  1. Oh yes, Rebels was a good surprise. For kids and teens, sure, but it takes a lot of things back from what has been weeded out of the EU, like the COMPNOR/ISB among others. I would be totally mad happy about that show if I watched that as a kid. And, to be honest with The Force Awakens, it's the exact same kind of process they are doing. I found so many things back form the legacy EU there when I watched it... I mean, it's almost like the EU post Empire got remixed into something new with the same elements. Leia is not far from the head of state of the New Republic, except it's the Resistance instead. Kylo Ren is Jacen, Rey is Jaina, as the similarities are so obvious. The New Republic is here, but a lot weaker. The new Jedi Order happened but unlike in the old EU, it met a grim end. Among many things, I got the same vibes from it, even if we can say what we want about the copy/paste of the original trilogy they did with the second part of the movie.
  2. [[ Just to make people know that the thread is still ongoing, don't hesitate to grab me ingame if you see me roaming about in Uldah, it's fair game! I'm in Uldah a lot currently ]]
  3. Hmmm. If you are referring to the girl and such, they do not draw directly from themselves because they consider it too dangerous. They feel it is too easy to die drawing directly on themselves, apparently when healing in particular. They feel it is safer to draw on themselves to restore what they have taken from the area around them/elementals. It adds a buffer or something. Maybe the elementals will just not let them die in the process of putting stuff back, and that may have something to do with the whole "the elementals will not allow me to heal this person" thing. It also helps to remember that the Guild is a product of it's nation. Gridania has a lot of random arbitrary rules couched in the excuse of "because the elementals say so!" So does Conjury. Mhh. Maybe I did interpret something wrong with that storyline though. Or I saw too much in it. I seem to remember pretty surely that they state that her mother died because her own body aether is only finite and it was a matter of time before she burnt all of it. It was confusing turned like that and maybe made me think that it wasn't regenerating. It would seem more logical in your rationale that it actually replenishes, and that they just meant that she was bound someday to drain it too much by healing. Good sides points too, on Gridania.
  4. Yeah it sure helps. It also comforts me in what I already supposed regarding 1). But, for 2), if aether replenishes itself as it seems to be the case for thaumathurgy and others, the conjurer class quest specifically shows that it doesn't when they draw only from themselves. That's the main gripe that I have and is bothering me... It just can't make sense if it replenishes.
  5. There is something I can't quite get my head around in the different ways different magical (or even non magical) classes draw the aether they need to do their stuff. We know that the thaumathurges draw from their own body for example, while conjurers do from their environment. It causes two issues in the rational way i'm trying to analyze it: 1) The first one I can find answers at least. Drawing from the environment kills the planet according to the war of magi between White and Black mages. How do conjurers don't kill Hydaelyn? Because they don't do it on the same scale? They do it parsimoniously and respectfully? Or conjury is just not on the same scale of drain as succor and black magic are? Both? Another thing, I have not played the Black Mage storyline, but I read that they draw their energy from the land, which is totally taboo or something? If I understand correctly then, it again stems from the war that drained the planet to the Umbral Flood? People aware of it don't want the same mistake to happen I suppose, thus the taboo... But! If Padjals are ready to get past that taboo with a respectful and moderate use of succor, then could that mean that a black mage can theoretically do the same as well without killing the planet? Or do they just have to be a whole legion of them for it to start being noticeable? 2) Is a real paradox to me.
  6. Thank you for all the people I had the time to interact with! I know there are some of you still left and I'm still trying to find a good time to hook up with you ingame. It made otherwise interesting things and shenanigans happen around my character and things are moving... Being looked for by the Brass Blades, and now embroiled into shady things in Thanalan. Don't hesitate anyone to hit me up ingame if any hooks or ideas interest you there!
  7. Oh cool, I'll try to get in touch.
  8. I may be interested! Not sure if it's strictly for garlean sympathizers or if magitek lovers could be considered, and not sure what you all do there but well, it could lead to fun shenanigans who knows?
