  1. I remember making a post to a topic similar to this! Like most said, the go-to place is the Quicksand. People of many different varieties frequent the place, but you must remember: it's hit and miss. Sometimes you may not get a good RP contact one night, and the next night you may get four at once. Alternatively, going to public events--adverted on the index page near the upper left and in the RPC calender--is a great way to get your character some publicity. And if there's that special someone you want to seek out and RP with? Send them a tell. The worst they can really do is say no.
  2. Elise finished her cleanup at the Duskbreak bar--part of a recent renovation endorsed by herself and the heavy drinkers of the establishment--before her eye caught a poster one of the refugees brought in with them. She picked it up with her right hand, adjusted her glasses, and looked over the images. "Love is a weird subject indeed, deary." Elise remarked before hanging up the poster on the wall behind her. With a chuckle, she set aside her cleaning supplies and closed up the area for the night before she departed to a good night's rest.
  3. I'm... conflicted over this character. Is she designed for storytelling or RPing? I'm failing to see how well she works with the latter. Additionally, here's an amazing test I found that should check your character's power level.
  4. Because that dance from 3.1 was funky, I should post a funky song. Something you can dance to in your car seat. [video=youtube] Groovy too. [video=youtube]
  5. She... probably wouldn't care too much unless you were someone with a soulstone threatening her at the time. I'd imagine an example IC dialogue would go something like this below: Elise: "Oh, you got a soulstone?" Rando: "Yes." Elise: "Dragoon?" Rando: "Yep." Elise: "Alright then." *Elise eats away on an apple tart for a moment before speaking again* Elise: "Seriously though, I need that report by this eve. No excuses."
  6. Yes and no. ICly, I fight almost exclusively with swords. It's an interesting combination of Rogue, Gladiator, and Dark Knight (without the edgelord magic); the attacks are based on how many weapons she holds and how many hands hold the weapon(s). For a D&D SRD-friendly comparison: think a cross-class Rogue/Fighter character. Basically, she uses a sword in combat but is not limited to one disciple's methods. As a balance, other martial weapons, such as spears and bows, cannot be used effectively.
  7. There's two ways I see housing. Door #1 Out of X people, Y people want to get housing. Out of Y people, Z people can afford housing. Because Y doesn't believe Z should take up all of the spaces willy nilly, they demand changes from Square. Alternatively! Door #2 Housing: "lol, I got mine." Housing on the RPC: "RIOT!"
  8. This is directed at the German gaming population: It isn't 90 days; it's 45. That's translated incorrectly. Square Response
  9. The amount of music I'd be able to put here if you could play Soundcloud links >.> Double music post! New music (Just posted to youtube on Oct 18th new!): [video=youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2z7D9-XJt4 Older music: [video=youtube]
  10. If I want to RP with someone, I'm going to be pretty nonchalant and approach them for it. If someone somehow has an RP crush on me, he/she will need to light up a signal flare just to catch my attention in-game.
  11. If someone said "Trick or Treat," she'll hand youngin's an orange and offer adults a shot of >90 proof whiskey. If someone said "Treat or Trick," she'll hand them the most glorious of all treats to grace Eorzea; one treat to rule them all... A MARS BAR!
  12. To a new beginning, Elise. The cool breeze of the ocean air enveloped her as she put her arms on the walled railings near the Aftcastle. She raised her hand and ran it through her hair slowly followed by a sigh of relief. "So, t'ere 'Lone Wolfe's 'bout ta r'tire from the Storm early, ain't she?" A rough Limsan accent spoke on her left. Elise turned her head in that direction and found the Sergeant standing there. "Aye... retirin' indeed. I'll miss beating some sense into the privates, but that's what the other Lieutenants are there for. Me? I simply did what others would not." "'Hat ye did. Lynx, was it?" She narrowed her eyes at the man on her left, scanning him once over within a brief moment. "Oh? I was unaware you were privy to that name. Not that it matters; Operation: Lynx, while clandestine in nature, is over and the woman standing beside you is none other than Elise Wolfe." A small smile on her face showed as she looked out at the sea once more. "Ye... sure she's no more? Ye were with them, Wolfe. I don't expect ye to come back as ye once were lass." "I'm sure, Sergeant. I'm entirely sure of that." She let out a small sigh before looking back at the man. "I'm being discharged honorably, at least. They didn't like that I roamed so... freely. But they did like the results." She pulls out a small knife from within her jacket, playfully spinning it a few times in her right hand. "T'were better to be an independent, I suppose. Commander said so herself; I'm better off leaving while my name isn't soured just yet." The sergeant shook his head, letting out a heavy sigh at the woman. "Sure that's 'he right choice, Wolfe? You were a Lieutenant; a commissioned officer. 'hey won't let ye back in once ye left." "I feel no regrets for this course of action." She said, almost immediately, in response. The man on her left stared at her for a few minutes, examining her. "Don't go dyin' then." he said, letting out another heavy sigh. "But if 'hat's yer choice, I've no reason to turn ye from it." He departed from the railing she was at, returning to his post stationed over near the Tempest Gate. As she watched him leave, she put the knife back into of her attire and looked out once more at the sea, before going inside of the Drowning Wench--the smile still on her face. ((OOC Note: While this would be a decent way to end an arc, this part is currently offline until further notice. Sorry to disappoint, readers; Elise is still Maelstrom right now.))
