Use of Houses

I pondered linking that, but decided against it. The purpose of that thread seems to be promoting RP in other places that have an established purpose (Bars, crafting houses, shops and workshops, etc). The idea for this thread is to find entire buildings that don't have a purpose. For instance, a player left the game (Or rarely logs on) but wouldn't mind their home being put to use on occasion should someone require a plot setting that can't be provided by the game world (Case in point, J&H are looking to borrow someone's home for a night for an internal murder mystery-like event.). Players with multiple plots, players who own a home but really don't find much use for it, so on and so forth. Eorzea is a wide and varied place, with some stunning vistas to take in, but when it comes to buildings to explore and put to good use? There it could use some variety, and I'm hoping this might solve that.
2. An idea born of a rather strong need occurred to me as I was typing this out the first time: A lot of players/FCs don't own a house, and the current state of selling/trading houses is, last I checked, either up in the air or against SE's terms (I could well be behind on this). However, even if it turns out that it's all well and good to sell a plot, there's still that rather pronounced shortage, both of actual plots and people/FCs with enough gil, and so... the idea. Would people be willing to list their house as 'rentable' or able to be borrowed for an eve should, for example, a FC or personal story require the use of a building? Or better yet, are you aware of anyone who owns a house but left the game, and wouldn't mind it being put to use? Or have multiple plots that may well be unused, and not mind the others being given a purpose? Or... well, there are lots of possibilities and ways to word it, but the idea is the same. A plot that could be requested for use at a specific time for a purpose, or is no longer used and available for 24/7 usage. If the idea appeals to you, shout out down below with the owner and location (and theme of the plot/building if applicable) and I'll update this post with the details. (Also, that great need mentioned in the first line? J&H would be looking to borrow a location tonight *Nod*) Edit, because people are getting confused: The idea for this thread is to find entire buildings that don't have a purpose. 3. Would SO have nabbed a Tirpitz if they didn't try to bundle it with gold and premium time to inflate the price : / But, that seems to the done thing for them, now. It's happening to the new tanks, too.
4. *Bump* Depending on whether people play on EU or NA servers, I'd be game for some good, organised platoon work, sometime! Tanks: Along the British line, I'm working on getting the second turret for the Centurion 7/1, and suffering through the Black Prince grind towards the Caernarvon. With the Germans, used to have a E-75, but ended up selling it and working along towards the Jagdtiger. I'm in two minds about going back to the E-line, still, to be honest. Also used to have a G.W. Tiger P that I'm pondering getting back, but for the time being I'm playing around with a li'l ol' Grille. Also pretty close to unlocking the Indien Panzer, have a T-25, an E-25, and a Pz.Kpfw S35 739 (f). Along the Sovient line, it's pretty limited. An SU-100Y, and the almighty Tetrarch. Very tempted to get the derpmeister KV-2 back, that was really rather good fun... Oh, and the M-24 Chaffee from the 'murican line, and the Type 95 Heavy for the Japanese. In short, can join you in just about any role, and more than happy to do so :3 Warships, it's a more spartan selection. The Arkansas Beta, Wyoming, and Cleveland from the 'murican line, the Mutsuki for the Imperial Japanese Navy, and the rather wonderful Warspite from my home nation. Really hoping the British line makes it in before the Russians, but not going to hold my breath. I don't suppose anyone's considering Armored Warfare, are they?
5. Wellp, I voted, but I'll weigh in, too. I'm going to take a risk with a sizeable statement here... I've never seen people use " " to denote IC chatter in an MMO before. (Or if I have, never on a large enough scale to take note of it). "NOOB!" I hear you cry! "You've not been RPing long then, nub!" I hear others cry, but then... I've been doing this for the best part of 15 years now, since the days of Ragnarok Online, Everquest and Neverwinter Nights. RPers in those games, and many onwards, have historically tended to assume that what happens in /s or /say is in-character (Helped somewhat by having dedicated roleplay servers, but even with the lack of such? It's often quite simple to determine who's IC and who's not. Running around with their levelling subligar all up in your face, rabbit-hopping all around, or spamming actions etc). If it's out-of-character, it is/was denoted by (( )). What's happened in /em, /e, etc. tended to be heavily leaning towards the action or emote, and any chatter within said emote is then, yes, marked with quotations for clarity but was generally kept to a minimum. (I'm guilty of chatting in the middle of an emote as much as anyone else, I'm sure.) And it's something I'll continue to do, especially as FF allows me to clearly differentiate between emotes and chatter by colouring the two differently - it goes a long way towards scanning a busy scrolling, chatlog (Along with indents for time, too. That really helps clarify where one person finishes speaking and another begins!) I can see the benefits of using quotations in /say to squeeze in emotes, of course. If you have a lot to say, for instance, and need to fit in gestures for emphasis, but then there's an issue with that... what if, in the course of your character delivering their spiel, with wild hand waving and crazy tap-dancing, someone's character would naturally want to interrupt? By breaking it down into clear /say and /em, it gives people time to read and respond appropriately. If they do interrupt, then end what you're typing with "-..." at whatever point you're at, and react accordingly. Just makes the roleplay a little more interactive, I think. This could probably have been worded in a more structured, cohesive manner, but... eh. Typed as the thoughts came.
