"A Doman. They're this new refugee that's been showing up with the Ala Mihgans. I thought Iteya may have looked like one, I'll have to ask her." Kallera said as Fay began filling up the waterskins. "They seem a bit formal, idealistic, and a bit nutty when depressed. I have a friend that was like that. He had his ups and downs over finding his lost sister. I had to help him through it more than once."

Do you like to go with or against the stereotypes?
Kallera replied to JFrombaugh's topic in RP Discussion
I guess I did both, when I originally heard about the game. the descriptions of the duskwight elezen made me think they could become their own thing, yet still be in a city, like the everquest 1 factions. turns out I was wrong, they were a minority, and oppressed, and even more minority and oppressed in 2.0. So I took to a character that basically watched where she walked, and who feared getting in trouble with the law, because as a duskwight, she knew she had no privilege, and few chances. Cue her becoming an atypical dark knight. Despite learning the ways of the dark knight, she is fairly easygoing and friendly, willing to help when she can as an adventurer. Yet she chose a life of fighting, and a path that may see her living like her parents, even if not the same trade... She isn't mired in problems regarding controlling her abilities so much as dealing with knowing when and how to "take the law into her own hands". Whether its stopping a fight between friends, meeting a fence for a shady deal, or smashing a bottle over a portly merchant's head for someone to interrogate about a cult. -
Stormblood may change the entire paradigm of RP
Kallera replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I'm mostly concerned about one thing in rp: The Garlean question. On one end, things seem to be ramping up to war, and a lot of terrible shit can be excused for war and the plight of forefathers. I'm not sure what I'll think of it. On one hand I get the desire to be left alone, one the other, the atrocities and bloodshed make me hesistant on seeing what Eorzea's newfound aggression will turn us into towards them and perhaps towards each other. -
At first Kallera had no idea why they were heading out this far, but then it dawnd on her: water is likely to be not as fresh and at a premium in the city. She kept quiet as Fay climbed up. Kallera climbed up the rope, to what looked like a hideaway for Fay. The homeless in Ul'dah seemed to make do with whatever was outside. and the outside was a harsh mistress. Looking around, Kallera noticed that the stash consisted of traveling and survival gear, and came up with a new guess entirely at to her behavior, giggling. "I was just thinking, you've enough here to survive the city going to pieces." She said. "I wish I had thought of that."

You could try to take this several ways. ill edit with the second in a moment. 1. Hikari's body is not hers- the injuries she thought she had were in fact part of a soul transplanting process into another body akin to what Edda and Nybeth were trying. This isn't a perfect process, in fact that might have been what the old lady was looking for. Hikari may find herself with some psychological effects, such as a penchant for daydreaming or performing actions without remembering them, or strange dreams where she sees her immediate vicinity, including her sleeping self. 2. Hikari is cured...and dead- a variation of the above, Hikari may have been healed at the point of death and before the soul exited, rendering her "undead" while her body yet functions(the layman terms being her body was cured literally at the moment it "died") , and oddly vulnerable to stuff that affect zombies, skeletons, while still retaining bodily functions, with possibly other effects regarding her aether and aging. Voisent shananigans- not very versed in voidsent... but perhaps the lady used Hikari's body to house something supernatural, and that is the only reason she survived. if ithe other spirit is purged or otherwise sent back to the void, Hikari may suffer something drastic, like bad dreams, possession, lack of ability to use magic safely, or even death.

I'd rather not include things that encourage the bad aspects of this game to get worse, imo. -
discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Kallera replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I have mixed feelings about it. I would like nothing better than to skip the msq for my alts, that is ungodly lengthy, and may provide a way for players to get back into the game if they were to to, say, cancel their sub. On the other hand, this feels like a gateway drug(analogy). That this is a step away from armors or exp potions and other cash shop items in the mogstation that directly impact play, all the while saying that it isn't some version of "pay-to-win". it will also bring on more players that likely are not suited to playing at lvl cap, which will cause anger and resentment at the duty finder. -
Kallera let Fey take the lead as they went to get water for Esther, the miqote was in no hurry, but she knew the way better. Her question left Kallera puzzled as to how to phrase it without leaving a bad impression of them. "Well, they started showing up in Limsa and the Black Shround one day after having lost their country. The lot are kinda like Ala Mighans, except less 'rah rah!' and more 'ruu ruu'. They aren't so much bloodthirsty as awkward, but they do try to fit in. At least, that's my experience..." As they reached their destination Kallera wondered if she was being too nosy with Fey. "I thought maybe you might have met some." She said with a unassuming smile. "just a guess."

okay, thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

My character is in a fork in the road regarding which job to take. While she is doing that, I do have an issue as how to rp going forward. Dark Knight or Pugilist. While I know they are only occupations and not the full character themselves, surely it means some changes , particulary since drk looks for emotional control that pug does not, but are there changes on the level of preparation and how to approach a fight, too? Since this is the difference between a tank and a dd class. am I thinking about this the wrong way?

