I once rolled that well that Virella blew everything and everyone around her. I even got permission to kill someone's char she wanted dead, but I didn't do it for OOC reasons. Still that RP was a blast. Biggest fail? I guess everytime Franz managed to outplay Ave due to RNG. I don't mind it though, its hilarious to see her mad. Or the one time Avelyn managed to piss of Tristram and RNGesus saw it fit to have Tris win the Grindstone due to it :l

Koen was also so kind to give your work around with these. Yes, sadly enough if you wish to be young AND well trained, you have to go for the Luke Skywalker approach. Personally I'm not a fan, because it feels like a cheap cop out to me due to being an exception and not so much the norm but others may feel differently about this. I feel this concept works for NPCs, not so much for PCs. Then there is, yeah, just be a Fist of Rhalgr student. There is a lot of mixed roleplay to be found for this as well. There's all sorts of Fist of Rhalgr roleplayers around who roleplay Monks of various ages, lore compliance, headcanons, religiousness, realism, pace of training ect. So there is quite a few direction you could go with this, if you decide to rolepay a Fist of Rhalgr apprentice, and wanted a PC to be his master. NPCs are always an option as well, but I felt it was worth mentioning there is a flourishing community for this. Really, you can find anything when it comes down to this. I could even point you towards directions of what type of roleplay you're interested in when it comes down to Monk roleplay. Not exclusively Fists, but this LS may interest you to get in contact with Monk roleplayers and other martial artists. As for the third commonly seen option. Older Fists. Not people who made it out of the main temple, because as far as we know there's quite a few other temples left. So your Monk could have either fled the main temple before things started to become too tense, or simply lived in another temple and survived that way. This in my opinion is probably the most solid one to be a 'legit' Fist. Your character will have the age and experience below their belt. The downsides? We don't really know how those temples were, or Ala Mhigo. Yes, the expansion is coming up, but it is still quite a bit of 'lets not mention this' or a 'I need to wing this' type of situation. Also if you have a dislike for roleplaying older character, because you'd probably have to be in your mid forties to be a decently trained Monk from the temples before the Fists shattered. But that's once more totally up to you! Some people simply don't like roleplay older characters, and that's fine. Just in the case of roleplaying a Fist of Rhalgr, to be the real deal who's been trained properly within their community, you have to be older. Also, your character would need to be Ala Mhigan! But that's no problem as being a Miqo'te. In the odd chance you decide to go for an Ala Mhigan character, guess what? We got a Linkshell for that as well. That said, I can rant on about Monk lore for hours on end, so if you want to know something in specific, just let me know and I will try to do my best to answer any question. That said, Pugilist are awesome as well. They still throw Aether around in their attacks, so please don't think you need to be a Fist to being the typical fantasy punch wizard, Pugilists can do this as well! *There might be a possibility of a lot more Monks living still in Gyr Abania due it being the main temple who was purged, and the shadow sect been hidden for a long time, so there's a huge possibility there might be Fist of Rhalgr communities quietly living out their days somewhere. But probably not in non-Gyr Abania regions.

Man, Domri and I were running out 50 roulette, my on Vi as WHM, and Domri as MNK this retarded ass fucking DRK, had the smart idea to pull the whole goddamn first room in snowcloak WITHOUT ANY COOLDOWNS Fuck me, I didn't even have time to regen the fucker, I just stood there screaming "Please cure II crit". Sexual orientation is NOT an issue in Eorzea. The only real issue I can see is people not liking their interclan relationship, but that is about it.

The concept art showed that they were referred to as draconian, but now they’re said to be demonic. What’s some background on that? Was this changed to prevent association with Shiva’s … relationship? KF: The original concept was that we wanted to do something different than what we have in the game currently. We have our five races and they’re all fairly humanoid. Even the miqo’te – you have ears and a tail, but take them away and it’s still humanoid. We threw around the idea of the Viera, but, again, take out the ears and it’s humanoid. They wanted something that was a little bit more beastlike. So, you have the ideas of the dragons, and the wolfman art, and then you have the demon look. It went through a lot of different stages, and we tried to take the best of all of them. Of course, when you get the reptilian or draconian design, and you have the story of Heavensward focusing on Ishgard and the Dragonsong War, if you bring in something that is a dragon, you have to wonder how that player fits into the story. We didn’t want there to be that mess or alienate the players that choose that. Once we knew where the story was going to go, we were able to meld it all together and fix the design for what we have now.

Hasn't it been said that Au ra are confirmed NOT to be descendants of dragons? Like, multiply times by the devs and ingame? It's all nice and dandy, but I think the crux of it all was that Ishgard confused them for dragons, but they really aren't dragons, or ever were dragons to begin with? If anything those Ishgardians are more draconian due to their curse then Au ra ever will be. Oh the irony.

