Ala Mhigan Resistance Tournament - September 9th - 8:00 EST
Virella replied to Virella's topic in Chronicled Events
This is happening next weekend! Hope to see you all there ! -
Hey there, I fear beyond Balmung there are a few attempts to create roleplay on other servers, but in all honesty? Those 18 dollars are worth it. Mind you, you can transfer up to 8 characters in one go from the same server to Balmung, unlike WoW. If you want to roleplay, I'd strongly suggest to go trying to find that spare money somewhere and make the jump. I had the luxury over a year ago I could sorta still make characters on Balmung, but ever since HW came out, the server has been locked constantly. Best of luck regardless of what you decide!

> Come to Roleplaying server > Excepts to raid > ???? Do like what everyone does who's a bit of a serious raider. Have a RP char on Balmung, and a raiding char on another server. You will find some raiders here, but most are super casual about it. I'd strongly suggest making another character on a raiding server if you wish to get into /serious/ raiding. Surely, you might find those 7 rare gems, on Balmung, who are having the same wishes as you. But honestly, save yourself the headache, and make a raiding char on another server, and keep one for roleplay. What I did back in ARR, could highly recommend it, even for semi casual raiding. Balmung is sadly enough not a raiding server by any means.

Yes, if your healer is low on mana, play it. SMN and BLM generally don't need it whatsoever, especially BLM. TP songs can be handy when you don't have invigorate, and need a few ticks of TP. It's still better to do SOME damage then none due to having no TP. Also if your tank died, it may help to give them TP song, seeming they will be trying to get the boss/mobs back asap, and need TP for that. As well, you can always boost your MP/TP song once every 5 mins till the healers/melee/tanks are back onto their feet, so you don't have to sing that long. You just have to keep an eye out onto your party really. (Really, if you didn't get invigorate from Lancer yet, get it. It is GODLIKE for any melee class) In fact, you'd be a terrible part if you didn't do the supporting of your class Generally at the start of a fight, you pop your Foes Requiem (you can boost it as well if you dare to, but if you don't want to and save it in case you wanna boost MP song, that's fine as well), so by the time your healer possibly need mana, you got plenty again to restore his in return In truth, in most dungeons you don't need to MP/TP songs, its more needed for raids. Foes is always a plus to use on boss fights, and even between packs if you have a magic users like a BLM/SMN with you, but you kinda need to learn the dungeon, and the class, if you wanna juggle your mana properly. I'd play it safe and just Foes at the start of boss fights only, until you kinda get used to your MP management yourself ^^

Heya there! Good to see you rolled an Ala Mhigan, currently I'm stuck in Roleplay, so my reply isn't as well written as it should be. But I once more wish to point out, unless her mother trained her all those years, it is unlikely she has Chakra knowledge. It takes years and years to master it, and some might not ever master it to begin with. All children in Ala Mhigo learn how to fight after all. You can't be opening chakras if you don't know the basics. And hate it or love it, but little kids can't practice beyond just stances, especially at the age she was before the Fists got purged... by all means, if her mother gone in hiding, she was about 4, given the temples fell 25 years ago. Surely she could have still met up with her daughter, but yeah, I don't see a 9 year old opening a chakra either, or gaining the proper knowledge to do such. Mind you, the King of Ruin tried to root them out, so most of their knowledge is lost. Including near most of their teachings on papers. I'd hardly imagine there are Monk scrolls laying around for the grabbing. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/39515-Want-Lore-History-Here-you-go!-(Possible-Spoilers) - Scroll down to the section of The Fate of The Fist of Rhalgr for information on that. As well, I did some extra translation from the German questline (it is still canon, despite the English version leaving it out), where it gets pointed out that their knowledge was thought to be lost. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=16454&pid=259589#pid259589 Someone else brought the topic up, and well, have a link to my reasoning why Chakra spellcasting is probably a big nope, beyond the few meagre skills we have. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17026&pid=265426#pid265426 And as far as we know, we have Mantra, and Second Wind, but beyond that, Monks are severely lacking in healing skills. I do love the idea of a healing Monk, but I'd wager that healing with chakras, especially others, is probably something what requires a lot of training and the like, and probably is reserved for the older, and experienced Fists. As well, being a Fist comes with indoctrination, especially if she has been taught by her mother. I'm not saying it is impossible, but they are highly religious. As well, how are you going to have a Rhalgr hating chakra wielding person in the open? Ala Mhigans, and Fists, would probably both come for her. Not that I say it is impossible, but how logical would it be? Fist see a lot of things as heresy, including wearing cyclas as a non-Fist, and I'd imagine denouncing Rhalgr openly would get you killed as well. Especially if she has knowledge of chakras somehow. Mind you, the King of Ruin forbade and spat on Rhalgr, and see where that got the Ala Mhigans in the end. Worshipping other Gods is fine, but I'd still not openly screech over the city's patron God. Ala Mhigans, and especially Fists, are crazy. It be like putting a "I'm a heretic" sign over her head, especially with chakra knowledge. Also, why the Arcanist guild? If you want to be a stabby stab, wouldn't it make more sense for her to mingle with the Rogues of Limsa instead ? As well, as explained in the thread above, chakra magic is used for chakra things, not other things. Kilieit gave a good example of that in the thread as well. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17026&pid=265419#pid265419 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17026&pid=265429#pid265429 I'm in no way discouraging you, but your character seems to be all over the place currently. Whereas multiclassing is... well a thing you can do, but if this is your first FFXIV RP char, I'd strongly suggest just focusing on one thing. Especially with a thing thrown as Fists in the mix, what is considered a mostly lost art, and hard to train into. In any case, good look with whatever you decide!