"Yeah, I think I'll be fine now." Kallera said. The heat was much the same as before, but it didn't seem like the sprint and lack of water from before. With the two heading out if the gates, Kallera had been curious about Fey's reaction, though Fey seemed like she wanted to get away from the situation. Once they were some distance from the tent, Kallera started to make some small talk. "Ul'dah's pretty interesting with its sense of charity. Almost like its some thing of controversy. Though I can't imagine anyone having a problem with her being there. Pearl Lane is not exactly prime real estate, I heard they tried to avoid taking in Doman refugees because of all the homeless." That was puting it mildly. The Ala Mihgan refugees were still a problem throughout the nation. "I heard some Domans managed to come in anyway. You ever run into them?"

That sounds like a thing I'd be comfortable in using. It hasn't come up for my character but I figure itll be a matter of time before it does.

I've seen my share of haurchefants and hildebrands, but never in any rp setting. given the situation though I would probably unfairly consider them of the godmodding variety. not saying it's right, hell roleplaying an npc would be great, but established characters from the msq considerable clout, power and riches? their plot armor is usually as bad as the WoL.

Kallera looked at Esther, and said "oh, maybe I can help Fay with that. Especially since I got my own." She showed the one she just bought. "I left your other one on your rucksack, Fay."
-
"One of those please" Kallera didn't even bother haggling on the price, she hadn't the time for it anyway. it seemed a little pricey, but the necessity likely made it that way in a place like this, that they were already filled made it an even better deal. Kallera bought the waterskin and started to make her way back to the tent. There was still a good number of people about, and esther seemed nervous about Fay. Kallera decided to ask what the problem was. "Did something happen with you two? You seem like you're staring at the sun or something."

other servers Looking for connections on Excalibur!
Kallera posted a topic in Chronicled Connections
Looking to see if there are other roleplayers from Excalibur on here. While I am part of a rp community on Excalibur I haven't really seen if there were other excaliburians here until this thread. https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Kallera_Etoile -
We are a group that is currently inviting roleplay characters. The ls chat is for ooc chat and we use party chat for roleplaying. We are trying to bring in people that can be active roleplayers. To be clear, those who actually RP and not people that just take up room and don't interact. if you are interested feel free to send Star Amethysta, Kisumi Mimsy,or Kallera Etoile, a tell in game, or a pm Kallera here.

I've also wondered this myself, and I just recently saw a character expereince this, and while I don't mention it often, I've thought of Kallera as one of the ones taken in Louisioux ritual to send folks to the future. I've kinda wondered if having the echo would make Kallera OP, yet at the same time, would not having it be fatal against a large array of opponents in the setting? (for example,if one of the big bads someone came up with is ascian, or if Kallera had to fight someone with the echo.)

discussion When to SPEAK, when to THINK, and when to DESCRIBE
Kallera replied to Kallera's topic in RP Discussion
Thank you for you responses and I'll continue to welcome more. I've found myself writing lots of internal dialogue but emoting and saying not a lot of stuff. That might work for unconsciousness but not for someone that is actively interacting or wants to get closer and easier to get along with to people. so I'm going to make a good note of that, that a post that is mostly dialog and emotes is not necessarily a bad post if the actions and motivation are conveyed in a clear manner. -
I'm on Excalibur, so any rp will likely be in the forums, but Kallera might be another gridanian you might like to interact with. While Kallera has a kind and caring personality, she has the concerns of a fighter with a violent job.

In combat RP, do you take the difference between rolls into account?
Kallera replied to sima's topic in RP Discussion
Ran into this in a sparring match that went out control between two dark knights, one not in her full faculties, ended up rolling a 1 against someone else's 20. At first I was kind of concerned with the result of it, but it helped provide a lot of variance in outcomes to work with. like mentioned above, use the rule of cool. As for what happened in my situation. the attacker hit the defender so good it ruined her pauldroncoat and all but ended the match, with an outcome the attacker wasn't expecting and was in a rush to heal when she snapped out of it. later the defender changed her look since the pauldroncoat was still a mess, and the attacker decided to persue a different path to protecting her friends. -
discussion When to SPEAK, when to THINK, and when to DESCRIBE
Kallera posted a topic in RP Discussion
one thing I am running into and having confusion with is finding out when it would be best for my character to speak, even if it's to no one in particular, when to have the character think the line (via italics or similar), and when to describe what the character is feeling at the moment (like "Kallera felt blah blah blah, a slight reminder that she needed more blah.") Is there any advice with this? I want to make sure I'm giving the next responder enough to interact and play with on their next interaction. -
discussion Fostering RP on non-role-play servers
Kallera replied to Shimizu no Koichi's topic in RP Discussion
I'm in an rp ls on Excalibur, and we have been able to get a group together with the people we have recruited. first impressions are important, so make sure to have a scenario you can use for initiates thats gets them involved and is a good intro to your group's dynamics(this doesn't have to be the bar social) getting people involved is a task(same as any fc), but I'm enjoying hanging out and trying new things with the people I've met. we're split on different medias but discord has been a focus point for everyone. Finding a common medium and a way to record your character's development is important. -
Iteya seemed busy at the moment, so Kallera took the moment to go to the market to putchase her own waterskin before possibly asking again. Before she left, she put Fay's waterskin on top of her rucksack. With a smile and a nod, she left for the market stalls outside Pearl Lane.
