  1. When push opportunities turn into pull opportunities, i'll know i'm doing well. Until then, i'm only RPing because its a form of entertainment.
  2. I'm using a female toon in-game, so if I had to pick from the female side? 8, 16, or 21. Think 21 is currently in the lead of those three?
  3. *checks out the title* So. You're desperately seeking RP, and have found yourself in a bind amongst the many cliques and other RP inner circles. Maybe there's that one person you've always wanted to meet too, but never quite had the chance. Perhaps you couldn't find a reason ICly or the other party in question couldn't give you the time of day. It's good that you're taking the initiative to find RP. I can respect that. Like Macho Man Randy Savage saying you're the "cream of the crop" respect that. However, considering the recent thread title change I can safely assume you're not selling yourself to your audience well (aka the other RPers). So let me give you an RP to try. It will be crazy. It will be insane. You may even chastise me for suggesting such an idea on an open forum for all to see. But you're going to have to start somewhere. Advertising yourself through your emotes and dialogue is one of the best if not the best ways to put your character out there. You don't even have the follow the entire scene I'll present below! Just think of something unique with plenty of punch to captivate the crowd. Here's the RP: 1. Go to the Quicksand. 2. Bring a vanilla cake with you. 3. Sit down at a table. If you do it during the prime time hours, you're bound to have at least 20-30 people there, waiting for something to talk about. 4. Eat that cake like you're making love in a sweet ERP scene. Get creative, show off your syntax, diction, emotion, parallelism, and all that stuff English majors go crazy for. The world is your oyster. Own it. 5. Make sure this is done in /say or /em. Doing it privately defeats the entire purpose. 6. If people don't start walking up to you after a display of epic proportions greater than the Grindstone flex-off, then you can come back to RPC and start seeking out RP connections once more. You did what you could; that's what counts. If however, you do get people engaging you ICly after such a display? Break the ice. Establish a contact. Start RPing. Make some new connections and get a fancy rumor on your wiki page. On a more serious note though: Hit me up in-game if you want to try something.
  4. Magical or not, the presentations definitely sound interesting to me on an OOC/IC level.
  5. You're thinking of Shadewalker, which transfers 80% of Ninja's generated aggro to the target. Smoke Screen only reduces the amount of enmity a target regenerates. Proceed to insult the ninja if they throw SS on a tank unless mechanics dictate otherwise.
  6. Every RP I've done with Aya gave me at least a few chuckles OOCly (and a few ICly). She's highly recommended in my books!
  7. Elise starts out as a temporary character with much higher stats than your character in the beginning stage of the game, much like Auron in the beginning of FFX. In Disc 2 (of a 3 Disc game), the player may receive a side quest for her to join your party if you can best her in one of two challenges; a battle of wits or a trial by combat. The former goes through a lengthy dialogue while the latter is a fight between her and the hero/heroine. As a party member, Elise uses the abilities of both a Samurai and a Ninja.
  8. For me? INTJ. Theorycrafting and engineering; I don't know what I expected. Introvert(28%) iNtuitive(12%) Thinking(44%) Judging(31%) You have moderate preference of Introversion over Extraversion (28%) You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%) You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (44%) You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (31%) For Elise? ENTJ. Extravert(31%) iNtuitive(28%) Thinking(44%) Judging(28%) You have moderate preference of Extraversion over Introversion (31%) You have moderate preference of Intuition over Sensing (28%) You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (44%) You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (28%)
  9. Event 3. Tentative. It's more likely I'm leaving early rather than arriving late. I'm betting he/she's a dubious person who tries to escape the gaol and then we'll need a combat character to forcefully restrain him/her.
  10. "Two apple tarts, please." Elise said to the merchant before handing over the appropriate gil. Ul'dah was better than Limsa Lominsa in one regard; the Sapphire Exchange. Apple tarts in hand, she munched on one while walking down the lane and glancing at the other wares in the stalls. She stopped near the marketboard to pick up the Lantern's latest edition, browsing through the contents. "...Bronco--oh not these again." She pauses to let out a sigh and mutters to herself. "The product isn't even being sold at the Grindstone in the first place!" Elise looks over the pages once more, spotting the drawings near the top. "...Hells, that's Leanne on there." With a free hand she rips out the page from the newspaper, taking care not to damage it. "She looks much better in person, though." She rolls up the page and stashes it away inside of her coat, first heading towards the postmoogle and then the Quicksand for a decent night's rest.
