At $500 you're not getting a laptop that can play the game better than what you have now. What you want at that price is a budget desktop gaming machine. There are many, many, many ways to do this, and it's late for me so I can't get into too much detail, but here is one way to go about building your own desktop gaming machine around that price point. Note this wouldn't have an optical drive to start so you'd have to download your games or cannibalize it from your old desktop, your old monitor is likely still usable so I didn't include that in the budget. Bleh, the Ninja Job lore will likely have to be ignored or adapted outright because they'll probably pull another "you are the the only one worthy of being a [insert job]" story with a senpai Ninja who will pass down his exclusive super secret skills to you and you alone. So just do what you want, that's pretty much what I'm doing with Rakka'li and White Mage, eventually.

Don't forget that it's entirely possible to roleplay a Rogue without roleplaying a Ninja as well. Using the job is not mandatory and judging from the flips and such Rogue is flying just as high on the cool factor as Ninja, just without the Mudra(?) magic.

Just play the game a while and see what the world has to offer. Something might catch your eye and inspire you. There's surely something out there to trigger that inspiration.

Then as far as you're concerned there is no "truly difficult" content in any game anywhere that has a gear system that isn't purely vanity. Even Monster Hunter - a /very/ skill based game - you can equip armor sets that increase your defense and apply skill bonuses (something like giving you a faster roll or more defense against paralyze, etc) that makes certain fights considerably easier to deal with, is not truly difficult. And that assessment is flat out wrong. I help people with turn 5 now and then. At this point a good number of endgame people are over-geared for it, yet they still manage to wipe on the mechanics. So yes, having the echo buff and newer gear makes it considerably easier to deal with, but it's still something that's difficult to pull off and challenging - until you've got enough practice with the mechanics. I think people will still manage to wipe in difficult content like turn 5 and (lol) turn 7, 8, and 9, even months from now when they're full i110 and having a much easier time with it thanks to the gear.

I think they'd have to be attempting to make RP-friendly lore to stink at it, but honestly it's clearly just not anything they're remotely concerned about. We already operate with so many workarounds to get role play working that the housing thing just seems so small in comparison. Really we all kind of deserve some recognition for it.

A counterpoint: my coil static is an even split and all of the females play female characters. This is a great demonstration of anecdotes not being evidence in action.

While fantasia potions are a safe bet at this point dedicated RP servers are never going to happen. This style of role-play that we enjoy is an entirely western cultural meme - one that's very niche in the west even and always has been - that is virtually absent in east asian cultures. It ain't happening. Fortunately after having spent so much time in Japanese and Korean MMOs I long ago figured out that the lack of dedicated RP servers doesn't inhibit role-play in any noticeable way beyond causing tiresome arguments around launch time regarding which server to mark as the unofficial RP server.

You're absolutely right, that's why you should direct your complaint posts here where your opinion might have an effect on the product you enjoy(?). I like A Realm Reborn, it isn't a perfect game, but I like it. I come here to read about RP (and story posts), if I wanted to read about how terrible each addition to the game allegedly is I'd go to the official forums where such whining about not having everything handed to the players simply because they pay a monthly sub can be found in abundance. All of your griping here does nothing to change the game and only serves to annoy myself and others.

It's easy to say that gender doesn't matter and to openly state that you are not thinking about it when you roleplay, but in my experience across /many/ roleplay scenes the harsh truth is that what gender you are OOC carries a great deal of weight when it comes to how interested others are in roleplaying with you, even when they explicitly state otherwise. Thankfully it's easy to identify who these people are, given enough time. Words about openness and neutrality towards gender are cheap when those same folk only roleplay with people that are well known to be the gender they are actively interested in OOC.
