Dude, real talk? These are awesome, they remind me a lot of http://harkavagrant.com/index.php which is also awesome. Keep on keeping on you wonderful master of whimsy!

Small fix. But yeah, i've been in the unfortunate position of having GM's investigate a transaction when a friend disbanded their FC house and then I gave them the gil to rebuy it personally. They assumed some real money transaction had happened and I imagine that is what they assumed here as well.

No problem, feel free to drop a message or two in the future, i'm a frequent member of the "rambles on about things for likely a touch too long to anyone showing even the slightest interest." So be prepared. -
Stole Nako'li's set up! Wind up Quarimar Item Flavor Text A wind up Quarimar action figure! The least common of the "Illusions" set. Congratulations on your tiny little grumpy companion. Minion Guide Originally commissioned by the Ossuary to have stand on their desk and lecture want-to-be-Thaumaturges on the importance of patience. This little trouble maker was quickly abandoned after the guild realized that having a mouthy and often racist welcomer wasn't very wise. Hover Text "I've been called worse things by better people, you'll have to try harder~" - Quarimar Behaviour: Obedient Interactions: If kept out for too long (1 hour) he will start bemoaning the lack of refreshment until he gets tea. Any Scholarly minions will be chased around by Quarimar until he can talk to them.

Is back but feeling at a loss....

All right we've already got some stuff to work with. If she despises the tribal life but is still a vagrant you could play up the conflict between those two systems over lapping, the character lapsing into the familiar tribal habits of her people because it makes being a vagrant easier, which in turn when realized causes frustration and perhaps a knee jerk move to the extreme in the other direction. (Maybe gets huffy about always wearing sandals and the strappy kind of tribal clothes so she goes off and gets something more formally Ul'dahn and then has to suffer through the heat for the benefit of not feeling like a sand-cat.) To be honest those are all fairly common tropes so its pretty easy to work with the rest. "A wanderer" can go "current merc" "past merc who still uses the skills" "Past merc who wants to leave that life behind" (plays into dark past.) or a transition between them. Trusting people is fairly easy to work with, you can go the route of using it to make them more risky in that they don't use help/want to trust people to help make their way so they're often taking jobs on their own which can expose them to characters in the adventurers guild. Or you can go the route of using it to have them take up more menial jobs ala' Choco shite shovler at one of the various towns and just a general busy body. Fear of Nuhns (shouldn't) come up that often ICly since there's comparatively few who would leave their tribe for any extended period of time, or venture out at all in the first place, but its still a trait that can be used. A dark past can be worked with in a few ways, i'll presume something rape-y since that's whats implied through the nuhn dislike, often I feel that these work better when shown, not told. For an example (though the cause hardly compares) Quari's got a bit of water trauma. So when ever people are near open water he gets quite restless and will often be very close to supervise, but when its him by himself or around people he doesn't know he'll gravitate towards the mostly likely to be floating object if things go sideways. Edit: forgot to explain that this can then be used to have her interactions with both people she likes and dislikes modified around the perceived threat, like I do with the ol' grump and large bodies of water. Hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further ideas or questions. -

I'm sure there are some people who have experience with that character who could weigh in more effectively but I think it would be much easier were you to link to or post a simple outline or even some inspiration. For example I don't know if the character in question is a Sunseeker or a Keeper, if they shun or enjoy the tribal life, if they're a citizen of any of the grand cities. Throw your ideas out there and i'm sure some will come along to help you refine your vision. -
balmung Feeling Like I don't Belong. Please help?
Olofantur replied to Mayumi Shiro's topic in Chronicled Connections
looks like we've got a bevy of other people interested in helping so i'll assume you've got some contacts on hand. Resolution wise? I try to make a point of never allowing myself to go a full week without doing something in a public area. Not just "the Goblet" because I still feel that allows for a certain amount of filtration, but in a city proper or in the wilds. Lately i've taken to lingering at my old pre-home home the Ossuary, aka That place with the creepy finger waggling lalafells that cackle to themselves. And I try to bring people along with me or have them meet me there, aaka the Thaumaturges guild. Another option you have since you're a member of an FC and i've done this once or twice but ask someone about their friends, it doesn't have to be directly, I usually do a "Oh hey I heard you were working with people at ____" this doesn't mean that you have to meet up with those people directly, but even asking one of your FC mates to pass along a message or a question to the other FC they interact with can get things rolling. There's an understandable reluctance to want to engage with your friends friends for different reasons. The big reminder is follow up! An easy example is with crafters, anytime someone commissions something interesting in the FC i'm a part of, I make a point of ICly asking them about the maker and details around it, this later allows me to both approach the maker with some fore-knowledge as well as open up conversation with others discussing the crafters. (The skills/hours of one vs another, or even over all recommendations.) And if you're getting all your crafting done OOCly by people in your FC then you're missing out! its a great and reliable way to forge connections. I hope this helps, it might not be the most applicable or fast returning on your investment, but I prefer the ponderous rolling narrative pilled up over the course of months over an applied storyline most of the time. -
This is what I imagine everyone looks like when they do that "Hey did you hear about this epic thing that you just missed and will never happen again and we're totally going to reference it all the time without telling you the joke?"
-
Miqo'te/midlanders: "Half-heights" lalafells: "Yalm-stick" "Stubs" Wildwoods: "Hyur lovers" Highlanders: "Rhalgr's step-children" Quari tends to go for jabbing at what ever the person in question is lauding so I haven't cultivated many general ones.