  9. If you are looking for pure stat min maxing, then all lalafells, hellsguard roegadyn, keeper mi'qote, offer generally the best average magical traits. However, it's maybe a difference of 3 points, or more, which is literally nothing compared to the 500-800 total pool you will get endgame. So I would say, stick with the race you wish to play the most. Read its lore, see if you enjoy it. Good thing to know on crafting gear too: it isn't limited by your job or class, you can wear it as long as you have the level to do so with any class, which is kind of nice for RP stuff.
  10. Feel free to poke me ingame! I'm just starting to get RPing with various folks around..
  11. The image has to be hosted locally on the wiki I think. Also, it may take a little time to show up... Last time I updated one, it didn't show for hours on the infobox (even if it showed perfectly fine on its own besides), even with cache clearing and all.
  12. Yes, definitely! It has slowed down a bit with vacation holidays, but it should still be planned for next week end. We will try to start something the 2nd (saturday), around 20:00 GMT, and do as many as we like. Then we can continue the next evening if need be, and then we will see... Since I don't know the exact setup requirements I'll let people deal with what we really need if we don't reach the required numbers for a synced party (8), or if we don't have the exact kind of roles either (or even if we have to split in several groups).
  13. ((This format looks fun, let's try something out! Feel free to hit me up ingame for any follow up on this or ideas you might have!)) Unidentified foreign female miq'ote, cream-coloured hair, small stature, black boots and tunic, wanted alive for trespassing into the restricted area around Castrum Meridianum. Any information on her location to be forwarded directly to the Brass Blades or the Flames of Uldah. 500 gils on information, 5.000 gils for crucial information leading to her location or a more accurate facial description.
  14. As said above, I cannot imagine any nation without a working class. Or, either way, they had engineers specialized in lower mechanized tasks as cleaning, agriculture and the likes. Also, perhaps a good part of those necessary bothersome tasks actually were traded against sharlayan expertise for food imports and other necessities? For some reason Sharlayan always struck me as the clear opposite of a self sustaining nation... Maybe i'm wrong though.
  15. I'm back home this (eu) evening so i'll start getting in touch with you all that i have yet to get in touch with!
  16. Can't look more scify than ironworks 120 gear... Which I absolutely love for my WhM on a pure OOC level. Because well, when i'm not RPing, considering that 80% or more of the people you see wear immersion breaking shit anyway (FFXIII stuff is clearly not the most immersion breaking stuff there is, and at least it's not full of cleavage/thigh revealing stuff, looking at you minfillia/yda). If I want to RP in an immersive setup, I shut myself off inside my little bubble with RP friendlies and use the equipment accordingly...
  17. Alright, so more than character development proper now, I am having a puzzling issue with the wiki proper, where I just uploaded a new file for my character portrait, even smaller than the older one... The image works perfectly fine on display everywhere on the wiki except in the character infobox, where it's a broken link... Any idea? I'm a a loss there... I tried to refresh web browser cache... Still nothing. Edit: ok weird, it now seems to work correctly... Maybe it takes time for it to process that...
  18. Thank you! I'll try to stay in touch as well, I will be away 3 days past christmas and then back to business.
  19. https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/images/f/fe/Suen_daydreaming.png[/img] Hello all, This one is very much into all kinds of stories and contrary to her usual keeper reclusiveness, actually found a new enjoyment into meeting interesting folks. 'Interesting' of course meaning sometimes being proportional to the obscure creepy scary awesome cool spooky level of the stuff ensuing. She is currently wandering the road aimlessly and contrary to what she would like to admit, feels a bit lost deep down. That said now, I think that building a network of (lasting!) connections is a must. I am also interested in any hook you might have in mind if you have any (as long as it fits and suits my character situation naturally), or if you are looking into RP, I'm here! If you want to read more, don't hesitate to take a look at her wiki (link in signature), which is still a laborious work in progress. Just a note on the RP in question: the usual, I tend to play modest characters, the kind of everyday folks you would encounter in Eorzea with her few quirks of course. She is what you would call very green, and called to evolve at the flow of RP eventually. So, if you are more into the grandiose epic heroes kind of RP, maybe i'm not the best candidate here, although who knows, the mix could do the trick... Anyway, I'm an EU player, available most evenings between 20:00 and 24:00, and the week end most of the time. Feel free to hit me up!