  13. Hey guys, time for a more serious thread. I dislike extracting answers from the official forums where people are banned left and right nowadays for a hint of parsing and from Reddit where one must shift through trolls and belligerents, reposting the question 20 times just to get it out there. In recent news, I'm helping out on a FFXIV Theorycrafting site that'll be similar to Elitist Jerks, Method, and Icy Veins to name a few. Since it's currently in prototype and phpBB, I'm not handing out a link yet until the transfer to IPB4 or vBulletin. While my main project will be over Ninja (aka the Prius), I'm also working on plenty of write-ups in the initial stage (peer reviewed, of course). Thus, I find myself at the RPC with these questions for one such project: Theorycrafting for Newcomers. The discussion questions are below and bolded for visibility. 1. If you were to get into theorycrafting, what are some things you would like to know? 2. What are concepts from/of theorycrafting you believe most people should know about?
  14. If you don't let yourself be healed quickly at a public event, then you're causing a problem for every other person involved in the RP around you, especially if said event incorporates logistics operations. Other places? Do whatever does not break lore I suppose.
  15. Gridania: The locals have a grudging respect for her, but she's known to butt heads with the Wailers. It has something about "how can you people live with these elementals?" and the way they do things in the area, according to witnesses. Ul'dah: Grindstone Overseer. Lady of Lies. Contact is avoided because people are unsure of her capabilities. Both respected and feared. Limsa Lominsa: Highly respected. Ties with the Rogue's Guild and the Maelstrom; mentioning her name yields talks of admiration about "the young Lieutenant" and her small, yet important, order on the fields of Carteneau. Another nickname assigned to her by the lower ranking solders is "Lone Wolfe" for the quantity of solo operations she's completed. Even with the nickname no one is questioning her ability to lead. Ishgard: Hyur who worked over at the Skysteel Manufactory for a few moons then left. Still an outsider. Ala Mhigo: Who? Revenant's Toll: Who?
  16. Elise sat on a bench at the docks in La Noscea, listening to the water flow as it made its way around the island. There was a meeting arranged with an old friend, one whom she'd not seen for the past few moons. In her hands she read through the various articles, shifting through the Bronco Grease adverts and stories, stopping with the engagement announcement at one name in particular. Jameson Taeros. You should keep an eye on Melkire. Just in case. The words drifted back into her mind--ones long forgotten yet ever present. The very words she said to Ser Castille in the first few weeks as an Overseer for the Grindstone after the events in the Black Pit. Though the effort she spent to eliminate the man was minimal at best, a sour taste lingered in her mouth; a man killed yet back from the dead within a cycle's time. There was a missing piece here... some reason for his return. Some other entity that gave him a second chance at life. While she thought on the matter, she read through the article three times before setting the lantern closed and in her lap. Looking out into the distance, she thought about her current life: she was offered a place to stay at Duskbreak, fell in love with a cheerful and free-spirited Miqo'te, and set aside many demons from her past while a demon herself. Before she thought any further, she heard footsteps approaching from behind. Turning her head slightly left while gazing forward, she talked with a small smile on her face. "It's been far too long. We have catching up to do, C'kayah."
  17. Put me down for player event 2 as well. Can sub out if it gets full and another new player wants in though. EDIT: Orrin is replacing my extra sign-up here.
  18. I'd be more to seeing my character as the Death card over the Hermit. Either works though. I tried for a bit of symbolism too. Name: Elise Wolfe Job/Occupation: NIN/GLD/DRK || In character: Maelstrom officer. Known Grindstone Overseer. Screenshot Links: Right here. Edit: Hermit > Death, now that I've read up on them more. Also, that's an apple in her hand.
