Yeah, without going into spoilers I'm rather disappointed as well in all honesty... I really, truly, wished to know through which means someone could become a WHM without the Elemental's approval as that would provide some really interesting story opportunities. However given the state of things at the end of the job story line as of now, I'm hoping that'll be covered in the next expac. If not SE has some explaining to do next time they hold a lore panel... Secondly, do be careful about playing a Hearer as well for the very same reasons mentioned in the primary Conjury storyline. It's wide open for anyone to play should the mood suit them, but there are draw backs for those characters who don't actually learn how to use Conjury properly from the Stillfane Glade. However pretty much any pitfall -is- out there for everyone to see as part of the primary class quest and no one will bat two eyelashes about someone claiming their character is of that ilk. If, however, you have your heart set on playing a WHM in-character then by all means do so! However, do be aware that there are people who will either not have their characters take you seriously ICly, or who will outright avoid RPing with you. That said you're bound to find a group of people who don't mind it over much, just be aware that out of all the jobs that is the one with the most lore-breaking potential to take on. At least until we know exactly -how- people can circumvent the will of the Elementals; who probably will NOT take kindly to anyone who does so.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Enla replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Guarantee you it has nothing to do with STR gear. But it does have everything to do with the amount of buffs your tanks are using. Plain and simple. Having 2.5k more HP is only 2.5k more HP that you have to heal back cuz STR tanks and VIT tanks are gonna take the same amount of damage. But a tank that properly rotates his/her cooldowns will never have an issue short of a legitimately inattentive healer. At least with STR your tanks can actually assist with self-healing, whereas that VIT tank it's 100% up to you to do all the work to heal. Another possibility is slow DPS. Which isn't necessarily because of bad DPS but possibly because DPS are undergeared for whatever raid or are still figuring out the nuances of their new post-50 job. I can't fault them for that, but if DPS is low, you can bet your tank's ass the tank and the healer are going to notice. In these new dungeons, it's not just a matter of inconvenience, it's a matter of life and death, because if a healer starts running low on MP every pull just because it's taking so long to kill a mob, my god. Which leads into my vent of the day. Bards that are using their new Wanderer's Minuet 100% of the time now. Stahp! It's hurting your dps. I, as a WAR, should not be top DPS in any 4-man party. I really appreciate you explaining the nuances of the matter Sounsyy! I haven't leveled any of my tanking classes to an appropriate point where I can entirely judge if a tank is doing their rotation and cooldowns poorly beyond how much stress it puts on me as a healer. I won't pretend I'm not at fault for some of the instances that have happened, there's been a few dungeon runs where I should have honestly gone to bed rather than inflict myself on anyone and I do my best to own up to those facts. However it's legitimately been bothering me as to why this is occurring. I can't say it's necessarily a problem of DPSing as a healer in every instance. For while I focus on healing 95% of the time, I might pop one Holy and a Cleric Stance Assize for the first two pulls to gauge the damage output and how much stress it will otherwise put on me, the moment I notice DPSing isn't going to be viable is the moment I stop entirely. Save the occasional Aero/2/3 dot. Regen is always kept up, occasionally a Medica 2 is thrown onto the ground. Depending upon the situation Assize is used as either a DPS or a Healing skill, but it's very rarely left stagnant, and Shroud of Saints is popped whenever it comes up due to the MP issues you mentioned. (And even when I use Assize as a DPS skill I almost always toggle Cleric Stance off the second the animation is done and go straight back to healing.) It just really seems like many PLD's are made out of wet paper these days is all. Trash mobs routinely hit some of the ones I've been running with for a third or more of their health even with Shield Oath activated. Though, I did have one PLD who didn't even wish to use that until it was clear that it was the only way he'd be able to keep his threat from the rest of us. It just feels like there is much more room for error with the class, as a healer observing the situation at least. Where as by contrast I literally have only had one DRK that was a minor inconvenience to heal. I almost get giddy when I see DRK's now in the queue because of how easy they tend to be to work with, which is the opposite of what many people are saying is the case. Chances are with the new expac bringing many people back to the game I just got really unlucky with runs I had to work with a PLD and really -damn- lucky with runs I had to work with a DRK. Perhaps it's a mixture of running into tanks who didn't know what they were doing, but also my being less than at my best for many of the other times it's occurred. I can accept that easily. -