  20. Maybe I can see a hook actually. Maybe both our characters saw each other once or twice in the past at Stillglade Fane or something? Past events can be linked through Gridania. I'm open for RP, in any case. I try to keep my RP relations as relations. I don't want them to just turn into a one day thing, friendlist, and then never do anything again.. Also yes, finding RP is hard, even when RP is aplenty. Might have Timezones issues though.
  21. Also, I want to say that like for artists, the feeling you will always get out of your character will always, always be different than what people get out of him/her. You simply lack detachment, everyone does, and it's something you can't really fight against. Honest feedbacks are probably the best tools to get past that issue when it arises.
  22. I suppose I can echo on a lot of the things that have been brought up.. My main issue though currently, is fighting against the game that makes it extremely difficult for people not in the same FC to stay in touch, and that even worse for people that aren't in any FC yet. It makes it a real chore, and reaching a few players out doesn't mean that you will forge something lasting, and you will have to keep harassing them so that the relationship between character, good or bad or anything else, doesn't fall flat... I am currently trying to friendlist people so that I can at least get a clue when they are online... Then it's the usual chore of trying to /tell them "hey want to RP?" again and again to the point you start to wonder if you are not being an annoying drag for them.. Also may be just due to the fact that i'm terrible at reaching people out. I'm just shy, or I don't know exactly what, but I always have to violence myself to do so. I'm learning though, but I never had to do that in other MMOs with more chat options available, which is a bit paradoxical considering that I have never been in such a huge, boiling RP community either... Another thing that stems from that, is that RP is hard to make happen naturally. What I mean is that most of the time you have to initiate it by reaching people out (again and again), and except for the obvious places like the Quick Sands, walking up to a group of people doing something or someone or some event happening, is hard to do. You have to know that something is happening there or there to do it in the first place, and people are not necessarily going to be welcoming. And it's even more frustrating knowing that for once in my life, it's a MMO with a RP community where there is always many things happening everywhere... And there is that... I might very well just lack connections, a lot. I guess... So i'll maybe eventually resolve myself to use that connection forum instead of rambling here.
  23. I have basically zero template of my own created behind. I'm using the "fancy template" that was created by someone else and that a lot of people use already (the original one is linked at the bottom of my page in the broken formatted link, and should lead you to a native blue themed page). I have heavily modified the layout to suit my tastes with ad-hoc modifications, layouts, etc, but that's it. So anyway, go for it! If the layout I did can be of any use, feel free to use it. Just note that mine is still under a lot of work and is changing a lot currently. Also, take care since i'm not creating my own templates to make things clearer, it's a bit dirty or messy at places, and just overall convoluted...
  24. That's a good thread idea. Liking to experiment many things, I tried this time to play a character a bit on the funny/silly side of things. The difficulty is to do it in a non-goofy way at all. It has to remain light, good hearted and subtle enough. That is to say, it's actually the sugarcoat of the character concept. The crux of the matter and the overall theme I would say, is the redemption trope: it is the ability (or not) of a character to cope and deal with something rather creepy or horrible that happened in her past that she just can't face properly. It gives a character that actually spends her time fleeing rather than facing any problem (and thus hiding behind that silly side, among other things). In the case of Suen then, it's also about doing the usual journey for atonment. It might probably happen at some point when she will mature, since she starts very, very green right now. However, she has yet to reach the point where she actually have to face the idea of redemption rather than just shying instinctively away from it.