6. Jackal & Hide are proud to present: The 15th Sunny Seaside Bar Mmhmm, we're back again folks! And this time (once more), the entertainment falls squarely 'pon the shoulders of our budding, adventurous guests for the eve. (That's you. All of you. You're our guests.) The shelves are stocked, the glasses are gleaming, and the stools are sturdy. All is in place. For what, I imagine hearing you ask? For your ideas, that's what (Twelve have mercy on us). For this week, for the entertainment of folks on both sides of the bar, we'll be giving you the chance to go nuts, let that imagination go wild, and create your very own drink for the brave souls and stomachs that want to be the judges. As ever, our 'doors' open at the nineteenth bell, and we'll give you alcoholics an entire bell (Or so) to come up with imaginative, creative names and mixing ideas. Then? Then, at the twentieth bell we'll be clearing out from behind the bar, and handing it over to our flock of fledgling mixologists to create their compelling concoctions to the delight of all, and to the intoxication of the chosen few. Judges will be picked on a first-come, first-served basis, and better have stomachs of steel at the very minimum, 'cause we'll not be providing buckets beyond those the entrants choose to serve their drinks in. Winning entry gets a special place in our hearts, and more importantly, a place on our menu*. Beyond that? It'll be another night of sun-kissed (Rain-drenched) relaxation. And we rather hope to see you all there! Regards, Kilid *That menu's coming, don't worry!
7. The (small-ish) steel wall of Jackal & Hide. The waist-high steel wall? Fence?
8. Ladies. Fellas. Yes, you can touch him, if you really want. (More esoteric gear, yay!)
9. Howdy folks! Busy busy busy times indeed for the Jackals of late, what with two Missing Member events, two Sunny Seaside Bar events (including the six month anniversary! Where does the time go?), another successful salvage operation, the loss of a loved character, the appointment of a new officer, the beginning of the Jackalendar shots, a trip to the Golden Saucer, and still yet more! Although before we get started on this, first let me give a huge congratulations to Aeron, who has the dubious honour of being given the grand title of Agent! May his reign of terror be sweetened by the collective tears of our foes! (But in all seriousness, congratulations on becoming an officer! We'll try not to dump too much work on you. Semi-promise!) (See more of this gallery here) The Missing Member continues to be our weekly FC gathering point, for regular catch-ups, socialisation, and the occasional drunken dare to dive off the tower into the frigid waters below. Naturally, we keep the event open to just about anyone who'd want to come and join in! Don't be afraid to leap into the RP, or even to whisper if you're looking for an 'in' to the proceedings somehow, folks! We don't bite unless you pay a special fee. (See more of the first gallery here, and the second here!) The Sunny Seaside Bar celebrated a whopping twelfth event for its sixth month anniversary by hosting a tasteful cook-off event! It was a great night, and a great milestone, and it's only great because of the people that continue to turn up and make it what it is, so a great big thank you to everyone that made it that night, and any other night! We love you all. This was followed a fortnight later by the (un?)lucky 13th, which garnered one of our largest crowds yet and saw the Jackals lose their first ever external Dodgeball tournament! We regained some honour by winning the final match of the three, but still, our congratulations for the night go to the Kindred for winning those first two rounds. (See more of this gallery here) Jackal & Hide struck again! Or, to be precise, our salvage operation did. A risky excursion to the Umbral Isles paid dividends, as the wreck of half of a Garlean cruiser was plundered of salvageable materials, and a small amount of surviving technology that should fetch a tidy little sum once fenced off into the correct hands! With, of course, a small amount set aside for our eager engineers to play with down in the depths of the workshop... (See more of this gallery here) After all the excitement of late, a break was definitely on the cards, and being Jackals, we did it with style! An all-expenses-paid trip to the Saucer, filled with games, gambling, and gluttony helped to ease the stress we've been feeling of late, although some things still weigh heavily on the collective FC's mind... (See more of this gallery here) ... such as the passing of Romimo Romi. The news was broken to the company as a whole not long after Locke brought the terrible news to Inarah and Kilid. While no body was found, an excursion to the site of her fateful last moments was made by Inarah, Kilid, Kheja, and Locke in the hopes of finding... something. The head of her staff was successfully recovered, which is... something, right? A proper send-off is in the works. It'll be grand. Romi would have loved it. (See more of this gallery here) And, of course, not to mention the myriad other smaller and personal events that take place inbetween! Several personal plots are currently in the works (And as I type this, one is happening right now!), and, naturally, we encourage of more you to start stories too! More stories, more RP. More RP, more fun! More fun... hells... MOAR E'RYTHING! Hope to see you all in Emoarzea soon!
