  1. As someone who has RP'ed with Sehk before, he's totally awesome. Zerg him!
  2. Ask and ye shall receive: https://store.na.square-enix.com/product/421917/encyclopaedia-eorzea-the-world-of-final-fantasy-xiv-book It's a genuine 10/10 product for RP'ers.
  3. You are welcome to take a gander at the Mischief's Coven in my signature below- we offer work via a Linkshell just as much as we do via the actual FC itself, so you don't need to join the FC necessarily. The Coven is ultimately an antagonist group and is, essentially, organized crime: The Mob. So, if you're looking for similarly unsavory types and people who won't thumb their noses at black magic out of hand, well... everyone's got their price. You could end up an ally of the Coven, or someone who is trying to hunt them down, too.
  4. I see, I see. What if, say, the character was more 'Chaotic Neutral'? Are there any notable Black Mages that are not pure, mustache twirling evil? Or perhaps an example of a Black Mage who uses the magic as a means to meet ends that aren't necessarily bad for others but beneficial to themselves? More reseeach will have to be done. Whew. This is where it gets a little crazy, insofar as my understanding is concerned. Now, disclaimer: I don't play a Black Mage, and probably never will. So, the information I have may need to be taken with a grain of salt when it comes to Black Magic in particular. But, my understanding of the usage of Black Magic is similar to how Necromancy works in Dungeons & Dragons; using either magic corrupts the fabric of reality wherever it is used, consuming the natural life force of the world and destroying it. It's usage- in any context- is always irrevocably evil. So, you have a few choices, just off the top of my head: Your Black Mage is in hiding from bounty hunters and law enforcement. They shun their own craft and try not to use it. This is the trope of what is essentially a cursed character who is good at heart, wrestling with a darker evil within. Maybe they learned the craft, and later realized its true nature? Your Black Mage hides during the day, and plays their dark work away from the common eye. They may associate with criminal rings or other evil-aligned organizations for the resources to survive. They intend to play by the rules, and just not get caught. (I might have a bias for this one) Your Black Mage is an ends-justifies-the-means type of character; while evil, they are committed to rooting out evil wherever it appears. In essence, they fight fire with fire, and do things that good guys generally refuse to consider normally. However, we all know how slippery the slope to the dark side is. Your Black Mage is the typical mustache-twirling villain. I can't really recommend this one- characters like these tend to have a rather short life expectancy, rather than a long-haul future. Hope this is of some further help! At least, if you're looking for connections to villainous groups, I might know some people.
  5. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and FFXIV! There's a section in the Encyclopedia Eorzea toward the back that covers the specifics of job classes, such as Black Mage. My general knowledge of them is that the core of actually playing a Black Mage in RP pretty much means they'll be evil in nearly all cases due to the destructive nature of the power they seek to wield. RP'ing as an evil character brings with it a whole other set of challenges- for example, they may likely spend their time in hiding for fear of persecution for the abilities they use. Still, read over that part in the back- should tell you pretty much everything you need to know!
  6. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! So the operative question here is how ethical Feon is when it comes to taking jobs and earning gil. If he'd take money from organized crime rings, well... let's just say there's usually some work to be done for the Coven (aka, the mob)! You don't have to join the FC either to participate- we have an IC LS for private contractors. You can read up on the details regarding the Coven via the link in my signature. Otherwise, you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi along the road sometime!
  7. Kailia is awesome. More people should meet her!
  8. Hey! Wiki is looking pretty good there! There's a few ideas that come to mind right away. Since she's fairly nomadic, she might be a good fit to run into people on the road in ShroudLife, even if she isn't necessarily very wilderness-y. Another easy, low-hanging fruit would be to either run afoul of the Mischief's Coven (organized crime, double-cross the wrong person, kinda thing) or even end up throwing in with them as a way to make even more gil! Both of these are linked below, but if nothing else, you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi sometime, too! Kasi is a wandering trader, mercenary, cook, and occasional bartender.
  9. Thanks for the welcome! Going to the Dark Side is always a bit iffy for me, especially with that terminology (Jedi4Lyfe), but meeting people on the Dark Side? That could be fun! Jedi heresy?! Ahem. Well, in all seriousness, you're certainly welcome to drop by the Michief's Coven tavern sometime and get a drink- swim with the sith sharks, as it were. The tavern is a front for what is essentially the mob. Kasi, at least, is fairly easy to get alone with... even if she's got a sith streak a mile wide! Part of the fun.