Life in the temple was rarely a quiet affair, even within the smaller mountain temple Avelina resided, and privacy a rarity among those not ascended within the ranks of the Fists. Despite her mother been granted such privileges, Avelina had not. Rarely granted time outside the temple, Ave resorted to dwelling within the stone walls after she had been dismissed by her master after the day’s training. Not that the young Monk ever had felt trapped within it, in fact every time she was forced to leave her Brothers and Sisters for an extended period of time, she protested. Though thankfully there was no need for such today. No need to go visit her father, her half-siblings, or any of that nonsense who took her away from the temple. Just some rare spare time for her own. However that did not mean she had the intention to let it go to waste, despite feeling sore and slightly exhausted of the day’s earlier training. Making her way further through the temple in her training garbs, eventually the pale, red-haired Highlander made her way towards what she assumed to be an empty room. After all, she had not granted permission to leave for the mountains to meditate, so instead an abandon place within the temple had to make do. As soon as she stepped into, what she assumed to be empty, room, she spotted a figure resting against the wall. At first disappointed and slightly annoyed at realising her planning got interrupted by her plan gone awry, soon turned into relief at the moment she realised who the person in question was. Turning to face the Fist resting at the wall, she dipped her head and offered him a bright smile. “Brother Adun, I did not expect to find you here of all places.” she said, and added with a chuckle “I rarely see you so alone and unoccupied within these walls. I pray I am not interrupting anything?” She knew she wasn’t, but she was hardly going to miss out on trying to chat with the Fist she quietly admired from a distance.

Not like you know, have something called personality to make them interesting, and not really what they are or how they look like. I think a generic thief would be still a lot less generic then your 'insert any very common character concept in here' on Balmung. If people can't write a character, fitting in lore, to make them interesting, they are simply not skillful roleplayers/writers to begin with. It is not a good idea to try to cling onto a special job/background to make your character interesting if you can't give them an interesting personality, or provided interesting roleplay, to begin with. I think that is truly the 'issue' with a lot of people who roleplay such things. They can't make character's personalities or roleplay interesting within the lore given, and instead resort to outlandish concepts to make them look interesting for other people. They look for attention of others more then writing something good. Because you know, being cool/outlandish/special is going to generate attention to you and your character, good or bad, it seems to matter little to them, as long they get said desired attention. But once more, if you can't write a character with a interesting personality and/or roleplay. The fault doesn't lay with the 'restrictions' given by lore, but instead the blame should be put on a lack of creativity. And often with roleplayers, sadly enough, the inability to be social, and simply cling on trying to look interesting, instead of creating said interesting interaction. Then again at the end of the day, it's not like people of either side of the fence are going to roleplay together. So who cares. That's my two gil on it.

This makes no sense lorewise. It sounds more like you are trying to roleplay some anime ninja villain and not so much a FFXIV ninja. But in light of recent Dragoon thread, roleplay whatever you want. As long you enjoy yourself, and people around you do as well. Who cares? Just don't be surprised some people might not like roleplaying with you. Best of luck o/

Nah, they are all busy not worshipping Rhalgr :^) I wish I was kidding, but most Fist of Rhalgr RPers don't worship Rhalgr. There is a reason why I avoid most other FoR RPers

That said, I don't think Monks will be shafted due to the fact the main temple was purged, and not all temples. I imagine others have been burned down after, but... at least the monks were given the chance to leave before the army came. I still don't think there are that many (elder) monks to begin with, but that's another topic.

Okay, recreating a fighting style as Dragoon is absurd. First of all, Ishgard always shut out outsiders, especially after the Garleans came in. It serves NO purpose outside Ishgard's borders. Dragoon is a very specific fightingstyle, for a very specific reason. Dragons never irritated non-Ishgardians, so why the fuck would anyone want to try to recreate that fightingstyle, if first of all, Ishgardians didn't really interact much with outsiders to begin with. It serves NO purpose outside Ishgard. Why is so hard for people like yourself that some things you just can't have if you don't create your character to have the fitting background for it? Is it really that complicated? It is "I want the flashy skills but I cba to RP the character fitting for it, deal with it." And you know what? That's fine. Just don't try to make it canon lore and try to shove it trough people's throats. I'm arguing lore here, not roleplay. I don't give a fuck what you roleplay, as long you don't come roleplay with me. It simply reeks of "muh Otherdian Au ra Dragoon BS" this whole discussion. These Ishgardian bros will find a less wonky, idiotic way to make their characters be fine again.