10. Its super late here, so a proper writeup will come after a good nights sleep! In the meantime though, have some screenies snapped during the night! And a HUGE thanks to everyone that turned up and made it enjoyable! See you all in a fortnight <3 http://imgur.com/a/Ugz7n
11. This is appropriate! We open in 25 minutes~
12. Jackal & Hide are pleased to present... (... once again!) The Sunny Seaside bar XIII: Thal's Balls! Aye, ye read that right, Thal's balls! It's been bleeding hot of late, and we felt it appropriate to just get that off our chest now. (Don't ask what Thal's balls were doing on our collective chests) We're rather fond of the ol' dodgeball, and after the success of our six-month anniversary event, felt the need to turn the figurative heat down and take it easy this week, with some relaxed chat, chilled drinks, and bright fireworks. Did I mention we'll be setting off small fireworks throughout the night? No? Of course I did, go back and read this! It says it just above here. As ever, for those averse to a little fun and games, the bar will remain open after the twentieth bell to continue serving drinks and company for the less active individuals. On the offchance EVERYONE heads on down, then we'll just pack up a few crates and move the bar down to the sands for a while. Everyone's a drunken winner regardless! Except the losing team. (Looking at you, Kindred.) Hope to see new faces there! Kilid and the Jackals. Mmhmm! The usual Dodgeball rules apply for those in the know. For those not, we detailed it a few posts back. Say... here, for instance! So read up if you haven't. If you really don't want to, then just turn up on the night and observe a game or two. It's really easy to pick up, and great fun! Casual, relaxed RP will continue for those up at the bar for those who want it, too! We leave no RPer behind (Whenever possible, chatscroll-mistakes ignored!)
13. Ladies and gentlemen. The sexiest damned WARcat to ever grace Eorzea.
14. *Eyes horrendously outdated wiki.* *Eyes remaining wiki pages required by alts* *Shuffles away into the shadows*
15. Amen to this! Amen so much. A bit of time spent planning and plotting, a nice post copied in a few places to let people know, and you have yourself a thing! 5Ay5GqJwHF8
16. And every fortnight, in Costa del Sol, there's the Sunny Seaside Bar. We've been running this thing every two weeks for the past six months, and intend to do so for as long for as long as people continue to come. Maybe a little longer, we rather enjoy it. It's right there on the calendar, if you're adamant about breaking away from Ul'dah RP, or just wanting a change of scenery, it's worth stopping by. We try to make it fun for folks. There's also the Missing Member every Monday (EU) night, although that's not RPC calendar-worthy, it's still something that happens.
17. *Rolls shoulders* We opened. People came, people RP'd, it was awesome. Many congratulations to our cooking contest entrants, and you all spend your winnings wisely! While I can't speak for everyone there, I had great fun reading the prepared food, and felt rather more hungry after the event than I did afore. (No, really, each of the meals sounded -fantastic- and I want to try them outside of the game. The three of you were amazing!) So what did the night look like? Glad you asked. Here's the equivalent of a few thousand words in pictures.
