  1. SE needs to take a page from your book with their Miqo'te. :I I really wish they were more feral like you've depicted here. Anyway, amazing work as always! And I really love the color choices of your Roe lady; they go together so nicely!
  2. Admittedly, I kind of winced when I seen this. I mean no offense, but why Superman? I've honestly never been able to understand people's interest in him. Let's be honest, he's a plot device of a character, claiming to have this golden compass of a morality code, but in all honesty, when do you actually see him doing things other than fighting of meteors and strange super beings? It's almost like the little stuff like purse snatching and murderers are too beneath him to bother with. So, is it just because you grew up with him? What is it that you like? Tell me; I NEED TO KNOW.
  3. EVEN THOUGH I HONOR YOU, GUILDY, I'm going to have to disagree here. I'm pretty sure all of the content that will be added to the game will be free, so there's not much of a cash grab as some people seem to be seeing it as, and more just... regular marketing? This sort of thing happens all the time, even within the other Final Fantasy games. I mean, I'll be skipping the outfits, but the weapons... look damn awesome. Even if you're not a fan of the game itself, just looking at the weapon options on their own have their own merits. There's some pretty sound designs there. And to add on to that, I'm also pretty sure that this stuff will only be implemented in an event, suggesting that it'll only be around for a short period. So even if you hate the idea of seeing hundreds of Lightning copy cats running around (which honestly has me wincing as well), it'll only be for a short time... hopefully.
  4. Aside from just looking kind of silly, size doesn't really effect my game play at all. As others have said, there's the F12 and just selecting their name that you can use to quickly locate them if they're too small. And I don't know about anything that would go wrong with being too big (but it was a big joke in FFXI to see a WHM Galka. )
  5. Ahh, I want Vanille's... everything? Her staff, her clothes. I really hope they end up putting the whole cast's outfits in the game, 'cause that'd be really awesome! I'll probably end up collecting 'em all. And, I've gotta admit, I'm not at all bothered by this cross dimensional shit going on. It's definitely not the first time it's happened within a Final Fantasy series and sure as hell won't be the last. Plus, who's upset about getting access to neat looking weapons?
  6. I had a hard time finding just one song that fit the whole character... But, I guess this works well enough until I have more access to my music. And ... this is definitely Misericorde. Definitely. It's historically accurate!
  7. I play the sexy tenor saxophone, with dreams of becoming the sexy sax man...er, woman. I've also dabbled in guitar, harmonica, and piano. I'd really love to pick up a mandolin at some point. And a cello. And a sitar. And tongue drums. I have a lot of musical aspirations. :dazed:
  8. I...just nose bled. Those colors, man. I need to get art from you somehow, some time. I need to. *throws all the gil*
  9. What if what you personally consider fun isn't all sunshine and rainbows? Honestly that kind of RP really irritates the hell out of me, so I tend to try and avoid where it tends to show up. People all have their own versions of what is and isn't fun and the only thing you can do about it is just try to find other RPers that fit your taste, rather than suggest RP as a whole should be more of one way or the other. I see this come up a lot and it's really starting to beg the question of: How many of us don't RP to escape the real world, but more just because we enjoy making stories? I understand that life's hard and believe me, I've been through my fair (...or probably not so fair) share of shit, but expecting any a specific sort of tone out of a large group of people is just crazy. I'd suggest getting some escapism in something more concrete like a book or a single player game, because without a doubt, no matter who you play with, you're going to end up going through some kind of RP experience not exactly feeling the way you wanted. I'm not saying this'll be all experiences, but it's bound to happen eventually. I'm guessing this is more pointed at people who prefer more detailed, grittier RP. In which case, I'd have to say ...no. There's no proving anything to anyone. We all RP in the style we enjoy being a part of and nothing else. So, like I said, maybe you're just in with the wrong people? Obviously by the responses, there are plenty of people here who also want some happy fun time RP. Band together and get to it!