It's why I always give my commendations to the DPS these days, unless the tank absolutely impresses me or the DPS are the reason we're having issues to begin with. DPS get the short end of the stick more often than not when they're just as vital a component to a successful dungeon as the rest. Also, on a more vent related subject... I have absolutely no idea why PLDs are so hard to heal for me now as a WHM. I blink, merely -BLINK- and their health has gone down by near half and I'm scrambling to bring them back to normal. Heaven forbid one of the DPS needs to be healed or I need to cast an AOE heal. I'm starting to wonder if I'm just bad but it seems I'm not the one having trouble - though I will more than admit to having some off moments in dungeons that I'm more than willing to own up to. For my SCH friends they're having trouble healing WAR's now as well. I literally, literally, can count on my hand the number of PLD's I've had no trouble healing, and after seeing Virella's post I'm starting to wonder if it might not be because they're taking STR gear to fill in gaps while leveling. -
Cosmetic gear tends to be the biggest thing, also most of the cuter minions are going for a good amount as well - though it was only the owl, panda, unicorn, etc - over a million when I checked yesterday so that might be a good investment.

The Au-Ra immgration: How is your character taking it?
Enla replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
Webbrael and Enla both take to the whole 'seen crazier shit, let's move on with our lives' mentality over it all. Enla has known two Au'Ra for several months prior to the expac dropping and had time to get used to their presence to the point where it no longer concerns her in the slightest. Webbrael on the other hand did a double take before deciding she literally had seen weirder things putzing about Limsa on a daily basis and that so long as the person wasn't trying to murder her dragon style she didn't much care. -
Miss Webb.

This. Pretty much, not that there's anything wrong with preferring one over the other - but anyone who is a fan of dubbed media knows very well just what a nose dive the quality of a product can take when the production company tries to translate everything for it's most literal meaning. Half of the nuances are either lost and even if that isn't the case most of the jokes and witticisms just frankly sail right over the dubbed market's heads because they did not grow up speaking the original language. It's why these days most producers, at least in the anime scene, are pretty much alright with the localizers taking liberties that still preserve the heart of the original but don't make the new script read like watching paste dry.

That's the dream, ain't it? A lot of times it feels like it just ain't happening in this lifetime... but then stuff like this happens. Maybe there's hope after all? With how fast social change has been coming in the last hundred years, let alone the last -ten- I wouldn't be surprised if something akin to trans acceptance starts gaining more traction in the coming decade. Hell, approval of gays jumped in the near decade since the whole recent debacle started in something that was almost nearly unprecedented. I had honestly thought that back when all this was happened and when Prop 8 was passed that I would never see gay marriage legalized until I was well and into my twilight years. Yet look at how far we've come. It's not perfect and we should never settle until gay marriage is simply known as marriage within the population at large and enjoys full equality across the country, but that sort of sweeping change in public opinion is almost unprecedented at any other time in history. It isn't just the issue of gay marriage either, so many other social issues are having sweeping changes in the court of public opinion to the point where I'm rather interested to see what things will be like in another decade. I will say though I'm honestly laughing at how so many states are trying to circumvent the ruling. At least two are debating removing the option to issue marriage licenses entirely while the rest are hurrying to pass laws that assure their constituents that -yes- people don't -have- to marry someone who they have religious objections to marrying. Why anyone would want to be married in a religious setting where the person marrying them has an objection to who they are is beyond me. I wouldn't want to ruin that sort of occasion by having, say, the pastor spit fire at me with their gaze throughout the entire ceremony. Though I'm not sure of the legality when it comes to governmental workers who are just issuing the licenses.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Enla replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I've only done Bismarck HM, but the thought of DPSing in that fight just makes me cringe. I had to be very careful with my MP, and even then I was frequently running with a near empty tank trying to keep everyone up. Mind it was my first time and in pretty 'meh' gear, so the next time I try it I doubt that'll be an issue. -

Dear tank, please get into your tanking stance. You are not a bulkier version of a DPS class, it is painful to heal you when all you're doing is spamming a low grade emity raiser as if somehow that'll help you take less hits. Even worse when you're tank stance generates emity ON IT'S OWN. Sincerely, one very irritated healer. P.S. Dear myself, keep an eye out for the portals more in the second boss encounter of the Vault. I know it's hard and that you're getting better, but it's no excuse. Edit: Why do I ALWAYS have issues with PLD now? In no particular order for this last dungeon run. Dear DPS: Don't be a jerk when people ask for mechanics and give replies 'for the lolz'. Dear Tank: If you don't know the dungeon, say something. Don't face pull immediately as you're running to the boss. Some of us want to hear how to do something. I swear if I didn't have a friend in skype to help me through it I'd have abandoned my first run of the dungeon. -
Spoilers for the WHM quest:

Perhaps she adopted it as a 'fuck you' to the Ishgardians, given the tensions between Ala Mhigo and Ishgard prior to the former being conquered?