18. I can confidently say, no matter how the /random plays out for the next game, we'll never quite equal you guys in that last game
19. Another fortnight, another Sunny Seaside Bar passes into the annals of history. Next time will be the six month anniversary of the event! How crazy is that?! Time flies when you're scanning chatlogs to see if anyone's ordering a drink! So, how did XI fare? Pretty darn good. The bar itself was, as ever, a pretty chilled affair, with the time-honoured traditions of mingling and drinking being observed all around by our esteemed guests. As for the dodgeball? That was, in the opinion of many, the highlight. Approx. 90 minutes after the start of the event, the Jackals faced the Kindred in the first ever friendly inter-FC Eorzean dodgeball matchup. (tl: dr of the game? The Kindred came, the Kindred saw, the Jackals conquered. Sorry, Nailah :3) (In an unusual turn of events, /random was being unusually kind to us last night. This scares us, normally during our events /random has a grudge. Did you know you could roll a 0? We had a member roll a 0 during an event. Until then, none of us had any idea that was possible.) Anyway, in order to keep this brief, I'll resort to the age-old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words, and supply you with the equivalent of several thousand words!
20. Jackal & Hide are proud to present: The 11th Sunny Seaside Bar That's right folks, it's that time of the moon again! Jackal and Hide are once more stocking the shelves, polishing the counters, and opening the non-existent doors to our absolutely most favourite people ever! All of you. Another simple affair this time around. The bar for those that crave company, and a relaxed spot to sup various alcoholic concoctions, and for those feeling a little more adventurous? The sport of kings*. The game of life**. Dodgeball. The rules are the same, only the faces have changed! At the very least, yours truly will be present, on a brief hiatus from our Coerthas expedition, and I'm looking forward to seeing some of you down there on the front lines, inflated boar bladder in hand, ready to stick it to 'em! Peace, Kilid * In our opinion ** Still in our opinion Yep, same as last time. Those that took part had great fun in the dodgeball, and we want to introduce it to a few more people, ICly! Give it a try, it's clean, simple fun! Until you get caught up in it. Then it gets dirty and competitive. (Which is all part of the fun, really.) Hope to see faces old and new there!
21. Sounds like something some in Jackal & Hide could get behind. As with Nailah however, it's pretty dependant on time.
22. Less than 30 minutes until the bar! Update: And it begins!
23. The Sunny Seaside Bar IX: DODGEBALL We're gettin' this out t' ye wonderful folks a little later than we'd normally like to, but we wanted t' make sure that when we took this thing live, we 'ad it nailed down fer the smoothest experience we could give. An' know what? After some extensive testin', no small amount'ah blood, sweat, an' tears (An' bruises. Lotsa bruises.), ah think we've gone an' got it, an so... S' the great pleasure of Jackal an' Hide t' say that, this week, we'll be 'ostin' the first ever (That we know of) Eorzean Dodgeball tournament. Wha's dodgeball? No idea, weren't me that came up with the name, s' somethin' we use t' play back in the tribe t' perfect our aim an' agilty. (Ah kinda sucked at the agility part, but that ain't nether 'ere nor there.) F' those so inclined t' partake in a li'l bit'ah good-natured fun an' rivalry, we're gonna be runnin' this down on the beach t'night, away from the bar f' those that ain't that way inclined. We'll be goin' over it on the night, 'bout what's expected, so don't worry 'bout not knowin' what ye need t' do. A few'ah the Jackal's should be on 'and t' give a demonstration an' all. That's all there is to it this time! We rather hope to see faces old and new this week for the show, so... See you there! Kilid 18ASBsQfXnw Right! Where to begin with this... J&H have been testing out various rulesets and playstyles for this for a while now, and after some extensive testing, we're pretty confident we've got this nailed now. A little bit of reading is required for anyone who's interested in this, but having played or spectated all the games now... It's SO worth it :3 Everyone's who's partaken has loved it. We even had a couple of folks turn up from another FC to play the first time. They seemed to have a great time too! What you need to know (How it plays out): Unlike real Dodgeball, the balls aren't lined up in the middle for both teams to charge down and claim. Two teams will be selected from nominated captains, and the captains get to draw straws. Longest straw throws first! Also unlike real Dodgeball, it's not a chaotic free-for-all of throwing, teams take it in turns (We're assuming that each side hordes the balls until the other team has nothing left to give). Captains direct their troops call out who's throwing, and in what order. The winning team is the one that has people reaming, standing tall to bask in their glory. What you need to know (How to play, the basics): 1) Two teams, each with a leader, with as even a split as we can manage. 