At the moment I slightly prefer Merri for this. He has bigger biceps, probably. >_> Another case of 'Miqo'te's not quite my ideal, but it's certainly not bad.' So, consider yourself in contention.
-
Ooh. Interesting. I was thinking Midlander (either sex), but Miqo'te could work pretty well. You are in contention! Not exactly what I was looking for, but could work. We'll see!
-
Then consider yourself in contention for either! Have to see what others want to volunteer for each first.
-
Not at all! I wanted a solid-looking character for this. Female Roegadyn would be great. Also, since this is a longterm project, I won't mind if you want to wait until Beta is out to get a really good idea what your character looks like. (Even if you don't get in, someone could help you with that. Hint hint.) Would you like me to confirm you? This is exactly what I wanted. CONFIRMED. That's some good points (and thanks for giving me some lore I was ignorant of), but this is more about what appeals to me than lore-based synchronicity. Merri would be pretty decent for my Monk slot, though I have to admit my ideal would be a male Roegadyn, followed by male Highlander. Consider yourself in contention. Thank you! Are you sure you don't want to see about grabbing a slot? An Elezen could work nicely for Dragoon, Black Mage or Summoner, if those are options for you.

All these art projects are giving me an itch to start one of my own. So here it is: Player characters representing each Job squaring off against Primals in battle, rendered in an Amano-esque style. Each Job will be paired with a specific Primal, and I'm calling for volunteers for every slot. Whether that job is unlocked for a character is irrelevant either way, what's important is whether the character identifies (or is planned to identify) with that Job in character. Also, you have to not mind being in Job gear. You don't have to possess or use it, you just have to be comfortable seeing your character in it. Modifications are fine, especially if they make your character more identifiable, swapping entire pieces for other gear isn't. (For example, I could put Rhostel in the Dragoon, Warrior or Summoner slots; she has DRG unlocked, and started training as such IC before Dalamud fell, has worked on MAR to get WAR and will be one IC at the start of ARR (technically will unlock it slightly later as my main focus at the start of ARR), and studying Arcanistry through to Summoner training will be her main personal arc at the start of ARR. On the other hand, she will never, ever be a Black Mage IC, even if I do unlock it at some point. I can see wiggle room for her becoming a Monk IC someday, but I have no plans for it. In neither case is this good enough to use for this project. Not that I plan to use Rhostel, unless one of her three Jobs just gets no volunteers.) Please ask here if you want a slot. If I confirm you, then PM me with reference pictures and stuff. If I haven't confirmed a slot, feel free to ask even if someone else has volunteered for it. This is not first come, first served. This is what I want to draw. If you're not confirmed, it's not about you as a person; it's just that you're the fiftieth Miqo'te or your character doesn't mesh as well with my idea for the picture. For example, a Lalafell would be ideal for the White Mage, a Highlander would not. I'll be doing this digitally and in colour, so it could take a long, long time. Please be patient! Also, if we get another Job announcement, I may pair that off with Shiva, assuming we get now that we have proper concept art and an actual model for her. Can't do much from just a profile sketch of her head. THE LIST Bahamut vs Dragoon - Odin vs Paladin - Siobhain Good King Moggle Mog vs White Mage - Koumoru Ifrit vs Black Mage - Keisuna Garuda vs Bard - Aysun Titan vs Monk - Leviathan vs Warrior - Blade Ramuh vs Summoner - Teveriel ROUGH CONCEPTS These are quick sketchbook doodles to get my ideas in order, to see problems with my ideas before I start doing the real pictures. I'll be doing them as slots are confirmed. They're scribbly, messy, dirty, unenhanced and probably not at all representative of the final product, so be warned. Aysun vs Garuda [spoil][/spoil]

I will draw for this.