Today was such an awesome day! The fight is long from over and you can bet that people opposed to marriage equality are going to fight tooth and nail to limit the freedoms of gay couples even though the constitutional amendment essentially makes it a loosing battle. However for today I think most of us can sit back and relax that this little blight upon our society is at least partially dealt with.

Now we just need to find out whether or not Hilda can have children herself to settle the next bit of debate that springs from having half-bred characters. Personally I loved what they did with her and want that hair style of hers BADLY.

After getting my 56 skill I have to take back what I said about Shroud of Saints. Assize more than fits the bill to help regain MP now. 10% doesn't seem like much, but boy does it help.
-
I've only gotten to 56 with WHM and didn't have time to do the next quest in the chain before the servers went down but already I have a few thoughts... Stone 3: For roughly fifty extra MP with an offset of fifty extra potency there is absolutely no reason to ever use Stone 2 ever again. Not that there always -was- a reason to use it in higher end content unless you were a stance dancing wizard, but it's nice to be able to perform better in solo content with a DPS skill that doesn't just tickle the enemy to death. Asylum: Barely worth having if not for the fact that it can be cast fairly regularly for absolutely no cost and lasts longer than a regen. However it's that free cost that makes it something I'm constantly casting while in dungeons, placing it just around the tank and melee DPS so that I don't have a aneurysm trying to keep everyone up with how hard the new mobs hit. Which leads me too... WHM desperately needs a buff for Shroud of Saints. I don't care if they up the potency or just reduce the timer by ten to twenty seconds, something needs to be done. It just doesn't cut it anymore. Not that it ever -was- useful as an MP buff in post-50 content, it's purpose usually going towards an enmity drop over anything else. Yet I've been -struggling- to keep my MP up in most of the new content no matter how I plan out each encounter to use the skill effectively. It also doesn't help that I've had several tanks honestly treat me as if I'm a SCH and thus can easily regain my MP, causing some rather frustrating moments... Of course I'm only 56, so chances are this won't be an issue by the time I reach 60 due to gear and everyone slowly learning the mechanics of each instance enough that no one is overly taxed. Yet it has been bothering me of late. Especially since enemies are hitting harder and faster in the new content, as they should of course. :dodgy: Mind, I probably am just horribad.

Loving DX11 way more than one might consider to be healthy.

I've been collecting little bits of lore here and there while playing. One of the ones I liked most was the fact that the people of Falcon's Nest trained as falconeers so that they could have a warning system against the Dravarians in case the Astrologians couldn't come through in time for them. It was nice to see something practical like that.
-
Mhm! There's more than a few people who collect the lore on these forums. Most of them don't have the time to upload it all since most of it is scattered across the game's files but if you ask they're usually able to dig something up for you. :3 Also, make sure to read quest dialogue carefully as it contains a lot of lore - though nothing is as good as the descriptions on the leves you get while leveling. Always keep an eye out.

FF7 was my first introduction to the series, and while it has long since become a game I have no real love for I'm still gladdened for all the fans of it who have had their wishes answered. I'll probably play it on PC provided the port isn't a mess, just to see what they've done different, and hope that it being successful will ensure a remake of 6 or 9 in the coming years. But, given the whole popularity scale 8 will likely be the next in line... Which I will refuse to play as I found almost nothing redeeming about that title, save Triple Triad.
-
Brand new Roedame~! I resisted the Au Ra urge and made her instead~ One of my other charries sadly, however, is no more. ;w;
-
Amauri and Sae as of late. AMAURI USES CHARM, SAE IS CONFUSED.
-
I've had it happen once before in a storyline for a character in another game, but presently I haven't engaged in anything remotely similar since coming to FF. With that said if someone comes up with a good enough plot hook and asks me about it first I'm -ALL- for it. Hell, the asking part is only to make sure I don't have obligations already set in stone for that character at the time. Anything that brings my characters some form of strife is perfectly fine in my books.
-
More polished now. I still remember when it was released and people were reporting ALL THE BUGS. @.@ Sadly Obsidian isn't very good for bugs on release, good post release support though. For me however, storywise I'd go with New Vegas. More choices and your skills and attributes actually tend to be made more of use during conversations.

Same here... I don't mind unintelligent characters in some cases, nor do I mind the idea of the WoL having literal gunk between their ears as much as others might. What I DO take issue with, however, is when the only reason the writers can find to move the plot in a certain direction is to make everyone as mindnumbingly stupid as possible. Literally, the story would not have progressed to the point it did if at least one - JUST ONE- of the main Scions put on the breaks and actually THOUGHT about what they were doing. Which is made all the worse because several of the Scions ARE made out to be highly intelligent, to the point where there is simply no excuse for their failings as a group.
