If you can't find RP? That's a YOU problem. Not another person's problem. Stop being so entitled that people owe you roleplay. We never said anyone was entitled to giving us roleplay. We just feel left out. Like if you're the last person to get picked on a team. It feels the same way. Then step up. Instead of waiting to be picked last, be that person who picks the team. It's not that hard. You're making roleplay found as if it's some hard, tedious task.

If you can't find RP? That's a YOU problem. Not another person's problem. Stop being so entitled that people owe you roleplay. If you can't find it, it's your problem, no one else's. Maybe just, you know, step up instead of whine.

Reposting this. Again. People don’t owe you jack shit. If you can’t find roleplay, it is your own damn mistake. If you don’t have the social skills to pull of such characters, just don’t roleplay said character. Find a more suitable character concept fitting with your real life skill set. If you can’t pull off the “Insert random character trope in here”, guess what? Don’t roleplay it. You will be all the happier for it. But ultimately? Get your whiny entitled ass out there and make your character interesting to interact with. Now for you in specific. Next to that. At a large event? Interactions? For crying out loud, I was roleplaying in a Linkshell due to the spam. Lots of people were doing the same. The spam was ungodly to keep up with, and its about the only thing you can do keep things readable. Things get lost in the chat at such large events. Make an add on the RPC, make a post on Tumblr, go poke people in game who look interesting for roleplay. Hells, use those events to whisper people like "Can we RP at some later date, your character looks nice!" and add them to your friendlist. Don't blame others for your lack of roleplay. Get your big girl pants on and have a good hard look at yourself. Next to that? Cliques are never an issue. Cliques are a natural thing. They grow smaller and bigger over time, disband and get remade. Because ultimately those 'cliques' are likely just to be OOC friends you can be a part of as well if you actually did some effort. Your lack of roleplay or friendships in this game is solely to blame on yourself.

You're probably fucked. Mind you, some EU countries, including my own, still didn't get promo deals whatsoever so... Yeah. I suggest poking EU friends and ask if they can share codes, or send them money and let them buy something trash to get the code? I'm not sure. I can't help you either way, seeming my country is one of them who didn't have it yet.

discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Virella replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Honestly? They could add these (story) skip potions as the first month veteran rewards imo. I think that would solve the issue quite quickly as well. -
It's not the background, tropes of traits what makes them interesting I'm afraid, it is the roleplay and the execution of said background. In fact, if said trait or trope is the only thing keeping the character from being interesting, I'd say have a good look at their personality. A baker on the corner of the streets can just be as interesting as the war hero who lost and won many things. But yeah, personality and interactions is what makes or breaks an RP character, not so much the rest! I'd really suggest focusing on that, instead of trying to stand out with a backstory. Make your character enjoyable and memorable, and not just their background. Because well, that gets boring fast after you've told it a few times.

Well I've not been playing the game more than two months so honestly I'm a little asconce when it comes to what I'm looking for. Ideally I'd like a Linkshell that is just active and social, one that habitually has members involved with open RP. As for my character, she is a Miqo'te Keeper, former experience training under a merchant but now casting her sights out on the world at large as an adventurer/odd-jobs taker. Pretty simple stuff. I'll get around to making a Connections post too, sounds like a good place to start. I just want to meet some cool people and ideally provide some hosted events we can do. I am a dab hand at creative writing! Connections past is a very good start! That's how I started here back in... 2.2 as well, and have RP partners from that time still lasting. But! As a fellow merchant RPer (on an alt), I'd strongly suggest to join the monthly Sea Breeze Bazaar (link). When I'm there with my little Alchemist, I'm basically roleplaying non-stop for three hours straight. It also still starts at an reasonable ISH time (22:00 it starts till 1:00 but you can of course always leave earlier) for EU folk still. So there's plenty of roleplay to be had there, and contacts to be made!