  19. Disclaimer: I'm going with the assumption most people have gone to the Quicksand before. I'll even include being part of an FC here. It's a Thursday afternoon, your usual RP partners aren't around, and you're itching for some quick RP so you head on down to the Quicksand. Walk on in, and what do you find? 20-30 people there, maybe more or less. A random and totally peer-reviewed study shows 90% of these RPers have some derivation of "Walk-ups welcome!" in their search info. With everyone wanting walk-ups, surely more RP would ensue. That ideal scenario doesn't work here. Of the 90% mentioned earlier, a new study indicates 60%-70% of those "Walk-ups welcome!" crowd are simply meandering around on the railing, which leads us to the dreaded wallflower--the elephant in the room. Another scenario includes free companies where members expect the officers and leaders to create most--if not all--of the RP for them. Even with the burden of creation off the member's shoulders, people still resort to wallflowering. The question is below: What are possible and probable solutions to reduce or even eliminate "wallflowering" among RPers?
  20. Eh. I think I'm going to do better than words. Image sounds good, mostly because I'd rather not C+P all of that stuff here.
  21. Elise glanced down at the map, scrutinizing the details the paper held with its black sketches and red markings. Her eyes drifted over the map towards the Shroud, landing on a spot directly south of the Redbelly Hive. She placed a hand there, touched the map with her index finger, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes, exhaling just once... She opened her eyes and found herself in the Twelveswood once more. The ambience, the air, and even the sounds of animals in the distance made the experience surreal. Sitting behind a rock, she quickly examined her gear once more. Blades, knifes, medical supplies, a book with a few geometries; all of her gear was still intact. Peeking up from cover, she scanned the area for others nearby. Besides herself, she saw a patrol of two Redbelly archers making their rounds in the nearby area. Elise unsheathed one throwing knife from her coat and held in it her right hand. She was at a disadvantage; the enemy knew the territory better than she and they outnumbered her two to one. Her only advantage, however, was the element of surprise--Redbellies aren't used to dealing with a Rogue's tricks, and they certainly aren't expecting a lone wanderer to make an attack out of nowhere at them. Weighing her options, she stealthfully made her move across the terrain, hiding behind a tree and waiting for the Redbellies to pass by. As planned, both archers passed by the woman without detecting her. With the chance at hand, she crept along and kept her distance for a few yalms. When both archers had turned their heads forward, she charged towards the nearest enemy, covering his mouth with her left hand and stabbing him in the right kidney with the sword in her right hand. A muffled yelp was given for half a second, but the other archer kept walking ahead unaware. When her first target stopped struggling, she darted eastwards into another bush to get out of sight. The other archer took a few more steps but stopped, muttering to himself a few words. He slowly turned around and saw his dead companion on the ground. For the archer still alive, what was supposed to be another daily patrol became a life or death situation. Drawing his bow he prepared himself for combat, occasionally rotating while pacing towards the dead corpse to avoid another ambush. The moment he kneeled down next to the man, Elise made her move and appeared from the bush. The rustling of the leaves made the archer turn around, quicking taking an arrow and almost firing his bow in the direction of the sound... but it was too late. Elise stood behind the man with the small knife in her hand and made a stab at his left temple. The shock and sudden surge of pain paralyzed the man into letting out a quick gasp, stopping him from yelling for help. Pulling the blade out from his head, blood spouted out for a brief moment and soon turned to a slow, steady stream. Her targets were down on the ground and the mission was done. She glanced around the area and darted off once more towards the trees, taking cover. Seating herself on the ground she pulled out a small cloth to wipe the blood off her blade and sheathed the weapon again. Letting out a sigh, she closed her eyes and finally relaxed once again... Eyes opened once more, she kept her hand pointed at the spot on the map before returning to her scrutinization. She lets out half of a sigh. "At least the map will prove useful when I roam Eorzea." She lets out half a smirk. "Even the finer details are sketched so nicely..." Rolling up the map, she pockets it back within her coat and soon heads out the door. It was time to do another job as Lynx.
  22. Remember to have a clean discussion, follow rules, etc. etc. I'm just a poster, not a mod. Here's the question I'm going to ask: How many areas can a person be skilled in before they are considered "skilled in too many areas?" Have at thee, RPC!
