  1. I don't set my character appearance until I know what the model will look like. Sure, I get a general concept in my head so I know what to pick at character select, but I try to make my characters as WYSIWYG as possible at the outset. Of course, changes happen through the course of play, and when those have to be dealt with by making sure other players know, I do what I can there. But yeah. This is why I'm having trouble arting up Rhostel at the moment.
  2. You just illustrated my point exactly. :\ It's too subjective to be of any use at all.
  3. Thank you! There doesn't appear to be a crest that's been released to the public, so for now I'd say the best stand-in would be Rhalgr's symbol.
  4. Oh you. Such flattery! Hi! I always appreciate when anyone who wants to roleplay a mature female character. Sometimes it feels like women go into hiding when they turn 30, while older male characters just become more respected. I mean, okay, my main is still gonna be quite young in ARR, but I have played ladies in their 30s and 40s (or racial equivalent of such age ranges) in various other games. And I want to make a Roegadyn lady who's at least 50.
  5. Love your avatar! Saw the full image posted to the gallery, you drew it yourself? It's gorgeous and you should start an art thread. Also, most Eorzeans speak with various English accents. An Irish accent might not be unheard of there, though I'm not certain of it. Anywaaaayyy. Welcome!
  6. I've felt, for years, that the light/medium/heavy gradient for RP is worse than useless. It's actually obstructive, as they're totally subjective standards that everyone interprets according to their own feelings about what makes roleplay. I've frequently seen guilds in other games with absolutely nothing in common about their approach to roleplay both call themselves heavy, and at least one will consider the other to be medium or light. It doesn't mean anything without qualifiers specifying what you put this weight on. Say one Free Company has a 100% IC policy and requires members to not only stay completely in lore but to avoid being anything special within lore, to the point where no one can have the Echo. That company, however, is populated mostly with alts, of players who concentrate on gameplay with their mains, mostly unlevelled. They have very little activity except during scheduled events a few times each week. Another Company has a voluntary members-only OOC Linkshell, is okay with gentle lore-bending so long as its plausible and adds something genuinely interesting, and encourages members to have the Echo and play with it within reasonable bounds. On the other hand, they're full of mains, who have been through much of the game's content frequently approaching it as in character as they can without creating contradictions. They're very active, bringing roleplay with them all over Eorzea into high-level regions and endgame activities as much as the cities and tamer areas. Both Companies generally see themselves as the one true way for heavy roleplayers to also engage in endgame. They each think the other has made compromises that entirely defeats the premise of heavy roleplay, and can't stand one another. They're both right, on both counts. This stuff is entirely subjective and what makes for strong roleplay is whatever aspect of roleplay appeals to the roleplayer, but one only decide what works for oneself. To sum up, general gradients are useless, it's the details that matter. This is why hardly anyone claims to be a medium roleplayer (though I do if I don't feel like making a big speech). You're on the right track, Blade.
  7. Bueno! Blade would be fantastic for the Warrior slot. CONFIRMED. :moogle: Also, I've started doodling again. Just a little bit, nothing to show, but I'm feeling okay-ish now.
  8. I'm not doing the skip, and I'm still not roleplaying. Because mumble mumble mumble >_>
  9. Oh Twelve. It's beautiful. ;_;

    Good tidings!

Ahem. I'm Rho, or at least some people call me that for short. (I prefer Rhos, because that works better verbally, so it's a more likely IC nickname.) Anyway, belated greetings from someone who wasn't online for the last few days! Hope you're finding everything to your liking so far!
  11. Gotta say, I absolutely love what you've been doing. Was sorely tempted to ask for one, but between not having my character appearance nailed down and figuring we can arrange a trade later or something, I decided to let it pass. But seriously, them lines are goooood. :3
  12. Just a heads up: What with the multiple tooth extractions I had this morning, I won't be working on this for a few days, at least. I can still discuss the project and would appreciate reference material from those confirmed people who haven't sent me any. Just don't expect any scribbles to materialise for a little bit.
  13. Bam! BAM! Two more CONFIRMED. Also, nice to get some male characters slotted in. Nel has pulled out, so there is currently nobody in the running for the Warrior slot. Looking for athletic, medium-ish sized characters in particular! Also, a very large, muscular Monk would be appreciated, if there's any out there.
  14. My Black Mage idea works for any race. Since it has personal relevance, consider yourself CONFIRMED. Midlander works fine, and you do seem keen.... Give me some time. I think I know which Dragoon to pick, but I wanna be sure. Oh, and hey. Tev, wanna be my Summoner, since Black Mage is covered? Also, I have been working on the Siobhain vs Odin layout, I'm just having a lot of trouble positioning Odin. That's why I haven't posted it.
  15. Don't have a PS3. Also, suck at fighting games (even though I enjoy them). Also, Aussie latency would be a killer for this genre.
  16. Hey, I like Nomura. Just, uh, wish he wasn't doing so much. He was a perfect fit for The Bouncer, and The World Ends With You is just amazing on every level.
  17. Not that he was the first. Although, the III remake Bard outfit does look a little bit like Bard AF, if you squint and pretend the colours are different. That's probably not at all a coincidence, though.
  18. I'm not talking about entire Final Fantasy series iconography. I'm talking specifically about what's iconic for FFXIV. Otherwise, Bards would be SOL, given that there is no overall iconic series style for them.
  19. Like I said, I want it to be iconic. Pointiness and all, in the case of the Dragoon. :\
  20. Oh. Er, the point is to do this in Job gear. It's supposed to be iconic and stuff. I mean, I don't mind modifying it (like, having hair spill out of helmets when it usually wouldn't, to help make the character more identifiable) but it still has to be essentially the same. *cough* Was going to make that clearer in the OP, but I forgot while I was still looking for a good place to make note of it.
  21. I support this effort! Unfortunately, I'm terrible at organising my thoughts for this kind of writing. I could add to the encouragement with a couple more free sketches, though?
