Every nick, cut, bruise, scar, and tattoo has a story and from what I've seen of our characters, there are tons of stories to be shared. Also, I'm pretty curious what people do with the "tattoo" options in the character creator, as they don't exactly have to be tattoos or makeup IC. So, yeah. Share away! To answer my own question for Bea, I'll have to link you to this story for the long explanation. But, for those of you who're too lazy (shame on you), I'll give a quick explication. Basically, Bea has two readily recognizable facial marks. The larger of the two is something of a spirit mask for what she believes will give her a face the spirits would recognize. (Practices that you would see a lot in a lot of tribal Shamanism, especially with the Yup'ik, where I tend to draw a lot of inspiration for the character.) But, the thing that makes this particular mask a little... off, is that it's not a tattoo, but a piece of scarification that she did on her own, via that story posted above. The other is a small white mark in the middle of her forehead. I really wanted to stress that this mark is NOT permanent, but just a simple smudge of ash for what Bea would believe to be her third eye. Aside from those two, she's pretty much nick and scar free. I'm pretty tickled by the idea that her biggest wound suffered was done by her own hands to further her research. Oh, Bea. :geek:

Balancing character personality (Mundane or Mary Sue)
Orlog replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
Honestly, my answer is pretty straight forward. Before hitting the lore, the race, the gender... I make a person. All of my characters I've ever made that have actually stood any test of time worked out the best when things in the physical realm was an after thought. Bea would still be who she is if she were a male Lalafell, Hyru, etc. Aside from that, I think about what honestly makes an interesting, but realistic (ya know, someone who catches your attention, but doesn't come off as forced as hell) person in the real world. I even go as far as looking at some of my own personality traits and exaggerate them. That way I'm working with something that I'm familiar with, but I'm not just making the same character over and over again. Things like jobs, parents, living situations, religious backgrounds, etc. are usually an after thought, or not something I truly touch on until they're brought up in RP. Reminding me, I tend to make up a lot of shit on the fly and go with what feels right at the time! There have been a lot of things with my character that I just thought up on the spot and ended up being a large part of the character to date. Honestly, I feel people who flesh out those sorts of details to the fullest tend to concentration on that a lot in their RP. I honestly couldn't give two shits about your family. I want to know about you (the character) as a person. I want great interactions that suck me into the moment and make me feel like I'm talking to a real person, not an archetype ( Tribal Miqo'te! Roegadyn Seamen! ). I'm not saying that every character that falls into that category needs to avoid those traits in order to make an interesting character, but the character shouldn't stop at the end of that summery, and even then, it should probably be a pretty small part of who they are anyway. So, I guess it all just comes down to making a believable person for me. -

Workin' on Isaac's facial structure some since drawing him on the poster. Since I've gotten it down more, I'll probably end up reworking the poster again as soon as I have my computer back. For those of you who don't know, Isaac is very much a dapper Persian/British pirate, and I finally think it shows. Shuck preferred the version with his eyes open, so that's what I ended up coloring, but I like the second sketch much more. On a side note, I might be looking for more people to sketch soon if my guild mates don't get back to me in a timely manner. Chop chop, you lazy assholes! -

Crafting, RP, PVE, and so many hours looking at my character and taking screen shots as I explore around. Seriously, I'm mostly excited about exploring all the new areas. Plus, you know... fucking up shit with the Misericorde hooligans. There's always that.

Thank ya, lads and ladies! More Bea drawn this morning. One of her first encounters with Carby? She doesn't seem too sure about the meeting. Also, that outfit is completely OOC. I just wanted to draw somethin' frilly. -
(Weeeeh, this was such an awesome read! You got down Bea's stuff so well, and with little need for correction from myself. I can't wait for more!)

Finally got my hands on a mobile tablet for artsin'! It's a far cry from actually having my cintiq around, but I'll take actually being able to do some art, any art any day. On a side note, I'm still trying to figure out how to convert my pngs to jpegs, so all I have are screen shots at the moment. Have some Bea! -
The thread is more about characters that either influenced your character or ended up unintentionally similar. In the long run, this helps people get a generally better feel with your character right from the get go. (Or... that's the hope, anyway) Anyway, to answer my own thread, I hadn't really had many direct character influences when I was making Bea, but when I started playing around on Borderlands 2 again, I found that Patricia Tannis is eerily similar in behaviors, minus some of the violence and being prone to outburst. Bea, though it might not seem it at first, is very much a lady of science, and very much disconnected with the world. And... that's all that I could come up with at the moment. I'm currently wracking my brain trying to find any other characters that might be similar, but no luck so far! I'll be sure to update this post if I come across any others.

You've come to the root of my problems with the tribal stuff going on with the Miqo'te. Considering that breeding outside of the clan is not exactly smiled upon, incests would definitely be a thing. A breeding male would stay in power for as long as he can maintain the position (especially if we're comparing it to a pride of lions), and there's no scheduled swap or anything of the like. And since the comparison of Miqo'te tribes being akin to lion prides has been brought up a few times by people who play them, I'm going to assume that we're going all out and any new breeding male who takes down the old one eats all of the children who aren't bread by him alone. 'S fucked up.

Cool beans. Either Shuck or myself will have a PM sent out to you shortly.

Nnnnope! Bea's name was picked by the large influence of Hyur in the area. Beatric being very much Germanic in origin. She's got a typical Roegadyn middle name, though it's rarely ever used and largely something she does not associate with herself.

It's a toss up between Archer and Arcanist for me. I'll probably end up flopping between the two as needed for group content and what have you.

:surprise: I literally yelped when I saw this. I seriously wasn't expecting it! Again, I love the colors, especially in the midtones. Eeeee, thank you so much! -
Superman's a straight edge hairless lady man and has a broke ass moral compass. MY ARGUMENT IS JUST. Seriously, though. I could take 'em or leave him. He's never really done much of anything for me, but whatever. He clearly wasn't meant for me.

As the creator of the thread, it wasn't intended to be a "feel all happy" thread, where no actual discussion takes place (seeing that disagreements are a natural part of discussion.). But then again, with any thread that's made, I actually want people to engage each other, ask questions, disagree and say why, not just stand around telling everyone how awesome their ideas and opinions are. That's boring and no one grows from that shit. Plus, people derailing from threads happen all the time without the mods having the step in. The only time it becomes a problems is when people start shouting about how their feelings are hurt, especially when no one involved is being even kind of hostile. It's getting tiring and honestly, I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for this place. Can't even have a light hearted disagreement about fuckin' Superman... Seriously.
-
I'm...not entirely sure why the discussion on Superman was deleted (if someone was shouting "hostile", I'm going to lose my shit, 'cause honestly knowing both of them, they were just nerding out, even going as far to continue the discussion outside of the boards for like... hours, without any animosity!), but ok. But, the thread posted above doesn't seem to exist? I'm not sure if that's an issue on my end or what. Also, to some of you who have mentioned it in a few posts, feel free to talk about anime characters, if you feel so inclined! Manga and Comics are essentially the same thing anyway. :>

Yessss more arts. This pleases me. I could just stare at your armor/clothing work all day.