Ala Mhigan Resistance Discord http://68.media.tumblr.com/2dcebc8d7695362e88a0ac0883f9693f/tumblr_inline_ohzhvlJfQA1trt837_500.png[/img] Due to the frequent request of having our own Discord, from this point on the Resistance LS will have their own Discord as well! You don’t have to be a part of the Resistance LS in game. We know LS slots are limited after all, and hope this is a suitable work around for people. However you are still required to use your in game name of one of characters in the Discord regardless if you join! How to join? Rules? We got you covered! Welcome to the Resistance Discord! Some simple rules to start off with. Rule 1: Keep hot topics out of the chat. We are a roleplay community, not a social medium platform. Rule 2: Don’t bring your FC or other LS drama in here. Rule 3: If you have an issue, bring it up with one of the Admins. Rule 4: NSFW material goes into the Sinbin. This also counts for non-sexual, but overly violent material ect. Posts and images both. Think of people who might be at work. This also goes without saying only people above 18 are allowed in this channel. Rule 5: We expect you to use your character’s ingame name on this Discord. This will be strictly enforced to avoid confusion, because it happens people share the same online handles! However, you may use your character name + your online handle. ‘Avelyn Firestone’ is still highly preferred, but you may also add your online handle as 'Avelyn Firestone (Ave)’. Rule 6: Be Excellent To One Another. If you do not agree or adhere to these rules, you will be asked to leave, or be removed. Thank you. Admins:Avelyn Firestone, Adun Blackblade, Shana Strongarm. Do you wish to be invited? Give one of the Admins a poke in game, or contact the Ala Mhigan Resistance LS page, or poke Avelyn on the RPC, so they can hand you out an invite. Once more, you don’t have to be a part of the Resistance LS ingame. Remind to change your nickname on the Discord to your in game character name though! Feel free to add your character to the Character List Text Channel, so people can find you easier for Ala Mhigan themed Roleplay! Keep things short and to the point though. Please post things in the appropriate channels. This is off course completely OPTIONAL! You don’t have to join if you don’t want to! ~ The Management

You probably want to give out some more information! What race, age ect are you looking for? Might help for folk who might be interested. Also a bit of information about your own character might entice people a bit more, unless you're going for the mysterious spiel angle, but I don't think that will get you far. In any case, best of luck!

New to Balmung, new to RP, kind of frightened [lgbt?].
Virella replied to Roukanken's topic in Welcome Desk
Balmung. Never. Opens. And if it does? Good luck beating the goldsellers on making new characters. At best you can pray for an immense amount of luck; server crashes ect. But... in all truth? Just transfer. Unlike other MMOs, you can transfer up to 8 character at the SAME time! So if I were you, just make a heap of characters on another server, pass the first little starting quest, and make sure they are 3 days old, and voilà, you can transfer them all for the price of one. As for LGBT friendliness? I'm pretty sure on Balmung everyone has a code of live and let live OOC. No one will bash you here for being a person who falls under the LGBT umbrella. In truth, I find finding the 'straight white male' is a hard task on Balmung! Then again somehow I ended up spending most of my time with other LGBT folk without even trying. I wouldn't be too worried about it. I do think there is an LS for irl trans people and allies though. That said, I don't think there is a trans character LS, mostly because I'm going to be very honest with you, a lot of trans characters get fetished here and there still. If you do continue to go down that route with your character, do be aware if you flaunt it left right and centre you might get accused of this. But there are some people who I know who do have trans characters, and treat it very respectfully; and no one has issues with them because yeah, they do it respectfully, not as a fetish thing. In any case, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Balmung is gay as fuck. As for level? No one cares. But you might, due to gear and all that! As long you don't start screeching 'spoilers' because you haven't finished the content yet? I don't think anyone really cares. Best of luck! -
Be a Dragoon drop out, retired one, trainee who never finished, one who got exiled for whatever reason. There's way around it. Also, I wouldn't be flaunting that gear either, I don't think Ishgard would like that either. Believe weapons and armors do get returned to Ishgard as soon as someone passed because they don't have endless supplies. Not sure if it count for Dragoon armor though. But that's still basically baiting them I'd imagine, and Ishgard does have elite assassins, and I don't think they would take well at people faking and slandering their most precious military force that way. So well! Up to you. I could be very much wrong, and things might be a lot different with Aymeric around now. Mind you, Ishgardian PC's might take that still very offensive as well. Also the training is what makes you a Dragoon, not the armor. So you still wouldn't be a Dragoon in skills, merely in appearance. I'd personally simply let go of the armor, and just be a drop of out sorts.

Management Update #N5! Due to real life needing tending to Avelyn Firestone won’t be available to contact till 12-12. For the time being you can PM Adun Blackblade if you have any questions, concerns or simply wishing to have an invite to the Resistance Linkshell. Thank you for your understanding. ~ The Management

Sounsyy had a very good post on this a while back. Tl;dr version - Anything but the Au ra.

