Welcome to FFXIV and the RPC! it's a lot to take in, specially when coming from other places, but the community I've found within the game has been the most rewarding and fulfilling I've come across in my RP career. Lore wise, there are plenty of places to go looking, from all of the resources here as other's have stated, to also poking people with the IRL lore book who are willing to given advice. If you make a friend who's been playing since legacy, the old version of FFXIV, you might even discover some lore about the game that's been lost due to the transition~ As for the in game side of things, I can offer a few bits of advice that will help you start off, and also curb some of the anxiety that comes from being new to everything. 1) join an LS. Or linkshell as their called in game. These are player made chat channels that have various different purposes. I suggest joining a Social/OOC based one so you can meet others within the community. I personally suggest Open RP~ as that not only gets you pings for what events are going on that day, but is also full of rpers. And suggest joining an IC/RP LS, which is a gentle way of being able to develop your character given it's them basically talking over a comm. For that one I suggest Acronycal! You can always checkout the linkshell hall here on the RPC for some of the available linkshells. 2) When it comes to free companies, look for one's that are tailored to what you, or your character would fit well in or their interests. There is no rush to join one, so feel free to sit back and simply take in the game, the story, and get your feet wet in the community while looking for one. I'd also suggest looking for free companies that are welcoming of people new to the game, and are willing to give you a hand learning the ropes~ For this check out the free company hall here on the RPC~ 3) Attend RP events. Though getting interaction might be a tad hit or miss depending on the size of the crowd, and the mercy of the chat scroll boss. Attending events is still a good way to get a feel for how rp flows in this game, and listening to others conversations may give you clues on lore, interesting characters, the 'current events' of the world and so on. 4) Find a nice place to rp with people willing to interact with you and your brainchild! By nice, I mean a place that isn't crowded and full of people you can interact with so that your character can start growing, and you can feel a bit more settled. If your on balmung, come poke us at Wanderer's Respite! This sort of thing is one of the things were here for :3 5) have fun, and don't feel pressured. This is a big one <3 Above all, make sure your having fun with whatever it is you do in game. If you want to just enjoy the story, and then get into rping, do so! If you want to just rp and save the game stuff for later, that's alright! Take things at your pace, and things will come about in due time. There are many resources, people, and parts of the community that are more then willing to help with any aspect. So don't be afraid to poke us if you need us. n.n

Welcome to balmung! \o/ tis a silly place, but can be a tad overwhelming at times due to just the sheer population of people! If you want a friendly face to chat to~ or a helping hand with getting re-settled feel free to poke me in game on Lamia Vuinuet, or here in RPC I'd also be more then willing to help you break into the wonderful world of the RP side of things if that is something you desire as well~ But most of all, have fun in your new home! \o/ and welcome to the community.

Forgive me ahead of time if this sounds like a shameless plug, but problems such as this. Or rather, people feeling like this, is exactly why myself and a few other's founded and built Wanderer's Respite like we did. We noticed there was a lack of places where someone could take a character; Shy, socially awkward, unknown, new as a character or even to Rp, or the game in general, etc. And get Rp from people as soon as they walked in the door. That, is exactly what our FC and establishment is there for, so if you, or if anyone within this thread rather. Feels as if they would like a place to go, meet new people, or just know they can get rp without the crowds or anxiety. Your free to stop by at anytime and come say hello with your characters~ There aren't many of us at current, given were a new establishment and all. But if your willing to put up with things being a bit quiet, and there being only a few of us. We'd be glad to have you. <3

Welcome to the RPC and FFXIV in general! it's a wonderful place, though it can be a little scary starting off given just how -big- the community on here, and in game truly is. if you need any help at all, or wind up on balmung and want a place or people to rp and get comfortable learning the ropes let me know!

Linkshells are player made chat channels you can join in game. They range from being OOC, to IC, and can be a great way of meeting new people who are interested in the same stuff you are! A good rule of thumb if looking for one, is to check out the linkshell hall here on the RPC. A few I'm in personally are Open RP, which is full of roleplayers and is a social/OOC LS. Ishgard RP, which is for ishgardian rpers and people who play ishgardian characters, and is another social/OOC LS. And Acronycal, which is an IC/RP LS. As for getting into the community and Rping, I'd recommend attending Rp events and interacting with characters you find interesting. Anywhere from a friendly "hello!~ I wanted to let you know your character is neat" to even just comments about their glamours that you may like can all lead to making friends and RP possibilities. You can also wander to various RP establishments, often found in the housing districts. While some aren't always open, others are, and can offer a nice, not so crowded way of getting yourself comfortable. I hope this helps

Wanderer's Respite is a Rank 8 Free company on Balmung located at Ward 1, Plot 25 of the goblet. Focused on Role-play, and centered around character interaction, growth, and development. We hope to offer a new place and means for even the most shy of characters to find RP. A social lounge, a place where people can come and know they'll be welcomed and find company through interaction as soon as they walk through the door. While offering a place to relax, be at ease, and forget about the outside world for a while if you want to. Our doors technically never close, though when you do drop by determines how many of us will be on hand to greet you, interact with you, and see to your needs while within the establishment. While we do plan to hold events and such, unlike many taverns, bars, or other such establishments we welcome patrons through our doors at anytime, any day. We're here if you want or need us, so don't be afraid to drop in and say hello, or simply claim one of our corner lounges to relax and take a breather. If your interested in joining the FC, our applications can be found here! if you have any questions as well, your free to contact Lamia Vuinuet in game. Either ICly, or OOCly. if your wanting to be involved with us, but aren't exactly sure how, or on what character, or would like to get to know us better first. Just rp with us!