I'm really curious to see the difference between the dialogues! I should get both anyhow, given Vi has finished Coil, and Ave has not \o/
-
That sounds a bit vague without any context. I'm taking your are talking about the crystals the Garleans mine for Ceruleum in Thanalan? Or about the crystal in Mor Dhona? The crystals around the Coil? Or something else? I'm doing complete guessing work at the moment here ... Context, and we can help!

You can still be a native Miqo'te and just create their own clan traditions for said clan. Tadaa, problem solved. You can be lore fitting, from Eorzea, and roleplaying what you want.
-
Really depends on lore surrounding the topic, mostly the Fists and retaking Ala Mhigo for Avelyn. I'm still not sure whether to keep her alive or not. I really don't know where to push her story beyond 'retaking Ala Mhigo and restoring me temple', because she will never ever leave her temples as soon as she gets them. But that really depends on lore! Also because I don't want to roleplay some paragon of justice, given they might turn the Fists into them. It will be one way ticket to the embrace of Rhalgr for Ave if that turns out to be the case and I don't see a way to write her logically out of it, beyond letting her die. As well, Ave's by Eorzean, and roleplayer, standards getting old, so I don't feel as bad as I would axe Virella out of seemingly the blue. And I love bittersweet endings. But yeah, it all depends on lore... and well roleplay to an extend. She might just be capable of crawling out of Ala Mhigo/temples if she gets enough motivation due to roleplay. So we shall see! Else Ave's going to do a 'reset the cycle' suicide and let the Fists be reborn. She's a bit mad.

balmung Searching for LGBT RP group
Virella replied to Bastion_Bunansa's topic in Chronicled Connections
No no no. Absolutely No. Please don't bring this up as a super duper storyline plot... Homosexuality, bisexuality, is NOT a topic in Eorzea's politics, because people frankly enough do not care. I beg you, please don't bring real life politics in a setting there it really doesn't it belong. I love Eorzea being cool about sexuality. Surely there can be gay-hating individuals, but Eorzea as a whole doesn't have an issue with any sexuality so far in lore. I'm one of the more gritty roleplayers, but I don't go against lore. Please don't create an issues out of something progressive in this setting for a change <3 I mean, man, we got all these Eorzeans not given a fudge about sexuality for a change, and are accepting, unlike a lot of other settings and real life, why rain down onto that parade? Please scroll down to my section on Homosexuality in Eorzea for further examples. Interracial couples on the other hand, those are shunned from time to time, yes. Not same sex couples. Unless, if the person was going to say that as an argument to roleplay such, and you were going to explain after about Eorzea being cool with this stuff, then kudos! -
Also, have some lovely reasons to be a part of the Ala Mhigan madness today!

Meanwhile in the Netherlands I'm just praying on how they are going to fuck us over. I'm hoping on the gamestores here, so I can just buy Pokemon there and get my promo code. Please no silly food stuff.