My bad! I looked up the source again: Hellsguard sometimes translate their names, but only if they choose as a way of integrating with other races, being outside their homeland. Sea Wolves, on the other hand, are one of the dominant races in the Limsa Lominsa region, so they don't feel that outsider pressure. That said, I'm pretty sure whoever assigned clans to those NPC entries on that wiki was just guessing. There are obvious Hellsguard in the Sea Wolves category, too. (Also check this out!) Also, Chiss IA is the only thing worth being in SWTOR. >_>

Hi there! I played on Wyrmrest Accord for a time when I was into WoW as well. It was a pretty cool server, though high on drama levels. As for Roegadyn names, those rules actually only apply to Sea Wolves. Hellsguard actually use names made from straightforward 'English' words. You could simply call her something like Little Fire. Whoever wrote that article was probably confused by Sea Wolves being the clear majority of the race in lore, and thus in the NPC representation. And another artsy person! I do like your stuff.

Seems like Shawnzy's been stuck in an echo chamber for a while. Perhaps Tumblr, for example. The kind of place where people of similar ideals cluster and pump each other up about those ideals while shouting down anyone who is even a little more moderate. The kind of place that breeds very thin skins. See also, FOX News. *rimshot* Yes, blatant copying without credit, even for harmless, personal works, isn't cool. That said, lashing out blindly because others are more tempered in their attitude to it is not cool either. Hell, even being a jerk about it to the offender isn't cool. You don't even have to be nice. Matter-of-fact is fine. Just lay out your thoughts plainly, don't get passive-aggressive, try to actually understand where other people are coming from instead of nitpicking their comments, and DON'T RAGEQUIT. Bowing out of a conversation? Fine. That's classy. Leaving an entire community in a huff, accusing everyone of something that's demonstrably untrue for most and open to interpretation for the remaining few, and playing the victim when you picked the fight in the first place? That's classless and childish. My opinion, for the record: Copying isn't a good way to learn anything but style, because the only way to really understand how to draw right is by training your brain to understand form and anatomy. Copying will teach next to nothing about that unless it's specifically designed as tutorial art. As for style, it's nothing but a reductive element, taking away reality for the sake of impact and simplicity. You're always better off learning your own style, what reductions from reality work best for you, with any influences being passive, not forced. As for copyright infringement, just because it's technically illegal doesn't mean that it's morally wrong. Without some very significant appropriation we wouldn't have some of the most important ideas about what art is or can be: Look at Duchamp or Warhol. Not saying that's the case here, but it is proof that copyright is highly flawed. It should be a protection against depriving the original artist of their ability to earn, and nothing more. (I also think copyright shouldn't be transferable, except to one's heirs at death, but that's a whole other argument.) Mtoto wasn't doing that by any stretch, so copyright as an argument holds no water for me, other than the aforementioned lack of proper credit. Only the learning argument does that for me. (EDITSES: I should have proofread better to make sure the logic behind this was presented more consistently.)

Hi! I'm almost certain I was never around when you were, but it seemed like a good idea to say hello because I've got nothing better to do. Excitement!

This reminded me to put together a playlist for Rhostel. I often do that for my characters, just hadn't gotten around to her. No, I won't share the list, it has 124 songs currently, and I'm not sure it's finished. Anyway, pared down that list to figure this out. Went with all Australian artists, because I can and it bloody well works. The singers all being female, though, was nothing but pleasant happenstance. There were certainly songs with male singers I considered, and they were eliminated for other reasons. Also, I choose to interpret the thing about an anime theme to be a song to use in an AMV focusing on the character. Because that makes more sense than the literal. Instrumental - Young Bodies Heal Quickly, Regurgitator Unfortunately, I can't find a proper version of this to link. Hrrngh. There's a version with talking all over it and one from a gig in the middle of a long video on YouTube if you really want to get a listen, though. Lyrical - The Start of War, Clare Bowditch & The New Slang Can't explain it any better than the lyrics do themselves. Musical - Cinders, Sarah Blasko Picture her singing it around the middle of the period between EoA and ARR. AMV - The Fight, Sia It's a fighty song, but hopeful, upbeat and joyous! Oh yes we stand together!