Snarky elezen looking for Ishgardian contacts.
Lamia replied to aure's topic in Chronicled Connections
I have two ishgardian characters I can throw at you! One's a dragoon of a long standing, and good standing minor noble house. And the other is minor nobility with some interesting history with ishgard. Feel free to poke me and we can brainstorm! -
1) Orchestrion 2) Wind-up Leviathan 3) Thavnarian set

Was able to capture this beautiful one the other night during an RP

I'm unsure of where to put this on the forums, and I know it's a bit of a shot in the dark. But I'm looking to aid in the purchase of an FC house either in Mist, or the Lavender beds and was curious if any property owners were looking to sell. :3 We're looking for a medium, but a large might work as well if it falls within the budget. Ward, or plot numbers don't matter, we aren't picky~ and thank you very much!

Welcome to balmung! It's a joy to have you, and hopefully you won't have too much trouble meeting new people and making more friends~. I'm trying to do much the same, so if you don't mind a shy person poking you about your OC, I shall give you a PM in game!

Welcome to the RP side of things! it shall consume your soul in the most lovely ways possible I assure you. Your character also sounds quite interesting, so I definitely look forward to getting to learn more about him~ Hopefully you'll be able to come join us over on balmung eventually, but I wish you luck all the same in finding RP groups!

I'm still halfway through it, but considering it's three books in one I'll share it anyway. I'm currently working through Dante's divine comedy and the three parts: inferno, purgatorio, and paradiso. ((Reading 13-14th century english is -hard- let me tell you)) I'm also working through The art of war, which I'm nearly finished with. ^ ^

Oh dear me, I'm actually a bit shy about this subject so forgive if I come off as rambling somewhat. Relationship dynamics have always been a fascination of mine, as well as the stories that often go along with them. How two characters can meet, grow, and develop one another in unseen and unpredictable ways. The way those changes reflect not only in the immediate, but the long term way that character perceives and further interacts with the world. But also the dynamic itself. In a chaotic world such as Eorzea, one not only has their own conflicts to solve, but that of the realm itself, and world events, cultural influences, and other factors that serve to provide challenges and obstacles for them to face. As a reader, and as a writer, I find role-playing that 'journey' to be quite fulfilling and often a book I simply can't put down. And as the years pass, the patches change, and the story of the game unfolds, so too will those characters arch stretch onward. Unfortunately over the years, I've found it rarer and rarer to find RP partners interested in such a thing. Thus it's been almost 6 years since I had the chance to rp, and write that deep of a story with another players characters.

I'm glad you got your baby back! And whew... I just got back from a prolonged haiatus, I couldn't play the game because of financial reasons so I'm currently facing that same hurdle in getting back into my RP characters. Usually the first thing I do is a status check. + Of my old rp partners/friends, who still has interest in role-playing with that character still? + Where have they (the character) been this whole time? On a trip? Personal growth? Etc. + Slice of life rp. May not be the most exciting, but it helps get back into the flow of that characters personality/actions. + The character workshop here on RPC. It helps brainstorm, and re-solidify that characters ideals, and quirks. Based on what comes back to me from doing all of that, I'll either stick to an old character as my main, or make a new one to have something fresh, interesting, and enjoyable. Theres nothing wrong with putting the old characters on a shelf and embracing that new character you enjoy while you get back into the RP community, and readjust to things. Hope this helps

I just recently transferred new characters over to balmung myself~ it's easier then you think! Just make a bunch of random characters, make sure the names are names of people already on the server. And then make sure you log into them and complete the first batch of quests given to you by the adventurers guild. Then you have to just wait three-four days for them to become eligible to move, and bam move all 8 in one go for 18$. The extra alts are in case you want to make new characters, on balmung they'll require a name change so you can name them what you want. And with the free fantasia you get from your first 30 days of play, they can look however you want. :3 I hope this helps! And if you do come over to balmung, seek me out! I'd love to rp with you ^ ^

Thing that you feel most guilty for in this game as a player
Lamia replied to Riven's topic in Fun Prompts
Playing an arcanist and realizing I have topaz out instead of emerald when were already halfway through a dungeon. Seeing sproutlings running their legs to death to get tot he next town when im casually riding by on my two seater choco without a second person. (it's why I often stop and ask them if they want a lift) Being a level 50 dragoon, and still having no idea how to play my class outside of RP. Sitting back int he middle of an instance and letting the four bots im in a group with, run themselves into the ground over and over and not heal them to get a free run with minimal effort on my part. -
Why does your Character revere a certain Deity? (Or Not)
Lamia replied to Tara's topic in Fun Prompts
OOC: When picking 'guardians' I always try and select one that would have meaning to my character, or their interests icly. IC: Lamia, despite his ishgardian upbringing is a full blown athiest. He does not, in any way shape or form, think the twelve are actually real. But instead thinks halone is nothing more then an deity the founders of ishgard, and their church, made up in order to justify themselves and their actions against their own people. He refuses to follow this 'cult of halone' and when that earned him being branded as a heretic. He fled the city, and found a new life within the rest of eorzea. If anyone asks who he worships, he'll proudly say Jandelaine, because he's an asthetician. Religion is a fun topic with him. -
Levinth: Last living son of oldest ishgardian noble family becomes a talking wall attempting to master politics and stab things with a stick repeatedly. Lamia: Ex-ishgardian athiest flees home and attempts to change the world through fashion, hair, makeup and jewelry.