  11. Item Flavor Text: Wind-up Elise This recreation of the young lieutenant comes with a pair of tiny daggers, a small longsword, and a mini grimoire for all combat situations. Use item to acquire the Wind-up Elise minion. Minion Guide: Wind-up Elise Commissioned by the Maelstrom after her promotion to Second Storm Lieutenant at 21 cycles, the automaton's purpose is providing morale to and assisting Maelstrom soldiers in the field. The goldsmith who designed her neglected the company's officer uniform, but the automaton's successful implementation quickly overshadowed the error. Behavior: Obedient Interactions: Wind-up Elise will (attempt to) assist you in combat. Weapon used is randomly selected at the start of combat. On /beckon, Wind-up Elise climbs to your shoulder. Wind-up Elise will eventually read a book after a period of no activity.
  12. Ninjas have 11% at 51-60? Funny how the other dps classes are talked about so frequently and the quietest one is the one with the highest number in the HW level range. Go Ninja, go Ninja, go. Edit: Wait. They're running those numbers based on how many people actually have the class. Whatever, we have plenty at endgame at least.
  13. Elise Wolfe: Same: - Assertive, pragmatic, and snarky. - Ability to use a firearm. - Ability to lead a group of people. - Both enjoy seafood quite a bit. - Willing to try new, exotic things every once in a while. - Open to change based on evidence. - Level headed when talking about controversial topics. - Age. I won't have to remember another number; that's it, really. - Having the occasional joke is necessary. - Easy going, and serious when needed. Different: - Gender (Elise = female and Leggerless (me) = male). - Military experience. She's a low ranking Maelstrom officer (2nd Lt.). My military knowledge is based off excerpts from Field Manuals, raid leading in video games, and google searches. - Swordsmanship and magical ability. - Knows more history. - Has killed many people. - Inclined to commit 'criminal' acts if she is completely confident she can get away with it. - Wears glasses. Less of a fashion statement and more of a handy tool--if not necessity--when she reads. - No crafting ability. She can understand how the product is made, but she cannot create DoH crafts herself. - Can ride a horse/chocobo. - She's at least 10x more fearless than I am. Smiling at Death fearless, in extreme cases. - Romantically dense. It's a foreign concept to Elise. - Low tolerance for alcohol with Elise. I'm sure there's more differences; the ones listed are what first came to mind.
  14. To answer the OP: Yes; a "genius" character can be roleplayed by the dumb. Will you be successful at it? Depends on your BS skill level. Take for example how easily someone can manipulate statistics to sound smart, presented below:
  15. Also, my very first RP I did when I came to Balmung? A monologue with a vanilla cake. Sweet, delicious cake. I had to start somewhere.
  16. This took longer to think about than I care to admit. Elise (Lynx) would be the type of student who adheres well to authority yet is secretly exploiting the rules for her benefit at every chance she gets. Her grades would be a combination of A's and B's; A's in sciences, mathematics, and law and B's in all other subjects. She doesn't have many friends but she doesn't avoid socializing every now and then. She's not the most attractive person out there, but she isn't very ugly either. Elise doesn't actively seek out trouble; it either comes to her or is a by-product of her actions. A dark sense of humor lines her words, which can put off most people trying to know her better. In reality, it's her way of coping with a lot of violence in her past. She also carries a concealed switchblade on her person at all times. Other students look at her like a quiet authority figure; even the hoodlums, troublemakers, and other kids prone to showing off their strength display grudging respect for her. The goody two-shoe students aren't any better as they're on guard and wondering if she'll backstab them. Students who are mostly indifferent, got plenty of other things to do, the military type, or are carefree won't mind her presence as much; they may even welcome it. She refrains from exercising authority unless necessary, lest she is seen as openly abusing her power. If there were a phrase to describe her, it'd likely be "a lynx with glasses."
  17. Elise sat at a table in the Manufactory, evaluating one of the new designs expected to start production before the next moon. She glances to her left, spotting this flyer, and pauses. With a quick swipe of her right hand she grasped the flyer and slid it across the table to the candlelight to read it. "Hm. Bronco Grease. With a picture of a... good looking, yet scantily clad woman whom I may or may not have seen before." She let out a sensible chuckle, but read further down, her eyes widening in surprise. "5 gil a bottle?! Now there's--wait. How big of a bottle though..." She plops her chin on her left hand to ponder over whether or not this item is worth the cost of traveling to and from Ul'dah. A smirk on her face soon emerges and she places the design back in the container she got it from. "I'm going to investigate a substitute for firesand, so I'll be gone for today--possibly this week. Remember to meet the quota, everyone." she says, loud enough for the workers to hear. With a wave of her hand, she exits the building.