What's going on? The Mythril Membership have kept themselves busy with various events. Whereas not organised for the Free Company alone, Avelyn Firestone and Odile Delacriox have pushed a couple of community events instead! After all, the Mythril Blades are firm believers that you don't need to be in one Free Company for serious roleplay, and wish to push that change onto Balmung's mentality. How better by making community events after all! Last weekend we had the pleasure of helping out at Odile's Sea Breeze Bazaar event, this time hosted within the Shroud! Various merchants of different Free Companies, or just people without a tag attached to their name, showed up to sell their wares. From jewellery being sold by an Auri merchant, to potions being sold by a Thavnairian alchemist, there was plenty to be seen and bought! It was lovely to see so many roleplayers together of different walks, and the future roleplay opportunities created due to it. Feel like you missed out on something? Worry not, Odile and co will be hosting another Sea Breeze Bazaar event next month. As always, you can contact her for more information: Either ingame, or trough the Sea Breeze Bazaar's tumblr page. Merchants are always welcome! We thank you all for coming to the Sea Breeze Bazaar, even if it is not a Free Company focused event. The weekend before that, a handful of the Blades gathered at the Ala Mhigan Resistance Meeting, hosted by Avelyn Firestone. There were various speeches, some focused more on the importance of retaking Ala Mhigo for Eorzea as a whole, others had a more religious touch to it, such as one of the speeches who was provided by Mistalv Arroway. Other speeches were done on the fly, and even a generous offer of a free meal and sleeping place for refugees was offered to the audience. Once more, despite it not being a Free Company event, but many of us having invested in this regardless, we thank you all for coming, and we hope to see you next month at the next Resistance/Ala Mhigan focused event!

Using chakra as a form of aether to use magick?
Virella replied to KoharuIyashi's topic in Lore Discussion
Okay now I'm out of roleplay. Every being has chakras in them according to Monks, not being a Fist of Rhalgr myself irl (duh), and just vaguely guessing with lore we got. Chakras take a lot of training to open. They aren't just "OH THIS OPENS BECAUSE IM STANDING ON A FORMER BATTLEFIELD DESU". Else everyone in Eorzea by now would have shat our chakras right left and centre with Bahamut ripperoning the living hell out of a lot citizens at the Calamity Widargelt It is as Erik said. Widargelt is my name. I am a brother of the monkhood. My order is the Fist of Rhalgr. Our way is to train the body and mind. Widargelt The fist is our weapon. With it, we put down our enemies. The energy within us moves the fist. The chakra is the seat of that energy. It is a sacred place. It can be opened, and the life force within controlled. Widargelt Chakra exist in all that lives─in all beings. Yet not all beings can open them. Widargelt Much training is needed. And great discipline. With these, the life force be commanded. Widargelt There are those who require no training. Their inner strength is such that it forces the chakra open. I have heard of this happening. But never have I seen it─until now. But once more, if you read further down the questline, it is really, really, really heavily implied only the FoR have access to these things. And their order is really, really mostly dead. There's people being trained again, but if we take Widargelt's words for granted, it will probably take years before one has managed to open a chakra, and some might never do it. Opening chakras isn't a god given right. Some people don't seem to be ever capable of doing it. http://xivdb.com/quest/66597/Brother+From+Another+Mother Anyhow, Monks do have spell to some degree. Although you wouldn't call them anything like BLM spells for the most part... they can throw magic at people. Howling Fist is still a line of Aether Elixir Field is also... really really spell like And also minor things such as Mantra def have a spell caster feeling to it So can you cast Aether as a Monk? Yes. Can you do other jobs with it? No, they still require their focus like a staff/wand for a THM. You will need your book as an ACN ect. Unless it turns out we are getting specs for our jobs in 4.0, I wouldn't hold my breath to see a spellcaster who throws things around without using a weapon. Although please, give healing Monk SE, that would be so cool ;_; ... Or staff whacking Monk, I'd be cool with that as well. -
Using chakra as a form of aether to use magick?
Virella replied to KoharuIyashi's topic in Lore Discussion
We don't see mages, or monks, throwing fireballs around like mad. Yes, it would be possible, no, it would most likely make your character grossly overpowered. And once more, I vague quote "It takes years to unlock on Chakra" and the Fists keep their secret to themselves, only legends, and the WoL shat open a chakra out of no where. I will adjust this post later once I'm out of roleplay.