Was time to update this! Virella isn't longer my shared main, in fact, she hasn't been for a while. While I will still roleplay her on request, she became my crafter instead. Next to that, you can always poke me for roleplay on Lyanna or my two other lesser RPed alt (my mooncat and Garlean reject), if requested. As for Avelyn, additional relationships will probably be ruled out from here on. You can try to convince her otherwise, but as far Avelyn is concerned there will be no more new partners and lovers to the few she currently has. My alts are still very much open, with the exception of Virella. However I won't have them enter into serious relationships due to the fact they are alts.

discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Virella replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'd sooner have an option to skill 'irrelevant' dumb MSQ quests. I don't care about anything up to 2.4/2.5 for the most part. I wish we could indeed get some item just to skip all those quests and go into Ishgard asap we hit 50. That would be my preference. An option for people who level alts to just skip all that nonsense. I don't care about the XP loss. Surely, it makes missing out on the storyline a bit, and I do think 'new players' shouldn't be granted this option. But I feel this game could use some more alt friendliness in that regard. However, I do think thinning out those dumb MSQ quests who add little to nothing to the story ought to be removed. Even for people who didn't have to endure it to begin with. It doesn't set a good example for the game to begin with. We all know how tedious it was, even doing it for the first time. But that's my personal opinion. As for legit jumping potions? As an RPer? AWESOME. As someone who likes to do PvE from time to time? Less awesome. You will get a bunch of people just popping the potion, not having a clue what to do with their class. While this is fine for roleplay, I don't like dumb folk in my dungeons. Granted, those same people would probably have done the same if they had to level from the start that class, seeming some just fate grinded their characters up, especially back in the days, and still feel entitled to not learn their class and just be carried, because its their 13 per month. So ultimately, I don't think much will change in that regard. But as a roleplayer, urgh, yes please. I'd love to just skip that whole damn MSQ up to Ishgard at least. But perhaps only make it so you can only boost one job class up per character? And obviously don't allow it to be used for DoH/DoL classes. -
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated! Sticking with a couple of characters on both Phoenix and Moogle for now, will try and pop into Balmung with my old character at some point (creating a new character there seems impossible unless you've got money for transfers!:cactuar: ). Fair warning, this has been the case ever since HW released. At the odd server restart or maintenance, the bots will already have flocked char creation to lock it within mere seconds. I'd strongly suggest to go digging for that extra cash! Also, unlike other MMOs, you can transfer 8 characters at the same time. Provided they fit the requirements of 3 days old at least

"This Ishgardian shite again? I swear by Rhalgr... Fine, fine. Anything you say? Well, beyond the standard 'I want Gyr Abania and me temples back' whining? That a certain fellow Brother be stopping his swiving jealously and reigns in his shite temper, and that a certain person hopefully gets hit against the head repeatedly so he may get some swiving selective amnesia when it comes down ta his swiving wife. Who knows. Any of that would be great. Else? Suppose a few purebloods Garleans, a piece of the wall and a heap of spoons would amuse me. And nay, not in the swiving way ye be thinking."