  18. Sometimes, I wish there was a special kind of event here. The kind where you're asked to collect 10 wolf hearts, but as you start killing them off you find there are some wolves walking around with two hearts and some wolves with no hearts. One quest after another, you're all of a sudden issuing a quarantine to stop the local infestation within the Shroud. Number 2 sounds close enough to that wish. We'll do that one.
  19. Originally my character concept included a dark and gritty past (e.g. what Aaron said about "both parents dead"). Thankfully, after a few months of actually RPing it out, I realized it wasn't the type of character I enjoy playing so I rewrote parts of my background story to... seem more cheerful. Still a criminal character, of course, but nowhere near as gritty and more fun to RP as.
  20. I'll take an invite to the linkshell. Leggerless Hanzou.
  21. People do offer advice. It's done in-game and in the form of multiple guides such as one, two, three, four, five, and six (not so much a "guide," but it offers advice anyway), excluding Youtube, Reddit, and random tidbits of information spread out everywhere. Telling someone to "git gud" however does not qualify as proper advice, but it does qualify them for the "elitist jerk" achievement (acquisition rates increased with the 3.05 patch, last I checked). I would say screw parsers and other third-party programs used with the game, but they have good intentions when theorycrafting formulas/concepts. (Example 1 and Example 2). Used to make a person feel like a complete failure though? Not a good reason. The only time I talk parser numbers with someone is when they asked me about the rotation they're using; I then check if they're using food, pots, and their opener/base rotation as they're significant factors. Outside of that? Maybe comment on why they aren't using a certain skill (e.g. Ninja not using Shadow Fang/Mutilate), but that's about the extent of it. Isn't this a true enough statement. The days of 2.0 and Wanderer's Palace speed runs are returning to 3.0. Hilarious because its stupid, yet detrimental to the community because it happens anyway.
  22. Elise examined the schematic for one of the newest Handgonne designs. The schematic laid flat on the tabletop, while a prototype fit in both of her hands. She opened compartments, checked for handling, and checked for the weight. She even placed a dummy bullet to see if the projectile would fit. Compared to a Musketoon or Rifle, the Handgonne is supposed to be far more compact; the goal was to make the weapons more accessible to the general population, afterall. Yet, even with the Handgonne in her hand, her mind drifted to other thoughts. The allies Kiht mentioned to her, the incidents that are happening here in Ishgard. She quickly set the weapon down over the schematic. A loss of concentration now while handling a delicate weapon could break it; a risk she will not take. She pushes the schematic and weapon off to her left and brings the still hot bowl of Dagger Soup in front of her, taking the spoon in her right hand and slowly eating away at the meal. The heartiness of the soup, thanks to the combination of fish and leek, set her at ease and she soon leaned back into her chair entertaining her thoughts for a few, brief moments. Let's see... two allies. One of them a paladin, and the other... a fighter of some sorts? I hope this meeting will result in something worthwhile, rather than a waste of time. I did my part in restricting one supplier for this odd Garlean, but I suspect more to be done if we intend to pose a threat. She snapped back to the scene with the soup in front of her. She quickly finished the rest of it off and set aside the empty bowl with the spoon inside. With her left hand, she pulled the schematic and weapon once more in range and began work once more.
  23. *snip snip* It's just a matter of the format that you can't "force" authority on someone without metagaming and godmoding to some degree. The best you can really do is present yourself as a figure of authority as best you can and hope everyone plays along. I feel pretty lucky (and continually surprised and honored, in fact) that people openly consider Judge A Big Deal and will often listen to him if things start getting rowdy. And even then there's plenty of folks who would likely ignore his position as Overseer and continue to do their own thing regardless. The best I can do in that situation is try to intercede and hope they're willing to compromise a little bit for the sake of the event. Ahah, there's the example I had on my mind but couldn't quite write it down! Having done the Overseer business myself, I can confirm the "cannot force authority" segment. I'll concede the event has participants who already know not to mess with the Arbiter/Overseers so that eliminates over half of the potential drama. The best you can do is, like he says, establish yourself as an authority figure (guard, noble, etc.) and hope they will listen or compromise.
  24. PlanetSide 2. Nowhere near the frequency back then since I play FFXIV and dropped out of the inter-server competition management scene, but it's casual. Considering ArcheAge again, after I played it in early access release to Auroria? Definitely thinking Ollo server the next time and not Salphira though. Not planning on a Blighter, even with the guide I made back then. Necromancer seems fun, at least.
