Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Michaux replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
Yea i get this, and my advise is to slow down and let people have space. I try to get the other players to RP and stuff and then add in more plot as appropriate. Sometime it feels like you will never get the plot done If they are RPing then generally they are having fun. If you find it is just you doing things, then you are basically telling a story not RPing. In summary, often less is more. This is super good advice, and I'll try to keep it in mind! -
Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Michaux replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
Thought of something else. When I'm trying to run a story arc involving other people and it's kind of complex and I'm getting wrapped up in the details, I start worrying that no one else cares about what's happening as much as I do. I worry that they're all just really bored and they're too nice to tell me so. I love DMing plots, but I have so much anxiety about it whenever I do. -
Hey there! I'm sorry you're having trouble breaking into RP on Balmung. I have five characters, one of which has a wiki linked in my sig, while the others have shorter RP profiles on my tumblr (also linked in my sig). Please let me know if you'd like to meet any of them! Or shoot me a /tell in game. I'm most often on Solenne, Michaux, or Ardenoix these days. (Note that I go AFK sometimes, so if you don't hear back from me after sending a /tell, it's totally because I wandered away from my desk and not at all because I'm ignoring you. Promise!)

Solenne would carry on like nothing had happened while secretly being much amused. She would particularly enjoy it if it made other people noticeably uncomfortable. Michaux would be horribly embarrassed, especially if there's anyone around whom he's secretly attracted to. This might have actually happened to him recently, poor man. Not sure about my other characters, to be honest.

Thank you so much! Sent you a PM!

In a story arc I'm running for my alt Michaux Vidal, a few characters need to break into an Ishgardian nobleman's mansion. Since Ishgard is sadly lacking in public houses that you can RP in, I was hoping that some kind soul/FC would be willing to let us use their large house as a stand-in. We would restrict our RP to party chat and do our very best not to be disruptive. Would anyone be willing to offer up their mansion for the cause?

Welcome to Balmung, Vorlaix! I heard from Aronaux that you're looking for RP contacts. Feel free to send me a PM here or a /tell in game if you want to set something up with one of my chars.

I'd love to RP with you sometime! I do a lot of RPing in Skype too, or at least I used to (and would be happy to do so again). I think it might be interesting for Feine to meet my wandering witch, J'aeda (RP profile). I also have four other characters (Solenne has a wiki linked in my sig, and the others have profiles on my tumblr, also linked in my sig). Let me know if you want to set something up.

Thing that you feel most guilty for in this game as a player
Michaux replied to Riven's topic in Fun Prompts
Yeah, this. ^^^ I have 5 characters, and I can't give them all the time and love that they deserve. I do RP on all of them, but in terms of PvE progression, Solenne still gets the bulk of my time. I also feel guilty and angry with myself every time I hit the wrong skill button, which happens way too often. I have poor fine motor skills and I often have a tremor in my hands due to health problems. These issues affect my ability to find the correct keys by touch, especially while under pressure. Shroud of Saints and Aero II are right next to each other on my bar, and I keep popping Shroud by mistake when I don't need it. -
I'm new and excited to be here! I have a quick question.
Michaux replied to Mordenn's topic in Welcome Desk
My opinion is always Elezen. There will never be enough Elezen. There's a linkshell for Ishgard RPers and a lot of Ishgard-themed free companies to choose from. Also, that Elezen model is hot. I highly approve. I think Eorzea needs him. -
This is more about what I'm watching, but I like the actual song too: P_SlAzsXa7E I don't know. IDEK. I just love it.

Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Michaux replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
@ Moon, your characters are cute and have really interesting wikis, and I would love to RP with you sometime! Edit: I was too slow and broke the chain. Whoops! Mhaya, I haven't really interacted with you, but your character is very striking. What a pretty catte. -
I would love to RP with any of your characters! They all sound interesting, especially Sirin. My RP schedule is pretty flexible. My main, Solenne, has a wiki if you want to check it out, and all my alts have short bios on my Tumblr (linked in my sig). Let me know if you want to meet any of them!

Here's a relevant thread: FFXIV jobs in RP This is definitely a very contentious issue in the FFXIV RP community. Given what we currently know, it's pretty much impossible to play a lore-compliant white mage.

And now for something really pretty and sappy: rxeUwUSrdxU

This is an awesome prompt! (And yes, do RP with Nebula. She's lovely!) Solenne: "It's really dangerous! No safety features at all. How can you resist?" Michaux: [some obscure reference to Gelmorran cleaning practices goes here] Leonie: "Just take the fucking thing, okay?" Tatsu: "It's quite useful and cleans well, I think. And it comes in five beautiful colors!" J'aeda: "This device is bulky and noisy. I would not recommend it. I will teach you how to make a broom from willow wands instead."