Welcome! This is pretty thorough as a guide to everything that happened in the game's storyline. Don't know what part 8 will be, though. Maybe speculation? Also, play a lady Highlander! A lady Roegadyn is also acceptable. (Kidding! Play what appeals to you. )
-
Finally, another Highlander lady! Also, a fellow Aussie! Welcome!

Let's take this in alphabetical order. First up is Aysun, by Para. The very first finished piece! Next is Deirdre, by Aysun. She was originally doing Rhostel, but swapped a few days ago, so there's not much to see YET. Next, Gerik drew Ei'ri, in a business suit for some reason. And here we have the most festive of entries, Eva from Nahu. But here's Gerik by Eva, in another business suit. I feel like there's some in-joke I'm missing here! This Keisuna sprite by Sienna is just adorable. Now here's something that needs an explanation. The deal I offered Nel was, she could draw anyone from the RPC, and I'd draw Nel for her. She picked Manari! Ellie ended up being the one to get Nahu when he joined in. She produced some lovely, crisp, detailed linework. The first of mine. As mentioned above, it's Nel! And the second is Para, as some kind of pimp Santa. Yeah, I know he doesn't do shirtless, but his back is fully covered! Finally, Deirdre's created a very introspective piece for Sienna. There's one more I haven't received, but it's for me, apparently, so no reason not to post now that it's Christmas for all of us! (Also, I may yet colour the ones I drew. Maybe.)
-
I, um, started playing a few weeks ago, but didn't get very far due to frustration, boredom and loneliness.
-
I said -ish! I'd have said 36 hours, but then someone will take 48 and it'll be after Christmas here. >_>
-
Unless I've missed something, only five people have sent me their finished artwork. It's very close to Christmas! (Not that I'm quite finished either. If you need an extension to finish, that's fine, but at least send me what you've got in the next 24 hours-ish so there's something to see.)
-
COLOURS! AUUUUGGGGHHHH! *runs screaming into the night*
-
I'm happy to just keep using imgur links or whatever.
-
I'm pretty sure everyone has started by now. Some people have even finished. And with less than a week to go, there's not likely to be any others signing up. Tell you what though Nel, I may have an idea. Check your PMs. Also, I'm gonna say this right now: There will be another art trade in the new year. Same standards for entry, with a specific, new theme. It'll be more organised now that I've figured out how running one of these things works. Thread will be up in the first or second week of January.
-
I can't say it's untrue.
-
They certainly seem to be adding lots of old faves among the new monsters.
-
Okay, I guess 4 possibilities (I have started, but barely) is secret enough. I've randomly determined where Nahu can fit in, and will now send out any appropriate PMs to adjust it. Carry on!
-
I'm pretty sure everyone will know come Christmas, Gerik. So, apparently Nahu wants a go? Which will be very difficult to wrangle unless there are some other post-deadline participants out there? Volunteers, anyone?
-
As of now, everyone who absolutely definitely signed up (sorry Kerr) should have their assignments. Check your PMs! Rhostel's wiki page can be found here. There's also my drawing of roughly how I think she should look here. It's subject to change given that I haven't had a chance to see the options for female Highlanders, but let's say that's pretty much what she looked like when Dalamud was falling. Whatever her look five years later, it won't be completely unrecognisable. As for how she dresses, it's usually much more sensible than that, given it's a physique sketch. Armour where appropriate, vests and trousers where not. If you wanna go for armour, generic Lancer-ish stuff or Flames uniform is apt, Dragoon AF is not so IC. There's another matter I want to ask you all to consider. Given the secret part of this, participants can't stream their drawings. However, if we decide, as a group, to drop the secrecy, that won't be an issue anymore. It also means you don't have to go through me but can talk directly to whoever you're drawing for if you have questions. Since it's a pretty big change to proceedings, I would prefer an overwhelming majority in favour before we make this happen. So, only if six of you state clearly in this thread that you agree to it. I already know who everyone has, so my perspective is naturally a bit skewed and I won't count my own opinion. One last thing: Anyone who hasn't posted details here, I've linked your main character's wiki page in the PM. If you think that's enough, fine, but if you want to add more details, more pictures or more characters to choose from, please do so right here!
