Wayfarer's Gift Giveaway: Starlight Celebration Giveaway!!!
Ren of Many Alts replied to RiniKett's topic in Chronicled Events
Happy New Year, and thank you so much! -
Can't support this event/venue loudly enough! Tin Man does a great job, and I'd be first in line to sign up as an employee if it didn't perfectly conflict with my schedule this semester!

Holy smokes, this is exactly how I already imagined Ruran's voice. O_O Same, plus I don't have a very well-developed "mind's ear," so the two things together make trying to find voice examples for my character almost impossible! Edit to add: Well, heck. I was googling around for information about the accent Zedyr has and accidentally found what I was unconsciously drawing from when writing his speech. He's a farmboy from Western La Noscea -- specifically western Western La Noscea, or rather, where it used to be -- so he has what I describe as a "rural drawl." "I" gets dropped to "Ah," lots of g-droppin', relaxed way of talking, "I reckon" and "I figure" and "folks" and "y'all," but he throws in the occasional "aye," too, thanks to living in Limsa. Well. Uh. Turns out I was unconsciously thinking of Clint Black: [video=youtube] Not that Zedyr can sing quite that nicely -- I mean, he's alright, can carry a tune and even sing a bit of harmony, but he doesn't have the range or the power of a professional. His voice is also a tiny bit lower/more relaxed overall -- more like the beginning of the song than the middle/end -- and he's quite softspoken for the most part.

Oh heck, this sounds like so much fun, but it's scheduled to run at exactly the same time as the Golden Gala, and I can't choose! How frowned-upon would it be to sign up knowing that I can't be there in person? Because this sounds like a fantastic way to meet new folks and get the creative juices flowing!

Selah (Seselahi Rerelahi) is looking forward to January, when he will hopefully be free of the (profitable) tyranny that is doing the calligraphy for his clients' Starlight Festival cards and announcements. It won't be a long reprieve, though -- Valentione's Day is just around the corner. He also has a small list of practical things he would like as gifts -- a new pen knife, a few sturdy plumes, some folios. Secretly, he is finding himself missing the traditional foods he grew up with -- especially his parents' family recipes -- but he doesn't dare try to find the recipes. Renan is wishing for a cure for the Tonberry plague, but if they can't have that, then they'd like to go with Negevs to visit his hometown, after all the stories he's told them. Also: hot chocolate. Zedyr is starting to feel homesick after nearly a month away from his business in Limsa Lominsa, and (with some chagrin) finds himself sending prayers off to Nald'thal that Maayan is handling the pre-Starlight rush okay and that he isn't losing customers thanks to not being able to work on custom designs for the time being. He is wishing for some time to sit and breathe so he can write a few letters to his friends back home...and also for some warmer clothing, maybe some earmuffs or a hood. He isn't adjusting well to the Coerthan winter, as he runs a little chilly most of the time to start with. Maayan is mostly wanting to strangle Zedyr and is planning to write him asking (slightly tongue-in-cheek) for a very generous gift voucher to The Pools, as she will need a month's worth of massages after this, and where the hells did you hide the _____? and, How do you find anything in this workshop without any labels? and, Did you know that the Sirens had no idea that....?

Wayfarer's Gift Giveaway: Starlight Celebration Giveaway!!!

Wow! Thank you so much for offering this! -
All of this. Every single one. Adding onto the furniture talk, I'd love the addition of sizing and either giving a z axis for all furniture, or more surfaces to place things. Dear god, the friend request while offline thing would be the best thing ever. And mirroring/chirality-reversal for furniture items so I can have an Oasis couch in each corner and have it be symmetrical! And yes, more surfaces! (Though the placement glitch helps.) Seconding someone else's wish for the auto-generated apartments, too.

Wayfarer's Gift Giveaway: November *Results are in*

Congrats to the winners! -
(Apologies if this was answered previously; if it was, I missed it!) I assumed that Geva was referring to the pattern (template) used to cut out shapes of leather that are subsequently sewn (or otherwise fastened together/manipulated) to create leather items -- like a sewing pattern is used to make clothing. A carefully-designed pattern will allow you to fit the pattern pieces very efficiently onto a piece of fabric or leather, leading to minimal material being wasted when you cut out the shapes. The type of shoe you mention are called pattens (no "R") -- they are CRP crafts because they are actually wooden platforms worn over regular shoes to protect them from mud and filth in the streets and to raise clothing hems up as well. (In-game, the model for pattens include the leather shoe as well.)

I just wanted to say what a pleasant and well-run event the newly-reopened Black Cat Cafe is! I attended as Zhah'ra for the Grand Reopening, and I had a great time.
-
This is a really great, clear explanation of something that had never really crystallized for me before -- thank you, I'll be incorporating this into my toolkit for sure!

Welcome to the RPC, and a big congrats on being able to actually roll a character on Balmung. That's quite a feat! Whereabouts does your character usually spend her time? Maybe one of mine might run into her at some point. :)

Zedyr's guilty pleasure is a bit difficult to pin down, as he isn't prone to feeling shame about very much. I guess if we define it as something that he enjoys but that he keeps to himself, then his secret pleasure is probably taking care of his hands and nails. He works with his hands most of the day, being a goldsmith, but usually he takes one evening a week to trim and file his nails, clean up his cuticles, buff away any rough patches, and use a cedar-scented concoction that Maayan sends him every so often to keep his skin soft and smooth. Zhah'ra's secret pleasure is wandering off to the greenest, shadiest spot he can find and simply sitting and being alone for a time. He spends so much of his time being "on" -- being "Flower," performing roles, molding himself to his audience's varying expectations -- and solitude feels like the only way he can try to come back to himself. Something is missing, though. Selah's secret pleasure is being held and having his hair stroked -- but he doesn't have someone he trusts enough for that currently, and he HATES being patted by random strangers or acquaintances. (Hates it and derives no pleasure from it: he finds it demeaning, and it makes his shoulders go up around his ears -- internally, anyway.) Picking him up without his explicit permission is completely out of the question. As a result, I think some people tend to assume that he doesn't like being touched at all, ever, by anyone. That isn't the case; it just requires a quite high level of trust and understanding for him to be okay with it.

The rising and setting sun in Eorza
Ren of Many Alts replied to Rhotbahr's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yes, it bothers me too, especially because my time sense IRL is borked enough as it is! The rapid time shift is pretty disorienting. I do like that you can see the heavens track across the sky, though, with the moon rising and setting and the stars progressing. And yes, also that there are more sunrises/sunsets. I also tend to just completely ignore in-game time during RP. I won't even refer to it -- I'll usually decide with partners what time of day the scene takes place in. I do incorporate weather, though. -
Yeah you can level using it :3 A lot of people actually use that nowadays (Especially the 1-15)! Mind you, the real level/exp gained shows after you've finished the 10th floors of each batch! CX The higher the floors--or rather, the deeper you go, the more exp gained! As I understood it, a bunch of features are gated behind different sections of the main scenario quests, aren't they? (At least the MSQ practically THROWS EXP at you for your trouble....) EDIT: WHOOPS that will teach me to go browsing around when I'm tired and forget to check post dates! Sorry for the thread necro! And, er, a belated welcome to the RPC? /sweats