2) Three (Give or take, dependant on numbers) 'balls' (Inflated boar bladders). The nominated captains use /random to determine who throws, and the team with the highest random starts. Captains nominate who throws each round. 3) The nominated pick their target, and throw! (Emote your throw, and who you're throwing at, then /random.) 4) The target tries to dodge! (/random. If your roll is higher than that of the throw, you dodge! Lower, you're hit. Emote accordingly.) 5) Once one team completes their throws, the balls are gathered up for the return fire. (Teams take it in turns to throw/dodge) What you need to know (How to play, the advanced stuff): Crits! Critical hits/misses are a thing here. A roll of 1 - 50 is a critical failure, and 950 - 999 being a critical hit. What do they do? Details below. Throwing: Critical failure (1 - 50): Oops! Your target catches the ball! You're out, and the defending team can bring on an eliminated player. Critical hit (950 - 999): HEADSHOT! The player is eliminated. Not only that, but your throw was such a fine example of execution SPORTS! that the ball rebounded straight back into your waiting hands. Throw again! Dodging: Critical failure (1 - 50): Disaster! Not only did the ball hit you, but it hit at such an angle that it deflected into the player nearest you. They need to roll to dodge against the same throw that took you out, too. Critical hit (950 - 999): Yeah, you're good. You totally called their throw, and catch it with ease. The player who threw it is out, and your team brings on an elimintated player. What you don't really need to know (The optionals): Modifiers! Not everyone was made equal. Some of us are, in fact, quite naff at physical sports and exercise, while others are Gods amongst mortals, with bodies that glisten with golden droplets of sweat, and gallons of rare oils smeared on by their devoted fans. This is reflected with the optional modifier system down below. How do they work? Take a look below! First, be honest. Is your character an absolute beast of a Roe? Are they a Highlander that grinds rocks to dust with their bare hands? Or are they a scholarly sort who spends the majority of their time huddled over a book? Think about whether they'd have a bonus or a penalty to either their throwing or dodging. Decided? Good. Now, pick a number up to 100 and add or subtract it to your throw rolls. Then, half that number. If you added to your throw or dodge, subtract that halved number from the other stat. If you chose a penalty and subtracted from either your throw or dodge, then half that number, and add it to the other stat. Sound confusing? Have some examples. Kilid is quite a strong fellow. Not the strongest, but still... strong. He has +75 to his throws, but as a consequence, -38 to his dodge (We round up to the greater number, no cheating!) A large, burly Roe or Highlander might decide to add +100 to their throw. As a consequence, they'd take -50 to their dodge. A smaller Lalafell who's quite active and energetic, or a well-practiced Miqo hunter might decide they're quite athletic, and add +50 to their dodge. They'd suffer -25 to their throws. A scholarly Elezen or Lala might be honest, and accept that they'd rather suck at this sort of thing, as fun as it might be, and take -100 to their throws. They'd gain +50 to dodge. Or, you could decide that you're a pretty balanced person, and leave it as +/- 0 all round. How do the mods impact play? After your /random, we manually add or subtract the numbers in our heads. It's great practice for on-the-fly maths for yours truly! One thing to note is that your mods can't/won't trigger a critical. We tried having that, and found that crits were happening all over the place! It got... crazy. One other thing to note, is that yes, if you take a bonus, you have to take a penalty (And vice-versa). It keeps things somewhat balanced. Post below or PM me if you decide to take a modifier, and I'll make a note on our company doc for easy reference. It's a lot to take in, we know. However, worth it. So, so, SO worth it! J&H will be on hand to throw a few rounds if people want to see it in action. We're... excited about this, and hope to see a few people here tonight to give this a shot. If it's as popular outside the FC as it is inside, we might see about setting up a proper inter-FC tournament further on down the line. (With, of course, space for teams of mixed and non-FC people, too!) Really hope to see people there tonight!
24. Having never had a NES or SNES FF until being introduced to emulation, FFVII on an underpowered Thinkpad laptop that didn't quite have enough RAM but had a CPU that was JUST powerful enough to run the game in a quarter-screen window was my first FF experience Cruddy MIDI audio and all! Love it <3 still have mah original discs, in fact (Three, plus the install disc, and the manual), as well as the Steam edition. Can't wait to take on a gloriously rendered Emerald Weapon *Twiddles thumbs* ... *Dances around amidst the hate*