  10. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC and to the RP scene! You're welcome to pester me with questions if you're looking for some direction. The community is pretty large, so there's a whole lot out there depending on what interests you the most. As I have a habit of saying in other welcome posts, there's everything from treasure hunters, knowledge seekers, clans, the mob, and tons in between- and that's just free companies. There are also linkshells out there that arguably are pretty good at providing RP! As long as you push to get outside, you'll find tons to sink your teeth into! One thing not mentioned above is that you can target yourself, to go Edit Search Info, and change your online status to Roleplaying. It's a wonderful little feature that allows you to 'flag' yourself as a roleplayer, and makes walk-ups and interactions a lot easier!
  11. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to Balmung! Once you've got your character carved out, you can toss up a Making Connections post here on the RPC to get some links to other characters right away. The community here is fairly large- there's a lot out there to explore and a lot of niches you can shoot for. There's everything from knowledge hunters, to treasure seekers, clans, and even the mob. It all depends on what you like the cut of the most!
  12. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! Miqo'te master race. I think it helps a lot to have an idea of what kind of direction you want to go in with Van'ir (and I totally found your wiki page- looking pretty good!). There's a lot of potential niches here in the community depending on what you fancy, exactly! There are knowledge hunters, treasure seekers, clans, and even mob-style FC's. There are vigilante linkshells and roaming, world RP linkshells too. It really depends on that direction you feel most keen on chasing with Van'ir! If it helps, there is a small sample of some of the groups that are active in-game linked in my signature. Otherwise, I'd also recommend tossing up a Making Connections post too, as that'll help you form bonds with other characters much faster!
  13. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC, FFXIV, and to Balmung! At least Aoi has good racial taste in friends. In any case, if you're looking to get off the ground in a hurry, I'd recommend tossing up a post in the Making Connections forums once you have an idea of what direction you want to head into with Aoi! There's a lot of niches out there- anything from knowledge seekers, treasure hunters, clans, and even the mob.
  14. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! Think everyone else hit the high points, but I will also mention that branching out into the community is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Don't be afraid to get around and meet a wide array of folks!
  15. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC, and to your impending move to Balmung! Think everyone here has already got you in good hands!
  16. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to Balmung! DnD is king. grunt As for character ideas, perhaps I can tempt you down the Dark Side? There's dental coverage.
  17. Go to Balm- wait, no. Long as you're having fun, that's what it's all about! Good luck on your venture!
  18. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC and to Balmung! Your RPC character page looks like a great start too! I'd suggest tossing up a Making Connections post at some point once you have a direction in mind for what niche you'd want to shoot for. You can get off the ground and running much quicker that way!
  19. Hey there and welcome back!
  20. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC!
  21. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC, Balmung, and FFXIV! We all had to start somewhere with RP anyway- mine was pretty cringy back when I started too. Adapting to MMO can be both interesting and challenging from the standpoint that where most traditional RPG's pause when you're offline, the MMO RP community is always-on, always-changing. It's a living breathing world, and can lend itself to an incredible sense of immersion. So, all in all? Not only is FFXIV a fantastic game in and of itself, but the support it has for roleplayers is where it truly comes alive. The Balmung community in particular is full of vibrant roleplayers and overall is a very proactive, involving and friendly group. But, moving on to what Deahfel alluded to... considering you're contemplating taking a dive into the criminal niche of the community, I'd strongly encourage you to have a look at the Mischief's Coven (I link the free company/guild post below in my signature). Yeah, I'm shamelessly biased- but, if you need a starting point to make your entry, I think we can get you set up pretty well! Regardless, getting yourself an RP free company is a good first step to putting down roots and interacting with other characters. In addition, you can also look into joining some linkshells as well, and even tossing up a post on the Making Connections forums. There, you can make directed, specific arrangements with other players in a more one-on-one context. Last but not least, there's random PUG RP all over Ul'dah- but of course, your milage will vary!
  22. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to Balmung!
  23. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! Character connections are great! In fact, we have a forum here devoted just to that, called Making Connections. Feel free to toss something up there when you have a rough idea of where you want to head- it'll help you a ton with finding a niche that you're interested in. There's a whole lot out there! There can be only one! Ahem.
  24. Hey there stranger, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Not that there's any particular amount of clear bias in this thread, right?
  25. Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC! When you start looking for potential connections, I'd strongly urge you to toss up a Making Connections post with what all you'd be interested in chasing after, and what niches you're most shooting for!