  10. Balmung here. I honestly have no interest in going anywhere else.
  11. So, while I as grinning like a fool when I was reading the responses to this thread, because I love 90% of the characters posted here, I remembered some more! (I'm really bummed I don't have my comic collection with me at the moment, so I'm sure a bunch will come to me as I go) I'm a fool for Watchmen, I really am. It's it, without a doubt, probably one of my most favorite comics and movies. So, of course I'd have to find a favorite character in there somewhere. Rorschach: Here we have an individual striving to make things right, but only in the worst sort of way. I'd follow up Shuck's post in saying that he probably has some Captain Ahab similarities in that he wants to rid the city of filth and he'll bludgeon, stalk, torment and murder his way into doing it. And this is probably one of the only times I've felt that the protagonist was considered far more dangerous and, hell, scary than the antagonist. Rorschach is fucking busted as all hell. A particular scene from the movie stands out the most to me for this example where Rorschach is locked up in prison, mask off for the first time. He's surrounded by the criminals that he himself put in jail and of course, they want some pay back and start trying to pick a fight with him. And... Well, you know what? A clip of the video says a lot more than I could possibly type.
  12. I'd argue against this little bit right here. I can agree that stuff like airships and fairys aren't for everyone, especially if you don't have the means for money, but given what we're shown within the world, there are Aetherytes everywhere. Even if in some areas they're not very close, you usually don't have to travel more than 5 minutes before you hit another one. I'm not saying that those sort of traditional tribes shouldn't exist, but more that they would be extremely rare and I honestly think that there should be less of an emphasis on it within the RP community. Like, going back to my main example, when a lot of people new to the world of Eorzea and they think of Miqo'te, they usually think about this super traditional tribalism, despite on how low impact it would be on their culture. Eorzea's culture is communal; there's not really a lot of room for there to be these traditionalist pockets, especially not in the wake of a tragedy where the world is trying to put things back together. Some might retreat, but the vast majority would probably come together to make things right again, or at least resemble something normal.
  13. For a lighter topic as I continue to be curious of people's take on the world of fiction... Originally I was going to label this "Favorite comic super hero" but looks back on it now, some of my most favorite comic heroes aren't super at all. So, what's your favorite, if you partake in comics? Did your favorite type of comic book have any sort of influence on the type of RP you're into, or the type of character you'd like to portray? To answer my own question, this goes without even thinking twice about it: Hellboy. I found out about this masterpiece back when the first movie came out, fell in love with the world and the character, shared it with my fiance, and we quickly went out to buy all of the comics we could get our hands on. HB is mostly a sort of detective story with a cast of characters struggling with their differences in a human society. With that being said, it's not the main plot of the story. For the most part the author loves following mythos and generally giving HB the chance to beat supernatural ass. And to add on to that, I'd definitely say that Mignola's comic put a huge influence on the type of writing and characters I like to portray. Before coming across his work, I didn't really have any direction that I wanted to go with my characters. But the amount of grit and dark humor that was found in these comics really helped me really focus on what direction I wanted my characters to go. I mean, really. How can you not love this guy?
  14. Cutie-patootie! I'm sad I missed out on meeting him in game.
  15. Bea stayed behind, learned some things and fucked up her face. Seriously, though. I'm really looking forward to the characer interactions between those who were ported and those who stayed behind. That shit is going to be tense.
  16. You'd be surprised, indeed. If this thread has shown me anything, it'd be that there are a number of people who prefer that their character look pretty, both in character model and general intention for the character, no matter the world. Which is, you know, all fine and dandy. But, still something that's pretty confusing to me.
  17. Hmm. Being normal seems to be so underrated these days. I'm going to start a rallying call to make normalcy the norm yet again.
  18. Fair enough. But let's say, for instance, a character claims to be from Ul'dah, their family also from Ul'dah, but they choose to have this character exhibit very traditional culture that typically isn't around that area? I mention this because I've seen this happen a few times and I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I agree that traditional culture isn't exactly unheard of, but, like the lore of male Miqo'te, it should be something that's not really all that common. Should we ignore all lore/worldly signs that say that this shouldn't be happening as much as it is? Or perhaps treat them as they actually are a rare gem, despite the numerous other people claiming the same kind of thing? And to add to that: Would isolated pockets like we see in our world actually be able to exist, given the fact that there's instant transportation? Even if said people chose to stay put, there's nothing stopping others from popping up where they are whenever they please.
