  1. I really failed to find a hook for me for this one after overthinking it since day one, and that's too bad... That sounds like a cool idea. Would you have any hooks in mind? That sounds a too good opportunity to pass...!
  2. Would make a lot more sense to just make the old pieces dyable too...
  3. I am starting to get a better view, not much random, so that sounds actually quite interesting. You choose to act or not if you decide that your char is ready/able or not right? Sounds good, thanks for the clarification.
  4. Ah I see, so you make it more like the potential that your character can achieve, and then you play it as you want or downplay it when required in live? Sounds like a good approach either way. Just on that... how much control do players have on what they eventually do, even when the system makes them do successes? Sorry for the flurry of questions, just being curious!
  5. Out of curiosity, how does the system deal with more or less advanced characters? How does it work with novices or grizzled characters?
  6. That looks really deep and a lot of work seems to have gone into it, respect for it. Although looking at it right now just seems outright confusing considering the amount of information i'll be extremely interested to get a better view of it in situation! Especially since i'm myself using my own little (insignificant) system for FC events so i'm always interested to see what kind of nice things work elsewhere.
  7. I certainly didn't mean all the people that switched were terrible. I know a fair bit of tanks that got disgusted of their main PLD and switched out of options. That would be quite the non sequitur to assume that all the terrible players switching means automatically that everyone switching is a terrible player... But maybe it's just personal experience of course. I just maintain it though: the most resilient tanks I ever have had the pleasure to deal with were PLDs. I dislike healing warriors, they are just huge HP sacks with no resists. A nightmare to heal. They suck all your MP in no time.
  8. As a heal I hug all the paladins. They are the most comfy to heal, just apply regen and forget about him until it's ready to apply another one... Then holy holy holy. Even better when a MCH or BRD is in the group, and the last one a summoner. Those poor mob stacks. PLD players are also the most likeable in my opinion, generally, since all the terrible players switched for something else META-compliant.
  9. I recently got a random thought. We have many series of quests around the Twelveswood where it's about curing taint from various ailments and sources (conjurer story quest, gridania starting MSQ, white mage 50-60 quest...) that seem to pervert and turn nature into various monstruosities, Chernobyl style. But... do we have clues in the lore if a similar fate could happen to elementals themselves, or are they just immune to every taint with their Succor and all? Is the worst that could happen to be them going mad when balance is broken, or just getting destroyed as when the Ixali try to kill the ancient tree as part of the MSQ? By the way, can they even be eradicated? How do you kill them exactly? What were those Ixali trying to achieve in retrospect by killing a huge tree?
  10. I will probably sound mean and offensive, and believe me, that's not the intent really, but people actually talked on that LS? I mean, it's not different from other OOC RP LSes, I barely see people talking. I tried the first few days to initiate conversations (being new to the game, etc etc), it was pleasant enough, but... As soon as I stopped, I haven't seen anyone talking in months... Literally. Or maybe it's just dead in EU TZ. I'm not sure if you see what I mean?
  11. Since I... didn't especially follow what happened and what leaded there... Can anyone explain what changed, and why...? I am a bit le confused...
  12. I'm not going to strike out the possibility of extended shyness and serious social issues (a lot have those on MMOs), but I also think it stems a bit from the game itself. It's really hard to build a network of contacts when you start. It's when it's the hardest. How to contact people when the ingame tools are absolute crap for that (adding offline people as friends, etc?). Most contacts that you build, you have to keep contacting them to RP with them, and keep the synergy up and alive. Due to the lack of social tools and more importantly, windows on what happens around you besides in your own FC, you get the feeling to be half blind most of the time. So, it makes reaching out to people twice as important, and it often starts to feel like insisting. Especially when people don't answer, or go into duty where... guess what. Can't /tell anymore.
  13. Server: Balmung Location: Limsa Lominsa, Vylbrand. Who may mention this: Adventurers, mercenaries, authorities... Or just anyone you can meet at your usual random lominsan pub. Rumor: Rumours concerning a series of ruckuss caused in the region of Bronzelake have been circulating as of late. A full company of yellowjackets would have been doing a full swipe of the area. Some speak about a covert operation with the aim to weed out spooks and spies of the region, while some other seem to hint at archaeological discoveries attracting reputable as well as less reputable organizations. Combat noises and screams have been confirmed by most accounts.
  14. Not that you are wrong to do it and that healer is probably a frustrated idiot, but I always wonder why PLD always make a point casting those at the beginning since the heal will do it anyway... Got recently frustrated in my hunting for materials, going in my usual farming spot when I suddenly see guys getting out of nowhere, probably here to farm the same spot (i was there first damnit), and suddenly aggroing everything with stupid AoEs to deny me everything, hoping that I drop it out of disgust. Which I did. Moments like those, I wish the server was pvp...
  15. Yeah that would be nice. I was actually shrugging it off as an annoying 'feature' or side effect until I tried archer...
  16. I'm just jesting mostly... Just that well. Depends where you puts the limit on believability, but honestly, if we are after believability, FFXIV is maybe not the best game for that. I mean, characters carry their two handed weapons and bows and guns on their back when it's actually the worse thing to do, that kind of things... Not especially specific to FFXIV either, where more serious and realistic games fall into the same ignorant traps... I guess i'm more vocal about all the fan-service, immersion breaking evidences that go into the game than this. Just imagine the characters using both their hands and voila... Not something we would be technically very unused to do as RPers that have to make up half of what happens around and is not made possible by the game anyway... I agree though. Just seemed like really nitpicking to me compared to other stuff. There is plenty.
  17. I play a Hearer afflicted with a broken conjury and a general mistrust toward Stillglade Fane, which unfortunately means that with her backstory she cut her links with Gridania to start anew. However, i'm definitely not opposed for her to meet people from there, especially from Stillglade, that can be a reminder that people still know about her here, or that simply leaving the world she lived in didn't make it magically go away. I might have a timezone issue compared to yours though...
  18. You crazy. Look at this. LOOK AT IT. THAT MASK. How the fuck does one accurately aim that with one hand? How do I shoot magicks with my wand? How can DRG into space by jumping? How can I shoot so many arrows at the same time with my bardbow?
  19. You can make an au'ra on the same server you are on, and then transfer it at the same time of the other character for the same cost..
  20. Always happy to have RP with Dread wyrms folks!
  21. Venting at myself for macroing my raise spell, and noticing once in time of need that it was borked. The embarassment.
  22. There is a difference between "based on the lore we currently know" and "based on hypothesises or whims", in my opinion. Maybe I never totally got what pushed people to always want to play the things that are lore delicate, or why they always feel the need to world build lore general facts instead of focusing on local details without much consequences on lore... I totally understand your view on that, and i'm definitely the last that will go tell people how they are doing it right or wrong (who cares, the better for them!). It's just not how I see things. As I said, I would rather prevent a retcon when I'm proven wrong than having to tell all my friends and contacts "so guys, it would appear that I played something that now totally contradicts the new lore, I knew I was betting on a gamble, and so i'll have to retcon everything that I played with you all up to that point, thanks". Basically. I'm also fine with a bit of lore bending, but there are limits for me.
  23. Yeah well, and they could have designed the dragoons in Heavensward to be inaccessible for players lore-wise, written clearly in red ink everywhere, and you would have been the one to eat crows. It's a gamble really. Nice it paid of for you of course, but I have had to deal with that kind of things so many times on RP and MMOs in general that when it sadly turns the other way around, characters often tend to get binned, or retconed heavily...