The fall of Ala Mhigo from the perspective of Garlean military
Virella replied to ARCHITECT's topic in Character Workshop
That actually isn't... true. Easy to miss out onto if you aren't familiar with Ala Mhigan lore though. Sounsyy actually had a post on this on Tumblr the other week! The Garleans were attacking Ala Mhigo before they got taken over. The Ala Mhigan army clashed actively with the Garlean for years. So yes. The Fist and Garleans did meet, because the Monks were a part of the army. We don't know how that gone, but I'm kinda assuming that due to the fact the Garleans couldn't conquer them by force, that the Ala Mhigan army, especially with the Monks (and Hells, still after) was capable of keeping the Garleans off their lands just fine. That also says something about Ala Mhigo's military might mind you. Ala Mhigo did have Engineers and the like as well! Don't forget about that. They weren't just pikemen and Monks. They had Griffin Knights, Shamans ect. Just the pikemen and Monks were most feared out of all them. -
The fall of Ala Mhigo from the perspective of Garlean military
Virella replied to ARCHITECT's topic in Character Workshop
Seeming most things have been linked, I'm shamelessly going to plug the Resistance LS Tumblr. It might be easier to quickly look back at that! It also has some more Monk Lore, and I got more in the works as we speak. We've gathered as much as we could so far (in truth, it's still mostly Sounsyy's because they are awesome at lore things). http://ala-mhigan-resistance.tumblr.com/tagged/lore As for monks and pikemen though? I have to disagree there Valance. I haven't seen anything of that. Merely that they were feared as much as the Pikemen of Ala Mhigo. Nothing along the lines of "Monks feared Pikemen". It merely speaks of outsiders dreading them as much. Not the Monks. As for Monks being the answer against Magitek? That is a good question I'm not sure I can answer beyond my own speculation. Yeah, these people rip and destroy things onto their paths. Whereas I think they can easily discard riders, know where to hit machines ect to get them to stop working, Garlemald has huge Magitek monstrosities, and I'm certain Monks would struggle with that. But that's mere speculation at the end. I just have my own Fist of Rhalgr going 'nope' at huge Magitek machines due to this. But mere guessing work on that. What they do excel in though is killing footsoldiers. But I will get back to you later, as I'm writing up the skills the Fist of Rhalgr have, in game, lore and simply on your skill bar. So you can make your own judgement. Anyhow. Yeah, I'd hope Sounsyy's links helped you far enough so far -
Questions about Dark Knight and Darkside's nature.
Virella replied to Kallera's topic in Lore Discussion
I'm going to repeat what Valence said, it is just inheritely flawed the way you think about it. The fact more people did it doesn't make it any less flawed, it just makes people share your sentiment about how they see lore, and their degree of seriousness of it. (Also to come back on that little Lore thing you did link, still doesn't state anything about dragons knowing it before the Ishgardians did! The energies they are speaking? Literally her lifeforce, what has to do with the GIRL by his side, not the Dark Knight himself. Please read the quests completely, not just the log blurb! It will help you immensely no doubt.) You are a person who just like to take lore as something what is there, and vaguely based onto it, what is once more completely fine. Then there's folk who don't do that. When we see 'Ishgard was the place for the Dark Arts', until we get lore that disproves it, that is a fact. That is not up for speculation no more. And I think that is were your speculation/theory/argument is inherently flawed to the core. You're not speculating grey areas, your directly trying to disprove a fact at this point. Why? Forgive me, but it sounds as if you're trying to justify your own character at this point, more then trying to actually speculate lore. I love speculating lore. But once more, you're trying to disprove a fact at this point. And that doesn't fly well with people who are 'serious' about their theory crafting. We all need a base to work with, one you try to disprove with no evidence so far. Unless we get new lore come Stormblood, this is what we have, and this is what we need to work with. But at the end of the day? It simply shows the diveristy between roleplayers on the RPC. We have people like myself who don't like breaking or bending overly much (unless you flat out admit you do it. I will respect you so much more then people trying to twist things so their characters look acceptable in their eyes. Hint, they still don't), or folk like yourself who bend and break, and vaguely base their characters onto ingame stuff. And both stances are okay. It is not like we are going to roleplay with one another to begin with. Anyhow what I'm trying to say is that at the end, you're arguing facts here. You can't disprove these facts, not unlike we get more lore down the line, because you have nothing to back your argument up with at this point. Discussion is fine, as long you provide material with it, and so far? You, and those others, have provided none to make the facts we know less credible. -
Questions about Dark Knight and Darkside's nature.
Virella replied to Kallera's topic in Lore Discussion
Where does it say we had people using it before the Ishgardian Dark Knights, let alone people who were found outside Ishgard did? I've done the questline, I'm pretty familiar with Ishgardian lore, but I really can't find any of it. We only know the Dark Knight order eventually got the Dark Arts, much later then the first Dark Knight. That still doesn't however state there were people outside Ishgard who had earlier access to this, or to this at all to begin with. Yes, Warrior and Dark Knight do touch upon emotions, but in a different way, but Dark Knights deal with the Dark Arts, whereas Warriors have their Inner Beast to deal with. Yes it is quite similar, but not exactly the same! I believe, if I'm correct, Warriors have a need to constantly seek out bigger threats to hone their skills for their Inner Beast, whereas for Dark Knights its purely focused on well, religious corruption of the Halonic Church (who knows what they may do come Stormblood though!) Anyhow, I'm still really interested how you came to the conclusion the Dark Arts is used by other than/before Dark Knights came to be. Would you mind sharing me this information? Because I might have missed something then. I, and others have simply told you 'Well, lore states x', but if you can find lore, and not speculation, on it what myself and others might have missed? Awesome, give it to us, I'm very much interested in learning more lore! Not speculation.