  19. I believe Intermission is set to basically be the RPC's linkshell for OOC purposes. It's a place we can all gather, chat, and still have connections for RP in the future. I'm not sure if there's one out there specifically for RP, though? But, seeing that the RPC is just a collecting of other Linkshells, I'm not too sure if it would make much sense.
  20. It's so true though. I think the FFXIV team did an amazing job of making the moogles in the game very distinctive, but still very adorable. At some point I intend to get my hands on the moogle plush they've offered in the past. ...Also, I hope there's a moogle pet in game at some point. Anyway, welcome to the RPC!
  21. We have another instance of a topic popping up in previous threads. So, I thought I would finally gather my ideas and actually put them down in a thread somewhere and allow us to discuss the idea. How concrete are racial cultures really in Eorzea? I know lore wise every race a somewhat distinctive culture, especially in the Miqo'te/Lalafell/Roegadyn category, but would such a distinct cultural trait like... let's say, tribalism with Miqo'te stand the years of instant transportation and a world that has essentially turned into the melding pot of influences? Here's my thoughts on the matter: I personally have a very hard time basing my characters off of lore specific to the races in FFXIV. In game, we don't actually see a lot of these traits actually come up, despite how heavily some people push on it. I made Bea to be specifically very cultured, in that she pretty much has no cultural identity. Despite being a Roegadyn, she grew up no where near the sea and in her later years spent most of her time trouncing about the forest. And despite her group preferring to work via ship, she's basically no sea legs to speak of and the salty air around the water irritates her more than makes her feel "at home" as the lore of Roegadyn would suggest. And while there might be a few traits held on to by a race, I feel as though making a character completely embedded in (again, going back to my previous example, not really nitpicking at this one specifically, though) tribal society just doesn't really make sense for how the world is currently working. And... as per my new policy, I'd like to note that if you disagree with me, that's alright! You're perfectly well entitled to your own opinions. But, please don't take my opinions on the matter as anything but. So, what say you, people of the forum?
  22. I'm 23 and I've been doing chatroom/forum RPs since I was around 12. I didn't get into it more seriously until I hit Final Fantasy XI when I was around 15, where I dabbled in it here and there, but things really took off when I joined Warhammer Online. Since then I've been constantly hopping from one MMO to the next trying to find a community that I felt comfortable in, along with an MMO that kept my interest longer than just a couple of months. But, along side MMO RP, I've also done a few pen and paper games (namely Dark Heresy and at some point World of Darkness when we can work out a way to get rid of all the stupid). I'm honestly not a big writer, though. When I'm feeling daring, I like to push out a short story surrounding my RP character at the time, but I know well enough that it's not typically worth the read. That's fine, though! I'll stick to my art.
  23. Deleted until I get her look down better.
  24. Agreed! It was mentioned in my OP that even despite those trying to work their hardest to try and make their characters seem more grizzled, you're still going to turn out with a somewhat pretty character if only because the character models are pretty by default. But, there are those of us who choose to go farther with said prettiness and vice-versa. But, I guess it should be said that the topic can go beyond what's done in the character creator and focus more on what you intend your character to actually look like. This way you're not shoehorned into talking about any kind of visual representation you didn't really want to be in. I do hope the game allows for more grizzled options at some point, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll just have to stick to my mental images and art.
  25. Agreed here. I understand that we're trying to work here to keep people happy as best as we can, but it needs to be understood that everyone is going to be upset about something, no matter what we do. A lot of the things that seem to be causing turmoil within the community these days always seem to be so tiny, but get farther because these people seem to cry out the loudest. This isn't really a mentality that I'd like to see between a community of grown adults. I know this kind of stuff was discussed in the LS meetings, but for some reason some didn't want to "open that can of worms". I guess I'm glad that this issue is seeing the light of day more; the general consensus being that it's completely unacceptable. With that being said, I see no reason to lock LS threads or take away the ability for people to discuss matters related to the LS in said thread. However, if it's the owner, or someone affiliated with the group constantly bumping the thread in order to try to be at the top of the list... ? Well, I'm pretty sure that's not wanted here, but I'm unsure if the above is actually happening or not.