People who have talked to me on Skype might know this, but here we go. My confession: I love being wrong about the lore ICly and having people correct/scold my character. It doesn't happen very often any more, partly because he's quite a bit older and cautious about what he talks about, but its still nice to see it happen. On the other hand it can be frustrating trying to explain to people that yes, I know the history behind Limsa Lominsa, that doesn't change that the character thinks its a city of pillaging whore mongers lead by a overly crass and wizened crone who would rather sink her island to the bottom of the ocean than give over its control.

Always cool to see a Roe embracing the "face-punching is a diplomatic option" style of living. Quarimar, being the obsessive grump face that he is, rarely likes actually getting his hands dirty when it comes to collecting on debts and chasing off the occasional bandit, so if you're ever looking for a job feel free to drop a line! OOCly I flip flop between passionately ranting (usually about my desire to see butts restored) and wondering if Slaanesh is plotting my demise, so that could either be found hilarious or mortifying, up to you.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Olofantur replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I love new people, they're usually very willing to listen to advice so long as you present it in a kind and offering manner. "Not sure if you've tried it but ____ works pretty good, especially with ____" The ones that get me are the content rushers who get a character to 50, then go back to level another class and have their skivvies in such a knot that anyone who doesn't play at their same break neck speeds is just the worst thing since polio. The one that really gets me going is the "Don't tell me ____ I have a class at 50" stuff or "well i've been playing since ___" just.. just ARRRRGGGHHHH inevitably when I retort with A. time does not equate with expertise, i've been playing the game since the beta for 1.0 and i'm still learning stuff and B. Just acknowledge you made a mistake and/or were being lazy, its not a big deal, just be mindful. They have that knee-jerk "oh you must be some no life loser." remark. Yup, everyone who plays less/less seriously than you is a casual, and everyone who plays more/more seriously is a no life loser, well aren't you just the pinnacle of the human fuckin' species boy-o. -
My reaction when the girls get all the cool frilly things again.

An interesting idea! I'll hop aboard if only for the sake of potentially using this later on to bother SE into making an IC icon or something of the sort. (and wanting to get back into public RP more.) While i'm unable to participate on the forums due to an ancient banning, i'd be more than happy to spread the information around if an official thread was created on the forums. I think this would provide quite the boon to people who are not on Balmung, but are still interested in the idea of roleplaying. (Of course the stigma attached to it will still exist but c'est la vie.)

I really like how the job characters you meet as part of the MSQ acknowledge you if you've done the appropriate job.. -
Was originally created to be an antagonist to an story line I was a part of back in 1.0 (Cabal of thaumaturges looking to find a way to mess with a few of the Aetheryte in Thanalan and make their own private relay/network.) Turns out I like being the Douchebag McGrumpy-face more than Treehugger McNice-pants. Who'da thunk it. That and it gives me an excuse to be a hermit in the wild instead of lingering in the cities.
-
But seriously, at first it's just a flat until a few moons later, if the stubborn person is still around And then the behavior changes and he starts acknowledging them first and then it happens... he remembers he has no idea what he's doing or how to interact with people.

OOC drama and the RP community. (A rant)
Olofantur replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
Excellent brain food, This brings up some interesting ideas... After reading other peoples posts it definitely seems a common line that a good deal of this (what's a good term for it. "OOC back chat"? I feel like gossiping can be seen as fairly mundane. Anyroad.) Malignant Gossiping occurs towards people who used to be part of "X group" or "Y FC" and rarely towards the wandering vagrants. Despite my lack of involvement with my current FC, and the way I skulk about the world in general it still surprises me how often I get a "Oh but I thought all of that FC was like ____ or didn't like ____ people and that you were an asshole" or what have you in compared to when I was a "freelancer". Although I was arguably ruder ICly/and less schedule reliable. Sometimes I wonder how Eorzea would be without FC's.. It would be an interesting experiment to compare how often people were bothered/harassed on a monthly basis broken down by how active they are in the RPC/ how many/what FC's and the same for linkshells. on an OOC vs IC basis as well as just time wise. (like theoretically, could having any more than one or two OOC LS's dramatically increase the amount of shittalking you have to go through?) None of that being an excuse for the harassers of course, I just like data. Also because that leads me to wondering, since one of the two blow ups that i've been around (that I can recall) happened in an OOC LS. How's the fall out to these situations (on average)? I was in a linkshell when some frankly disturbing "he said she said" went down between the leader and some members about someone who had recently been booted, and I just left the shell asking them to reinvite me when they were done being a bunch of sassy sammies (I hate hearing about other peoples IC relations OOCly because i'm one of those "keep the encounter pure and free from potential meta information" peeps, and had made that clear upon joining mind you..) evidently not toeing the line and hearing how bad this removed person was, wasn't the right decision and I was denied re-entry. Out of Curiosity, whats the rate of retention when this stuff happens? afaik I was the only person to leave due to the malignant gossiping although others have mentioned that they simply filtered the channel if it was a "practical" LS with a use (eg. Balmungs Finest.). Thoughts? Either way Sasha well put.* Edit: Miss spelt OP's name, much dishonor. -
Look at all these people! being all welcoming and stuff. Bunch of posers. Anyroad, welcome to the Show! sounds like you've got quite a bit of experience under your belt, which is always nice when making your way in a new world. Out of curiosities sake, did you only play the original NWN? I enjoyed it a great deal, but hordes of the Underdark and Shadows of the Undertide expanded my love of it quite a bit. Hope to see you in Eorzea!
