least that's what they led me to believe.