I answered for my main, but now for my alts: Michaux's first name was simply chosen from a list of French surnames. I liked the sound of it. His surname, Vidal, is the name of a rakish, wild, unruly character from one of my favorite books. I chose it because I planned to loosely base Michaux's personality on that character, but I ended up going in a completely different direction with him instead. Leonie actually has two names. Her birth name was Eve Renardier. There's a simplicity and purity to the name Eve that seemed to suit Leonie's younger self, but there's also something just a touch ominous about it, given the Biblical story of Eve's fall. Renardier means fox hunter, which has nothing to do with anything, except that I happen to like it. Leonie Daucourt is her assumed name. Leonie is a name I'm particularly fond of. It means lioness, so it is associated with bravery. I chose it specifically because she is haunted by an act of cowardice in her past. There is irony in the selection, but also a bit of hope for her eventual redemption. And Daucourt is another name that I simply liked the sound of. Tatsu Kaisuri is a name I... slightly regret. Kaisuri came from the name generator, since I did not feel capable of picking out a lore-compliant surname for a Raen. But I didn't like any of the first names generated, so I went in search of one. I chose 'Tatsu' because it means dragon. In my defense, I was new to the game at this point, and didn't realize that Au Ra aren't related to dragons. So now the name feels a bit tongue-in-cheek. Oh well. J'aeda Rhenli is just a combination of letters and sounds that I like. It means absolutely nothing.

I need a hug because I'm moving tomorrow morning, it's 10:40 pm, and I still need to pack up half my apartment... *cries*

My male Duskwight, Michaux, lives in the Shroud, but his new FC is Ul'dah-based, so he's been spending more time in that area recently. He's not a mage, but he is a historian (or 'lorekeeper,' as he calls himself) and might enjoy comparing notes with Leon. Let me know if you want to set up a time to RP.

balmung Looking to Support Roleplay, perhaps more.
Michaux replied to azahana's topic in Chronicled Connections
I would love to RP sometime! I don't have a specific arc in mind right now, but I'm sure I could think of something. -
Cool thread! It's an interesting little exercise. For my characters: Solenne: Ambition. She wants nothing less than to change the world and leave behind a legacy that will not soon fade or be forgotten. She is ever restless, ever searching for the next challenge to overcome. Michaux: Recovery. Michaux is a (now former) drug addict with severe PTSD. His arc has been all about waking up, getting clean, and reconnecting with the world around him. Leonie: Currently, her story is all about Regret. She is forever haunted by a dishonorable deed committed 20 years in the past, and her shame has turned her bitter and dangerous. Eventually, I hope her story will transform into one of Redemption. Tatsu: I haven't been RPing Tatsu long, and she is the most generic, happy-go-lucky character I play, which makes this a tricky question to answer for her. I think her most distinguishing feature, at least among my characters, is her Joy. She loves life, she knows how to enjoy the simple things, and she never lets set-backs get her down for long. J'aeda: Another character I haven't been RPing for long. Right now, the things that stand out to me about J'aeda are her Isolation and Wildness. She is not a tame creature and she is not integrated into society at all. She has so much knowledge and skill to offer, and yet she doesn't even know who to offer them to.

Is your character open for killing/death? What about injury?
Michaux replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I have one alt who is very likely to die in the course of her redemption arc. If I go in that direction with her, I intend to plan it carefully so that it is meaningful. For my other four characters, I have no current plans to let them die. There is so much more to be done with them before that happens, if it ever happens. And I'm fairly certain I don't want my two main characters to die young. Michaux in particular deserves to find happiness and live a full life, given how tragic his life has been up to this point. I might retire him someday, but I doubt I would ever kill him off. -
balmung Accidental vigilante makes lots of bad decisions
Michaux replied to Marcy's topic in Chronicled Connections
Oh my gods, Marcy sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Please RP with me! Solenne is always on the lookout for potential partners in crime. She's a rebel and an adrenaline junkie in refined gentlewoman's clothing. She is good-aligned, but she's pretty much the embodiment of Chaotic Good. If you want to get Marcellain wrapped up in some potentially deadly mischief, that can probably be arranged. I also have a broody singer/poet who is obsessed with Gelmorra, a bitchy and borderline evil Ishgardian expat, a wandering witch, and a laid back fisherwoman arcanist, all of whom are capable of getting into trouble in various ways. Let me know if you want to meet any of them. -
A character concept you always wanted to try...
Michaux replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I have an NPC that I've been tempted to turn into a playable character. He's an Ishgardian knight from a noble family. He has slovenly habits, a deeply cynical worldview, and a long history of doing terrible things to further his family's interests while feeling increasingly awful about it. He's a complex character who would probably be very entertaining to play, but I don't feel like leveling up a PLD or DRK so he can carry a sword and wear heavy armor. So it's not happening. But I still RP him a little on Skype. Other than that, every time I have a new character idea, I fantasia whichever alt I'm not currently playing much and run with it. -
Welcome to Balmung! I'm often active during EU peak times, so look me up sometime for RP! My characters' names are listed in my signature.
